    Well done video. I have an SV540 with the same problem, (at this point in time I'm sure I have lots of company), but I did everything you did in the video, but still have the same problem. Next I'm going to try enlarging the idle jet hole bore. After all it is a Chinese knock-off!

    Somehow the jet on my carburetor on a Husqvarna riding mower got a real tiny what looked like a piece of plastic in it. My mower was running terrible. It wouldn't run at all, or idle, without the choke on. That very small piece clogging up the jet was the culprit. Good explained video. Thanks!

    This is the sanest video I've yet seen about surging mower. I have an older 17.5 hp Kohler. I assume the low jet is in the same spot. I'll check it out. Thanks for your video.

    I have a similar engine in my Cub Cadet xlt 1040. Mine surges in any throttle setting - i have to put the choke on to nearly full to get it to run fairly smooth. I tried a new carb and runs pretty much the same. Replaced fuel filter, spark plug, and air filter. Any thoughts what my problem is?

      @WeekendHobbyMechanic  Рік тому +2

      Pull the fuel line off the carb. Check to see if fuel is pouring out. I had one with a plugged line and wasn’t filling the carb fast enough. Also check the fuel shutoff solenoid is working properly.
      Did you try opening the pilot jet? 2:45 in the video.

    How did you know that was the pilot jet and not a Welch plug? Is that a Walbro carb?

    • @WeekendHobbyMechanic
      @WeekendHobbyMechanic  Рік тому +2

      I worked on old Walbro carbs before and the pilot jet wasn’t hidden. (Same spot)

    So on the cub cadet I asked you about is totally destroyed. It is no longer produced. The only option for me is to find the same used motor. Otherwise this 120 hour mower is junk. Appreciate any help. Thanks

      @WeekendHobbyMechanic  Рік тому +2

      You mean the motor is blown? If the mower deck is good I’d be looking for a junk mower with a good engine & swap it out.

    I have an SV470 with this problem. If I engage the blade it doesn't surge. I've pulled the carb several times and adjusted the idle screw with no change. Pulled the gas cap thinking the vent was plugged but that didn't do anything. I'm stumped

    hello sir, I have a 17hp Kohler Courage with the same promblem. It's about to run me crazy, I bougth a new carb for it with the same adjusting screw on it(but no welch cover) and I adjusted it several times while it was running and there was no effect to it. What esle can I do? My next step is to go back to the orginal carb that was on it, clean it again and try. But if that dosen't work I'm thinking of taking the whole motor out!! It's got me!!

      Wow.,,a new carburetor should’ve worked. This Issue causes a lot of headaches .
      You could try a bigger jet.

      @@WeekendHobbyMechanic Ok. I'm not that knowledgeable on getting a bigger jet. How will I go about getting a "bigger jet"? I see on your video you have a Walbro carb on the mower, I have a Nikki, would that make any difference?

      @@ronniewortham3260 My mistake. The Low speed jet is not replaceable. You will need to drill it slightly bigger. I don't have a video on this yet. Watch this video at the 4:20 mark. He drills it out slightly bigger. ua-cam.com/video/Xl2UrR_Rx8M/v-deo.html.

    Darn them engineers for hiding things like that. I have a SV725 and it refuses to idle. I believe it has the Walbro carburetor

    your title says kohler command , but the shroude says kohler courage,?... there is a big difference in a command ,and courage.. i have kohler commands that are still running very well, but you couldn't give me a newer courage theyre junk constantely leaking oil everywhere

    Why do they block off the idle screw like that?

    • @WeekendHobbyMechanic
      @WeekendHobbyMechanic  4 місяці тому

      Probably for Emission reasons. They don’t want millions of mowers out there running rich.
