Congrats on your 100th. After 3 years of riding an FX HO, I’ve put a deposit on the SVHO. I can’t wait to ride a supercharged ski. Thanks for the review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Did you have any issues with your Yamaha jetski FX HO?
@@nicklouallen4784 I had a 2014 FX HO that I LOVED! Perfect ski. I rode solo in lakes, on Lake Michigan, rivers. I tow, ride 3 up. Loved it. However my timing chain broke at 99 hours and blow up my engine - apparently that was a thing with that years’ model (2014). This year I bought a new ‘21 FX SVHO with extended warranty ($800 for 4 extra years). Again, love it. Zero problems - 60 hours this summer. I would absolutely recommend FX HO - they are fast, comfortable, fun, easy to drive, tons of storage. Just don’t buy a 2014.
2023 inbound - Carbon Mint - thanks for the push with this review Kevin.
Me too! Placed my order last week
Nice! Happy to hear it.
Great video and great ski.Waiting to see FX cruiser HO!
VX series are being delivered now.
Great review Kevin as always. So well described and eloquently put. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Kevin, thanks for all your advices! I did buy a new FX Cruiser SVHO 2022 ❤!!!! I am waiting for the end of winter and I will be on water!!
Great to hear!

Keep up the great work sir!!
100 episodes and counting.

Exactly!
Can't wait to get my Limited sometime in November. Great 100th Episode.
Hopefully it arrives then!
Beautiful ski, very nice improvements. Great content Kevin. 100th episode Congrats 🍾 to you guys & gals. Keep it going!

Amazing vid, Watercraft Journal best out there period.

Love mine so far. 8 hours on it, still long way to feel comfortable in it. Wish it came with speaker.
The Limiteds come with sound.
@@watercraftjournal mine the cruiser. Wonder if i can add the factory one? Dont want aftermarket system. (Last option)

100th episodes congratulations 🎊🍾🎉 and FX SVHO for the WIN 🥇 I need this… lol 😝 before I kick the bucket 🪣 I need a Championship in the open water class ASAP
LOL awesome!
Great video! I get all my information from you guys! So many new upgrades each year. Yamaha guys are really innovative. I'm wondering whether to wait for this model or buy the 2021. Easily save 7 grand here in Norway. Mostly worried about some of the earlier "minor" hull issues but then again I would have a dock and only be riding in the Atlantic Ocean under mostly calm conditions.
Happy to help.
Go with the 2022. It's worth it.
Just got my limited! Looking forward to breaking it in! Good info here
Hope you enjoy it!
@@watercraftjournal it's being ceramic coated prior to 1st use...friday will be a great day! (Breaking her in)
Yamaha apparantly hasnt delivered any of the accessories with the ski, so guess I'll be waiting on the access package
80 miles an hour is *REALLY FLYING* on any personal watercraft let alone a jet ski.
It's only under 40 miles from East Coast Florida to Bimini so seeing you do that in under one hour would be quite something indeed.
Not sure what the downside is for working these vehicles in The Salt but obviously never minor.
I've been pretty consistent "the rest of the Industry has some serious work to do" as relates to keeping up with Yamaha but this one really blows me away as to how far ahead they seem from anyone or *ANYTHING* at the moment.
I can't wait for the rest of the Industry to respond!
Great fun to watch.
Great channel.
Look around, everyone is pretty much equal as of 2022.
@@watercraftjournal well, crossing the Gulfstream isn't a pleasure ride. There's an entire JetSki Community in Florida though absolutely. Maybe reference them when taking about "big time in the PWC" is all I'm saying.
More than happy with my 2 stroke Yamaha although the most valuable item is the trailer and of course the engine is *the best trolling motor ever made* which is why I bought it.
80 miles an hour hitting even a piece of flotsam will not make one long for this World.
But, yeah if I gotta move some booze from Bimini to back ... well, obviously I'd use a full hull for that...but from the Mothership with some saddlebags maybe something over the front cowling and inside the frunk...plus "roll on/roll off"
What line of work you in again?

Thanks so much!
Nice but just got a 2021 fx limited so I don't think it's worth trading it in. I was tempted too.
A good dealer will make you a killer trade in for it!
Great Video
Look at how slow the GPS graphics are running on the screen at the 2:33 time mark. A lot of lag. Also notice the white blank areas in the screen as it is trying to draw the map.
Not an accurate representation of the final product. This was a VERY pre-production unit. The Connext system is already well established and highly regarded in the boating world.
You are a sea doo guy…we get it.
@@GP-SVHO one of these days ---> maybe a FP. Until then I'll enjoy my FX's
@@LorenP I ride a 21 GP1800R. I do really like the GP (it is very fast), but I have thought about getting into the new 22’ FX for the fact it will be better riding in chop and more water conditions. We don’t always get glass to ride on.
@@GP-SVHO having one of each would be awesome! A GP to go fast, and an FX for other times. Search for my name in the big FB groups. You will see some of of the GPS mounting parts that I make for Waverunners. Some very nice stuff. I wont tag myself here, because its not my channel.
I hope I can find one this winter/spring
Happy hunting!
Just put a deposit on a 2022 FX SVHO base model. Thanks for the info and looking forward to getting on the water.
Yikes. Did you do ANY research on how long the delay is with these? You likely won't see it for MONTHS.
@@watercraftjournal well the dealer said there were 2 coming in within 30-45 days. I’ll be sure to keep you updated if this holds true or not.

Great content love the show. Nicest ski I’ve ever seen! Why don’t the sell the limited in Canada?
Wow. We didn’t know that Yamaha didn’t!
yeah I don’t get it. Super disappointing.
Hi can this ski still be bought in the us I’m new to the ski industry and want to own one please need advice thank u
Price?
Can you make a video of washing it step by step please
We already have.
mmh I cant decide on this or the Kawasaki 310 lx
2023 in matte black looks good, but concerned about clutch life in chop
For Australian buyers. Yamaha will not be importing the multi mount plate cover for the cup holder as featured on their Australian website. You will need to buy multiple ram mount accessories to make it work if you are looking to add a fishing rod or fishfinder. Or try and buy it from a US dealer and have it shipped to you. Not ideal.
No kidding?! That's first we've heard.
@@watercraftjournal I wish I was. Have been in direct conversations with the manufacturer and dealer and have expressed my disappointment as it was one of the reasons I went with this ski. I have suggested they update their Australian website.

Yamaha 🌊 runner JetSki SVHO Cruiser GP1800 is mostly Jet airplanes 4 strokes engine is 1500 miles per/hours .
Great review. Really nice ski! Next update, rear camera lol.
Coming soon!
Kevin. Great video, much appreciated. I going to purchase the top of the line PWC from Sea Doo, Yamaha, or Kawasaki . QUESTION: I’m 65, 6 feet 2 inches tall, lake ride only and want your opinion on the most comfortable ride from your experience in riding all three.
I’m reading lots of horror stories about new Sea Doos, but rave reviews from the ones that run well. Yamaha seems to have less problems, a better hull, but not quite as "pimped " out as the Sea Doo. The Kawasaki sounds like a beast but maybe better suited for someone younger???
If you HAD to make a choice between these three, what would you chose for me to ride?
Keep up the fantastic work sir.
The compliments are appreciated, but I cannot tell you which ski is best for you. I and my team produce a wealth of information here and at www.watercraftjournal.com for any adult to make an informed decision.
Another fun fact I discovered. The 2022 SVHO trip details like distance travelled ect automatically reset when you turn the engine off. Normally on previous models you would manually reset it. Frustrating as you have to remember to check your trip stats before you turn the ski off and then recommence your trip. Yamaha are aware apparently and looking for a software solution.
That we DIDNT know! How terribly frustrating!
Great review. I have a ‘16 fx svho and am considering upgrading to this. Worth it? Biggest improvements in your opinion would be?
Yes and no. Testing is showing that the new SMC hull is slower but more forgiving. It all depends on how you plan to ride it.
@@watercraftjournal can you clarify what more 'forgiving' means. Thanks
This ski is great but I dnt kno why they didn’t put a dep finder
Those years are gone. Nobody has depth finders.
Hey Kevin, if the SVHO engine is at 290 HP at 7800 RPM's then what's the HP at 9200 RPM's? I have seen it that high on other videos. Thanks.
9,200?! Holy crap. Dude, that's at turbo level builds. You're looking at 450-500HP easy (if not more depending on fuel type, compression/boost, etc.).
@@watercraftjournal Correct me if I'm wrong but this looks like 9200. ua-cam.com/video/fTREs2vaAlw/v-deo.html
I'm not seeing a tachometer speed anywhere on the dash, just MPH. When in the video are you referring?
@@watercraftjournal See the 11 second mark. The tack is the 2 digit reading below the speedometer.
I would love to see a reliability comparison. Which PWC is more reliable and less maintenance than the other. I realize that all machines break. I just want to know which one is easier to maintain, honestly. Everything is exciting at first but gets worn and gets costly to keep up with.
It's honestly impossible to measure - as models are having erratic failures and recalls that totally disrupt any unit of measurement. Sorry that's not the clear cut answer you want, but it's literally an impossible comparison.
Yamaha fx ho naturally aspirated is the most reliable flagship ski that you can buy.
Awesome review.
Glad you enjoyed it
Would you buy the FX Limited or GTX Limited?
See our video on Kevin's Top 5 supercharged PWC picks.
Hi Kevin i want know Who is better gp1800 svho 2022 or fx svho 2022
If you gotta ask, you shouldn't be riding either.
Hi Kevin can u please give ur opinion to this question
Price $ pretty much as the Kawasaki 310 lx. Hopefully they can get production moving again.
Yup they’re getting a little pricey.
The Kwai doesn’t even come near to the luxury
I’m really digging up some interesting finds. To my own detriment. If you buy the rec deck you cannot buy the eye bolts on their own. You have to fork out a bunch of cash for the jet fish premium just to get the eyebolts. Who would have thought! Off to my local metal fabricator to make some.
LOL wow, seriously?
Truly excellent quality videos. I’ve ridden PWC rentals and had an awesome time. Would like my own. I owned a Yamaha Grizzly ATV which was bulletproof. Was leaning toward this PWC you show here. Acquaintance who has owned many different brands said Yamaha in his opinion is behind the technology curve when compared to Can Am and Seadoo which he said are both made by Bombardier. I didn’t ask him to elaborate. Wonder if anyone here agrees and why. TYVM.
Everything Sea-Doo's got Yamaha has too (in some way or form). But frankly, I'd lean FAR HARDER towards how the ski rides in a variety of water conditions over how many bells and whistles they've got.
@@watercraftjournal in that case, which of the top line luxury models rides the smoothest in choppy water, seadoo or Yamaha? TYVM.
Kawasaki.
Does Yamaha try to pick the worst color combos or why does that seem to happen so much with them??
LOL believe it or not they’re almost entirely decided by the customer surveys they email out
Hi Kevin, which ski would you think is better the SVHO limited or Seadoo rxtx 300?
FX SVHO (non-Cruiser)
@@watercraftjournal thanks Kevin 👍
Great video Kevin very well informed. Wish I could join your ride but my Pregnant Fiancé is on bed rest for the rest of the month so I will only be taking the ski out locally. Would have been a great test for my new to me 2016 RXPX 300. Hopefully I can make the mudbug next year as I grew up in Morgan city and would love to ride my ski in the area.
No worries! Congrats on the baby!
@@watercraftjournal thank you very much
Kevin from ride experience would you say kawasaki is still better offshore?
Yes
Kevin, have you heard anything about the quality of the new navigation system on the FX's? I haven't seen an videos of the system in action. I noticed that the maps are provided by a company called Enovation Controls which I have never heard off. I know Navionics makes excellent maps. I'm wondering if the system is as good as like a Lowrance chart plotter or the Garmin chart plotter Yamaha sells as an accessory. Thanks.
Unfortunately, no. I have ZERO experience using Yamaha's production models. What we had access to was a pre-production unit.
I'm looking into getting 2 of these Jetskies as my first Jetskies. I really love the features and reliability of Yamaha, but the price of the skies are pretty high right now and I know production is pretty slow. Which in turn makes the ski prices high. Would it be in my best interest to wait till production returns? (Probably 2-3 years) or go ahead and make an order on 2 of these? If anyone has made an order, how long did it take for you to get your ski? I hate to ask these questions, it seems like with anything that has an engine right now is hard and way more expensive to get into.
Are you paying attention to what the economy is doing right now? Do you REALLY think prices will come down or production will increase? -K
@@watercraftjournal I figured as much. I’ll be making my order soon lol.
Not a mention about its lack of utility; short base, resulting in cumbersome solutions for rack applications.
Because we have never found the FX to be lacking in these categories.
Thank you for this video! I do have a question - on my 2022 FX SVHO LTD - I do see the GPS maps - but for some reason it’s not working. Do I need to call Yamaha to activate it. I have 2 of them. You me for me and one for my wife. Am I missing something? 🤔
The GPS mapping has been a bit of an issue, particularly with those who have the GPS chip/card installed. This may be something to take to your dealer. -K
@@watercraftjournal Thank you for the quick reply... I'm going there today, actually in regard to this issue. Yamaha, also stated something similar. That I would need to take this up with my dealer.
Hey Kevin, quick question: Pinned on glass water, my 2022 FX SVHO will slowly start rocking back and forth (front to back), almost like there a small, rolling waves, but there aren't any. If I turn slightly or trim down it goes away. What is that? I think you have mentioned the rev limiter can cause a similar problem. Thank you.
You're riding at plane, and the hull itself has a very gentle keel. You're not going fast enough to keep it level (also the ride plate needs work).
@@watercraftjournal Thank you Kevin. So it doesn't have anything to do with the rev limiter? It happens at full-throttle on perfectly smooth water. I usually have it trimmed to the second highest setting. That seems to be where I can achieve the highest speeds (67-68 mph).
No, you would feel the engine surging if you were bouncing off of the limiter. Teetering left to right is a hull behavior.
Need help I have a 2020 fx svho and I I was racing with my friend and the paint from the bottom of the ski literally ripped off no dmg to the ski how can this happened to a pretty New ski any help will be appreciated.
Clearly you had damaged the hull previously. Kevin's done SEVERAL videos on this specific issue.
Is it limited or governed like the gp1800 svho to that speed, or is 68.4 mph just as fast as it goes ?
That's the top speed as per the factory settings.
Hi Kevin. New to jet skiing and just taken possession of this ski. I’ve noticed the nose really buries itself even at cruise mode in calm conditions and going down swell/ chop it nose dives. Water up and over the console. It’s trimmed up and I’ve double checked this and I have nothing in the front storage. Is this normal?
YES! Because of the ride plate. You need either the '22 plate or the RIVA plate.
@@watercraftjournal thanks. I would have figured a 2022 Yamaha ski delivered 2 weeks ago would have a 2022 ride plate.
I know the gp 1800 is a race model but would of been nice to have the new upgraded dash with gps
Be patient!
@@watercraftjournal I know its probably coming but got money down on one now. Probably be next year model with my luck haha
How good are the factory speakers?
Good clarity, but the wind noise will drown them once you hit the low 60's.
Hi Kevin. Do I need to grease the jet pump cone on my 2019 Yamaha VXR ? It has about 100 hours on it "fresh water"
It never hurts. If anything, take a look at the grease to make sure its in good condition.
@@watercraftjournal Thanks

Do you know if the Yamaha FX SVHO Limited is going to have (4) pop up cleats or (2)? I've seen (4) as shown on this video and also boating mag's video, and then (2) on some pictures of the limited. Thanks
Not sure. You're going to want to do more homework on that one.
The normal fx cruiser has 2 the limited has 4 not worth the upgrade
Limited only has 2.
Last years limited had 4
Hello love your videos, i have a 2022 yamaha fx cruiser ho, and i was wondering if is possible to had a supercharger on this machine please let me know thanks

Is the difference between this and the cruiser non limited, the accessories , cleats and color? Is that it?

@@watercraftjournal Thanks!!!
I don't believe cleats are included in the 2022 cruiser. Only limited model this year.
Could you do a review on VX cruiser ho?
It hasn't changed since 2021. See that review.
All your talk about how much better the SMC hull will make riding in chop convinced the wife to throw down on a new FX Cruiser SVHO.
Hopefully she doesn't get beat up too badly on the back of mine between when I sell her current machine and the new ride comes in!
Don't blame Kevin if she doesn't like it. :P
@@watercraftjournal My only fear is that I'll wish I had ordered one too!
Hey Kevin, love your content! My limited reached the dealer this week. Another dealer has posted a video of the limited not having the gps mapping pre loaded, but still having to scan a code and order a $200 map usb drive. Also stated they did not receive the accessory kit with the units. I'll find out next week on mine. Anyone you can reach out to to inquire if the limiteds no longer have mapping included in the Limited? :/
This has popped up quite a bit. In taking with dealers, many simply don’t know until they get there. Originally, the mapping was included in the Limited package. This far, the corporate website hasn’t been changed.
I also have the Limited, however my accessories package is not here. It would be nice to know if the GOS card will be included.
The fact that the flagship FX Limited SVHO is not available in Europe is a joke and the only reason I'm going for Seadoo.
It’s physically no different than the FX Cruiser SVHO besides color.
@@watercraftjournal Thank you for the info. Unfortunately the color is the main factor here...

No different than the '21. See that review.
@@watercraftjournal thanks. Just put a deposit on the 2022 FX SVHO. Literally the last and only one left here in Australia until march 2023.
My one criticism is the lack of HP for a Limited very expensive offering, the least HP of the three Brands, Kawasaki with a much smaller Engine is offering 310HP and Seadoo their 300HP edition also with a smaller engine.
Both are cheaper options with all the same wank offerings.
I agree it's a nice looking Ski, but so is the Kawasaki 310, I think Yamaha has made a big mistake as they are gambling on Brand loyalty rather than on specs.
Not so much. The Yamaha remains far more competitive than you give it credit for. On the race course, Yamaha's dominate. The engine is locked from the factory, a very simple reflash opens it right up.
@@watercraftjournal trouble is, who wants to have to spend more money after buying the most expensive Ski, I have a Map Tuner X and do my own tunes on my SHO, I would still have to pay the near $600 for a license if I bought the new 2022, as I would if I Bought the Kawasaki, but I wouldn't need it on the Kawasaki as it has 50+HP as stock, yes Yamaha should do better in the race circuits as it has the largest motor of them all and so will develop more HP with mods, not everyone wants mods as they want the reliability of a Stock ski as well as the warranty of a Stock unmodified Ski.
Once the warranty is over then a lot of us will modify, others with money to burn will just buy a new faster Ski.
Considering the tens thousands of tuning licenses sold a year, quite a few.

Yamaha is awesome than sea duuuuuuuh......
Curious. How so?
Finally Yamaha accepts its weak nano eggshell 2 hull is not fit for purpose on a high performance watercraft, sad about hundreds of customers with cracked broken and delaminated hulls that could not be successfully repaired and rendered useless.
Nano2 is not weak or an eggshell; if it was they wouldn’t continue using it for the decks. The issue was thin paint cracking/spiderwebbing as the hulls would flex in high impact conditions. Current claim numbers show over 90% of “hull failures” were due to operator misuse (beaching, obstacle impact, neglect, etc.). The facts remain that gelcoat over SMC fiberglass continues to be the most durable combination.
@@watercraftjournal I totally and utterly disagree I have been out riding with three different guys with FX SVHO BRAND NEW out of the crate and all three hulls failed with the same front end cracks and delamination within 10 to 12 hours of use hear in the UK solent waters. And the failure rate is far higher on race skis that put more pressure on the hulls. ONLY YAMAHA HULLS have these problems and its been going on for decades so I dont need lectures about these terrible thin weak hulls not fit for purpose and I said the hulls fail not the top deck.
Decades? Nano2 is what, 6 years old? And let's be crystal clear Russ, we're talking to enthusiasts, not racers. You, a Kawi racer, have been RACING in open seas, right? What about Sea-Doo's CM-Tech? Lots of failures there too. What you're seeing is PAINT failures, not the hull. (Both are bad, but it's important to be specific to what is really happening.)
@@watercraftjournal Yes I do agree with you Kevin, all the manufacturers have there strengths and weaknesses the kawasaki has a bullet proof hull but an engine that wears out pistons and rings and valves faster than the other two brands and needs refreshing, but that's the point any engine be made good again but not a nano hull, if its damaged its game over. It would be super awesome if all the best bits of all the three could be made into one ultimate PWC !
@@watercraftjournal Yamaha hulls even the SMC ones BEFORE the amazing nano technology were regularly failing in the offshore competitions around year 2000 yes thats 20 plus years and yes that means decades, they would split down the centreline front to rear of the hull. I have bought ridden and raced since 1991 over 50 seadoo and 12 kawasaki Ultras and never had an external hull failure but I do admit the early GTX 130 spring seat XP 130 2 strokes failed when there inner deck single front engine mounting smashed through the inner deck but was 100 percent repairable and strengthened to be bullet proof after that but still the outer hull did not fail.
Fucking thing rips
Yeah, it's killer.
Why do I have to be poor..
