HEADS UP! As a Ham, I have many radios! I have the UV5R- UV2 ver- and the Tri-bander! Although the 5R is the most used! I had the software crap out ON ALL 3 RADIOS! The Tri-bander SET to the local 2Meter freq, transmits 440 when pressing the PTT! YEAH! I get these are cheap radios ! I have Kenwoods that are 40 yrs older and work fine! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY! The UV-2 and Tri has less than 2 hours operating time on them! BUY something more dependable FOR THE BUG-OUT BAG !!!!!!!!!! ( until this recent discovery, I recommended these to people ! ) Also, for the other commenter- NO! You cannot transmit ON GMRS freqs with these according to the FCC! I have that license too! PLease get LICENSED since it is much easier today than it was Years Ago! Take the Practice Test @ The FCC ! IT COSTS NOTHING ! Thanks !

I have a Yaesu FT 530 HT that I bought new over 30 years ago and it still works as new. I now have an FT70DR a TIDH8 a TYT 88. Yes the UV5R is a cheap radio. I think for the money the TID H8 is a good radio. Time will tell if it lasts 30 years.
