Great video Kyle. I have an ID.4 as well. I accept the charge handle locking to the vehicle as a safety feature, so that if I leave my car at a public charging station to go to a store, someone can't unplug my car when it's locked. I usually end the charging session via the Infotainment screen, or off the dispenser's screen. At this point, the charge port unlocks. I look forward to each and every one of your videos. Keep up the great work!
I think you’re underselling this kind of video. I’ve done 60k miles in EVs but I’ve never driven or been in an ID.4 and I found this video quite informative.
This is perfect, Kyle! This fills a huge gap in videos for EV novices. The info you provide is basic, clearly presented, and nothing superfluous. Like I said: Perfect!
Super helpful. I bought my ID.4 last month and the dealership was less than useless. No one showed me anything. Then my car was at the dealership for a month waiting for a part. I only had my car for about 4 days and I was struggling to figure out cruise control, how to charge (asked a nice EV6 owner), is my car locked, lots of stuff. This is what I needed.
Been driving your same spec ID4 for a couple months and this is the clearest, most concise while being all encompassing, and informative video of this type on the ID4 I’ve seen. Especially concerning the drive assist which can be tricky to get familiar with.
I just bought this car because of your review. You are the best. This car makes the transition to ev easy. You really get alot of car for the money. What I personally is the display in front of the driver.
Awesome introduction! I think you covered all the aspects that new owners might find confusing. Regarding the heated seats, after I got tired of turning them on manually every time I got into the car, I discovered a setting that automatically turns them on when you get in the car if it's below a certain temperature. Now, there's one less thing I have to fiddle with when I get in the car.
Thank you Kyle! Not everyone who buys an EV is an enthusiast so this is a great video series for those who purchase electric in order to eliminate paying for gas. I second the suggestion regarding charging etiquette. Also, some mention of resources for home charging would be appreciated.
Something not mentioned with the drive modes is that ‘Sport’ mode will give you a bit of regeneration when you are in D mode (about half as much as if you were in B mode)
I've been following your channels for quite a while. Last May I did get a model y duel motor extended range., and I love it. Now I'm considering getting an ID 4 pro s for my wife. I found a 2023 with low miles and the SK On Battery. I noticed it has a recall not completed yet, 24V-344,mfg recall # 919A. After some research on the nhtsa bulletin it says less than 1% of vehicles are affected by this defect although I'm just trying to confirm if VW has a fix for it and it's going to be an easy fix for me if I buy the vehicle. I come to you because I've seen so many of you are UA-cams and recognize that your technical prowess goes well beyond many. Thank you in advance, Rich Davidson.
Thanks for explaining braking in D, it makes sense if you keep green bar from hitting end you are staying off of the physical brakes. I appreciate that detail, all the dealers couldn't explain that, it makes sense if true. I find B can bring the car to a complete stop with my very first test drive, I think it's just my internal calibration for normal driving. I am just not in a hurry to get behind the next car in traffic.
I have seen several videos not just in this channel griping about the rear window button. Seems a fairly benign feature to get up in arms about. The only thing I could think of to make this breakdown better would be going over the native UI and maybe some information (if available) or battery preconditioning when en route to chargers and how the UI handles providing charging station information. From my understanding the Mustang does a fantastic job of this where others fall far short.
My Audi Q4 E-Tron has been great! The adaptive cruise and lane centering is perfect. When I drive my F-150 with lane centering it’s all over the road, VW & Audi has some of the best lane centering and they give you a capacitive touch steering wheel!
Great video Kyle. And good timing for me since I will get my ID4 next week. I live in Canada and I choose the thermo pump option. I know that it helps to warm the cabin but does it also help the battery too? thx
A question for you all. I'm thinking of getting an ID. 4 but have see some other videos that have said that VW is not forthcoming on their over air updates and other problems. What is the collective experience from those who have them? Love your reviews and I think this channel is much needed for the novice and the EV detractors.
Always enjoy your informative videos.. One big question How can i lock in my RECIRC Air ,instead of pressing the button ON every time I restart a new driving session?
Miss information on the adaptive regen in D mode. It is something that can seem quite different if you drive the car for the first time. Once you get used to it it's awesome.
I must say i listen to all your video on the ID.4 and enjoy them very much.I should get mine soon.At 6 minutes in the video you say that if you have a dog in the car you can let the ventilation running but you have to let the keyfob in the car.My question is how will you be able to unlock the car when you return to the car unless it is not locked.I presently have a 2021 Bolt and i can't leave the keyfob in the car because i will not be able to lock the doors.
You can also lock (push in the door to lock it) and unlock the door to unlock the charge cable. And you can seit it up to it unlocks the cable when its finished charing.
Have they fixed that annoying issue with id3 when interior lights won't go on on door open after the vehicle awakes from the deep sleep during a night in the garage?
Love your channels Kyle. Specifically Out of Spec Reviews. I have a 2023 ID.4 Pro (LG battery) Question about the custom drive mode. Can you help folks understand what the different settings do? I can’t find any info about drivetrain and driving dynamics. What do those do when customizing drive settings?
Dear out of spec, I an an owner of the 2024 id4. I agree with all your point except the lane assist. It seems that they completly fucked it up. Mine does not auto center but vibrates and makes a ping sound if the car is out of center. However it will correct the car back in the lane after the sound and vibration marker, it is however super annoying since you have to keep it center or it will make a noise and vibrstion otherwise
1 think I don't understand why they must make it so complicated the windows and mirror? Futuristic or fast repairing? Great explanation and video as usual
I just got my 2023 ID.4 Pro RWD on Saturday. Im loving this car so far but, As I started driving my car home to work and vice versa, I have noticed a rattling sound on the passenger side. is this a known issue? it's like the passenger side door is rattling with stones inside, or some rocks are hitting the door from outside (of course im driving in a freeway). no issues how the car run. but it's super annoying to hear this rattling sound.
Which model year was this video based on? You mention the software is kind of buggy, but I read that the issues experienced with 2021 and 2022 models are resolved for the 2023 model.
Kyle, do you know what happened with the expected software update. I had an appointment and my local dealer called to let me know that VW had canceled the recall to get the update.
Slower is cheaper and better for thebattery, typically over night at home charging. The fast charging is when you are roadtripping and need it do be done in 30-35 minutes.
Great idea with a guide series. Everything the UA-cam channels can do to introduce EVs to ICE drivers will make them feel more comfortable working through their decision to EV or not to EV. I think that although the typical first questions are range and charging, most newbies just want to know more and just get started with those two questions. Good job staying with the easy layman topics so as not to induce that eye glazing over effect. Cheers.
Great video, have a Model Y and ID4 coming in the next few weeks. I live in MN and wonder about charging to 90-95% regularly during winter specifically. Since the battery is constantly discharging to heat itself, is it harmful to charge to higher %? My utility charges $0.04/kWh from 11PM-7AM and my charger only works during those hours but I often don’t drive until late afternoon or evening.
My concern with the VW is software complaints. Software is so critical today. Do I trust its auto features ? To keep me on the road ? Will it fail? I’d like to see stats on its usage and errors it’s made
We have a VW ID.4 Pro and the infomation screen froze. How do you reboot it? We have tried walking away and restarting the car, holding the icon in the top right corner and nothing worked. We ended up driving to the dealership to have the service technician take a look at it, the specialists for the electric car does not work on the weekend. So we are without until Monday. Not good. I realize this is a common issue with most electric cars and I think someone should be able to help reset it.
Sometimes my ID.4 doesn’t release the charge cable even if I click the unlock button on the remote. I wish they had an unlock button on the charge screen like Tesla does. Several times I have had to go in the cargo compartment and pull the emergency release. Mostly when the CCS fails to initiate
There is an option in the software to not do that. A lot of jokers at hotel chargers unplug your car and plug theirs in. Not ideal if there is no nearby fast charger.
You can recharge at stations with anyone’s login - Electrify America, EVgo, or ChargePoint. The latter two let you use any contactless credit card with no account.
Actually it is GREAT that the VW locks the charger into the port while charging. People have begun to try to unplug other people’s cars and steal their charge. They can’t do this with an id4!
Capacitive touch buttons are not the way. They are annoy and distracting. Those window controls would drive me nuts. Just have separate buttons for all four windows. How hard could that be?
Thus is a fun video as most of your others are. Like the new charging station, in the dark, that didn't work. Or tge night you got a call, new id3 I think, died so you went to help. And 4+ hours later, after you went back home for cables to charge that took a, oh, it wouldn't charge. OK, let's tow it, uh, Volkswagen doesn't have a way to hook up to tow. But it was just 1.3 miles to the dealer charger - Where is that tow truck 3 hours later. Look at all these instructions. What about old gas open the door, start the engine, don't hunt a computer screen- push that visible lit button, drive off. I. Just paid off my charger and diesel, no need for an electric. But you ARE the guy who knows EV and should be head of any standardizing group in America. Because you point out all the fails, of all the charging stations and cars and trucks. Most enjoyable and informative .
I've owned an id.4 for about 3 weeks now and thanks to this video I've picked up some cool tips and tricks. Thank you as always Kyle.
Great video Kyle. I have an ID.4 as well. Nobody does it better explaining in the simplest terms, a most informative and long overdue video, keep them coming
I think you’re underselling this kind of video. I’ve done 60k miles in EVs but I’ve never driven or been in an ID.4 and I found this video quite informative.

I have the exact car and love it. 6k miles and running strong with no issues whatsoever.
Been driving your same spec ID4 for a couple months and this is the clearest, most concise while being all encompassing, and informative video of this type on the ID4 I’ve seen. Especially concerning the drive assist which can be tricky to get familiar with.
How do you like it so far?
Why do you want to support VW after dieselgate? Should buy from EV start ups that don’t lie and cheat like VW

Best quick review I have seen of the ID4 , I have been driving the ID4 for a year and learned a lot from watching this :)
I've owned a ID.4 for a week. Just learned that you can change the lane centering on cruise control - Thank you!!
Thanks from a happy new ID4 owner in Denmark ;-)
I've had mine for about a month and learned a few things here. Thanks again.

Great tutorial, by the way. 🎉

@@petermacfly6574 ID4 PRO. Great cabin space. The Lane keep assist catches you out from time to time. I always turn it off every time I enter the car.
Just got an ID.4 and this video is awesome! Thanks.
Using my company’s vehicle tomorrow. This helped! Thanks
Suggest a quick blurb about charging etiquette at the end for each car you review
