    For people not used to US (like me!) up the block is probably 1500 meters walking along an avenue so large it's a like a high speed road with almost no trees at all or any kind of shade. Then you have to walk another 300 meters thru the parking lot 😂

    • @goldengryphon
      @goldengryphon Місяць тому +2

      Sounds about right.
      City blocks are 4/mile, and large grocery stores will easily take up a couple of blocks' worth of space with parking and the store itself. "Right up the block" usually means in visual range and a couple of blocks away, so that's reasonably a .5km - 2.5 km hike without shade in 90+F and 60+ humidity.

      The 70s were cooler than the 80s. The 90s were cooler than now. Things change, slowly, over time. I live in Aust, southern regions, where the summers are hot, but dry.
    That brings its own issues, the sweat evaporates almost as fast as you produce it, the salt in the sweat doesnt evaporate, but concentrates till the sweat turns into a super saturated salty acid ... with salt crystals. So when you move, you skin is simultaneously cut and then have salt enter the cuts. Affect larger people more, as more skin to skin rubbing.

    When I was a teenager, I would spend summers in Florida with family that lives down there, I'm from up north. Anyways, That heat was something, but I didn't think it was that bad. The sun though would cook the flesh off of me! If I were outside for more than 15 minutes, I would burn. If I spent 30 minutes out, I would get 2nd degree burns, huge blisters! I would have to lather up on the sunscreen just to go to the store!

      That’s because the sun’s rays are more direct than up north. I got sunburn on the tops of my feet first time I went to Virginia Beach. I never had my feet get sunburned before.

    Not me living in Italy and knowing the city where I live is about the same humidity and temperature (about 35 to 40 Celsius in the summer for at least 2 months) and working by bike in this weather... Yeah, I'm dying the entire time, but I'm not taking a car for a block (although, I know I. The US there are no sidewalks, so I would reconsider walking with that in mind 😅)

    Where I live (in Australia), that is a very common temperature - in summer we regularly get to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) and above. We would very regularly have to walk home from the train station or bus stop and just deal with it (not nice, though).

    I was born n raised in Miami... heat was no joke but at least there was a slight breeze coming off the oceans... I live in the Midwest now n the humidity is ridiculous... heat be in the 90s but feel like it's in the hundreds n when its in the triple digits it always feels 10-20° hotter... the humidity is like a thick ass wall... I would gladly take FL heat over Midwest heat... 🥵🥵🥵😭😭😭

    Please add content for usage for maintenance while in braids and Locs. I'm loc'd and some of these products need modifications for usage. Plus i live in a dry hard water state. Glycerin Will dry out your hair since there is no moisture in the air (at least that what a hair chemist said) So we need you expertise too. Thank you I've been share you with all my friends❤❤

    I was born in Florida, but grew up in the Piedmont (Central NC). It’s the same insanity. At least with FL the humidity made sense, because the state’s surrounded by water. One good earthquake and it’ll become an island. North Carolina is an enigma because I don’t know WHERE that moisture comes from! It’s 200+ miles to the ocean at the CLOSEST point. That southern heat is no joke! It’s migrating further north too, because I now live in Ohio and damn-near can’t breathe outside anymore.

    Imagine being at the motor pool in August of the year 2000... In the state of Georgia and the heat index is 98°F and humidity is at 70%... Formation is at 1700 and bam it rains for 5 minutes. Now you have 99°F and 99%. The sun comes out again hotter than before and as you stand at attention people start to fall out ..... Good times.

    In the southwest states heat isn't the issue. We just accept it's hot outside. Now humidity? That is another story. People act like moderate humidity and it being 80+ is death sentence for them.

    Umh, more car - o - centric attitude is needed this day. But maybe for people from US is really something wild and impossible to move without car even for short distances. And I am writing it from Poland, where the temperature was 33-36C yesterday and I was biking (not because I love to sweat, but because I had to transport myself and when you are in move it's not bad, and if you aren't, just find some shadow to rest or go to building)
