    VW intentional did not include a Frunk, so that the shorter front end enables more cabin space, I think this was very smart.

    We have the 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S in the US and love it. Yes, the two button rear window things is just annoying to put it mildly. I have taken several road trips at this point and welcome two things: one, more regular software update and sooner access to Tesla Super Chargers. That's it. I still love ❤ the daily driving experience everyday day. God bless,

    I have had my 2021 AWD Pro for 2.5 years and love it. I drive 30K Km per year and it has been awesome in gas savings. I used to drive an Audi S3 and drove quite aggressively , I find this vehicle so relaxing that my driving habits have changed a lot and a lot less stress while driving during the day. My lease is up in just over a year so hopefully I can afford the $10-12K jump in pricing for the 2024's.

    Andrea & Zack ... great that you mentioned the charging stats; 175KWs is average speed for most EVs now. 10-80% in 28 minutes is a touch underwhelming; this is why charge curves are important. If you don't know what a charge curve is, it shows how long the 175KW rate will be maintained before the rate drops.
    Kind of important to mention what kind of charge port is used; NACS or the original CCS system. NACS will allow you to use the Tesla Charging Network. I found Electrify Canada to be reliable as opposed to Electrify America (could be due to less charging stations in Canada though). I would consider the Ioniq 5 EV over the EV6 since the EV6 isn't really a SUV.

    • @samjam6989

      Charging shouldnt be an issue from 2025 onwards as all cars including VW will be able to charge using Tesla superchargers and existing ID4 drivers will also be able to charge with an adaptor given from VW. So you will just plug and charge similar to Rivian and Ford which are using it now

    I never thought about people cross shopping this car against Tiguan. You go with ID.4 for one of the fundamental EV luxuries: the smooth, seamless, quiet propulsion. No quivers at idle, no power pause or bogging while waiting for a turbo or transmission to sort themselves out.

    If you are thinking about the 62 kWh battery ID.4 Standard or S trim, and worried about range, don't. I have a 2023 S RWD with the leatherette power adjustable, massaging seats, panoramic roof with oower sunshade, etc snd its been an amazing EV at a lower price point. But i still get all the options of the Pro S trim except for AWD which I dont feel I need living in Northeast Kansas. I get 220 miles of hwy range which is better than the EPA estinated 209, and between 240 & 290 miles of city range deoending on my driving efficiency. I love my 23 ID.4 S RWD abd road trip it all the time. Ive never had ti worry about the shirtter range either, so if you are looking to save sone money, the 62 kWh battery S trim RWD could be a great option for you without sacrificing options.

    • @pietwandelaar1743
      @pietwandelaar1743 Місяць тому

      Range is not an issue for daily driving, which typically uses only about 5 to 15% of battery capacity for most of us. I got the 82 kWh battery to provide more options on road trips and to be able to easily handle some degradation over the long run. However, it makes a lot of sense to opt for the smaller battery. Another bonus is a bit of weight reduction with the smaller pack.

    I have this car, in this model year and trim, and it's a great drive. The tight turning radius comes in handy more than you'd think. Even smaller turning radius than the Ioniq 5. I don't really have issues with the piano black, either, but I don't have kids with greasy fingers 😅

I drove last year's ID.4 along with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and both seem...adequate. I had trouble seeing the instruments through the Hyundai's steering wheel, but every car has quirks. • @StirfriedGerman
    @StirfriedGerman Місяць тому +1

    Too bad that North Americans are so starved for EV options compared to where I live (China). The ID4 is really not interesting. It has an old tech ternary battery and has trouble selling here, also because of the low tech interior which is perceived as basic (that's the Chinese opinion). VW are discounting id4 USD 8500 across the board in China, which brings the basic trim to less than $20,000. The higher versions get close to Tesla MY pricing and the latter runs circles around the ID4 in my opinion. Top version VW with 313HP is USD 33,300. And for USD 26.000, you can get the performance version of Geely E8 (look it up, Geely is Polestar, Volvo, Zeeker, Lotus and some more) with an LFP battery (Longer life both in charge cycles and battery degradation, less subject to igniting), 600+ HP AWD, a very refined interior and a nice ride with lifetime warranty. It's good that the traditional manufacturers are entering the EV game, but they still have some way to go.
    VW bought a stake in Xpeng, who actually make quite nice cars, and VW will use their drive trains and software to hopefully produce something more up to date. Currently the ID4 feels like the cheap Uber EVs that we have in China.
    Nice video nonetheless !

    I really want to like this, but I just can't bring myself. On the one hand I very much appreciate that it's a more conventional design that will age well, and the upgrades make it more enticing, but on the other hand, the capacitive steering controls and convoluted infotainment still make it a tough buy, especially when VW has pretty much admitted that they need to step back. If they had just kept the control scheme from the Golf MK 7.5 days, but updated with modern features, life would have been good. The problem with EV's and modern cars is that I don't want to feel like I'm getting what the kids call the ens***ification era of tech and consumer devices... I don't want to have a worse experience with touch controls and capacitive steering controls that area easy to trigger when it's worse than the experience I have now in a car with physical controls. VW could have really made their current cars if they hadn't decided to join the auto industry claw-back of ergonomic controls... like, who was the person who greenlit the toggle switch to operate front and back windows in the ID.4? Sometimes when you get to that level of skimping it's really telling of the mindset of the company.
