      @@AS-gf5jn look into Brentwood, Franklin, and pleasant view if you want to be near Nashville and want to live in a nicer area. If you want to be a little further from the city I would look into Clarksville or Murfreesboro. Clarksville is a military town a lot of up and coming stufff going on there and lots of single soldiers. If you’re into nature and are more interested in national parks I would look near Knoxville. That’s more of a college town/ older crowd.

    Thanks for such a helpful video! I’m a conservative Christian (evangelical) from California (LA/OC). Really considering moving to TN with a young family, wife and toddlers. Mostly looking at the suburbs in either Nashville or Knoxville in east TN. California is becoming too expensive, unsafe, and the politics. Just want a good community with like-minded people where I can raise a family to love God and neighbor. You mentioned people are generally friendly and you didn’t notice any racism toward Hispanics. Just wondering if you might know how Asian-Americans like me might be it in? Hopefully as long as we’re friendly, considerate, humble, and so on, it’d be okay? I know we might miss some of the Asian food in California, now and again, but that’s not a big deal to us, and the other things like God, family, good neighbors, freedom, etc. are far important to us.

    • @DaisyValdivia
      @DaisyValdivia  Рік тому +1

      No I didn’t. I actually think it’s really diverse here. And what’s interesting is that everyone seems to live together a lot more cohesively than California, where you have more pockets of culture as apposed to everyone in the same place. I like Nashville area, lots of good churches too. Just look into theology because there’s definitely an interesting church culture in the south.

    • @epistleofdude
      @epistleofdude Рік тому +1

      @@DaisyValdivia Sorry I should've been clearer about race! I just meant it seems like there's not as much racism in TN compared to CA. Of course, there's racism everywhere, but it seems conservative states like TN tend to be better about it than liberal states where race is politicized, politicians and mainstream media fomenting race wars to score political points, etc. I see this kind of thing in California. Sadly my home state of California, and I'm a native Californian, is going downhill fast. But all I meant was I wasn't sure how Asian Americans fit in, since most "race talk" seems to be about white and black, and sometimes Hispanic or Latino, but not often about Asians. So I wasn't sure how Asian Americans who are Christians (evangelical and Reformed) and patriotic would fit into TN. I definitely will look into finding good churches with good theology though. That's definitely the most important thing for us! Thanks again! :)

    • @DaisyValdivia
      @DaisyValdivia  Рік тому +1

      @@epistleofdude gotcha! That makes sense! Sorry I misunderstood, I get asked that a lot. I think race is just such a big deal in California ( it’s our entire identity) where people in other states don’t really care about that. Clarksville TN has a big Asian community because of the military.

      @@DaisyValdivia There are at least 100 homeless people living in an encampment in front of that Walmart and Lowe's. That camp has been in the news for months. They built a shed building out of stolen materials to deal heroin. They panhandle in the parking lots and have attempted to steal women's purses. My wife only goes to that Lowe's if there is no other choice, and she's always carrying when she goes. The homeless have stolen thousands of dollars worth of shopping carts and even an electric riding scooter from the Walmart. How they charge it, I don't know. Also, a rotting corpse was found over there as well. I live in Hillwood about 1 1/2 miles from that shopping center just below Caba Ray's, but I drive to Franklin if I need to go to Lowe's and can't find the same at Home Depot in Bellevue.

    Good perspective from a foreigner.LOL Nashville area is the largest metro area in TN. I know the King was from Memphis and a lot of the stories are interesting. I wouldn't live there. Flood zones are worth checking out. Yes your homeowners insurance will not cover flooding. Its kind of like earthquake insurance in Cali. If you live in a flood zone. You haven't talked about the language here. I speak Southern yall. There are a lot of great folks here Living here will help you view other states differently. The tornados do scare me. I think if you have a house with a basement or storm shelter you might feel better. The spiders are just like black widows in CA, I haven’t seen any. The humidity is a thing, but I only think it’s unbearable like two weeks out of the year. To me having four seasons makes it worth it. The drivers are terrible here, I’ll be honest. You can’t split lanes here either which my husband finds annoying. I don’t let him ride here anymore because we had a friend killed in an accident. I don’t know why the drivers are so terrible but they are.

I’ve so many friends here in motorcycle clubs, and many good friends who just ride leisurely. Previous coworker is from California and he rides almost every other day. I spent a lot of time in SoCal (LA, Laguna, SD)… you all definitely have your share of bad drivers. There’s good and bad everywhere and yes, where you grew up or how you were raised will inform how you respond to where you are. You’ll be fine. But no… do not recommend riding the lines between lanes of cars. Yes, you will get hit. When it happens to me while driving in California, it irks me to no end. But I get it. I have a home I bought for 227k in the hood of south sacramento, lived there my whole life so the hood or ghetto parts never worry me.
    However, I have about 130k in equity now and I do want to move, however how did you find a job or did you guys move and then look for a job?
    I'm an LLC truck driver, I make pretty decent money even for expensive Cali, but I think i want out because my kids start elementary school soon and I don't want them being taught the whole liberal left ideology.
    Is that being taught in Tennessee?
    How much should one make in Tennessee to have a decent life style?

    • @DaisyValdivia
      @DaisyValdivia  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Jose! I totally understand the family dynamic part of it. Our family gave us a pretty hard time about moving. We had to just decide what was best for our family and our kids. Our kids were the biggest factor. We didn’t want to raise them in CA. Also the cost of living over there is insane. We thought they would be better set up for the future somewhere else. We can afford to put them in sports, and other activities. I think you have to do what’s best for you and just let your parents deal with it. Hopefully they come around. We actually have family moving to the area because they finally realized CA isn’t changing. With all that said the cost of living on average is about 40% less than California. It really depends on where you move to and what you want. I think a big mistake people make is they decide to buy a mansion because they can afford that with their CA equity and are stuck having to make the same that they would in CA. My advice is buying a home similar to what you have in CA sq ft wise but not money wise. Hope that makes sense. Our house here cost 170, the same house would have been around 600 in CA.

    It’s so funny to hear someone’s view of Tennessee that’s not from here. My father worked in construction on government, military and State sites so we moved a lot; I was also married to a military member, at the end of his 20+ career we moved back to California, bought a house in Sacramento, and lived there for 16 years. Tennessee is my home state where my mother and father grew up, my sisters and family live here so this was a natural choice to move back. We live 15 miles outside of Jackson, TN and approximately 80 east of Memphis. I’ve never noticed a problem with bugs because we have our home and yard sprayed every four months. The cost of homes is lower than California but so are the wages, it’s relative. I spend almost three months of the year in Oceanside, Ca., visiting my daughter’s family. I love Tennessee because it’s so beautiful and life is slower. Because I don’t live in a large city I never hear little about gangs or major drugs/crime; that’s going to happen no matter where you live…. The only problem I have is this is a “Red” state and have been upset several times when it is assumed that everyone is Republican, I’M NOT. Although I have never had a confrontation with the people that live two blocks from me that have a sign in the front yard saying, ‘TRUMP IS THE REAL PRESIDENT’…. Ignorant… the only place that floods here are the low laying back roads near the river, and they clear by the next day. You are right about the seasons and cost of housing. In our area the rent for a nice apartment is around $800 a month and homes rent for approx $1500+ if they are newer. We have good highways and the only places that have a lot of traffic are the big city areas. Since we are around 80 miles from Memphis and a 2.5 hour drive from Nashville it’s a distance to the airports. We have nice restaurants, fast food places, movie/live theaters, Walmarts, Target, Lowe’s, Home Depot, grocery stores and shopping malls pretty close by. I wish we had Trader Joe’s and In and Out here but not yet. A few people are still wearing masks here, it’s usually the older folks and not mandatory. This is just my perspective so don’t beat me up for commenting. I want to thank you for posting your views on our state and just thought I’d add mine. ❤❤Judy❤❤

      What a great comment Judy! One of the biggest differences I noticed is that people have different political opinions and it doesn’t seem to be a big deal. I’ve seen people at the same event with a trump shirt and another person with a BlM shirt. Same things with neighbors and signs or flags. You can’t really do that in California. I’ve had friends who had their car keyd because of bumper stickers, it’s crazy!

    I've lived in Tennessee most of my life. I love Tennessee. But...I'm just going to say it. Many of us have noticed a trend. People leaving CA, NY, NJ, IL, and so on come to Tennessee to get away from things they voted for. They admit they once voted for them. Then they got what they voted for. Or they voted for things without listening to people who said, "You know this was tried before and _____ happened." These same people come to Tennessee and then they realize they want some of those things, causing them to fall right back into the trap of ignoring the consequences. Before moving anywhere perhaps you should think about why you really want to move; should you instead stay where you are and clean the mess you helped make; are you going to move somewhere new and start making the same mess?
    This includes creating an atmosphere in which property values skyrocket and make homeownership unattainable for most people who have lived and worked in the area their entire lives. If you're coming from an area in which most people don't own their home, do you need someone to explain the consequences?

      What you described in your post can also be said this way ---- "They sh*t in their own nest. Now they're comin' here to sh*t in ours". I hope we can keep TN conservative.
