Great video, thanks! I'm hoping to buy a prebuilt shed and may have to install a ridge vent myself...this was super helpful to see how its done. thanks so much!
very good delivery of instructions. step by step explanation ...understandable detailed and Very easy to follow. It shows, you know what you are talkingabout and you are good at what you do.
AWESOME thanks for showing all how to DIY. Aurum is the best roofer in ATX area. i have used him on multiple houses for my own and my rentals. Honest fair and the best most professional work. thanks for being the best.
No, roofing over an existing roof is never recommended for several reasons: 1. Double the weight per square foot of roofing structure. 2. Flashings are very difficult to properly secure. 3. Top layer of shingles will never lay 100% flat making them vulnerable to wind damage.
I'm in the Georgia area. Looking forward to installing a ridge vent on my roof using your instructions. Any recommendation for the actual product to use? Thanks!
Whats sold at major hardware stores works perfectly fine. Make sure to also watch our How to install Ridge Shingle Video for the right way on installing the ridge shingle. Good luck! As always feel free to contact with any questions or concerns.
I have Ridge Ventilation already and have acquired a solar roof fan. Is it overkill to install it also.....along with the ridge vent system. My 3 story house is still hot upstairs where we sleep. I would think it should be cooler. Am going to install more vents to pull air in also. Thanks for any advice.
Richard, thanks for watching! And great question. Before anything I'd like you to check out our channel #AurumRoofing , we have a video on 3 free ways to Cool your attic down 2 of which you don't have to get on your roof. We also have a video on how you install a solar attic fan. Getting back to your original question.(not an over kill) When I install both types of Ventilations I like to install the attic fan about 4-5 ft down from the ridge vent. The reason why 4-5 ft is important, is because you don't want the fan to close to the ridge vent because you'll just be pulling cool outside air into your attic from your Ridge Vent and blowing it directly out of the fan(circling not good). 1 question. Is your attic being that it's 3 story, vaulted? If so I'd recommend you install some small 750's slant back vents from the roof and use these as a intec vent (3 ft away from the bottom edge) If it isn't vaulted and you are able to crawl near your soffit I'd recommend you remove any insulation away from your soffit vents, keep in mind you want to allow cool outside air in too not just focus on exhaust, intec is just as important. "Blow in from a straw doesn't work when you blow out of a barrel". Also, One of our latest video's "soffit don't work" make sure to watch it because it shows you actually what I'm talking about covered soffits. On the 3 ways to Cool your attic video there should be a link in the description to our website which explains ventilation make sure to check that out too. Good luck and I hope this helps. Make sure to subscribe, we have a new video coming soon on, how to install ridge shingles.
@@AurumRoofing Thanks so much guys! I think I need to do something before the hot hot weather kicks in! Even though 120 or 150 degrees feels the same in the attic....lol!
Just had a new roof put on and they installed ridge vent. Looking inside of attic I noticed that they only cut one side of the roof sheathing is that acceptable.
Are both sides equally pitched? In most cases both sides should be cut but sometimes if one side is flatter than the other it's normal not to cut the flatter side (to prevent a roof leak)
@@AurumRoofing Thank you for your immediate answer! We have monsoon rain and wind here. I'm afraid that those very strong winds could blow water up those slits, even if they're pitched (?). Same problem with roof fans.
I understand your concern, but most products are Dade County approved (makesure your product is), meaning they stand the test of hurricanes. You should be fine.
You are an f*ckin id*ot a co worker of mine wasn't wearing work gloves and got a sliver of pressure treated plywood in his hand two days later it festered and turned into septicemia and he almost lost his arm. After that Bird Construction issued a directive that requires all workers to use gloves as part of daily PPE.😮
Best explanation on ridge vents I’ve seen

Those boots look really comfortable. What brand are they?
Do you recommend shingling over existing shingles? Please let me know, thanks a lot!

How far do you hammer the nails down and what length do you use
2 1/2" hand nails and only hammer them down flat to the vent, DO NOT MAKE DENTS ON THE VENT OR LEAVE THE NAIL RAISED.

What length and type nails do I use to install the cap shingles over the roof vent?
2-1/2" ring shank roofing ridge vent nails preferably.

@@AurumRoofing both are equally pitched I think probably laziness on contractors part.
It's possible.
Doesn't rain get into the attic through those slits?
As long as the ridgevent is properly installed on a 4/12 pitch or above, you should be perfectly fine.

Orange chalk!!
HOW AND WHY DID YOU DETERMINE TO ONLY INSTALL 12 FEET of VENT? IS THERE A CALCULATION YOU USED??
