it's so weird seeing the perspective of someone new to Chicago, I've lived here all my 17 years of life. and seeing everyone in the comments saying they wanna move is such an awakening.
@@ceidysanchez1670 it can be very intimidating but if you have a community you belong to (arts, computer, sports etc) you'll eventually fit in. People are a bit closed off here so try reaching out, lastly there is ALWAYS something going on here whether it be a fair, farmers market, sales, events. If you look a bit there's always something to do for everyone. Doesn't hurt that downtown looks unbelievably stunning so you can just stoll through.
Cost of living is a bit pricey but not as pricey as NY or California. The apartments are also nicer. I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life. I know the areas to avoid and the areas that are safe. Make sure to do your research before you move. Also, I’ve moved about 5 times and I’ve used Trulia for every move. It’s completely reliable and I love that it shows you the criminal activity. The safer neighborhoods are pricier so keep that in mind although in my opinion you can find a decent apartment if you really look. I live in at $1300 1bedroom apartment in west Rogers park. It’s spacious and updated. It’s possible, although by neighborhood has seen a lot of carjackings. Our most recent problem has been carjackings and armed robberies. Don’t be alarmed though it’s not as bad as they make it seem on the news. Some good places you should try are j.b albertos for great pizza, taconazo, wild goose for amazing burgers and wings, and if you want to risk it all Jimmy’s lol but go with a local if possible.
I lived in Chicago for 5 years. The biggest tip I can give anyone is "Don't get discouraged by what you hear from the media" Whenever I lived in Chicago, almost everybody from the suburbs would say "Why do you live in Chicago? its got so much crime there" True, Chicago does have a reputation for crime, but so does a lot of other cities. As far as the crime rate, it really depends on where you live. Crime is scattered around the city and not so much in one whole area. Plus, 65% of the shootings that happen in Chicago are gang-related, so they're not randomly shooting people on the street. You will hear sirens a lot and you may hear some distance gunshots, but for the most part, its like hearing sirens when you're were in your college town lol Never felt scared for my life even when I was walking back from a party at 2 am. Just be safe and use common sense.
Wrong! They definitely are shooing people at random. The FBI currently recognizes 4 serial killers operating in the Chicago area. "The Duck Walk Killer" is the most infamous...and still on the loose. There is so much lead flying around your apartment windows and parked car will definitely act like a bullet-sponge if you live here long enough. And if you thought crime in 2022 was bad...wait until the Democrat-enacted "SAFE-T" act takes effect in 2023! Chicago is nice to visit...but dangerous and anxiety inducing to live here!

I am a Native New Yorker who still lives in New York and has never been to Chicago. I like to go to Chicago, but with all the Crime Problems in Chicago, I am very reluctant to Visit Chicago. I would like to go for one thing to see what the Train and Bus System is like compared to New York. I like to see a video of New York Vs. Chicago.
Don’t be reluctant. The crime here is confined to a few bad neighborhoods. The crime in the majority of neighborhoods is negligible. I have lived here my whole life and never witnessed a violent crime nor have my children who were raised here. And I have been to every part of the city. Don’t listen to the media who have a political agenda.

I'm from another country and will be moving to Chicago, is it possible to rent those considered "luxury" apartments without credit history or renter's insurance? Yes, no different than any other big city. What you hear in the news is highly overblown. Based on 2020 data, Illinois was 19th on the list of most dangerous states, and the city of Danville in Illinois, not Chicago, was the most dangerous city in the state.
Yeah bro just stay away from the west and south side and you'll be fine and if you have or do end up in those areas then just mind your own business and you'll kinda be safe

During the summer and fall, there are several 5k races that will use Lake Shore Drive beachfront trails. Don't be the a-hole and ride it when you see hundreds of people in the same color shirt. You never know when you will need the money that the charity is raising. I had a guy scream at me because he believed that we were in his way. We were raising money for the children's hospital. I told him that he better pray that his kids don't need that hospital in the future. Another guy knocked him off of his bike for being rude to me.

Our weather in Bakersfield is crazy, wear a jacket in the morning and you’ll take it off in two hours or so😫
I grew up in California so I know how that can be!
Lots and lots of information. I want the exercise bands!
They are awesome!!
You make me so excited to move to Chicago 😭🤍🤎
It’s the BEST!!
I dont know when she moved to Chicago but precovid this city in the summer is the greatest city in the world. With all the music festivals, night life, food festivals, neighborhood block parties, the blackhawks, cubs, bulls, sox, its phenomenal. I'm planning on moving back after living in AZ for 5 years
Super informative! Very well done!
Thank you!
Great tips! Just downloaded a couple of apps while watching 😅
Glad I could help! 😊
This was a fantastic video with great information! Thank you
I am a Native New Yorker who still lives in New York and has never been to Chicago.
@@obosumbaAre you Mayor Lightfoot or someone who works for her?
Great information! You earned a new subscriber today
Lmao was looking for a video to send to a friend and his wife thinking about moving here and the "please nobody come at me for my deep dish opinions" is the most Chicago thing you said 🤣
😂😂 I speak the truth lol
This is FANTASTIC info!
Try the beef n cheddar croissant with giardianera from Portillos. Ykyk
Hi Caira, love your videos about Chicago! Do you help clients find houses to buy or just renting apartments? Thx :)
I just do rentals but my team does sales!
Hi, your video is super fast 1 hour informations in 16 min. Keep on👍👍
Thank you!!!
I have a $16 hr job (which is roughly $2100 a month) I can take with me. I want to move Chicago but I need help knowing what safe areas rent apartments under $800. I just need to get out of Milwaukee.
Not happening. That's not enough $$ . A cheap apartment is 1300 $ in a sketchy area with roaches . Chicago is definitely an area where you need to be careful about area get a roommate to afford a better place
Thank you this was so helpful!!!
You should try Devil Dawgs ..... might change your mind about Portillo lol
Someone was just telling me that the other day!
This helped me so much thank you so much!!!
i really like your video i am looking for informations to move in the future soon. thank you
What about the south loop area to reside? Seems nice.. Thank you again for your vid. 👍

Loved every minute of this
Thank you!!
I live i Chicago and just started making videos too!
Does Chicago have a Haight Ashbury type area? (like in San Francisco)
What do you think is the best area as far as dining ? You didn’t mention . Thanks
Ooh that’s hard because everywhere is good! Fulton river district is great, so Is chinatown, uptown, etc!
Hi I’m going on March 5 do you think it’ll be cold / snowing? I would really appreciate it if u answer me please . Thanks
Yes if not snowing it will definitely still be cold!
I'm from another country and will be moving to Chicago, is it possible to rent those considered "luxury" apartments without credit history or renter's insurance? I will get those for sure once i start working but i need a place prior to starting work and really prefer to get a studio apt from those buildings
They will need some sort of proof of income and definitely renters insurance, but renters insurance is cheap! It’s like $10 a month.
@@CairaButton Can I reach out to you when I start apartment hunting? just in case i get overwhelmed regarding all these! Cause i definitely need all the help i could find
@@angelaparc yes absolutely! Email me caira.button@compass.com
What about all the crimes in the city is it easy to avoid the bad areas
I’ve lived here my whole life it’s easy to avoid bad areas. The media makes Chicago sound so much worse lol
Yes, no different than any other big city. What you hear in the news is highly overblown. Based on 2020 data, Illinois was 19th on the list of most dangerous states, and the city of Danville in Illinois, not Chicago, was the most dangerous city in the state.
Yeah bro just stay away from the west and south side and you'll be fine and if you have or do end up in those areas then just mind your own business and you'll kinda be safe
oh yea, this is a really helpfull video.
Yay thank you!!
Here in Seattle so many of those bikes are trashed.
i’m already IN chicago debating on if i want to stay here or move down to NOLA. been here for two years (1 and a half w/o covid tho) and i just... oof i needs me a realtor!
If you need a realtor in Chicago Id love to help!
Watching this because I’m moving to Chicago in September….can anyone tell me what roger’s park is like??
Good job, keep people moving in and not leaving Illinois for my state!!!
