Refinishing this blue bathtub with the bathworks refinishing kit in white. I bought the kit from lowes but they also have it at Home Depot and Amazon. Didn’t want to remove tub during the DIY bathroom renovation so I tried a tub resurfacing kit. I have a bathworks review up on my page also with my thoughts on the project. Currently renovating our 1970s House 1 DIY project at a time.

I believe the tiles and tub were "sealed" with a shellac or a product similar. I'm pretty sure the process will include "roughing " up the surface of the product will adhere to the tiles & tub. I've seen several cast iron tubs being refurbished and sandblasting was used. Good luck!!

If I had to guess,it may have been a humidity issue during the curing process. Enamels are very sensitive to temperature and humidity during the cure

Try using duck tape to remove like you’re waxing hair off. Might work:) Saw a lady do that with old paint on a wood door and it was better than chemical paint remover.

We reglazed one of mine in our rental- my partner does bathrooms for a living so he did it himself. We did it 5 years ago and there are some chips in the bottom but you can’t see the original color just the primer. They’ve only cleaned with softscrub and the tenant says she’s really happy.
If you get it reglazed they will fully remove it all for you! Good luck!
When this tenant moves out that house will get a new bathroom, but reglazing allowed us to stretch it past paying off the mortgage.

I've done dozens of old tubs with the ekopel 2k kit and the oldest one is at 8 yrs now and still looks great. The biggest mistake most DIY-ers make that cause these problems is not properly cleaning the tub prior to application. When you think it's clean you need to clean it a couple more times. Use the blue lysol toilet cleaning gel to remove soap scum as it contains acid. Use 80 grit sanding sponge pads on any shiny areas as well.

Sanding, a good primer and an oil base enamel works amazingly well. Simple etching and bath kits have never worked for me. It was a trial and error for me as well, so I feel for you💔

Same here except we used a company. My tub was greenish blue & I hated it. So we had it refinished to white. Redid the bathroom & did grey marbled tile on the floor and half way up the walls and to the ceiling around the bathtub. At first it was all good. Then it started with a tiny bubble, then a few more & now there are several rips/holes in it. It's a nightmare. We used a small local business & it's been more than a couple years so it's not under any type of warranty. I dread having it redone because the smell is so bad that we have to leave but ripping out the tub to replace it would make it so we have to demo the entire bathroom the way the tile is.

Yikes… I used tub & tile and mine has lasted 2 years and still going good. I did drop a metal razor and chipped the enamel a bit but they have a repair kit which I used and it’s like it didn’t happen. Was skeptical at first, wanted to hire someone, was broke, and I did see the brand you used but I ultimately went with tub & tile. I’d do it again if the need comes up.

I repainted an old bathroom like this. I sanded first then added several coats then a top coat of polyurethane. It’s been 3 years. Held up ok surprisingly. Paint got ripped off where a shower cast was stuck to the tub wall. N a boy uses it n they don’t clean so. No harsh chemicals. Maybe a peal n stick thin type over top n use grouting. Idk bout the actual tub part

I’ve seen this issue SO MANY times with my clients, even w the professionals help.
My advice would be- hire a professional, stick with the white white you’re using… then when you see scrapes or nicks coming up (bc they will unfortunately!) buy epoxy appliance and tub spray paint & touch up those areas as you go.
Any little thing can cause a scrape (bc you’re painting over tile. But I noticed epson salt or bath bombs eat away at it.
You’re actually lucky it lasted a year… maybe try the touch up spray on top?

A job half assed is half done. Anytime you see a “hack” product or “super easy” product when it comes to actual important items like a shower, you have to go above and beyond.

Showers have gel coat, and its not something the average person can refinish... You need to sand the gel coat, and spray with an automotive type spray gun , spray sealer and then paint white.

These things really do not work. I tried an appliance spray paint on my bathroom sink. But it is peeling too now. I will just have to replace it, too.
The only thing that might work is Bath Fitters. They put a whole plastic sheet over your tub and tiles. Not cheap. But it will last longer. It's also warranted.
Or you would have to replace everything.
Reglazing the tub can be pricy. Compare it to buying a new tub. Just research it. You have to make the right decision for you.
If you are renting, it's not going to work.
I'm sorry. I'm going through the same thing. Good luck. Hope this helps.
    Blessings. 🙏🙏🩷🩷💐💐❤️❤️

So what happened is that you didn't acid-wash the bathtub or the tiles. The thing about having it sprayed glazed is that it'll come with a warranty.
Or what you could do is just rip it all out and have a fiberglass insert put in
