Even as a subscriber, your first toon should just be all gathering. $$$ for your legacy. I started with Bio, Slicing, Scavenging. I was rolling in money by end game.
Worth mentioning that Synthweaving and Armormech make armor and armorings. Cybertech creates mods and enhancements. Armstech creates weapons and barrels.
Exactly. I encourage Cybertech for new players because mods and enhancements can go into most of your gear and weapons if they are adaptive. And getting a full set of adaptive is pretty cheap. Bingo, most of your gear just needs some upgrading every X number of levels instead of replacement.
if you sub, I highly recommend you get the following mix of skills with your different characters (assuming all Jedi or Sith specs). Keep in mind they have to all be on the same server to share items. Start a character, level them to lvl 10. Pick up the green gathering skills bio-analysis scavenging and archeology, you could even do two with those skills, but one will do to start. You'll see why in a moment: Next train two characters in Cybertech with skills slicing, and underworld trading (your first character(s) have the gathering skill scavenging to complete your cybertechs, get one Artifice with slicing and treasure hunting, your gathering characters have the archeology to complete that circle, and train a character in biochem, slicing and diplomacy, your gathering character has the bioanalysis to complete that skill, and lastly get a character in synthweaving with slicing and underworld trading, the gathering character has the archeology to round out that skill. So with your gathering character you want to collect every marked resource, it's not that tedious like you would think, that will give you all the green materials for level one crafting when you do Coruscant or Dromund Kaas. You don't need to harvest slicing resources you only get credits but nothing towards crafting, you have to run missions to get your blue and sometimes purple materials. You need two cybertechs to keep up with the other skills because they make twice as many useable items, grenades, mods, enhancements and earpieces. You can supplement your materials inventory on the Galactic trade network, you won't need any green mats but you might need the blues and purples. With this setup, you will be able to equip all custom armors and weapons and have all blue equipment and if you invest some time and money into the missions, some purple equipment. You have all the bases covered. I equip all my characters as soon as they hit level ten with all blue and purple stuff that I made for them myself, then I proceed to solo the heroic mission on the starting planet, finish that planet's storyline. You can go to the capital planet and solo a couple heroics right off but for soloing the tougher heroics you will need to upgrade your equipment when you level up (I do it when I hit level 18) Once you get this setup going you'll always have blue equips for all your characters from then out (you will probably need some funds so selling some of those equipments can get you the funds you need to buy more materials.
@@bluemageproduction6607 sadly I have zero experience making videos and I haven't been playing lately, but I get paid on the 1st and I can sub and see where things are at and if this advice is still useful lol
I used to make a fortune crafting high level barrels with my Armstech, in the end game it was one of my most valuable skills... Oh, Biochem also added a lot to my bank roll and in itself was very useful especially on my tanks for the reusable packs...
I'm so glad I came across your channel. I've played off an on for years and this really helps getting into crafting which I had no idea i could do now since i'm subbed. Thank you
One thing I want to add is that, if you don't intend to craft, you can still make some bank by selling mats on the GTN. Some materials go for more, so its important to pay attention to the GTN market. With the server merges, the market will go into chaos for a few days, but once it settles, you'll get a good idea what is worth how much.
This is probably going to sound weird, and I don't mean for it too, but I'm really getting into your videos, they're very informational and extremely helpful, but I think the best part is honestly your voice. It's really, really relaxing to just listen to, and I can understand every single word you say because you don't talk crazy fast. It's great. Keep it up.
For a gatherer I do one mission skill, slicing and one of the three you have (arch, bio or scav). And I pair the gathering and mission skill for a craft, so I'd just have to drop slicing and they could take a craft and have the two matched to it. I'm doing extra alts after having all the crafts done. For f2p I recommend slicing if you only get one skill. It's free money and you don't even have to sell anything if you don't want to although the slicing mats do sell if you want to.
One of the tricks for armstech is to check the GTN for schematics for the old customizable weapons, like custom blaster pistol and elegant blaster pistols.
Nice video, thank you. Small addendum for new players: -crafting is a money sink not really worth it generaly -if you're a f2p or preferred, you'll encounter too many paywalls, just pick slicing until you get a sub or some crafting related unlocks on gtn or cartel market to make your life easier -exceptions are biochem (reusables), cyber (grenades), and slicing for money -while leveling, don't plan on crafting your gear (you can, but you level so fast your gear rapidly becomes outdated) -endagme crafting is a lot of work for not the best gear (logical, but had to point this out) -artifice, armormech for fashion, and when they add weapons to the outfit designer, weaponstech -big problem: generaly any old recipe you learnt you will keep in archives, but BW can erase totaly some recipes (biochem reusables have disappeared and came back, for example, crafting droid parts is purely gone cause they're not in game anymore) And a last, more general note for people that don't have a lot of time in game, by the time you have all professions maxed and are crafting the best craftable mods and items, a new crafting tear will appear and you're back to money sink phase.
You can put your gathered materials into the new crafts material inventory (patch 6.0), so they don't take much inventory space. So now you can even have up to 3 gathering skill without fulling your inventory all the time.
Thanks for this. I went Armormech, scav and UT on my smuggler and couldn't work out if I had made the right decision. Now I know as a non force user I can make things for myself and also sell them.
@@WeHaveNoTalentSorry Yeah, it's the Star Wars version of hacking. The skill can get you a decent amount of free credits and, for end game gear, sliced components become essential for crafting so they sell reasonably well.

Super late here, but you can as a f2p player you can choose 1 crafting skill on one character, 1 gathering skill on another and 1 more gathering skill on another character and store all the stuff you collect in your legacy bank. That way you can collect resources with 2 characters and craft with the other character. Just a tip for anyone wanting to craft as a f2p player.
Interesting - so if your planning for some end game content then the following is probably best: Biochem - craft medpacks, stims ,adrenals - can use special reusable's of the above (schematics earned from Ambara flashpoint +biochem 600 to craft + use) -complementary skills: Bio-analysis & diplomacy
A founder of the game but never actually played 😅 finally picked the game up yesterday but didn't know where to start. Really enjoyed the content of this clip 👍
Thing I like about crafting as opposed to other games is that the stuff I make- as long as I keep up in tier- is actually useful and better than what you'd get just questing. I actually want to make the new lightsabers I unlock in artifice and keep leveling that skill as all of them are actually useful even before endgame. When I played WoW, I wound up giving up on my professions as nothing you make has ANY use except for the top tier end-game stuff... Why would I grind for hours making useless crap for a point I may never reach?
I played WoW too, back in the Burning Crusade days... How the time flies. When it comes to SWTOR, I actually have a problem deciding between Artifice and Synthweaving for my Jedi Guardian... I am not sure, which will be more useful. I kinda like the idea of Artificing - crafting lightsabers, crystals, hilts, but Synthweaving can provide more gear in general + armoring mods with stats I need... Damn, I don't know.
@@VesGaming_ I went with Artifice, and personally I think it benefitted me more overall. You're constantly getting new armor, so even if it isn't as good as it COULD be, it is always pretty good. But not everything gives you relics, and crystals are pretty much the only mod every weapon will take (not to mention that they DO buff stats), so I like Artifice more. Though, I haven't actually tried out Synthweaving yet.
@@YourCrazyDolphin Hmm, you probably have a point here. Ok then, I will go with Artifice. Somehow, it sounds more appealing (and interesting in general) to me too - Jedi, making crystals, his own lightsabers, etc. Not a Jedi, who is a tailor.
Still 100%! The only one that might be off is crafting for level 75 - I've got a new crafting video up now. But picking a general skill is still correct :)
It would be great if you can make another video like this because rules, restrictions, and conditions are not the same anymore in 2022 as free players. I know, it's time-consuming, but you are the only one who did it on UA-cam.
Hey! Very little has actually changed. The only difference is that affect this are 1) there is no more referral code 2) f2p/preferred are restricted to 1 million credits instead of 250,000
2019 Updated: You can't be preffered or F2P and use Refer a Friend anymore, SWTOR wants money so they made it Subscriber only (little heads up for y'all)
2020 update: I just did it as a preferred player. It bugged a bit (thought it wasn't working because it told me the referral code had been used already) but I actually got my free 7 days so it's working. I think you most likely encountered one of numerous bugs.
Back in my WoW BC days, I played a Warrior with weaving/cloth armour making. For fashion. One night someone asked if there was a tailor who could craft them some moon cloth Resto Druid set. I did it for them, and to this day I believe that that day alone was worth grinding weaving (on Warrior, of all classes). Edit: patron provided the ingredients, I wouldn't buy anything expensive for a stranger just like that. But I did have the skill level and IRL time.
Low level beginning players should probably go slicing to help with training costs ext ext. even at max level you can get a fair bit of credits per hours via lvl 500 caches on the higher level planets that helps alot with the early gearing stages of late game.
@@spiderboy43 i mean having credits in general, you can buy gear as well as training alt skills, slicing is imo a must when just starting out in SWTOR, just because of the sheer influx of credits you can get with a minimal time investment. (edit) especially when free to play. its opens up a whole new avenue of content.
i mean last time i felt like i had to farm it was probably close to 300k+ uncontested credits in under an hour in some situations. the pay off is actually worth it, the simple routes on somewhat lower level worlds its just free. like almost no one is there because the dailies are BS and theres nothing to be gained.
First toon? Slicing, arch and scavaging. Then, make a toon for each craft. And make sure you have enough toons to have all the crew skills. Mats are shared
As a Perferred and as a sub since I always had 1 of every class on a server I did all 4 crafting skills and 2 Gatherers... makes Crafting ALOT easier.. Especially for the crafting skills that group up on one Gathering Item Like Artiface and synthweaving, take crystals, and Armstech, weaponmech, and cybertech all take metal.. so That may be a formula to help you out too... And gor my gatherers, I do one a side where as the 3rd skill depends on what side they are.. Imperial I use Bio cause Dromund Kaas Has SOO many beasts you can grey out that planet Fast, and Republic I take slicing
free to play tip : .... 1 char crew skill (ie) armortech and another char crew skill (ie) underworld training ...then using the char with underworld trading send them on constant missions while doing dialogs etc , then store them in your legacy storage and when you switch back to your char with the amortech skill you will have the materials you need to craft ... then apply a little dash of ocd and before you know it both crew skills from each char will be progressing quite fast ......hope that helps anyone out there ........ almost forgot ...it seems when you have items in the legacy storage you dont need to go and get them each time ..... you can craft using the materials in the storage even if they are not in your inventory
thanks i find ways to get the most out of things , just soo glad i finally got Swtor to work right , cant wait to subscribe , but first more class stories.... see you all on the DMS - sid taylor / scrufy nerfherder
Your main should be biochem for the reusables. Then your stealth toon should be three gathering skills for ease of mat farming and the remainder should be the ones that can craft your prefered augments.
I agree. if you plan on doing progression Operations then Biochem is a must. I recently switched my main imp and pub to bio for the raids. I am not one that crafts, but it is useful to have armormech or synweaving just to make MK-10s for your augments. If you have a lot of toons like some of us who have no life then I suggest only having 1 of each crafter besides bio. take as many gathering skills on all alts. you should never want to have any mission skill more than on 1 toon. I personally have 1 of each crafter where they have the 3 needed skills (craft, gather, and mission) then I have biochem (craft skill only with alternate gathering skills) on the toons I raid the most with, all my other toons have 3 gathering skills and 1 is always slicing.
This is probably the biggest difference in my "Preferred" status from my "Subscription" status that I notice. (OK, Travel and Medical Drones too) Although I didn't really use them that much - I miss having all three Crew Skills available. And since I have several Toons, I've spread out my Crew Skilling, so that they compliment each other in the Legacy. Eventually, I will produce anything that I want for any of my Toons.
Having all 3 gathering skills for my 7th char named HeavyGrinderASB, I'm gonna to take everything, to craft each possible bonded attachment/assembly component/cell graft to be a monopolist in the market xD
Crafting materials are shared amongst the characters when put in the materials section that you can select along the top of the inventory menu. it should look like a diamond.
I go to fleet at level nine but after picking up the heroics first on planet. I then pick up the bonus crafting quest on fleet then go to the skill vendors. I then go to each skill and decline, you get points if you do; after all that, I decide the skills and train, then finish with the quest bonus. I then use the heroic on fleet to quick travel to the heroic on the planet.
Haha! Armstech used to be really cool, and some of the "special schematics" are still neat, but it's a major bummer that you can't use the cool weapons at endgame.
Armormech ftw... it’s all opinionated of course, but personally, it’s just the most enjoyable to make for other people, especially guildies or new players.
Swtorista I actually didn’t know that biochem was made even more useful with the Umbara update though btw, so thanks for letting people know about that!
Good video. I thought you would pay more attention to mission and gathering skills, because you already did one video about crafting. Those crew skills generate some affection points and can unlock shortcuts in few flashpoints.
I've been living in and loving your channel for the last couple of days. Seriously thank God for you, information is scarce, but your work is a gold mine! Thank you!!
Working on a new Sith Inquisitor and I'm stuck between Artifice and Synthweaving. Not really focused on endgame, especially seeing how I'm not even at Dromund Kaas yet, but those two seem to be the better options from what's presented.
I'm having to re-take/re-learn my crafting skills because I guess game updates since I last played have changed them.. As I've found mats to harvest but don't have a skill to collect the item.
with reguard to arms tech i take exception to your statement about it not able to craft modifyable weapons and high level weaponsmit can make custom-built high level weapons,at lower levels yes your right, but from level 20 up you v\can equip and modify blasters, blaster rifle,custom-built sniper rifle and have been able to for years, also Cybertech can and always have made mods and enchants for weapons which just like other proffessions are great for weapons and armor artiface and sythweaver i think it is can make armour that can go into modifyable armor, you didnt mention any of this

SANOJ 69 For most gathering skills, it amounts to "send your companion on a gathering mission to get the materials you want". However, if you took one of the specific skills swtorista mentioned, you can "loot" the items from "material spots", which swtorista showed. Also, if you took bioanalysis or scavenging, you can look materials from beast and droid corpses.
Just make several accounts as a free to play player. Then you can have everything. Just mail items to yourself. Or ..start one client up on Steam, and client number two up via Origin and trade with yourself. (yes you will then have game installed twice) or use two pc's, or a pc and a laptop etc etc.

@@VesGaming_ Well, your crew does, anyways.
How relevant is this information nowadays for new/returning players?
Thank you!
The only difference is that affect this are 1) there is no more referral code 2) f2p/preferred are restricted to 1 million credits instead of 250,000
@@Swtorista Hi! Oh, OK. Good to know, thank you.
People are missing out if they don't go with biochem, the end game stims and medpacs cost a lot and reusables help with that.
Ikr? Stim is very useful.
2019 Updated: You can't be preffered or F2P and use Refer a Friend anymore, SWTOR wants money so they made it Subscriber only (little heads up for y'all)
Y'all Might, actually I was able to do so when I was/currently am a Preferred player.
2020 update: I just did it as a preferred player. It bugged a bit (thought it wasn't working because it told me the referral code had been used already) but I actually got my free 7 days so it's working. I think you most likely encountered one of numerous bugs.
2023 update, refer a friend code isn't active Anymore to my knowledge
It still works in 2024 you can refer a friend as a preferred atleast worked for me
Back in my WoW BC days, I played a Warrior with weaving/cloth armour making.
Good tip!
Training is free, unless you mean training crew skills, then yeah it helps. Though any easy credits always help.
I am so glad I found you on twitch. You have a great knack for tutorial videos Thank you
hey! cheers! glad you figured out how to get to the tutorial side of things
You're literally awesome and great. Thank you so much for past and present vids.
As a new player I really appreciate these videos!
free to play tip : .... 1 char crew skill (ie) armortech and another char crew skill (ie) underworld training ...then using the char with underworld trading send them on constant missions while doing dialogs etc , then store them in your legacy storage and when you switch back to your char with the amortech skill you will have the materials you need to craft ... then apply a little dash of ocd and before you know it both crew skills from each char will be progressing quite fast ......hope that helps anyone out there ........
almost forgot ...it seems when you have items in the legacy storage you dont need to go and get them each time ..... you can craft using the materials in the storage even if they are not in your inventory
good tips Stitch!
thanks i find ways to get the most out of things , just soo glad i finally got Swtor to work right , cant wait to subscribe , but first more class stories.... see you all on the DMS - sid taylor / scrufy nerfherder
Swtorista you were right that was exactly what i was looking for in a crafting video! thank you!
cheers!
Awesome as usual, my lady. Thank you again for all your efforts and your friendship.
Biochem is so worth it now with the re added re usable stems.
It's very neat, biochem is my least favourite skill because it can't make "pretty" stuff, but it's by far the most unique and most handy.
It's a good skill for PvE when you need to help out the healers and I guess PvP, not that I PvP as it's very "toxic", especially on EH.
Hey Swtorista i know its a while ago you made these vids, but still i want to thank you, they are very usefull.
cheers!! :)
Having all 3 gathering skills for my 7th char named HeavyGrinderASB, I'm gonna to take everything, to craft each possible bonded attachment/assembly component/cell graft to be a monopolist in the market xD
Crafting materials are shared amongst the characters when put in the materials section that you can select along the top of the inventory menu. it should look like a diamond.
yeah! awesome update. this is a very old video.
I can’t play a game without feeling and looking badass, so I’m definitely going for the armor crafting skills
Some cool armors are affordable on the GTN.
I always suggest taking slicing if you are new and not that bothered about crafting. Free money!
good tip!
i just picked up armstech. :x this vid changed my mind to choosing biochem.
Yes! Being able to craft stuff for other people in general is really cool.
Thank you!!
I remember doing the Datacron hunts,. it was a fun way to travel the universe.
Thanks for this its a big big help
this was really useful
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
If you do PvP the best is cybertech, so you have an extra mass cc, which is quite crucial.
Really good work and a other really useful video
Thanks William, glad you liked it!
Her voice is so soothing... almost fell asleep listening to the video
finnaly the academy !!!!!!we love ya lady red !!😂😂
It's been a while :P
Working on a new Sith Inquisitor and I'm stuck between Artifice and Synthweaving. Not really focused on endgame, especially seeing how I'm not even at Dromund Kaas yet, but those two seem to be the better options from what's presented.
Yeah both sounds good for an inquisitor :) To me artifice has some REALLY COOL inquisitor armors ua-cam.com/video/bEJSN0P55Y4/v-deo.html
add another character to do one of the skills and the other with your inquisitor
I always preferred Biochem
I just want 2 things
1. Crystal's for weapons like lightsaber or guns
2. Dye colors
Thanks for this! Always look forward to more Academy!
Seems like the free to play and preferred status have improved since then
It actually haven't changed much, we've just gotten better at figuring out workarounds :D
I had four character slots as free to play, and in the video you mentioned there were only two.
Ah-hah! Yes they did get upgraded! :D
Witchcrafting skill?
Sign me up.
Biochem = Alchemy
Cyber tech = Engineering
There is a right answer biochem stims adrenals medpac and the reusables (only usable by biochem) theres implants too
"Foci" XD Great video, very informative as usual!
I'm having to re-take/re-learn my crafting skills because I guess game updates since I last played have changed them.. As I've found mats to harvest but don't have a skill to collect the item.
This channel is so so so good
I didn't know bio Chem could be so useful
with reguard to arms tech i take exception to your statement about it not able to craft modifyable weapons and high level weaponsmit can make custom-built high level weapons,at lower levels yes your right, but from level 20 up you v\can equip and modify blasters, blaster rifle,custom-built sniper rifle and have been able to for years, also Cybertech can and always have made mods and enchants for weapons which just like other proffessions are great for weapons and armor artiface and sythweaver i think it is can make armour that can go into modifyable armor, you didnt mention any of this
Great video glad I found your vids as I am about to return after a long time thanks for the videos! Ps.which is you favorite companion and/or class would you say has the best thanks
Hi Fluffy welcome back to the game! I don't think I have a favorite companion... my fave class is Trooper Vanguard. If you need some advice about classes I made this video ua-cam.com/video/Z8tk3bZpGew/v-deo.html
I'm in Elder player but I'm just returning after a couple yr absence and I'd like to have my memory refreshed on which crafting skill is best for creating augments
It depends what type of augments you want to make: www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/77bhji/does_anyone_know_of_any_guides_for_who_can_craft/dokjyu7/
Swtorista thank you for the swift reply as usual.. I really like that you seem to engage with your community... Always a good thing... I'm looking specifically for the type of augments you would put in your armor your relics and your implants or earpieces Etc
I've always preferred to Source my questions and Curiosities etcetera to the community rather than Google... The reason being is this really tends to help Foster a greater sense of community Etc within the player base( minus the trolls of course LOL)
I love me some google, but sometimes google can't answer those simple questions without wading through pages of info :) You might like this too, it's a huge guide of guides that I put together by many members of the community www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=947159
Good info, thanks.
Great video very helpful. :)
Thanks Ben!
God I love the sound of her voice. It's so soothing and beautiful. I swear I could listen to her voice for hours and hours. It pairs wonderfully the well constructed visuals and content.
Love the Nexu mount! Was captivated by it in the movie, and heartbroken when it died. Did you know that Rimworld now has an awesome set of Star Wars mods and scenarios? At higher levels, the Jedi are just crushing other enemies! 👍💪💖️🎖️
Thank you very much. Great info
This video helped me so much!
+Jessica Lindstrom glad it did! :)
Thank you so much :) I might do the armor stuff.
I play WoW and primarily focus on goldmaking and the ingame economy, are there any guides or content creators for that part of the game in SWOTR?
SWTOR TV is a cool youtube channel for that. I have an easy head start to making basic money here ua-cam.com/video/2l3TK4PhKLs/v-deo.html I don't know if anyone covers any more indepth stuff recently (
This video is soo helpful, I've played SWTOR for almost 2-3 years and I never knew you could do all this stuff 😂😂🤣🤣
The problem I'm phasing is that I don't know how to gather stuff, I choose the armormech because I'm playing on a republic soldier 😔😔
Assassin's Den thx for the help, and I choose slicing as a crew skill 👍🏿👍🏿
Woo, thanks!
...and thanks for all your videos
Very useful thank you!
How much do I have to pay for a subscription
Biochem/diplomacy/bioanalysis that's the easiest way to make republic creds
Great tip, it's a good combo :D
I have synthweaving artificing and underworld trading
This helps a whole lot
This could really use an updated video
Just make several accounts as a free to play player. Then you can have everything. Just mail items to yourself. Or ..start one client up on Steam, and client number two up via Origin and trade with yourself. (yes you will then have game installed twice) or use two pc's, or a pc and a laptop etc etc.
Can't mail or trade as a pure free to play :P
THANKS SWTORISTA. AWESOME VIDEO AND I LEARNED A LOT. IF I WANTED TO MAKE A CYBERTECH ARMOR FOR MY CYBORG SMUGGLER. WOULD I BE USING THE ARMORMECH SKILL TO MAKE THIS KIND OF ARMOR? THANKS.
