I have been stalling on doing a conversion until i see what kind of sorting people have gone through to get the right recipe. I always thought the LS 3 was power but not balanced for the 80. The 2.8 seemed too weak. This video has make me think about the 8 speed transmission as a good balance. How much to do a new crate 2.8 with a new 8 speed from you guys? thanks
The Cummins is kind of limited to 1999 vehicles and older, but I don’t recommend it for anything over a 97. Too many other vehicle systems get compromised.
That little 2.8 cummins seems to power that 80 series really well. You jumped right up to 65 like it was nothing. Do you think the eight speed is definitely the way to go versus a 6L80? Thank you 👍
There are nay sayers, but they would change their tune if they drove one. There's plenty of power. Not so much with the 6L80 though. It's not so much at speed where there is a problem. It's taking off from a start. We've tried several different torque convertors and intercooler sizes with no good results. The 8 speed is the way to go.
@@procruiser Excellent 👍 I believe you. I transport heavy equipment and I have a 18 speed I would not want less the closer ratios make a huge difference. And low end torque I run a Paccar 13 liter 510 hp 1850 torque so I understand how low end torque and gearing can move weight. Thank you 👍
@@sergiolozano6205 yes it vibrates. I don’t know if what I drove had that 8 speed transmission tho - could’ve made a difference? I thought it was underpowered. I have driven my friends immaculate 6bt Cummins 80 and it was astonishing how much torque it had. The only diesel I’d consider. I won’t comment on the cost of my swap bc it’s different than most scenarios and no one else would have these circumstances
Never thought to stage different Cruisers to get the job done, what a life!
I’m so glad you are uploading videos on Sunday,
Great content keep it up
Looking forward to bring my FJ to you
PRLC was phenomenal to work with on my project.
Too much fun getting home.
That thing is SO much louder than the other Cummins you’ve driven and made videos of.
Is it the 8spd from a Dodge and its Tcase as well? Nice build.
So, just wondering, which manufacturer makes the BEST Adapter for the use of an R 2.8 to a GM 8L trans?
Unfortunately, We are unfamiliar with that subject. The only auto we offer is the ZF 8HP.
Is there a readily made adapter for the ZF 8HP@@procruiser
Yes, Axis Industries can supply you with all of the parts necessary for the swap @@Notstradamus
Freakin amazing build!
Thanks!
Please do a cold start on the isf2.8 in the winter.
That’s my dream… putting a Cummins in my 95

Iam curious what you think it would cost to do a 2004 Tacoma EXT can do this same swap ?

@@procruiser What torque converter rating/stall speed did you decide to use in this 80-conversion?
You should consider leaving a Landcruiser in my yard as well! Just in case you get stuck in Utah 😂😂
I might just do that. Crazier things have happened. Thanks for the offer!
What MPG does the 2.8 get?
It depends on which trans and how built the vehicle is. I've seen 22 on the low end and 30 on the high end.
I want one!
….The LS goes into miiiine! I am soooo excited for Proffitts to put that v8 in my fj80! (I’ve driven a 2.8 80 in Bozeman and prefer the v8 🤷♂️)
I hear the Cummins in a LC creates a lot of vibration… would you say that’s true?
How much are you paying for your LS swap?

R2.8 is just too small for an 80. A 6BT is what 80 needs!
I mean with those tires on it, of course it’s going to accelerate decent. Those are basically worthless.
They look like they’re made for indoor use only
