When I decided to build and customize an IKEA cabinet into a full functioning greenhouse, I had 2 very specific goals: AESTHETICS + FUNCTION.
It was important to me to be completely transparent in the process, so I document and am sharing it all with you. The good, the bad, and the frustrating.
The cabinet needed to look good but actually provide and hold the right environment for my plants.
AESTHETICS- I spent a lot of time researching and trial + error adding accessories to the greenhouse so it would look seamless. Everything I added and where I added it was with aesthetics in mind (where cords would be hidden).
FUNCTION- proper weather stripping and prioritizing light were my focus here. I added several more lights than I’ve seen in other cabinets and am getting about 900FC in any given areas inside the cabinet (most I’ve seen get 400FC with the same lights).
Not mentioned in the video but worth noting:
≫the Soltech grove lights were too wide to mount vertically so I went with barrina t5 1FT strip lights instead
≫the power strip does not offer smart features on the USB receivers (fans are running 24/7 which is fine with me)
≫Modern Aqua kit(s) can be completely customizable, you can get one piece, all of them or completely different ones that are specifically designed to fit the cabinet.

This is the best greenhouse cabinet build video I’ve seen, and believe me, I’ve looked! When I was putting together my cabinet a year ago I scoured UA-cam for a video that showed the details of how to do it and I couldn’t find one. I love how you showed every step and how you were transparent about what worked and what didn’t. Great job!

Thank you so much!! You’ve made my day 🥹. I too researched a lot and felt there was so much I still didn’t know. My intention with this video was to just be as transparent and real as possible.

I used the Neodymium magnets (super strong) and used epoxy or super glue gel to attach them to whatever I needed. They do not BUDGE at all.

What color Barrina lights did you go with? I love the whole look and how true you were to how things worked and didn’t work💚

Looks amazing! Curious if the vertical lights would produce enough light to skip the horizontal ones? Also since the cabinet is in front of that lovely bright window the plants may still try to face towards the window? If I create my own greenhouse cabinet it won't be in such a bright location so ALL the lights will be needed😂

precisely because it's in front of a glass door I thought it so important to have vertical light. I think you can get away with vertical light only but growth may be slower as they aren't that strong.

I always laugh at the notion that ikea furniture is hard to build 😅
Is this an American experience? Because in my country in europe it's famous for being easy to build

Maybe it’s the directions or all the tiny pieces that make it “challenging”? 😂

@@iamclaudiaq yeah I just got to the point where you said you don't like instructions so I'm guessing most Ikea furniture would be annoying 😉👍

Yes, I think it's an American experience, and I'm saying this as an American! I cannot imagine how IKEA instructions could be any MORE clear, yet I find my compatriots cannot handle them. I make a LOT of money assembling IKEA products for other people. Am I the fastest? No. But I get whatever it is done, and everything ends up being sturdy, leveled, and nice-looking. I'd like to add, I'm a woman, and I'm surprised to see how many people do not expect women to be naturally good at this...their loss, my gain!
