    Outside of Walmart and Aldi, you pretty much have to shop sales to keep costs down when trying to eat healthy. Even that is a challenge

    It hasn’t been my experience that Whole Foods prices have come down significantly. I shop at Whole Foods every week. In early 2020, my weekly grocery bill ran from $85-100. During the covid pandemic, my bill for the same groceries ranged from $100-130. It’s still up there. I’m considering moving most of my shopping to Aldi’s and only buying a few specific items at Whole Foods.

    I’m questioning the pasture raised eggs in US grocery stores now. The eggs are starting to look too uniform to me and the yolks seem a lot brighter, not as deep yellow/orange as they used to be.

    Bravo to a man educating the public. Bobby reminds me of Sandy Gooch of Mrs. Gooch's (pre Whole Foods.) Both are serious teachers of nutrition. Pay more for healthful groceries as prevention of conditions and disease. Compare that to the cost of doctor visits and medication. Which makes more sense? Learn to cook simply and save a lot of money on processed food and restaurants.

    I wouldn’t mind it being explained to me why exactly these products are typically 1.5-3x the price of the heavily processed stuff if they are so simply made. Shouldn’t the lack of processing reduce the cost to produce?

    • @plasticstuff69

      Not sure what you mean by simple ingredients. Generally speaking, big companies use the lowest quality ingredients as long as they can maintain taste. Avocado/coconut over canola oil is more expensive. Same with cassava/almond over bleached white flower.
      The demand for healthy products, while growing is still nowhere near the demand for the typical garbage so new brands have a hard time with costs.

    • @tatzja8074
      @tatzja8074 11 місяців тому +1

      Because organically grown foods are more expensive to grow - less yield, more insect damage, necessary crop rotation, etc. Grass fed, pasture raised animals are more expensive to raise - they require more land, don’t grow at faster/larger rates than their bodies were intended by nature, etc. High quality oils like olive, avocado and coconut are more expensive to produce than refined seed oils. Lower glycemic natural sweeteners like maple sugar are more expensive/labor intensive to produce than cane sugar or chemical sweeteners.

    • @suzannebornemann
      @suzannebornemann 11 місяців тому +1

      Organic Foods must routinely be 3rd party Labor tested for a wide variety of contaminants, along with the soil and water used against Heavy Metals Pesticides, Mycotoxins. They are not government subsidized like corn of which high fructose corn syrup is their main product that is found in so many processed foods.

    These foods seem great but if you have to watch carbs, some of these are too high.

    The best tasting chickens by far are those are air-cooled rather than dunked in chlorinated water (where they lose flavor) at the processing plant. Flavor-wise, the other details don't matter as much

    Thanks! You mentioned eating the base culture bread daily. Given I know you limit your carbs, I was wondering if that is actually true? It inspired me to ask you to do a day of eating!!!

    You nailed it in the opening remarks…. This places sales are more expensive than Walmarts regular prices. Really enjoy your Walmart and Aldi episodes, real sales with healthy options!!! Keep up the good job Bobby!!! Thank you!!

    A bit of cane sugar is way better than sucralose. A few grams of cane sugar never hurt anyone.

    Hail Mary’s has almond butter cups in the fridge section. Also, Late July’s chips and org. garlic hummus 365 brand are delicious. Further, Honey Mama’s has some great Kit Kat type candy in the fridge section as well. To end, the org. produce and vegan milk are great there: Bags of org. Pink Lady apples and avocados, along with my fav. almond milk Three Trees vanilla flavored. To boot the org. Mountain Honey is great.

    Bobby, corn isn’t a nutrient dense food? No need to remind you that Mesoamerica thrived on corn, and yes, US corn is GMO, but Mexican corn isn’t (it was a full battle against Monsanto) being my point, not all corn is bad 🤷🏻‍♀️

    If I ate only the things you recommend, my grocery budget would at least equal my mortgage. I understand that you are trying to help people eat better, but not everyone (actually, hardly anyone I know) has a very large budget for food.
    Yeah, I took a look at Thrive Market. They are definitely not less expensive than the supermarket where I work. Exact comparison on just a couple of items was around 25% higher than my store prices.

      Everyone talks about how expensive it is to eat healthy but how many times a week do people go out to eat and how much do you spend? I'm sure for that same money & probably less you can eat healthy for the week.

      @@DavidGonzalez-lw1pl I cook everything I eat. The rare occasion I eat something I haven't cooked is when it's someone else's treat, or when traveling. I was raised to be careful with what I put in my body. To know it. To know what is in my food. I was raised by someone who was extremely food insecure in their past. While I'm not truly frugal, I don't waste money. I have never, and will never, pay $40 for a burger, or $100 for a steak.
      I do know how to eat healthy, but it does not have to cost that much.
