Really nice review! I have the Makeblock xTool D1 10 watt laser engraver with the optional roller engraving device and 8 leg extensions. I also purchased the Xtool Honeycomb Bed and Comgrow Enclosure, along with the xTool D1. This laser engraver is amazing, and it will engrave and cut (with limitations) a lot of different materials. Makeblock is also releasing a 20 watt laser and power supply upgrade (plug and play) for the Xtool D1 in May of 2022. The xTool D1 laser engraver is easy to assemble and use (with a small learning curve). The proprietary "Laserbox" software is very limited in what it can do, and spending an extra initial $60 (then $30 annually) for the very advanced and useful "Lightburn" software is almost a must. The key to making the xTool D1 work well is setting the tension on all 3 belts correctly and evenly, and also keeping the track rods lubed. Also, the xTool Honeycomb Bed really helps a lot with heat dissipation, so that you don't burn or discolor the material that you are engraving or cutting. A good enclosure (like the Comgrow) with a smoke extraction setup is also very helpful, especially when cutting. The cable management of the xTool D1 could be better, but it is easily remedied with a little creativity. The trick to speeding up engraving times is learning the proper laser speed and intensity to use. Also, setting burn/cut layer priorities , and increasing "whitespace" travel speed in Lightburn really helps a lot to immensely decrease engraving times. Learning to center an engraving on materials also takes a bit of learning, and the red crosshair targeting laser really helps (it is 16mm off of the main blue laser, and the distance can be adjusted for accuracy in Lightburn). However, using the (shift) "fire laser" and "framing" features in Lightburn really help with the centering issue, once you learn to use them. The WiFi works well, but only works with Laserbox for now. However, when using WiFi you still have to physically push the start button on the xTool D1 for safety reasons. I have not used the phone App. option yet, so I cannot speak for how well it works. I highly recommend the xTool D1 if you are getting into laser engraving, and are not ready to shell out the money for an expensive CO2 laser quite yet. However, just remember that this is a very real "laser," and the UV light is very damaging to your eyes (never look directly at the laser without good eye protection). I highly recommend ditching the included (green) safety glasses and purchasing some professional (amber) laser glasses that are certified to block laser light in the 455nm range. Afterall, you only get one pair of eyes in your lifetime. Also, never burn plastics like PVC, as they will produce deadly Chlorine Gas when heated. Even regular wood smoke can be toxic and irritating, depending on the species of wood. Especially exotic hardwoods like Purpleheart. If anyone has any questions regarding the xTool D1 just let me know, as I have quite a bit of experience with it now, as well as the Lightburn software. I am always willing to help fellow laser users.🙂 PS. The only reason I can think of as to why they call that metal rod an "optical shaft" is that it really hurts if you poke yourself in the eye with it. 🤣
Hello, unfortunately it "will not" engrave aluminum. None of these 455nm laser will engrave metal. You will need to get a 1064nm laser to engrave aluminum.
I have been looking at this laser for a bit now and I must say I will probably go with this one. Light burn basic might be their way of getting people to buy the better software. Thanks for the review
Thank you for the review! I just purchased mine and I’m still learning. Thanks for including the spoil board dimensions! The XTool honeycomb board comes in inches (but shows in mm on the website) and I’m still trying to figure out which I should stick with (in/mm). Wish I paid better attention in grammar school when they wanted us all to learn the metric system. Would have been helpful if the US converted! I’m still trying to figure out how to match the grid in lightburn to the spoil board. Any suggestions? Again, great review.
I have a K40 but its not big enough for some of the projects I have planned so I have been thinking about making a tool change for my MPCNC but cant find any laser half as powerful as the Co2 laser in my K40, I cant easily put the guts of the K40 on the MPCNC as there are mirrors involved and I dont want unprotected laser beams in my shop, I suppose I could enclose the MPCNC which I have also been thinking about, but then I would need open access to the machine for servicing and the changing of the tool head from time to time. It wouldn't be so bad if I could get my hands on a larger diode laser system but as of yet they are still relatively small
I ordered one with the upgraded roller and your discount got me $50.00 off, Thanks! All of the parts will not be here until the end of the month though!
That is awesome! Glad you were able to save some money 💰!I will be getting the RA2 rotary also. I love using mine, hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I do 👍
Awesome! Everyone likes saving money! The bamboo was engrave at 65% Power and 100mm/s. Like any material, I would suggest testing first when you can. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video man, very informative. Looking at purchasing one currently. Would the 10W version be powerful enough to cut through say 6mm plywood and 6mm acrylic?
Greetings! Thanks for watching and commenting! It is tough to say if it will cut through 6mm of plywood on one pass. The reason, not all plywood is the same, nor very consistent. My answer would be, maybe in two passes, since it is an engineered wood. If you are looking to cut clear acrylic, it cannot. It can cut black acrylic at 5mm with one pass at 1% speed 100% power. Otherwise it might need another pass. Remember, the further the laser is from optimal focal length, the weaker it becomes. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Yeah, this may things 😂. My dog Oreo kept on coming in and out of the garage, and must hav re-recorded that about a dozen times due to background noise. I was to that point it will remain a laser mat thing 😂. Thanks bud 👍

It will mark stainless steel. I could feel the ever so slight etch in the container I showed with the Ford Tough logo. If you want to engrave and etch stainless steel, and other metals, you should go with a fiber laser.
Another awesome review! However, I'm surprised that no Peeps were harmed in this review. Speaking of Peeps, a Peep cook temp cutting board would be neat.
Yeah, the Peeps didn't want to come back after the last laser engraving review 😅! A Peeps cook temp cutting board, now that is an idea! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah, imagine how long it took to assemble without editing! I know the assembly and use of big words is not nearly as exciting as racquetball, but I try.

I appreciate you pausing the video while showing the different parts! thanks
Thank you for a complete, understandable overview of the Laser Engraver. Nicely organized and presented.
Hi, this laser engrave aluminium? If yes, is this mark dark black?
Hello, unfortunately it "will not" engrave aluminum. None of these 455nm laser will engrave metal. You will need to get a 1064nm laser to engrave aluminum.
Will the 5watt laser engrave and Cut wood and such materials
Thank you for a detailed video on this product
I can’t find where I can buy the 3D print legs holder for the XTool legs
I have been looking at this laser for a bit now and I must say I will probably go with this one. Light burn basic might be their way of getting people to buy the better software. Thanks for the review
It is one fantastic laser! Yeah the software supplied is lack luster and needs some work. Thanks for watching!

John, I will be 69 in November and use metric all the time, multiples of 10, nothing easier

Will this machine engrave a hockey puck?
Does it cut paper like for wedding invitations?
It can, suggest start with really low power. Just because it can flare up fast.

@@TripodsGarage I just hit abunch of garage sales getting cups painted ss and porcelain. And all sorts of metal things for the rotary fun jig
What is the honeycomb mat you used? Where can I get one?
Link is in the description below 👍
Where did you graphic for the cutting board from?
Found it on Etsy
Can you do mirrors
Yes it can
Brilliant review, thank you. Mine arrives tomorrow
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the D1!
Hi, are you using the lightburn or the program that follows with xtool?
I used LightBurn for most of the engravings. I used the xTool Creative Space for the tumbler and the large bamboo cutting board.
what is the actual laser working area size LxWxH? 🙏
The actual size is approximately 600x590x150mm
I love your reviews. Thorough and honest.
Thanks! I totally appreciate it! Thanks for watching and commenting
Maybe a small drag chain for the cables. Cheap on Amazon.
Your code gave me a 40 bucks discount, thank you for that! and for the review! One question (of many), what where the settings for the bamboo?
Awesome! Everyone likes saving money! The bamboo was engrave at 65% Power and 100mm/s. Like any material, I would suggest testing first when you can. Thanks for watching and commenting!
How thick is your MDF board and what is the size of it?
The MDF is 26in sq by 1/2. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
@@TripodsGarage Thanks for the video. So where did you obtain the MDF? Was it custom cut?
Thanks for not disappointing, John. 👏👏
Thanks bud! Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@TripodsGarage Thank you!
Can it cut clear acrylic?
This can cut black acrylic. Unfortunately it cannot cut clear acrylic. You will want a CO2 laser for that.
xTool has replaced the basic laser box software with their XCS Creativer software, but nothing beats Lightburn!
Awesome work! 👊. Idk what to say I bout a xtool
I have a honeycomb build mat or thing too! 🤪 Good review as usual!

I have one of those honeycomb build mat things being sent to me.
Taco Tuesday 😂😂! Now that is an awesome review 👍. I really like the build quality, and you got some amazing results. Another great review Tripod!
Yes! Taco Tuesday! Of course there will be food that is engraved!
Cleanest burnt tacos ever - what food will be next? I'm sure Bear loves all of his new tags.
Yes! Bear loved the taco shells! He kept on bumping the tripod knowing it was for him 😂. Also Bear does love the new laser engraved tags!

$660. I don’t think so
Plenty of choices out there.
This took way too long to unbox and quit using big words. Just unbox it.
