Well I'm from Bucharest and I frequently go on weekends to Ruse for lunch, and it has a pretty nice vibe and also new building projects. Yes, communism kept our countries artificially in the back, but now we can finally grow naturally and repair past mistakes.

@@kosmicheskiprah I haven't been to Sofia or Plovdiv. I follow a Bulgarian youtuber named Sofia Routes for some ideas where to go in Sofia. Regarding economy, I'm no expert but I see this trend here in RO and I guess it is the same in BG : the people from villages/extremely small towns go and work in the closest capital/medium-big cities and they bring the money back to the villages/small towns. I notice this when I go to my country-side. There is always repairs done to fences and facades and new houses (and also diaspora sens A LOT of money). So it saves the villages /small towns in the long run. I think once the bigger cities get too expensive regarding house prices, the next closest cities (previously neglected) are developed. This takes years I know, but at least it is development outside the bigger cities. Cheers!

I love Bucharest, I live here, but I must say one thing. It's developing in not the best ways.
For instance, the Aurel Persu street at 4:41 - that little street has now traffic jams. There are just way too many medium and high density developments in the area now (and it's not even been all built up yet, the nightmare will only intensify) and the infrastructure can't deal with it. That's what happens when nearly every other person in Bucharest owns a car.
Don't get me started on the national shame that is the Cathedral at 9:57 (you surely don't know this, but in that area where Casa Poporului is there was an entire hilly neighborhood of houses, called Uranus, only a small part of which survived to the south of Calea 13 Septembrie).
You don't seem to care about lost greenery, nor urbanistic concerns. Anyone can use Google Street View and make a video out of it without having to think.
P.S. A lot of shots from here are not in Bucharest proper, but in Voluntari.

We may not be completely in the Balcans, but you will find we have a very similar history to other Balcanic people. Language wise Romania is part of the Balcan sprachbund (an area that despite its different language shares a lot of Turkish, Greek and Slavic words due to having had a shared history for centuries.) All Balkans can share a glass of rakija (rachiu) on a veranda or in an "odaia" and eat ciorba (chorba), sarma/dolma or mici/cevapi with guests (musafiri). They can even have serbet and rose jam. @@generalofthearmieseduard9662 not sure what you mean by old central european arhitecture. There are lots of old buildings that will most probably be renovated, consolidated and some probably also modernized. Art-deco, modernist, neo-romanian, eclectic and so on. The trend of reintegrating old buildings into the urban landscape has been accelerated in the last years and seems to be led by the private sector, not by the municipality, as it used to be the case. So I think it will continue to accelerate. They will probably also build new buildings on the streets that had unsalvageble ruins and / or simply empty lots, completing various street fronts. Some of those buildings will maybe be inspired by older arhitecture, tho not many examples come to mind.

Until new ring road is completed, Bucharest will suffer from very poor road infrastructure and horrendous traffic (and some totally idiotic traffic rules which we'll need hours to analyze).
Central and near central locations remain better for living without the need to take your car (is a must if you can). A lot of areas in the periphery are built without having proper city plan and infrastructure. So you may see new block of apartments growing like tree leaves in the spring, but roads are very narrow, or non existent at all (so no asphalt, full with mud, dust and holes), sidewalks are inexistent, as well as recreation areas (parks, etc). You have this feeling that the constructors are trying to squeeze every single square mm for the blocks.
In comparison, Brasov has WAY better road infrastructure than Bucharest, although it is 7-8 times smaller in population.
