Indeed! Luckily, the Zepp show recording wasn't directed by a drunk cyclops wearing an eye patch.
I've never seen anything as badly directed as the Lallapalooza show. Not sure I've seen a fan cam as bad as that.
Hopefully, the Offset Era boys pick up on your hint about what to react to next. 🤞

    From Japan
I saw them last night in Hiroshima to a sold-out venue with 800 people. Dice to Hate was one of last night's best moments. Kanami, the lead guitarist, was awakened and dominated the venue at full throttle. Everything shines in the 2 hour 20-minute 23 song live performance.
I think they're already working on enough songs to make an album. Two new songs have already been performed at live performances since September. The new album may be released before their Yokohama Arena concert to celebrate their 10th anniversary. I'm hoping for that.

Thanks for going off-piste for this one. I know people can get carried away talking about this band, so I try to stay level-headed, but I've got to admit I got emotional the first time I heard that duel. And the second, and the third.... I didn't even care about the issues with the mix and the camera work.
Part of it is that they were the first Japanese band at Lollapalooza since X-Japan, and there was an expectation that they'd lean in to their pop-rock side, so seeing them add guitar and bass features was the best kind of shock. They also added a duel to Don't You Tell Me, reprising a favourite moment from an old tour.

I think the cameraman (Hulu?) had no idea who does what in the band. In "Dice" when Kanami steps to the front to solo, the camera kept following Kobato. And nice to look at that Kobato ever is, that wasn't quite the point of what was going on. In the same way in "Hate" when MISA was first popping off, he stuck to every other member in the band, possibly expecting something. To be generous, the feller is probably an experienced cameraman who has recorded a shedload of US bands and based his expectations on experience - how was he to know Band-Maid keeps faking everyone out by defying expectations? The camera work did improve in the sense that he seems to have realized his mistakes quickly - he started keeping up with Kanami's solos, and MISA did get featured.

Director. They had multiple cameras and it would be the director who selected which view to use at given moment. Pretty clear they weren't familiar with the band because there were issues focusing on the proper instrumentalist throughout most of the performance.

In Sac, when they played About Us (and the song after) the audience broke out these mini glow sticks that someone had passed out earlier. It was a really cool moment. Band Maid concerts usually don’t have this, but it’s very common at the super popular shows.

Great reaction as usual guys. Akane's drums always sound pretty loud because she uses red with a band- Tama Star Classic Bubinga shells- which are naturally loud. Her snare is usually a Silver Ludwig or similar. And yes, this mix is a bit mushy, which make the vocal complexities of Hate? a little indistinct, but worth it for the guitar/bass dual. Footage showing Miku has been good during recent tours and shows her looking as though she has been playing the guitar for 30 years and not just the nine- from 2014. Try and listen to the Unleash EP for the studio version of Hate.

Lots of people complain about the camera work, but to be fair, this was a live feed with only so many cameramen. They don't do the extended call and response on the studio version. Misa and Kanami are having a conversation. Now in the following I might be mistaken as I'm not a musician. In most bands they have a lead singer and a lead guitarist. Lead meaning, to me, one who establishes and holds down the melody. In Band-Maid they have Misa doing, at times, a lead bass. This conversation is, in my view, their two leads talking back and forth about/in a melody before returning to the already established main melody as Saiki returns.

Which is why Miku is so indispensable with their sound. She holds down the basics, which is anything but basic, to perfection so that Misa & Mincho can do all the lead work they want wherever and whenever they want to add it. This was not a Band-Maid camera crew or director, so we just have to be happy with what we got from Hulu. It's better than nothing. As far as the audio goes, the so-called "optimized audio" is a downgrade, IMO. The unaltered footage is out there in UA-cam land. It's mixed for a live festival performance, so it's not a perfect Blu-ray ready mix, but it's fine as it is.

I was lucky enough to see Band Maid this past May in Charlotte, NC. Small venue holding about 700; I was about six feet from Kanami and had the time of my life.

Unfortunately, I think this 'optimized audio' and the clip it is based on from the Netflix live stream is the best visual presentation of "HATE?" as there isn't an MV for the song. "HATE?" is the last track on the 'Unleash' EP and their is an 'album cover' video on the Band-Maid YT page. While the studio release is is good, it's the live performance that makes this song come alive. Whenever I play this in my car I always think about the Lollapalooza performance and how great it was.
Saiki wrote the lyrics to "HATE?" as Miku didn't feel like writing another dark song about a break up and that the music was too angry. Saiki basically said "I Got This!" and then wrote the lyrics where she cheerfully tells her boyfriend why he doesn't deserve to have her as a girlfriend and that he should go for a long walk off a short pier. Read a good translation and you'll see that Saiki's serio-comic narrative is well scripted.

Sadly the dueling guitars on Hate were only for live performances but the studio version isn't bad by any means. The more you watch this band the more you're confused on why haven't they crossed over into the main stream... I think they've earned it.

All of Lollapalooza was live streamed on HULU, including BAND-MAID’s hour long set. They were the first band on this stage on Friday. You can see the crowd growing as set progressed. They deserve to be invited back next year to play a nighttime set. It’s frustrating that the director knows nothing about BAND-MAID. We never even see MISA during the first half. I think maybe he never even filmed a real rock band before. It was an amazing set with great sound. Unfortunately, the only recording available is a fan bootleg. I think the sound on the original stream was even better, but overall it still sounds great. We are lucky to have this document; your complaints are unwarranted. HATE is the last track on the INLEASHED EP. The lyrics written by SAIKI. No official video; just the studio recording and fan-cams.

Yeah the video director in the production room was clearly drunk that day. I don't blame the cameramen, this is whomever is in charge for the questionable direction.

The director in charge of this must have been someone's cousin or something. Because, seriously! How hard is it to go "camera 1, stage left, focus on the bassist as she does her solo and stay on her!". Instead? "Focus on something else, and just ignore the big moments" The music is amazing, love the energy, the smiles. No fault in Band-Maid at all. But wow! That was terrible camera direction. They even panned away during Kanami's solo only to realize, oops, and then go back just as she's lifting her guitar for the finish. Why?! You had the shot! You just had to stay there and do nothing!
Ok. I vented. I'm good now. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

It's a shame that the cameramen never show Misa, Akane, or Kanami in videos, other than super fast clips. They often show Miku even when it's obvious Kanami is playing, just because of her looks.

Saiki's vocal performance in the last half of the set wasn't good if I'm totally honest, which is very unusual. I've been to their concert at TGT and her voice was so powerful (more powerful than official video)
It maybe because they played at aftershow the night before, which ended in the midnight. They performed 18 songs and played every song super fast. You know how vocally demanding Band-Maid songs are already and Saiki had to rap and sing 15 songs at a lot faster speed than usual and by the end she sounded out of breath and exhausted, which was understandable. I can't imagine myself singing songs like glory, different and unleash at the speed they did 😯 (you can watch the full live footage on UA-cam).
Still, it was a great effort considering this was hour-long set.
There was one point half way through the lollapalooza set where Saiki said "the last", which confused me but I wonder if it was her mentality wishing it was a 30-minute set.
Imagine if Miku had to sing Sayonakidori on this set, it would've been a murder.

Guys, the audio was so bad Saiki was a half tone flat, and it's not her fault, cause she has obviously a fantastic ear, singing in tune over the band's dissonances, i just can't understand why everyone want to ear that concert, since they have lots of amazing lives. That half tone is pure torture for my ears, and i love the Maids!

Gotta be honest, I wasn't a fan of Hate? on the Unleash EP. I basically wrote the track off as filler until I saw it live. If it wasn't intended to have a music festival vibe, then it fits so perfectly that the song doesn't really come to life outside of that context imo.
