This song literally saved their careers when a radio DJ here in America played this on a facebook page and the video gained 2 million views. If it wasnt for that their label was gonna disband one of the greatest bands of all time. Thank god events happened as they did and Band-Maid have been "Thrilling" us ever since. They just absolutely killed it at Lollapalooza
"Thrill" was the B-side to first single "Ai to Jonetsu no Matador" but the Maids liked the heavy Rock sound of "Thrill" more & spent their budget on making it their first MV. It went viral & was the best decision B-M ever made. Phew!🤗
Just another Madiac that found what would turn out to be the band that has impressed me more than any other band, except possibly Rush. And Thrill is still to this day one of my very favorite songs ever.
Most of us started right here. I remember the day I first saw and heard this. I was not sure to believe it, I must have watched it 12 or more times in a row and I was hooked from that day on. It has been a great ride and Band-Maid opened up the world of J-Rock and J-Metal for me.
The video that saved BAND-MAID. Miku using that Rickenbacker as a decoration (now sponsored by Zemaitis) and Saiki only a few years before her vocal chord surgery.. No PRS for Kanami yet. A 4 string bass for MISA, and Akane still fairly new to playing double bass. Outside writers writing their songs .They've come so far since then.
Miku Kobato couldn't play a note at the time and only chose the Rickenbacker guitar due to its black and white colors which matched the color scheme of the Band-Maid's outfits she envisioned them wearing. Kanami Tono was taken aback by Miku's rationale for buying that particular guitar but offered to help her to properly play the instrument. Today, Miku has blossomed into a great rhythm guitarist, vocalist and lyricist. Thrill was the initial catalyst that generated today's amazing Band-Maid and is an important part of the band's history. Thanks for playing it and now please do their latest work Shambles which shows how far they have come from their early days. Cheers.
No other band breaks new gate like Band-Maid. Miku wearing her guitar like an amulet here and now she's a superb and precise rhythm guitarist. This is known as the 'Having Kanami as your guitar sensei' effect. That and lots of hard practice, bless her little feathery wings.
Seeing the Maids live and up close in a small, intimate club is a "Thrill" of a lifetime. One should consider themselves lucky to experience them like this because it's becoming rare. And as for sound... it'll be the best hard rockin' sound you can imagine -- clear, discreet, powerful and full of energy and joyful vibes! (And no compression!! ;-) Just ask anyone who's experienced them live. In fact, we've been getting an earful of "wow's" and "that was incredible" from all the reactors and commenters from their successful 2022 & 2023 Band-Maid USA Tours. Rock on, Chris & Sam!
Seeing the Maids close up is becoming a 4yr+ distant but awesome memory for me. I really do get excited for my Maidiac brothers & sisters across the pond cos you've been blessed in 2022 & 2023 & i know how i'd have felt to be at any of the shows. I hope they come back to the UK soon cos i could've died from my heart attack in Jan. The only thing that kept me going was you, Tom, in a dream saying "Don't die yet Gary, i haven't laughed at you enough yet for B-M preferring to play in my country twice in 2 years instead of your crappy island". 🤣
@@GaryHolloway-810 LOL Next time you play tennis with Saiki, maybe you should let her win... like I did. ( Actually, I didn't exactly "let" her win. ☹) But that's when I asked her to play the USA all the time for years. 🎾😂🤘
Correction: Miku isnt "playing" that Rickenbacker at all. If you look closely, youll see she's air guitaring it because it this point in time, she didnt know how to play guitar. (She had recently replaced herself with Saiki as lead singer) Through sherr will and determination (along with lots of practice and teaching from her sensei, Kanami) she"s become an excellent guitarist that can hold her own next to her elite band mates. What an INCREDIBLE Small Pigeon!! So EXCITED! I'm seeing them in about 11 hours!! Thanks again!🤘🤩🤘
The food references and servings come from Miku having worked in a Maid Cafe in Tokyo in 2011/12 and is where she had the idea to form a "cool" (rock) band. Before Akane owned a drum kit she had a cajon and a red snare drum (Tama?), as she used to practice on borrowed kits. Thrill was released on a single in 2014 but Miku only mimed on this video (2015) holding a Rickenbaker but was later taught to play by Kanami. She was picked up by Zamaitis shortly after and now has many models of their guitars.
Taking that Wayback Machine to see where it all started for so many fans. And to catch a glimpse of nostalgic things that have disappeared: Saiki’s classic maid gear, Kanami’s Addictone guitar 🎸, Akane’s tiny hat 🎩 , and MISA’s shoes 👠 😂 Suggestion from me would be to keep digging for the gems from early days. Especially “non-fiction days,” official music video. And help a fellow Floridian out by telling me how Kanami matches Hoobastank “Crawling in the Dark” guitar tone?!
They spent a lot of time playing the clubs in Tokyo and paying their dues. They've come a long way. Look for their set at Lollapalooza, the double-header of *"Dice"* and *"Hate?"* in particular. *"Dice"* starts at 38:55. It's a bass-heavy song and MISA is enjoying herself. They segue into the next song *"Hate?"* at 42:56. Saiki wrote the lyrics to express her feelings about infidelity. It was already a banger before they added an extra bass/drum/guitar section. I _highly_ *_highly_* *_HIGHLY_* recommend it. It's a superb performance.
She's playing a Rickenbacker! (Narrator: no, she isn't playing a Rickenbacker. She is holding one though :) Since then, Miku has become a really solid rhythm guitarist and soon, I hope, she'll be riffing back and forth in a lead guitar battle with Kanami.
Thrill was my 1st vid I seen back in 2019. Was hooked. Have now seen them twice in about a year. When they play the US again I'll be sure to see them again! ♥ I get more of a 70s/80s hard rock vibe
Funny you should mention a time machine for Thrill...during their first online Okyu-Ji when they played Thrill live for the first time in a long time, they used a 'turn back the clock' visual to introduce it. On the official live video for Thrill (taken from that concert) you can hear the clock spinning forward again at the end of the song.
An oldie but goldie, in my opinion. Certainly no comparison with their sound today, but for me this song will always have a special place, because it was THE first song that changed everything for me a few years ago. ✨🕊 _____________________ _"We all may never know what it is to be ourselves"_ - from *Gacharic Spin* -「 Replica 」 🎶✨
I think their Lollapalooza live performance of Hate is now my favorite video. It's still around on You tube along with the entire set, hopefully it makes it's way to Bandmaid's official page eventually.
I hope you guys get a chance to react to one of my new favorite songs by Band Maid. That song is "Screaming". The best way to view it is one of the live concert videos on UA-cam. Either the one from Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach or at Pointfest in St. Louis really hits home way this has become one of my favorites.
Compare this to the New Track " Shambles ". Just WoW !! I like Thrill anyway , it saved the Band and so we got all these amazing Track that came after this.
After you've watched a number of these early MVs, check "Unleash!!!!!" again and you might recognise a few more of the animated scenes, especially MIku and Thrill.
My favorite part of the song and made me want to hear more from them is the "post chorus"? (not a musician so not sure that's the right name, the part at 7:02), i just love the sound of it
Rickenbacker was the first guitar Miko bought to learn to play. In this video she isn't actually playing it though. She got the guitar because when she went to the guitar store it was shiny and she wanted it lol.
their first mv from 2014 - but they did an entire cd called 'maid in japan' before this song came out. the record did not do well but this mv pretty much saved the band. now the cd is in many a maidiac's prized collections and there are a lot of very good songs on it. not self written but good nonetheless. my favorite song from it is 'key' which has a punk flavor to it and there is a photo collage video on it from P IN D on youtube. if you want to go back even further than this mv check it out.
Great job analyzing Thrill. As others have alluded to, rumor has it that their producer suggested that either Miku or Saiki should hold a guitar for the video. Saiki said she just wanted to sing, so Miku grabbed the Rickenbacker for its looks alone. I think you guys missed entirely that Kanami is playing an Addictone guitar and Misa is playing a 4 string Fender bass. Misa's Fender has a couple of stickers on it. One being Jimi Hendrix and the other says Sweet Potato Pie of all things. I would like to suggest that you react to some of their heavier material. You have done No God, so I would suggest Rinne (Reincarnation), Moratorium, Clang, and Matchless Gum as songs to check out. Continue having fun with your journey!
I believe Miku said she bought that Rickenbacker because she needed a guitar and she thought it was pretty. I don’t know *exactly* when she started playing Zemaitis, but she’s aligned with the prettiest guitars in the business now. I wonder if she still has the Rickenbacker.
Thanks guys, love watching your reactions. Would like to recommend the "dragon cries". It was produced by David Bowies producer Tony Visconta.. has alot of a Led Zep sound of blues rock and is totally in japenglish
