I was lucky because I have always used keybinds and shortcuts in everything I do. Didn't realise you could bind shift and space bar tho. Really nice.
Dude this has to be the best keybind video for not only swtor but literally for any mmo out there. Dude thanks a lot seriously man, just gotta practice to make it perfect.
Great guide. I've been playing Swtor since 2013 and have never bothered with key binding until fairly recently. Still taking some time to get used to but I've already noticed improvements when doing PVE & PVP :)
Great video. I have been doing most of these things for years (since I started doing MMOs with WoW), but I still learned a few things.
Just one additional thing I will add to the list of recommendations is something that worked for me is to get a Razer Tarterus. In the same way that an MMO mouse with lots of extra buttons helps, this handy device just makes life easier. The keys are spaced better (keyboards are aligned for typing, the Tarterus and similar devices are designed for gaming). The one I have has 19 keys, arranged in a grid (unlike the keyboard's staggered rows) an extra mousewheel which binds separately from your mouse's wheel, a spacebar, a thumb button (which I usually bind to mounts or, in a game like ESO with hotbar swapping, the hotbar swap) and a convenient D-pad which is right next to the spacebar and reachable by my thumb. This is bound to TAB (up on the D-pad), CTRL (left), Shift (down) and Alt (right), for my Tab-targeting and modifiers for the other 19 keys (so I have access to 57 keys, rather than the 19). It's great.
I use the Naga Trinity with the 12 button mouse with my skills 1-12 for dps, shift 1-12 for aoe and mounts, ctrl 1-12 for cc, and shift/ctrl 1-12 for defensives/buffs.
Something i recommend, when You change your combat style, try practicing some rotations with that combat style using training dummies
Now I know why I keep losing 1v1 fights and I have a hard time hitting in pvp. People are just dancing around me while I'm keyboard turning.
Gotta hold down that right mouse button!
@@ragequittinggaming2342 Been playing like that for over 20 years. Might be a challenging adjustment. I'll try tonight. Thanks!
@@thecinematiccrapalliance if you have time. Make a new character and play it with keybinds and mouse turning that’s what I would do
As a total noob (just started SWTOR this week and don't play other MMOs) this video was very useful! I have been fighting using right mouse button click and wondered how to get all those other abilities into the fight! I'm playing Sith Warrior and an heading to Kasas City(?). So where can I find a practice dummy nearby?
There are practice dummies on the imperial fleet. you have to shuttle to the north station though its not on the main fleet. Or if you are in a guild that has the rishi stronghold theres a dummy there too. you can also unlock one on your ship. but if you are completely new you may not be able to yet.
5 button mouse map shift to forward button ctrl to back button. Ctrl+shift I use for shadow cc/sage force quake, sage supper bubble, rest, and other non combat abilities such as QT and fleet. Works really good for me and never use the 5 key.
Amazing! Top 1 content
Awesome guide. It's like 2 different games with keybinds. The only thing I struggled with was changing the "S" key -I'm constantly jumping backwards to get quick distance while facing the enemy (important when using short-range blasters). Also: I must have a really weird claw grip b/c I use my thumb, little & ring fingers to move my mouse, the fingers I don't use are index and middle -yet every mouse I see has buttons around the thumb? how are you supposed to control the mouse while letting go with your thumb?!
People dont have hands of a toddler lol our entire rest of our hand resting on the mouse moves the moves whenever thumb isn’t pressing the button that it’s resting on. Which btw if the thumb is resting on the button then the thumb is helping move the mouse (in theory)
Hi, great vid. How to move and turn the training dummy ON/OFF?
Maybe a slight change to the intro for people with epilepsy? just a heads up since I nearly had a seizure. Thx for the guide tho!
Thank you so much ragequitting
I got you!
Hi man, I just realized the developers didn't realize about tacticals when they updated this game, lol. I have a sith warrior who is a lightening sorcerer but he can't qualify for lightening sorc tactical because he is a sith warrior and not an inquisitor. I also got a sith inquisitor playing as a concentration sentinel...any advice on tacticals?
cant you just switch your combat style and talk to the vendor? make sure you click the dropdown menu it has more options for tactical purchases
@@ragequittinggaming2342 I see there are general tacticals but I would miss the ones tailored for the specific classes. Guess I have no choice but to put overwhelming offense on both lol. They have both gone too deep with their stories and equipment for me to change the discipline now.
@@petercalhoun5837 the 2nd dropdown menu. you can show "all" and be able to see all the tacticals. You cannot buy class specific tacticals unless you are currently ON that class
@@ragequittinggaming2342 wait so can I buy a tactical from my other sith warrior who is a jugg and put it on my sith inquisitor who is a concentration sentinel via legacy bank?

i love this guides! It show's everything you need to know, and how to do it. I watched the last key binding guide and that's how i started to, i was a mouse clicker until then! so thanks a lot rage!! Love your videos as always!!
"There are three ways to become good at anything: practice, practice and practice"
a wise man, probably
Very nice guide indeed :D Something to add thats useful to me; with abilities like force storm, depending on the situation I will double tap the button to auto cast it on the target without having to aim with the mouse. Really handy with healing aoe abilities, Ive found.
I have a Redragon M9089 which looks exactly the same as the corsair one apparently
ANyway to reverse that mouse button? i.e. have it held down by default so you don't have to hold it down yourself 100% of the time?
Honorable mention is Acquire Target of Target, easy to focus fire on a a target. But I've been having trouble rebinding that, it seems that no matter what I bind it to, only th edefault ALT + T works :(
I may not know how to fix the dishwasher, but at least I know how to strafe jump against enemies to free my index finger from the 'd' key for half a second.
But for real, great video man 👍
Man using S as a keybind instead of backpeddle and Shift W, A, D is a massive QOL change that i can't live without.
For strong and long cooldowns, I've been using shift/control+mouse wheel, giving me 4 binds for stuff like my CC breaker, Saber Ward, Mara's Undying Rage, etc before 7.0.
Now with less abilities, I've been thinking of switching the mousewheel for Tab and using the mousewheel for targeting: shift+MW Up for next enemy, shift+down for previous so I don't have to cycle if I pass it, and same for allies with Ctrl. I've never tried this kind of targeting but I just thought of it.
Is there anything you do special for keybinding targets? Right now, all I have is shift+tab to target next ally
"does not respect gcd" is called exploitation , quite frankly swtor shourl remove this part of keybinding to end this exploit, now into this tactic, you simply have no skills if you use key bind in a game meant to "click".and why is this? simply because swtor dont want you to feal like you need to take typing classes to keybind, yup , its more about how many words u can type in a minute, many does not have this ability...as far as exploiting "movmnt" is ok, but ignoring the gcd is not good and shows your inability to click at the same rate on your rotations, clickers can hit their rotation alone just as fast.
Wow. You seem annoying.
Who ever uses that key to strafe should reconsider their life decisions setting it as default. Strafe keys should auto be A and D as default.
I am comfortable moving with mouse. I pres w a d but mostly mouse.
I have a Founder tag and just now about to switch from keyboard turning. I'm trying not to use my Razer Nostrom because it's an added keyboad for no reason
It’s never too late!
Idk what happened but my regular attack stopped working and I don’t know which key bind it is to check it someone pls help lol… I’m new to pc
open your skills menu and put your skills back on your bar. or hit escape, preferences, keybindings and check your binds.
Hey like the UI can u make a link so that ppl can maybe copy it off u
I wish I can toggle the right mouse button so I dont need to hold it down as I turn.
I do not understand. There are not any Pro SWTOR gamers, so what are you talking about?
Lol
this was great! but how did you change your quickbars to look like that? need that explained in a video
Open the interface editor and play around with it there.
What are your thoughts on full mouse movement? IE: left click+right click for forward movement and forward/back mouse buttons for strafe. I've always used this type of movement to open up the entire keyboard for keybinds.
mouse buttons to strafe thats actually pretty crazy (creative) I never thought of that. Whatever works for you man! I like it.
Binding is the best thing I ever did to give me a huge advantage when gaming. noticed your 12 button mouse but nothing looks to be bound. I have one and I bind 1- = (top row), + shft 1 through = , alt 1 - = , ctrl 1 - =. gives me 48. My question is this ... better to bind board or mouse? personal preference?
I use LMB+RMB to move foward to help with hitting certain keybinds while moveing/circle straifing .... and a lot a time ill spam s while doing that just to help with positioning...
Liking this video so far - I use : 12,3,4,F,Q,E,R,Z,X,C, MIDDLE MOUSE. Then i use all those with shift+alt+ctrl modifiers.... then i also use f1-f4 and tilla key and V and T
I try to put similiar abilities on the same modifiers... so my movment abilities are F or SHIFT f or ctrl f or alt f... and my stuns are 4's and my hots or dots is 3's... My long CD buffs are usually ctrl 1-4's... my longer dmg ability cd's are usually shift modifiers....
You GOT to set up a focus target and assist focus target button too for group pvp.... raiding pve too.
This is very helpful to me,I don't have any keybinds but am trying to keep them for force Speed, recklessness, polarity shift, electroshock, overload
Keep going! you can put them all on there haha I believe in you! Just takes practice
@@ragequittinggaming2342 ye
Hey Ragequitting been watching your guides since your immortal jugg guide back in KotFE I think it was and appreciate all that you do for your fans. I'm just now getting back into the game so having all your rotation guides and your streams to watch make getting back into things easier. I keep my binds pretty simple. 1-12 for my top row which is main rotation or often used short cd skills. Shift 1-12 for my second row which is all my other non defensive skills and control 1-12 for my defensive. I use a razer Naga so it helps a lot :)
I use my naga for these reasons: Strafe with the scroll wheel tilting it left and right which leaves me with 1,2,3,4,5, q,w,e,r,t these combos with shift and ctrl as well and I have ctrl bound to the naga. Also have F7,F8,F9,F10 bound to the naga. With these binds i can be swift with all defensives and attacks in PVP, whilst not focusing on my binds rather focusing on the players and the surroundings. Master your keybinds then master your surroundings I'd say. Good luck 😊
I have never used the number keys and probably never will. I keybind everything in the same spot over every class. Maybe it's not the most efficient but it's certainly the best I know with my muscle memory and I do just fine.
I do no cost or generators on Q,sQ,aQ and spenders on E,sE,aE and AOE on R,sR,aR
Rocket boost and mount are sSpace,aSpace and movement abilities and cc breaks on Mb1 and 2 with shift and alt modifiers.
Defensive cds and offensive are on x,c,v,b with modifiers.
I hate the number keys lol
how do you get the timers on the abilities >> is there 3rd party addons?
Preferences. Interface. Scroll down until you see cooldown settings
oh man this video is a big deal for me because im always changing my skills/keybindings around or thinking about changing them. i play with a 12 button razor mouse. It helps so i dont have to move my left hand around too much when playing, it can just focus on movement and i use alt+ numbers for my 2nd row of skills.
for my first row i always have a rotation setup, because i can't seem to remember it on my own. usually my stuns and defense skills are split between being on the 2nd row and being on single keys like Q, W, E, R, S, F, G, Z, X, C. what ive noticed is those single letter keys cause me to hesitate in pvp because i have to look at the screen to see which skill is on that keybind and then i have to look down at my keyboard to find it and press it.
so i always end up not using skills like saber reflect, saber ward, etc and/or i use them at the wrong time. so now i feel like making a new loadout and move things around to test whats more comfortable for me because i really dont feel comfortable using my mouse pointer to click on skills.
Decent guide. Adding shift imputs will help forsure, but im not that invested in the game where timing is everything. I came from kotor just to see first hand the fate of revan. Im sure youve helped a lot of pvpers tho so keep up the good work
nice guide
i myself think that using esdf for movement is better than wasd or qwes. Why? because you gain 1 column of keys that your pinky can very comfortably use, that is qaz. You can also use caps lock for things like voice communication and tab for any things like scoring tables etc. You can still hit ` and ctrl (with side of your hand) for even extra buttons.
In this esdf movement scheme you use alt instead of shift with your thumb. Its even nicer than using pinky. You cant really use alt+space but you can still use shift+space if you like that one.
I wouldnt put anything on shift/alt+movement keys because you will hit these when you dont want to.
You should aim to hit all your instant cast abilities while on the move, you can hit even some alt+ buttons this way and you really dont want to hit your alt+esdf so dont bind there.
using mouse with left hand ? this is sacriledge
The image from the camera s just reversed lmfao
first thing i did when learning to keybind in WoW was watching reckful and sodapoppin. It feels weird at first. But after like 2 days you'll know what you're doing, and the skill is worth it if you play other mmos like WoW.
Some other good keybinds i use often is shift+scroll up and Shift+scroll down for shapeshifting on a druid, or stealth, and sap. Most of my Offensive CDs are Shift 1,2,3 . Defensives are ctrl 1 2 3. AoE heals or dmg are shift +F, E, R. thengap closers usually tilde ` . or Q for holo traverse/phantom stride, F for force speed/roll. Interrupt is always bound to my mouse. Its good to keep things the same for every class/spec to build that muscle memory.
Legendary - thanks
You didn't say anything about autotarget etc. keybinds. Other than that, fantastic vid as always!! Thank you!!!
Razer naga Trinity best mouse for MMO in my opinion. My main attacks are right there 1-12 on my mouse
Very new, but how did you get your interface to look the way it’s set up in this video?
Interface Editor. You can custom everything from in-game. Click the + sign on your action bar 1 or hit escape and go to interface editor.
@@ragequittinggaming2342 I meant to comment again. I followed your video on customizing UI and it was super helpful, but thank you!
you the man
cool, thanks a lot!
You could also use G and F. I put short cooldowns on G. I think shift + G is a good combination for defensive cooldown.
Great video

Thanks man. Very useful. Im going to try out these keybinds today.
This is a nice video but he seems left handed af
The camera is flipped
Great stuff! Thanks! I personally switched from keyboard turning a couple weeks ago and it is not wearing me out as much, and feeling more natural. I still have brain fart moments especially when I am trying to do anything tedious, because I am both undoing muscle memory as it has been a decade of wasd, though I think that I already turned a good bit with mouse. I fly a lot of planes and drove tanks a lot so w and s just front and back. I am in my 5th week of swtor gameplay and I have been working hard on the keybindings thing, even had a fairly controversial post asking people to rate by bind setup on reddit. I learned a lot through that. Though I still don't see a reason to do the alt or shift combos, I been putting my buffs, slows, leaches, on the wasdqe and then skills 1-7, r-y, f-h, z-v and that pretty much has me covered, except I have mount at f1, map at f2, crew skills f3, char sheet f4, rocket boost f5, items f6, and other main utilities up there.
I do want an mmo mouse though I did just buy this g502, been trying to use those 7 buttons and I don't know why but i think I avoid it if I have an easier option ilke a keyboard press. Who knows though in time and forcing myself to by removing easier options. Which is how I got off the wasd. lol
I haven't played SWTOR since November 2021 and when I did play SWTOR it was only PvE and I always followed your spec guides but I wonder what you would have categorized a player as using an "MMO computer mouse" with 12 side buttons and uses the keyboard keys 1 to 5, Q, E, R, T, Z with both SHIFT, Left ALT and CRTL modifications.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Problem is i have to look down at the keyboard to know what im clicking. I dont know where the letters are without looking lol. But I should be doing something right because i can outdps and heal about 90-95% of other players in any profession. I see them jumping around me and they still die, which might piss them off or make them think i'm running a program in the background because they cannot conceive a clicker can beat them not just once but multiple times over and over again.
Not knowing where the keys are just comes down to practicing it. just like typing. If clicking works for you there's no need to change it. Its not like SWTOR has professional tournaments or anything. its very casual so who cares. If you been clicking for a long time and can do it well then this video isn't really aimed at you. kind of like the saying "cant teach an old dog new tricks". This video is more so for new players so they can learn to keybind in the early stages of playing the game.

@@ragequittinggaming2342 No problem man, I come to you for advice I recommend you my man. Keep fighting the good fight!
awesomeness!!
Something you might note when you are going over the pro's and cons of using "W, A, & D" over "Q, W, & E" for basic movement is that your pinky is already resting on the left Shift key if your ring, middle, and index fingers are resting on "W, A, & D"; this makes using "Shift + a Hotkey" a LOT easier.
If you prefer "Q, W, & E" for left strafe, forward, and right strafe, your pinky rests on the Caps Lock key instead, and you will need to contort your hand to lower your left pinky and hold down Shift. You could twist your whole hand counterclockwise so that your pinky now rests on the Shift key, but our arms and hands come in at an angle, to a point on a keyboard, and this sort of twisting is counter-intuitive to our anatomy at rest.
When I try to use "Q, W, & E" and lower my pinky to reach Shift, I completely lose track of what keys my other fingers are now hovering over; and I tend to freak out and hit the wrong keys.
Maybe it's just me, but FYI.
EDIT: Also, EXCELLENT guide, sir. I completely re-arranged my hotkeys after this video. You've been a huge help. Thank you.
Quality guide as always, thanks !
