One of my favorite features of this song... Kanami's nonstop soloing. She always keeps it moving and is constantly introducing new elements. I can watch and listen to her all day ! ❤️🎸🤯
And also the prominence of her PRS in the mix. Yay for Mincho.🙆♂️
@@GaryHolloway-810 PRS ?...Patently Ridiculous Statement ? I'm sure you don't mean Mincho ! 😉😘🧐
Or is it...Purely Random Sh** ? 🤔💩😉
@@frankandre4385 Pre Royal Stress. Coronation tomorrow.😖
@@GaryHolloway-810 Not to worry...As long as you have your cap 'n bells and marotte...You will fit right in...🤔🃏😘 !
This is how to start a rock song. A song with an extended bass solo is ‘Influencer.’ Miku is taking a poke at some YT channels.
The companion piece is the acoustic version features Kanami and Saiki and it completes the PUZZLE.
That’s what makes this song such a masterpiece. It works in 2 different emotions. This electric version is fast and resembles the spiteful feeling of falling for a married man while the slowed tempo of the acoustic resembles the hurt of falling for someone you can never be with. To me the vocals are the key and I felt like the guitar was drowning them out in this rendition. Still love the song but there’s better mixes imo.
Mincho is so pretty when she's in the groove and has that peaceful smile on her face. 😍
"Okyu-ji" = pronounced "okie you gee" (you did fine) means "serving." It's from the maid cafe culture. The concept is you, the listener, have come home to your castle where they, the maids, serve you (with face-melting rock and roll, as it turns out). They usually play four or five songs before Miku comes up front and says (in Japanese) "Welcome home, masters and princesses!" The attitude pervades the band. The keyboardist is Kanami Tōno - she records backing tracks. This is a recent recording of a song from their 2017 album *"Just Bring It."*
To really experience the power & emotion of this song, please react to the Acoustic live version. Just Kanami on an acoustic guitar & backing vocals, & Saiki pouring her heart out on vocals. A truly amazing experience.
Backing track. Kanami is an outstanding composer, arranger, and pianist.
How these tiny darlings can blast the pants off gnarly 200lb. guys while bringing them to tears at the same time is an incredible thing to behold! So it's a complete Puzzle why the entire rock world aren't "YET" crazed Band-Maid Fans! Is there NO God? 🎀🤪🤘Thx, Chris & Sam!
Music to melt your face & faces to melt your heart.
@@thissailorja Whole lotta Maid Melting goin' on! 👍🫠🤘
Been enjoying my dvd of this concert for the last week since it arrived (48 hours from Yokohama, Japan to Cardiff, Wales, UK - great service from Pony Canyon). The gig was a 26 song, 2 hour+ set from these very energetic maestros. Love when this song hits double time at 7:41. Miku's harmonies are really effective throughout here too. Their gigs are all servings (Okyu-ji), a term which comes from Miku's maid cafe days. The only Puzzle about Band-Maid is why they aren't universally recognised as THE best Rock band in existence. Yet.
I just ordered my copy. 26 songs! Don't care which songs, they are incapable of a bad song anyway. I'm seeing them in Houston this coming May 14. Band-Maid has renewed my love of music. From an old rocker, thank you ladies.
Think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy it
This is off their first full length Just Bring It. The album is nothing but bangers top to bottom.
My favourite album so far!
Kanami has worked this version up a lot, especially her dominant riff.
The Backing Tracks are pre-recoded by Kanami, there are no hidden musicians. Lyrics by Miku. "Puzzle" was 1 of the first songs I heard by them. What is different with this version is the fuller sound due Miku's rhythm guitar. Earlier version was more MISA with very little Miku. Miku's improvement on guitar over the years is something I love about the band.
There is an acoustic version, just Saiki, Kanami with her acoustic guitar. Have a hankie handy.
Out West,
I agree with you on Miku's progress and proficiency on guitar. Most impressive. It makes me proud of her and the band as a whole. I have never heard of a person becoming a musician DURING the bands progression. I can't say enough about Band-Maid. I started listening to music in 1963... and these ladies are one of the best bands I've ever heard! ❤️ Band-Maid!!
@@tunes5077 As to music, I'm old enough to remember Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. And I was in High School when the Beatles came to America.
I agree with you on Band Maid, and Miku and Kanami are one of the best song writing team ever!!
Hi guys! "Okyuji" = "Serving". Band-Maid call their concerts "Servings", it's part of the Maid Café culture they adopted. Same reason they call their fans "Masters & Princesses". The synth is on the backing track, it was played by Kanami.
As for vocals. They play 2+ hour sets, Saiki the vocalist has had throat surgery in the past so they are very careful with her voice. In the middle of their set they give her a break. There will be Miku's infamous "Magic Time" MC set (an hilarious stand up set coming from Maid Cafe culture where she puts a spell on the crowd), an instrumental and/or a Miku vocal song (she normally has one vocal track per album). Then Saiki come's back on.
See you soon Po!
Thanks alot DB... Between you and Tom C, the newbies stay informed and the guys like Gary and myself can do...can do.... well, ya know...the thingamajiggy thing that we do. ❤️😉 !
I should read the comments before making one myself ... I just posted the exact same information!
@@surfingasongwave That's OK. The more the merrier!
Sign of a great song...they flipped it with a beautiful stripped back acoustic rendition. A must-see!!!
One of my absolute favorites. It's off the Just Bring It album. IMHO it's their best album.
It's funny you said this one sounds more raw and less produced, which I know what you mean, but at the same time, at the last show floor, the sound was absolutely perfect. I was surprised just how good the sound check must've been, because those feeds from the mics and instruments were just perfectly mixed. I'm not going to say they played 100% perfectly, because I don't have the musical ear to notice every missed note, but everything was rich without ever overstepping on each other. Everything was tone and pitch perfect. They didn't play Puzzle at the show I went to, but for something like Freedom which I know you reacted to, what you heard in the video is exactly what you get in person. Can't praise their crew enough.
Puzzle was #19 of 26. Was there with 8K of my friends and the concert hall sound dynamics were good. But, they seem to have done a little, not too much though, post production work and that is fine with me. At the end of this show, they left the stage fresh, energetic, and ready to be "Pirates" at their after party, Po! 🦍🍌
It's a backing track. Kanami (lead guitarist) is also their keyboard player. She's good, but not good enough to play guitar and keyboard live at the same time :0
@@gku8744 So what?
@@gku8744 that's true
Kanamis sister does some of the key work too
@@gku8744 Where can I see that? Miyako is awesome.

Kanami solved a puzzle when we were driving down a lane & some sheep blocked the road. I said we'll be stuck for ages but Kanami replied "Don't worry, i'll do a ewe turn".🤦♂️
🙄
So corny that it's funny 😂
lol Baaaa-ro! (bro) 😩 btw - Since "ewe" and "U" sound identical, what Kanami do, spell it out to you? Never mind. Forget it. 🐑👀
Then Rick Nielsen drove up and said " Don't turn around...I can get you through with an old Sheep Trick ..."
Kanami is a pianist and does all their backing tracks
This. Pretty much all the sounds you hear in a Band-Maid song that aren't vocals, bass, drums and guitar, are Kanami having fun on her DAW. She's unique, and wildly creative.
Kanami is a classically trained pianist.
She plays the synth on the backing track.
This is simply a masterpiece. What else can one say?
I wonder when any reactors give credit to the amazing back-up vocals of MIKU...Yes, the instrumentals are more than amazing, but MIKU is the core of the band!
Thanks guys!
I prefer the live recordings to the studio tracks. There are quite a few out the but their show in Chicago last summer. Which was their last show on their US tour wing was epic!! Band-Maid will be playing Lollapalooza & Rockville this summer as well. So if one missed last years tour, here is your chance!! 🤘🦊💕
Tokyo Garden Theater, a huge venue with three tiers of balconies. Seats 7.5k, and the light show was amazing.
Keyboards are on the backing track. Most likely Kanami, but it could be Misa, as both have been playing piano since preschool. Akane also plays piano. Saiki is also learning piano and guitar. Band-Maid has set a high standard for themselves. Band-Maid uses backing tracks, but only to augment their live performance. They take pride in producing their backing tracks wholly on their own. Saiki and Miku augment their vocal parts with background vocals, pitch shifted vocals, and distorted vocals, but never let those overpower their live vocals. They use MIDI keyboards to produce orchestral and keyboard backgrounds. (From Now On is a great example of this) An early critic of the band refused to believe they were playing their own instruments and intimated that they were syncing to pre-recorded music. Kanami was NOT pleased and went on air to demonstrate that she was a more than competent guitarist. This was at the time when Kanami was teaching Miku to play guitar and Kanami told Miku that she musn't hold the guitar on stage as a prop, but must actually PLAY the guitar. Miku did as she was told and this video proves she really knows how to play!
Yeah, they went with a more raw sound for this one. Appropriate for the lyrical content of the song, though I don't think that's the reason. All three Tokyo Garden Theatre videos have a raw sound. Puzzle is a fan favourite which went a long time without an official video so there was much excitement when they released it.
Funny that you mention The Warning. The two bands met at Aftershock, Sacramento, last year, which got lots of positive comments from both fan-bases. They even talked about doing joint shows one day, though I'm not sure how serious they were about that.
That meeting was a lovefest. hahaha. There is a lot of overlap in the fan bases. Honestly, if you are a fan of rock, how can you NOT be a fan of The Warning or Band-Maid!?! In 10 days I am seeing both bands, 2 days apart, at the same venue in Atlanta!! I cannot wait!!
This song is about the jealousy of the "2nd woman"....
Also, what you're hearing in the background is the synth backing track that Kanami recorded (piano was actually her primary instrument)
Band-Maid will be playing in Florida at the "Rockville" Festival on Thursday May 18th =) The Warning will also be playing on Friday May 19th ! Rockville will be at the Daytona Speedway =)
Imo the best hardrock song ever written🤘❤️🔥, the lyrics are outstanding and so the music. It's like a box with yummy chocolate.
The non-fiction days....
8:19 that back track is the same synth you hear at the opening of the song. Kanami, Akane and MISA all play piano.
Saiki also plays piano/keyboard, there's a video out there somewhere of her playing and singing.
@@michaelmunno I forgot about that. Thank you.
@Michael Munno lots of musicians start off on piano. It's a great instrument to first learn music on.
@@armynurseboy yep< I started on Piano before moving to Alto and Tenor sax myself. great way to start.
10 days 'til Houston! Don't miss out on this tour. It might be a while before they re back in the States.
ありがとうございます!
Kanami programs the keyboards; they are then triggered by Akane.
The concert Blu-ray is for sale. The sound is a lot better on Blu-ray than on UA-cam.
The Warning is playing Buckhead Theater the 17th, Band Maid is playing the 19th (and I am going to both!). Band Maid is playing Rockville on Daytona on the 18th, and the Warning on the 19th, so their buses will be passing each other on I-75.
Correct pronunciation of "Okyuji" is Oh-Q-G. Think of it as an acronym for Our Queen Girls. O-Q-G.
The keyboard will be kanami playing on the backing track.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
This song would not have anything like the same sound without Miku.
Band-Maid songs are consistently vocally demanding and lead singer don't get many chances to breathe. She seems to never run out of breath most of the time but it proves Saiki is a human.
Hi there! My idea is you could follow with "From now on", a recent and incredible composition that will blow your mind, as it's even harder, more loaded than anything you heard from them so far..... Good reaction btw 🙂
take the time to isolate each member. you'll be really surprised at how good every composition is.
That is a "right proper" hard rock song. Wow!
Nice Reaction, another couple of Japanese bands I’d recommend trying out: Bridear (Light in the dark if you want their older stuff, or Brave New World Revisited for the new) or maybe Isiliel (Koumiyo Kishi or Seian Kengen) Enjoy!
Turn it up, guys! You're not at your mother's tea party!
Nice reaction guys, as usual ! (there is a better version out there, sound-wise, surely this one is less processed in post production, more raw though)
Cheers laurent

Please react puzzle acoustic
All the comments about the acoustic version are telling the truth. No need to make a reaction to it, but do your musical souls a favor and listen in your free time.
Just Kanami on her acoustic, singing beautiful harmonies as Saiki delivers one of her finest, most emotional performances
My song #1 Puzzle, but I don't like this version, a past version mix is so much better, the studio and acoustic are also fantastic. Nice reaction.
Love it:) Let's connect?
