The craziest thing about Richard Turner is that his being blind seems to have nothing to do with why his card handling is so amazing. His dealing with the volunteers also shuffling and cutting and the crowd randomly asking for cuts and shuffles would make this trick literally impossible for anyone. Being blind is just the cherry on top. I mean....I just don't understand. I can't even. I really just can't right now. I need a drink and a cigarette, and I don't even smoke.

Richard is not a magician neither does he call himself one , Richard is the product of dedication and power of will coupled with a blessing in disguise named blindness causing all of his other senses to sharpen .... I actually genuinely believe that everything he does is PURE skill , no illusions whatsoever, although we use the word magic very liberally and the word became synonymous with optical illusions but what Richard does is REAL MAGIC , if you want to know how skilled he is, watch the fool us episode again and just analyze teller's reaction when he started dealing seconds then observe Penn shoving his face (almost literally) in the cards in order to try to see the second card being dealt as opposed to the first one to no avail ... Richard mastered the craft after years and years of obsessively and compulsively repeating the mechanical action of dealing a lower card until it became as natural as dealing a first.... (he learned everything he knows about his craft the same way)...

How is that even possible? The only way I can explain this is that he uses crimps or marks at all or at least a good amount of the spades cards in some way and is then able to deal them out by center/bottom or second-dealing, depending on the position of the crimped cards. But then, he also passes the deck to shuffle, so a spectator would see the crimps which have to be big enough for him to immediately catch a break under them.I have 2 Richard Turner DVDs and there ist not 1 technique on them in which he crimps or marks a card in any way.

by the cut of the card. he said that when cards are made they cut through a stack at a time. the side the blade enters the stack is smooth and the side the blade exits the stack is slightly pushed outward. on side rolls in smooth over the face of the card (usually the painted face side). simply feeling the edge of the cut he can tell if it is up or down.

    • @stirfryjedi

I believe so, owing to his ability to feel the card placement in any given deck. It's true he prefers fresher cards though. In the documentary Dealt, he shows his 1000's of boxes of cards in storage. "That was a good year" he says of a particular shelf, as if speaking of wine. I saw some older footage of him cutting a deck for a given card placement height; it's a trick where an audience member calls out any number from 1-52, he'll instantly cut it and they count them...just wild. His Wikipedia page says, "The United States Playing Card Company employs his services as a "touch analyst" to evaluate the texture, flexibility and cut of dozens of decks of cards each year."

There is no way that is a gambler's cop. He freely shows his hands clean. You can see through the gaps, and the bottom of his hand doesn't have a card pertruting. You can see into the center of his palm on his bottom hand, for one of the times he hands the deck over. I have no idea how the fuck Mr. Turner does this. I've tried to look for resources on how he could do this, but I haven't found anything.

He's unfortunately partially blind but due to that he had enhanced sense of touch for the number of the card. He then combined that sense of touch with dealing the card from the top middle or bottom depending of the way the needed card being placed after it was shuffled. That's how it was done but i doubt you can learn it unless you had being blind and enhanced sense of touch but anyway wish you the best.
