You have such a positive attitude as you talk about known problems that the manufacturers should be fixing before delivering these vehicles. No one, especially a first time EV buyer wants to deal with these deficiencies right out of the gate. They need to get the engineers working and fix these things before delivery.
Volkswagen was a bit fast with the rolling out of their MEB cars, that is true. But one has to admit, that the they would never deliver cars with significant damage or with a quality as bad as Tesla‘s. Softwarewise something has to happen defenetly… I hope they hurry! 😌
We love our 22 ID.4! It is a RWD Moonstone Gray. No faults or issues after 2.5 months. We charge mainly at home with Grizzl-e Level 2 charger.
I wanted an id.4 but I bought a model 3 instead. I still want an id.4. Lol
@@xxscottvv Can you advise why you like Id4 better than M3? I am debating to buy Id4 or not, car waiting at the dealer!
@Vijay Katakam the model 3 is set up like a sports car inside. The seats are a little uncomfortable. There's also a ton of random cabin noise. The drive train, super charging and tech in the car helps make up for it.
@@xxscottvv ahhh man, I think the model 3 seats are some of the most comfortable I’ve ever had! Super soft and comfy
Parking sensor, bent pin in wiring harness. Have exact car delivered 10/31, that is what my dealer found working with VW Chatanooga Engineers. Fixed and working perfectly since pin in wiring harness connector fixed under the hood.
I have driven all type of cars, from rangerovers to bentleys but I was amazed with VW ID 4. I think it's much more comfortable than all teslas. I am planning to get one soon. It's very very comfortable and quite. The built quality good. The suspension is soft yet when you go on turns it's not bad. If we realize just what we need in a car, a comfortable ride from Plot A to Plot B. I think Id4 ticks all the boxes. It's not as powerful as a tesla, but as a daily driver I prefer comfort.
Kyle could sell ID.4s on snowy days he is so optimistic and cheerful.
Waiting to see your fast charging test. I did 9% to 80% at an EA 350kw station in 31 minutes, after driving long distance on a freeway with temps in the mid 50s
Awesome video, very informative. I'm in the UK and undecided between paying the extra for the GTX or going for less fancy stuff and getting the AWD Life Pro. I need AWD for my job and the ID4 is the first EV that finally fits my needs at a decent price point. Keep up the great work... and the ID4 content, it's much appreciated.
just finished a 3200 km road trip through Norway in average -22°C weather and it was quite good, only had an Issue where due to the cold weather the 12V Battery couldn't charge and the electronics in the car would occasionally turn on and off.
I used many different icedubbed winter tyres and got some Bridgestone on sale last year, best winter tyres Ever... I live in middle of Sweden so yes both ice and lot of snow here...
Love my ‘23 Pro S AWD!! 🎉
Thank you for making videos talking about how the cold is impacting vehicles.
What a great in depth review of your ID.4 in snow. I will sure to send this to a friend of mine who says “EVs don’t go in snow”. What a snow job! Does the ID.4 has a heat pump for cabin heating? My Mach E certainly doesn’t and I take a hit in winter. And as far as I can tell the Mach E does not have preconditioning for DC fast charging. My Model Y did. And the Mach E only has a Start Button in the app for remote heating; no specific choice of temp or seats or defroster. It sure seems that the ID.4 was built for the winter! Love your channel!
No heat pump for the US last I checked. And they stopped giving them to canada due to the semi conductor shortage. Might be back now.
Just got the same car here in Tennessee only Black Ext and Black Int. So far no warning lights or anything like that. Love this car! Also have a 2021 Model Y which I love BUT they are VERY different cars. The ID.4 is PERFECT for my wife who is not into the FSD stuff or anything like I am. The ID.4 rides so much better than the Y its crazy!
Tesla is poor quality American car. VW is German engineering and its cheaper too
It's the tires... Can get better tires without needing studs. Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires actually do reasonably well in packed snow braking tests.
If it's really bad out, I generally just don't drive unless I absolutely need to.
Great video! Someday I'd love to see (point me if it already exists) a video with the ID.4 going to and back from a ski resort. My ONLY range anxiety is going to a ski resort from the front range.
Used my traction mode during our big snowmaggedon in Vancouver Tuesday. Worked awesome even up big hills. Pirelli Scorpion snows on.
nice to know...yours is all wheel??
@@samjam6989 it is
Kyle , I picked up my ID.4 last week !! I love it. Thanks for all the tips and heads upSSS
One of the things I prefer in the ID4 vs the Tesla Y is that the glass roof is much less tinted in the ID4. In the Tesla the roof is so dark that you can barely see out unless it is very sunny, otherwise it is just like a mirror.
Great content as usual. Also, I love my ID. 4 and have said for the last year that it is an unbelievable value.
My ID4 is arriving soon, how many times did you need to service the car with Volks wagon in the year ?
Just traded in my 2021 RWD ID4 for a new 23 AWD. We have snow tires already for the RWD and transferred them over because the stock tires are silly in the snow. 7:15 OMFG Kyle! I have had ID4 since July 2021 and had NO IDEA about the heated seat double tap thing. Getting in in the winter its so tough to get all the stuff turned on and its one of the big hangups I have with the ID4. Hiding the heating controls behind a couple of menu clicks is such a pain in the ass. Thanks!
My go to channel for all things electric car, just got a ID4 UK 2025 model pro 4 motion, seems to have the preheater for the battery. Drives great really impressed. Have not driven in the snow yet.
Kyle, I commute over the Vail pass daily with my 23 ID.4. As long as I'm at a low soc I've had excellent rates of charge with a very fast charge curve at the upper ends. The best I've started was at 174kw on a warmer day but I've also started at 151 when it was 27 degrees and over 100 at 15 degrees all at the Frisco EA. The curve has stayed as high as 90kw and doesn't drop until you pass 80% soc. I've had worse experiences when I've been at a soc above 50%, more in line with what you've said you're experiencing. The pass has been no problem since I put on Michelin CrossClimate 2s
Hey Charlie, I have a ID4 on order and am curious if you think I could make it from Denver to Summit county and back in the cold with a full charge (176 miles round trip from our house to destination). I'd rather not spend the time charging in Frisco if I can avoid it. Based on some videos I've watched it seems like a no go but also hard to know how much range the car will get back from regen. Would love to know your experience. Thanks!
@@torstenhornemann5338 Yes, I do this all the time but if you're worried or don't want to take off on a full charge you can always charge at Frisco for your return trip.
@@charliespurgeon5480 Great to hear! Thanks for your response
May I ask when you put down the $100 deposit and were able to already have an ID.4 ? I put the $100 deposit down on Aug 1 and locked the order Sept 16 and was told I would have my car by Dec but its Dec and the car isnt even being produced yet ?
@@Allison11111 After failed attempts at other brands I was lucky, I placed my order in early August and received it at the end of Oct. I think configurations mattered as they seemed to produce AWD Pro S models with the galaxy gray interior first. You might try the VW order tracker chrome extension if you haven't as that can give you a little more detail and possibly a VIN # if it has hit production. Once you get a VIN your dealer can get you a more accurate delivery date than the VW website can.
Go for the nokian hakkapeliitta R5s. I put them on my e-golf, and I am exceptionally happy with the traction and the low noise. I'm still waiting for my ID.4 to be delivered to me on Vancouver Island. I recieved an update from VW and my delivery date went up to Q2 2024 from Q2 2023. I thought that the Chattanooga factory opening would put out for us up here but sadly no...
I'm with you. Studded tires for winter is the only way to go. Even in deep snow if you have hard packed snow as your base those studs will keep you going when other fail.
The ID.4 is tempting at times, but the software bugs are unacceptable and hold me back from considering one though the range is too low for my months of winter. Ground clearance is a bit low. Mostly though I'm spoiled by my '22 Passport with Blizzak DM-V2 winter tires, which drives like a stable tank in snow/ice. I loved my '13 outback but this Passport has been easily much more capable/stable in my winter conditions.
I've had a few winter tires, but nothing so far has come close to the deep tread Blizzaks for reliable traction in horrible conditions. Granted in my area I can spent 2-3 months rarely getting days much above freezing.
I just threw on Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV's on my ID4 AWD (Pro S 20") and I can't tell the difference between how it was before snow and ice and on today's very wet snow day that quickly froze over.
I live up a steep street and during the decline / incline I did a hard break test and it didn't care - traction control light didn't even kick in (only when making some sharp turns around the corner)
Giveaway is my efficiency is down 15% but to avoid putting on snow cables and getting stopped by CHP? Worth it. Just have to see now how badly that's going to affect drives down from a mountain into an inland area.
Really great review thanks. IDK how representative the bugs your car is experiencing is of other IDs but its concerning that given all the negative publicity, the size of VAG and the time since launch, they still seem to be unable to fully debug them. Whats more worrying is that VW have announced the facelift ID coming in 23 which they say will address interior quality issues and bring new software. Maybe they cant fix the existing cars, or dont want to put the resources in to doing it. Hopefully they do the right thing by existing owners and work out the problems.
I have a 2023 Pro s that I just got that's silver looks a lot like yours and mine handles beautifully we just got 10 inches of snow with drifting and I had to drive from the city out to the country with all these drifts and icy spots and I was just fine just went steady and kept my head and the car kept up its wonderful handling
I was wondering if you might answer some cold climate questions in a review.
Some I have (Wyoming)
1 do ev's keep the batteries from freezing
2 do they need to be plugged in for this or will they survive off the battery for few days.
3 I know from riding my ebike year around that my range on a cold battery went from 31 miles summer to 13 miles sub-zero. Is there an optimal temp for ev batterys to run at and can you adjust battery temp for colder days?
4 is it OK to leave your ev plugged into say a level 1 plug ((110) for days or weeks if you don't drive much in the winter (I am retired)
5 do all ev's have preconditioning and is it the same system for charging and cold weather or is there separate systems for each?
Thanks I love your channel and have learned so much from it. Just wanted to make a note that Medicine Bow camp ground in the big horn mtns broke ground for a SOLAR POWERED camp ground to be finished in 2024. So you can charge ev's and camp off main grid. Can't wait to see it.
Impressive handling and traction control tuning in the snow.
Recieved the same trim (AWD Pro) on 31OCT2022. Parking in the garage on L2 charger at 80% I am seeing only 173 miles range. Even at 100% charge only see 212 miles total, far less than the 255 that is advertised. I live in the greater Seattle area and had some snow recently, it performed amazingly and the heated stearing wheel is priceless! The windshield wipers make an aweful sound and skip all over the place. Overall love the vehicle but the range is a bit concerning. No airbag warning on mine, so far.
Winter neighbourhood that looks pretty much identical as here in Levis, QC, Canada, except for winter tires mandatory from Dec 1 each year, like... today but I have them on since more than a month now! You know what needs to be addressed on BEV cars, my ID.4 included? A wipers slot heater. Since there is no heat coming out from under the hood, snow accumulates there and changes to ice where the wipers need free space to move. I often struggle trying to keep the slot free of snow, when it gets too bad, I switch with my wife's car in the garage for a night to clean it up.
I was wondering how it would be as I don’t have a garage. I’m in Alberta. It gets winter and cold snaps.getting the battery warm is for charging time?re charging at home, plug it in over night outside to keep the battery warm…when it’s -20 or less out.
Hey what range do you get with your ID.4 in the winter? I have one on order from Desjardins VW and live in Sainte-Brigitte-de-laval so I'm very curious how it's going.
@@Outsider.Reviews Always depend on external temperature. Rules of thumb: 30°C: 17KW/100km - 20°C: 19KW/100km - 0°C: 23KW/100km - -20°C: 28KW/100km. If you start your car outsides, it takes some KWh to heat up the cabin and battery to operating temperatures: battery will heat up to 6°C initially if colder than that. Make your calculations: the battery has 77KWh. You can plan for +/- 300km in general in winter and 400 in summer.
@@andreverville9492 could be worst lol I still think the ID4 is the ideal choice for me but the waiting time here is sooooo long lol
Kyle, your reviews rock as always, keep it up!
Id be interested to see how a Michelin CrossClimate 2 tire performs on this. Seems like the stock all seasons do decently well apart from stopping distance. CrossClimates are kind of the best of all worlds, dont have to change them out in summer, but still get significantly better grip and handling in winter/snow/rain. I have them on my Santa Fe and they're seriously impressive.
Yes indeed. I have them on my Bolt and I do not fear winter anymore. With the ID.4 being AWD I can't help but feel that it'd be unstoppable.
@@vocel343 i was so thankful to have them this past weekend. Seriously turns my measly Hyundai into an unstoppable tank.
Great vid, nice to see that I could use my ID.4 in so less than favorable conditions. Just an FYI, Volkswagen still hasn't updated their software or the app and key features from other manufactures are still missing from the ID line, some of which are on their ICE cars. Would love to see a vid on tires, I have to get some soon and would love to see which tires would best fit my needs.
I really wish my ID.3 had a heated windscreen for demisting :(.. The south of the UK is where All Season tyres make sense in winter as we mostly just have a cold, wet winters, with maybe a day of some snow. But then the whole country shuts down if snowflakes hit the ground anyway.
I own a 2022 ID4. This is an awesome vehicle and is one of the best cars I have ever owned. I have owned BMW's, etc. The ID4 is awesome in the snow, rain, etc. I have to be reminded it is an electric car. I
Feeling a little envious , preordered my Id.4 in October not likely to get one until end of 2023. Nice video.
I just got my ID.4 and also got in home charging so I'm changing the pattern you're seeing!
One day a year of ice and snow in Seattle (or Portland) -- ha ha, right! Portland in particular can get really bad ice storms, especially when wet marine air meets the cold coming east from the Columbia River Gorge.
11:15 where actual driving starts
I’ve enjoyed my ‘21 ID4 Pro S AWD for the ~14 months I’ve had it. I’m gonna have to try that esc hot key 😂 otherwise esc sport is a bit painful to get to. Time to put my Nokians on soon! 😅😹😸
Are those 20" wheels? If so I'd be curious if you could do another test in the snow with winter tires on . I don't drive enough to change them this year but might do winter tires next year.
Nice POV review, lots for perspective customers to take away.
I'm also a huge fan of the Nokian tyres. Makes my Touareg a winter Tank.
Yes to winter tire testing.
North American spec ID.4s have resistive heating for the cabin. European spec ID.4s use a heat pump, which is much more efficient. That will cost Chattanooga-built drivers mileage in the winter. On the flip side, the car has a heated windshield, seats, steering wheel, seats, etc etc. It's different from jumping into an ICE Corolla that can make a 90 F cabin.
Very good and useful video, thank you!
New ID.4 owner from Finland.
Pretty sure in normal usage people would clear the snow from the car before they leave, so the external sensor obstruction shouldn't be an issue. At least in Northeast/Midwest winter culture, don't know how you do it in CO 🤷🏾♀️
And the 2024 model comes with both en route and manual battery reconditioning 😊
Plus, it's recommended not to drive in B mode in the snow
Would be nice to see a review like this for a Model Y, this is my first winter with it, and trying to figure the best driving mode on icy roads. I have nokian hakkapeliitta r5 on my M.Y.
My new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV stock Michelin self-seal tires were WORTHLESS on snow a week ago. I had the Nokian R5's mounted two days ago and today on the fresh snow i didn't slip a wheel, it's a totally different car now.
Good video. Would like to see other EVs in the snow too and maybe a video on this car again once you get snow tires. I think the issues you’re having with it are probably wiring harness issues because this is probably from one of the first batches of ID.4s from the Chattanooga plant.
All great information. Looks kind of flat though. Where I live it’s all hills and mountains though, which is totally different than what I saw in your video. Thanks again.
Kyle - Please explain the value proposition with more details. How do people afford a $55,000 EV? I thought the revised tax credit didn't kick in until January?
I'd love to see more "real world" testing. If parked overnight with an 80% charge, how much is left in the morning? In Minnesota. In January. At -30. With no garage.
I just left mine outside while on a trip for 6 days. I think it lost ~3% with most of the nights being in the teens.
I agree with your comment. There is a lot to be learned about EV’s in Minnesota winters. There is a big diffference between teens and -30 or lower (in Northern Minnesota). Even regular lead acid batteries struggle in MInnesota winter’s. Of course, so do the engines.
At -30 couldn't you just keep it plugged in like an ice engine and turn on the HVAC 20 minutes before you leave for work.
@@hispasian17 now this is the info we are looking for in the North
My creator did lots of real-world overnight winter testing in Timmins - Shania Twain's home town. After 18 Sub-Arctic winters, he left for college. Never went back.
Once you see the Michelin CrossClimate all seasons tyres, you might change your mind. They are better than some winter tyres. Ok, not in that snow, but in the intermediate seasons or warmer winter days, wet roads, they are better than pretty much all winter tyres. So, for those who don't have lots of snow, they might be better as you might drive from a dry are to some wet one and you are safe.
Unfortunately Michelin doesn’t make any of its CrossClimate (CC2 and CC SUV) in the staggered sizes for the 19” ID.4 wheels. The 20” wheels have CC options, though.
Are you running the CC on an ID.4? I've heard some reports of higher road noise and reduced range with them over stock tires, bit others saying they've not noticed any significant difference.
My car isn't even here yet, so I'll have a while before worrying about that (unless I get cursed with the Bridgestone crap tires...), but they are def the tire I'm most interested in for next set when the time comes. Had very good experiences with Michelin overall, and the design of the CC2 look amazing.
@@michaelcummins5974 Sorry, I am not there yet, still on ICE. Maybe the next one will be an EV.
@@ContraVsGigi gotcha. I can't wait for my 23 AWD pro S, Arctic Blue with Cosmic interior. Just hoping they have finally completely stopped shipping them with the rubbish Bridgestones. Seems like the other tire options they've used have worked out pretty well.

Awesome video!! I have an ID4 in the Chicago area and I'm wondering how it will fair in snow... Unfortunately I'm on OEM Bridgestone's and don't plan on new tires until the end of summer. I was going to go Michelin but now will look into Nokian..
Kyle,
Great video. I live in VT and just picked up the exact same model.
will you put a staggered set of snow tires or choose all the same size? Will you change the size as well and/or get new winter rims?
Thanks for another great video, Kyle. I would love to see a similar one with your friend's Ioniq 5; how does it compare in the cold and snow in terms of features, power, regen, and charging? We're considering these two cars for purchase by the end of the year and would love to have your thoughts. Thanks!

Your videos are great brothA just wondering if you can connect to the OBD port and get some actual battery statistics and information on how much power is being pulled. We like more detailed tech info please.
Nice snow review. But why no clips seeing the ID.4 driving from with outside view? Or put a 360º camera on top of the car roof
Can you do a review of your E-Tron in the snow please?
Question for you about the cold gating on the battery. Do you think highway driving will warm the battery up enough to unlock the higher charging kWs? I’d hate to have to charge for two hours at a time on a winter highway road trip …
In the video he mentioned fast charging sucks in the cold and never says it again. Then ends the video saying it's tuned for the cold, but didn't mention that there's no battery pre-conditioning to preheat it for fast charging. At 4 minutes 30 seconds he says he got 60 or 70 KW while charging, that's painfully slow to wait in the cold for a top up. Also he says all EVs have that problem, but Teslas do not, because they pre-condition the battery. WTH?
Can you please do a video with the RWD ID 4 with factory tires?
Thanks Kyle.
I would be interested in the Heat Pump versus no Heat Pump argument. Back in January VW announced that they would not be installing heat pumps in North America due to the chip shortage. I can not find a definitive answer as what is going on now as the two deals I’ve asked here in Canada have given me different answers. One is saying and new vehicles will have them.
Also, what tires would you install? The OEM tires have different widths. Do I stay with wider rear tires?
Great info and details about the cold weather use of this car, thanks. These are most of the reasons I put a deposit down on one in Canada, unfortunately VW has not bean able to deliver any significant numbers to us. @outofspecreviews Kyle said he was going to talk about the regen mode at the 8:24 minute but I didn't hear anything about it later in the video?
I test drove the ID4 and really liked it, but for: the skinny uncomfortable arm rests, the lousy tech, and of course.... the supercharging scene, notwithstanding the problem of not having a conditioned pack for charging. Did I mention no frunk? Glad to see people buying them and I see alot on the road in NC. ( I drive a Model Y.)
Armrests are no more... 2023s have a redesigned center console and no armrests.
The tech doesn't hold a candle to Tesla, true. But it's passable in the newer iterations (3.0 and up), and you don't have to go into a damn screen to open the glove box, move vents, etc. It's far more livable than the Tesla design, but far more laggy and less refined.
Charging is def better for Tesla right now, but that is changing quickly too, and for most people will be a rare inconvenience as you mostly charge at home.
The existence of a frunk is evidence of poor design. That space is much better used in the cabin, or for making components easier to access for maintenance. The only reason for having frunks is that we are conditioned to expect a hood designed for an ICE. As we get used to the new order of things, that wasted space will go away entirely and be better used inside the main cabin. I will say the one good application for the frunk is a small sealed compartment for a travel charger, so it's not buried under cargo in the back when you need it. There's an aftermarket kit that lets you add a small frunk to the id4 that's about right size for this. Also, the huge frunk in the F150 would be more useful in the context of a pickup with an open bed. In a passenger vehicle it's just kind of a waste of space that should be better used through better design.
The model Y is fast and the infotainment is snappy and overall well designed, but for everyday use where you're not really messing with the screen that much or trying to drag race, the id4 is much more pleasant experience with a much better overall build quality. There are still issues... I'm looking at you haptic buttons and piano black finishes, rear window button nonsense, etc... but I like the id4 better overall than all the other EVs I've gotten to drive (quite a few, including model Y), and it's cheaper than most of them to boot. When I get my hands on a Rivian, that will likely change, but also talking about 2x price there.
I bought an ID 4 2023 for my wife and she loves it! She is short and she can see so well and so can I out the front of the car. My brother has a model Y and all he can do is complain about how big the front end is and how he can't see that well over the hood. So that's where your front is! Most people I talk to don't use it anyway and it makes the front end longer.
@@davidwestlund8954 How big the front end is..... LMAO!
How do the LED lights handle the snow? Do they generate enough heat to melt the snow so that it doesnt build up? I heard that is a real big problem with the Rivian R1S/T headlights. Update: Woops Ishould have watched then posted as you did cover the Rivian headlight issue.
I didn’t see Kyle’s content yet Re Rivian headlights. Fwiw in my case was driving in a storm and ice was caking up on my R1T like any other vehicle, and my lights were fine. They have PPF and ceramic on them, that may have helped. The standard Pirelli 20” AT’s however, not a help. Just put on some Nokian LT3’s today, actually.
Thank you for the great video. We just took deluvery on our 2023 id 4 and we were wondering what do we need to to to keep the car in neutral when going throigh a car wash. Here in NYC they dont let us sit in the car as it goes through so there must be a way to set it in neutral and keep it there when we step out. TIA
Kyle, you mentioned you thought the pack tries to keep itself at 77 F constantly. Have you tied reading the OBD data yet? My ID.4 did not seem to, and in fact cooled down while driving in the cold after a cold-gate fast charge session even when the temps were always below 50F.
Why All Season tires and not All Weather tires? All Weather tires can be 3PMSF tires.
I know Toyota Subaru puts there new type of display over the steering wheel, this one is looking through the steering wheel, what is your thoughts!
Does all this apply to the Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro? Very cool to learn about the details of the MEB architecture and engineering behind it.
So the German AAA did a test to see which car heats up the fastest and also which EV holds the temperature longest to test the insulation. EVs need good insulation to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat them up. The BMW iX as well as the VW ID came out on top.
Awesome video, very informative.
So gladd this video was made!
Nice review! Does this ID.4 has a heat pump? Because a lot of new 2023 ID4 don't have an heat pump and use a electric resistance heating. Thanks
Not having manual preconditioning makes this a no go. Wish I would’ve realized before picking up the 23 id4 myself recently on a whim. Dealer reassured 2 times it came with a charger walking to sign, then sure enough it wasn’t provided on 23s. Had to charge at EA for first few weeks while ordering and installing charger
Agree that they need to work on the preconditioning, but also for most users that won't be fast charging often, not a huge deal. But it will be a huge and welcome improvement when they eventually do it. More important, imo, is a heat pump.
The charger they used to include was $350 and slow level 1 only really suitable for emergencies and some travel situations. You're better off saving the upcharge on the purchase price and buying either a similar emergency unit for half the price, or put the money towards a much more capable portable charger. I ended up with the J+ boost charger, does up to 40 amps. I got a good deal on mine, but only ended up costing a couple hundred more than if I'd gotten the pretty useless included charger with higher purchase price on vehicle.
Good point Michael, and thanks for talking me off the edge. Lol. Makes sense that with inflation, had the cable not be left out, it may’ve resulted in a higher msrp
@@robertt1336 Indeed. As a general rule, VW charges you MORE for included/package accessories than if you buy them direct from the VW dealership. I bought some of my mats and things from a dealer and had them shipped to me for less than the same items would have been when I was optioning my ID.4 build.
I can't think of any reason why VW would charge you less than $350 more for an included slow charger. I was a little upset about it at first too, but it's actually better for the customer in the end to have more choices where to put that money.
Hey I was wondering why you don't recommend an extended warranty. My wife is putting about 20,000 miles a year on her current vehicle. After 4 years I would be getting close to the end of the battery warranty. I was thinking about adding ext. warranty mainly for the battery to allow longer use of the car before having to trade? Your thoughts. Thanks for all the great info.
The whole dash is lit up. Is there any warning lights not on lol
Love the video! We live in Reno-Lake Tahoe and looking at the AWD version for 2023. Which model would you suggest?
Ok. How did you get the car to stay on when you were outside? Mine turns off when I get out. The defogger is not that useful. Id rather use the electric window deicer which is awesome but I have to be in the car for it to stay on..
It looks like you're driving around in my parents neighborhood near Blevins
Okay..we get it. Get winter tires or park it until spring.
During a recent icy spell my Prius taxi driver had lots of trouble with grip. Any other hybrid/ electric owners the same?
Does this vehicle have a heat pump? If I live in Canada - Whistler...mild winters. In your opinion, do I need a heat pump?
Hi Kyle! Do you have a range test on a 23 AWD ID4?
If you don’t have a garage, it’s-23 now, do you need to pre heat the battery? Or is that just for charging?
Wide elbow rest in front?! Also, here and there some dfifferences in between European version. GTX was the only four wheel drive option when I ordered this car.
nokian, best winter tires, no problem launch control....
A question is if the battery is dead and frozen, and you attempt to charge it, whats gonna happen?
Good video. My rwd '21 id4 is pretty terrible in the snow. I would have liked to see Kyle do a little slight hilly driving. Flat roads seems doable in mine.. but I live on a very slight hill and unless I have some momentum there is no traction and I did get stuck twice last year in about 6 inches of snow, had to get out and do some snow clearing from under the tire. I have the stock tires so that probably doesn't help.
What do you mean with stock tires? Are that winter tires ore all weather tires?
Yours is rear wheel which is the worst configuration for snow. Best is all wheel drive, next is front wheel drive and last is rear wheel drive
@@samjam6989 Best wheel configuration for snow is *wheel with winter tire on it* . After that everything is secondary. Amount or position of driving axles don't matter, if wheels have no in the first place grip.
Once one has proper rubber wrapped around the metal rims, well all of the configurations RWD, FWD and AWD are workable. AWD does gets one crawling furthest up a bad icy hill, but all configurations will work for normal driving.
@@aritakalo8011 I don’t agree at all about your drivetrain configuration thoughts. Given crappy tires like what I grew up with in the 80’s-90’s front wheel drive was far superior for obvious reasons. Fwd vs rwd in slippery conditions aren’t the same at all.
@@ben3989 Unlike regular cars the ID4 has most weight on the rear axle and center of mass down low due to the 500 kg battery.
Could someone explain why there are no rear fog lights installed? Seems dangerous to me.
Doesn't the ID 4 have a glitchy infotainment system though?🤔 Some owners have experienced those kinds of problems.
13:10 if they were having a tough time with engineering the drum brakes to work with the awd system, why didn't they just use disc brakes? how much money are they saving by going with drum brakes in this day and age? makes me wonder what else they've nickle and dimed designing this car. maybe airbag components? judging by the airbag error light on the dash.
I wouldn't call an airbag light "a minor issue"
Got an ID.4 question, but not sure where best to post it. Am Interested in V2L/V2H. Is this definitely coming to ID.4 in 2023 (or all the ID.4’s retroactively capable of handling V2L , and the feature just requires an OTA FW update)? Thanks!
Super nice detail in your video. I’ve been waiting here in British Columbia for my 2023 Chattanooga built ID 4 since Jan 2022. Do you have any VW influence? Apparently we haven’t received any 2023s and won’t, is my understanding, until next year. Lastly, Does Mykala’s ID have a heat pump?
I've read in a couple of places that none of the US destined ID.4 have a heat pump. I'm also in BC waiting on an awd ID.4 with heat pump!
