For everyone else’s info, always use some silicone between the rubber seals above and below the sink, this stops any potential for a leak. Never seal/caulk anything that you are then going to move about or agitate. Fix the waste pipe into place first then caulk/ silicone the gap after.

What arm hair to silicon ratio do you use for that perfect seal?

Can you get adjustable height bottle traps or did you do some very precise measuring to get the bottle trap aligned with the outlet pipe before setting the height of the countertop?

They are adjustable vertically and horizontally. I cant remember exactly but you have about 5cm each way. Search for 'bottle trap diagrams' and you'll get the idea.

    No plumbers mate?
Surely that's going to leak? You never get a water tight fit between the porcelain and the plug.

@@sbcode even if you or purchase both the plug and basin from the same supplier you've no way of knowing who manufacturers the items.
If the seal fails then you can have a situation where you run the tap and turn it off, empty the bowl and everything is good. But..., 30 seconds later there is a leak, seemingly from the empty bowl.
What happened was the first seal admitted a little intake into the plug thread housing. The second seal collected the water but holds it until the chamber is full. By that time the plumber has walked away.
This residual drip will eventually ruin the vanity unit carcass and any wooden floor and the ceiling below. It's an embuggerance.
