BaoFeng's UV 25 Pro Max - A Beast with a few cons.

- The BaoFeng UV-25 Pro Max is another new release from BaoFeng. It seems to share the same basic radio hardware as the 5RM HT with similar screen, screen fonts and menus. Also like the 5RM it's signal purity on 2 meters and 1.25 meters is not good.
The UV-25 Pro Max is a big heavy radio that seems designed to fit a fairly specific set of needs. It won't be your everyday carry radio weighing in at over a pound and a quarter.

I like big, heavy handhelds, the UV-25 reminds me of the Motorolas from the old days, great for communications as well as a weapon if needed. 😂
“He hit me with a brick!” …no ma’am. It was a baofeng uv25😂😂😂
Good over view and review as always @Gadget Talk
I bought one of these and I love it. 70cm are the dominant repeaters around me so serendipity baby. As far as radios go, there's always a trade off somewhere. So just do some homework. Like all multiband radios, there's always a sacrifice somewhere. When you ask one antenna to do the job of three bands there's always a loss somewhere. I like the big size and pretty decent battery longevity along with the screen. Yes, I know that there is that tacticool Baofeng AR152. Basically, it's just a UV5R that slipped past quality control and the Johnny Combat look is getting old IMHO. BTW, all versions of the UV25 (Max, L, etc) are all the same radio. It's just marketing.
Hi, I don't understand much English, but it clears my doubts, on the website where I'm looking to buy there are 3 ads, one for the normal uv-25 version says it has 5-10w for 40 dollars, and another ad for the uv-25 L and pro version It says it has 15-25w for 60 dollars. And all the same buy the cheapest uv-25 for 40 dollars? or the versatile L and pro and even higher?
@@CrisBoy410 They are all the same radio. Buy the cheapest. The different names are just marketing.
Outstanding info. On Point. Prepare Daily!!!!
I have purchased two of these Pro Max. I'm going to be happy with this
Just as an FYI, replacement BL-UV25 batteries are listed as 8800 mAh. I found this to be consistent across several sources and, given the size and weight of the battery, I'm inclined to believe this is correct and that sources listing 2800 mAh are a misprint.
I know the reason for this is that the batteries delivered from China cannot exceed 100wh. So in order to smooth shipping, they lowered the label of battery capacity.
This radio Reminds me of a even Bigger version of the 5RM and 5RH and UV-5G Plus radios Just a ton taller and Wider
Thanks!
I recently purchased a TYT TH UV8000D radio for about 60 Euros. It is advertised as a 10w radio with crossband capability. I tested my radio on a dummy load. On 2m the output was spot on, 10w. On 70cm the output was 8,5w. Perfectly acceptable. Of course you can also reduce power to 5w. If you use 10w you may want to consider using an external antenna. 10w so close to the brain may not be a good idea. On another YT video a TYT TH UV8000D was put on a spectrum analyzer. No spurious emissions were detected on into tht Ghz range. I don't own a spectrum analyzer and cannot test my own radio. The radio itself is compact like most other HT's. The radio is not full-duplex, but the crossband feature seems to work okay. All in all, not bad for 60 Euros.
Glad you're liking it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Why is it so expensive? I bought one for 60 including shipping
@@TOM-CCCI've seen these listed from about $25 to over $60. Go figure.
@@GadgetTalk4U Chinese sales are too deceptive. Often misleads consumers with prices, features, and parameters. If I don't see reviews online, it's hard for me to judge.
@GadgetTalk4U - I hope you don't mind but I've linked to your review from mine as you've done the interface stuff far more justice than I ever could :)
can you extend the frequencies?

Actually, I think it's the same.
Using the included USB Cable. installed the driver and is working in device manager. Get this error in CHIRP when trying to "Download from radio": UV-17 or UV-17PRO both give error: "Error Readering data from the radio: Not the amount of data we want."Cable is new and came with the unit. Connection is pushed all the way in. Anyone know how to fix?!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I believe the issue you are having is that the included cable with the normal USB A end and the USB C end is for charging only. You still need a programming cable plugged into the mic and speaker ports (K1 connector). I got the same error with the charging cable. A programming cable came up with a different port in Device Manager and when selected, worked fine with Chirp. I ususally use an FTDI cable. Link here: amzn.to/3RcjDp6
@@GadgetTalk4U thanks for your reply. I am using the usb a cable that connects to the side with the two jack connections. I pressed it in firmly. No connection is made, im ordering another cable. As I suspect this one to be defective. Ill let you know ✌🏻
What's the difference between the
Boufang uv-25
UV-25L
UV-25 pro &
UV-25 pro max
Thanks
One of the mysteries of life is Baofeng naming conventions. I find it's best to do a deep dive on the features and get the one that matches up with my desires.
UV25 L = left handed?
Im considering buying this radio in the 50 watt version, would you recommend this??
The chance of there being an actual 50 watt version, besides in the imagination of some copy editor is zero. Does 50 watts radiating next to your brain sound even remotely safe? To answer your question, no.
@@GadgetTalk4U - very well, I'll settle for the 10 watt, and thanks for your response.
2800 mah isnt that big UV-5G Plus and the 5RH and 5RM all have 2500 mah i woudl espect this max to have more of a 4000 mah battery My small Wouxun KG-UV9GX and My KG-935G plus have 3200 mah batteries and there very small radios
My Anytone AT-D878UVII radio is much smaller, and has a 3100 Mah battery. I do like a larger size radio though. They feel much tougher built, and more substantial in your hand. They also don't look like toys to radio muggles. That lends credibility to the radio.
@@jhutch1470 I agree
Strange! When Knoxieman tested (time 16,20) H it showed 9.7 - 10 watts on the SW-102 meter (Surecom) how can it make so much difference? L 2,6w and M 5,2w Very grateful for answers as I am thinking of buying Baofeng UV-9R Plus or BAOFENG UV25 pro max, Which one seems to be best for prepper and not for daily carry or long hikes. Thanks from Sweden :)
The power output difference is likely due to quality control. I've seen differences between reviewers myself. Also it could be due to what frequency is being used. That sometimes makes a difference, too. As for the radio choice, I like the smaller form factor even if you're not carrying it around.
@@GadgetTalk4U Tack :)
Thanks for the video. Bigger doesn't mean better. It's a basic radio with a super heavy large battery, which should be double the rating for its size. I think I'll never buy one. Thanks for the info and demo.👍
The tip off the antenna really is a weird spot to keep the AA battery.
Kinda looks that way, doesn't it.
so is this an upgrade of the UV-17 Pro ?
No.
Is the pro max fcc approved? I want to buy some for my Family members
Things change so I don't know. A good indicator is that if it isn't sold by a US seller, it may not be. You can also search the FCC database.
I got 5000mh in my phone
WHAT DOES NOT COME CLOSE TO FCC STANDARDS FOR 2 METER…. TOO MUCH/ TOO LITTLE ?
Spurious emissions.
it's look like alpha tango
Change meter
WHY IS THIS CALLED A TRI BAND OR FIVE BAND AND IN THE PRO MAX
3 transmit plus 2 additional receive bands.
why isnt the uv 25 listed on the official baofeng web site. It cant be made by them but a rip off
I've found that Baofeng radios are released to various parts of the world at different times and sometimes only to one area or another. There isn't really an official Baofeng website, but rather several. All don't have the same products. That is especially true in the US, where FCC certification requirements sometimes means radios are delayed and other times means they don't get released to US sellers at all. This is especially true of radios on Ali Express.
Big radio not much more power
Yep.
