I moved from Orange County CA with my parents when I was 23 to TN and literally had to start over but now that I've been here for 27 years, I wouldn't have changed anything. TN is a way better place to raise kids and have family values. Glad to see more people moving to TN from Cali.

I really appreciate this insight from a young Californian. I landed on your channel after typing in "Moving Out of California". She said what I was thinking as the quality of life here is anything but good. Not certain what State I will land in the next 60 days or less but I gave Cali a half a century of hard dedicated work---struggling every single day of my life. I totally give up. Thank you for this! Best of good living in Tennessee!
You guys are what makes America, America, family values.Ive watched you guys run for charities, pick up trash along paths, cant stand liter bugs, and your all a neighbor who would gladly help someone. If they had a contest for a Great American family who loves the country you have my vote, most sincerely.
She's the same age as my daughter. We've been here a year and it's been a very difficult year, but my daughter is finally finding some friends. My daughter now never wants to leave, while i'm still feeling unsure. One thing i really love is that since moving here, my testimony of Faith and relationship with Jesus has gone sky high to levels i didn't know could exist. That's priceless. And i do think living in the south might have something to do with encouraging "more Jesus". Your daughter has the most precious smile and sensitive nature. God Bless her and your family!

Just found your channel. You're having a similar experience to our family. Moved from CA to TN 3 years ago, best decision ever. Our 19 year old son is thriving, happier and making good friends. California is not the same anymore, it's tapped out. Looking at my kid growing up here reminds me of my experiences I had in the 80's CA. Thanks for sharing.
Glad y'all like it here, Tennesseans are great people but we also don't want a lot of people moving here and pushing us out of our home towns. We like the people that adapt to our way of life and how it is here. We don't like the people that move here and bring the same crap that ruined where they're from and try to change it here. So if you're thinking of moving here keep that in mind, don't try to change it.

The living cost in TN is just as bad due to the influx of people moving here with the mindset you have. Some people from TN can't even afford homes here.
Costs are high now but they weren't. Had a house built in Palm Coast, Florida 2003 for $80,000. 3 bed room, 2 bath, 2 car garage on 80 x 120 lot. My property taxes right now are $615 per year. I was surprised that she considered "cost of living" important. My impression of young people is that money grows on trees. Taxpayers don't want to pay off student loans.
I escaped for E Tenn over 33 years ago. I say I left because of the gangs, not the street gangs but the ones running Sacramento. People then thought I was crazy to move here from the paradise of Calif. Now everybody knows that you have to be crazy to stay in Calif.
My niece has a fine arts degree in photography and is very successful. Can she go anywhere she wants to go to college? Does your other daughter want to go to college and can it be anywhere she wants to go.
As much as I hate Californians and other left people moving to Tennessee, I'm not only glad you chose Tennessee, I think you are a great asset! Hope to meet you soon!
I’m not. I’ve grown up in middle TN and it’s absurd how far right Tennessee is going. We some balance. Since conservative Tennesseans aren’t likely to visit areas that aren’t also conservative it’s me unto have people coming here with an alternative perspective. The far right is not a good place to be. Time to move back to the middle so that everyone is represented and free not just white Christian republicans.
@@WestHamsufferer As someone that grew up in East TN, it has always been "far right". We like it that way. I also have lived in CA for 8 years and have experienced first hand how a leftist state is run. There's a reason "far right" states are in a much better place. Don't California my Tennessee please. 😁
@@OffThaHeezay 20 years ago it was one thing to be far right. Now it’s gone well beyond small government, gun rights and pro corporation. What’s happening here is concerning. Maybe you live in the sticks and don’t see it but when Nazi flags sit level with the American flag in Memphis and members of our legislature openly practice racial discrimination and sexual harassment/ intimidation it’s concerning. What’s happening to people of color, the LGBTQ community, young women and non-Christians in TN is not ok. Love should never look like hate. Christ said love your neighbor but what we see is hate. Balance is needed. We need pull back from the Christian nationalism we are currently dealing with in TN
@@OffThaHeezay The whole "Don't California my Tennessee" thing cracks me up. I think it's lost on a lot of Tennessee natives that people are moving here from "left" states because their moral compass is more in line with Tennessee. I don't think if you've been a follower of Hoag's channel that you could mistake him for a left wing Californian coming to Tennessee to "California it up" as you say. Quite the opposite.
Tennessee has pretty diverse cultures. You can mostly sum it up by the three regions or "grand divisions" (indicated by the three stars on our state flag). West Tennessee is more Ozark/Mississippi Delta culture. Central Tennessee is traditional Southern culture. East Tennessee is Appalachian Scots-Irish influenced - what most people think of when they think "hillbillies". Since it's a musical state, you can think of it as: West Tennessee is blues (Memphis), Central Tennessee is country (Nashville) and East Tennessee is bluegrass. If you're moving here you might find it difficult to be accepted in some cases. Remember that in a lot of places, families have been here for generations. We love it so much we don't really move and we don't want it to change. Accept and adapt to the local culture and you'll find it easier to fit in. People here really get irked when folks move here and try to change it. That's what I've heard a lot of people who move here say - that they don't really fit in. Usually that's why. Just respect the culture and adapt to it and you'll be a Tennessean in no time!
My family is from Nashville and all of my sons college friends are moving to other cities because they cannot afford an apartment here. The average one bedroom in Nashville and surrounding areas start at around $1700 and up with an average two bedroom running around $3200 and up. There are too many minimum wage jobs with no health insurance.Having a small business is impossible. My small antique store went from $650 to $7000 in less than six years. The last increase put me out.
Covered all of California, met plenty of hillbillies and farmers. Married a girl who was actually born in LA. Tennessee is an epically better life. Its not close. They have ruined California.
Moving to another state from California is difficult at first usually a bit of a culture shock , the hard parts are meeting new friends and the schools are different . Then there is the climate , I moved from LA to Washington state about 70 miles north of Seattle it was depressing at first . Yeah it rained a lot and was much cooler even in summer. We get all four seasons where in California maybe two seasons. Work is another challenge when you move sometimes you really have to start over with a lower paying job unless you are skilled or have a trade that is needed. But the quality of life is where your decision really pays off for you , your daughter got huge break in meeting her boyfriend his presence filled the void that was created by her having to leave her friends. Tennessee is nice hot in summer but they too get the four seasons it's part of the south and as far as I am concerned you can't go wrong living in the south America still thrives there in California it's gone andf it isn't coming back.

When you asked if you should have stayed in California and it took her a few seconds to answer, you should have had some flashcards showing the homeless encampments, the San Francisco drug users, the crime, the overpopulation, and all the other things that has caused California to decay so much in the last few years. It would have been an instantaneous NO! Glad you guys moved here as it inspired me to do the same.
@@arkomoose1002 Having been born and lived in California for roughly 54 years of my 62 years (8 years out while serving with the Active Duty Air Force), I think I know what I am talking about. I have watched the state decline from San Diego to Mt Shasta. Crime in Tennessee is NOTHING compared to Oakland or San Jose or LA or Sacramento or many other overpopulated cities. The state is circling the drain and the corrupt politicians and mindless leftist citizenry are just making it happen faster and faster. You're preaching to the wrong choir. Go live there a few years and see for yourself.
We shouldn’t let California go, it’s such a beautiful place, such a shame what’s happened out there, it’s really sad. If we had stronger people, we could take it back, but for now, it’s lost.

I just want to be honest since you are sharing her feelings to the world, I figured why not say. She obviously made changes and met someone to date because she had to keep on living life but it's obviously not what she wanted also since she is shy already on camera you should not have pointed out she has a sweater on in hot weather by a fire she's probably shy OMG.. as a dad you should be more sensitive to her because of her shyness and not make her feel embarrassed! Wow not cool man.
I give anyone who moves from commieforina high praise ,I live in the crappy state and the only thing good about it is the weather. Otherwise high taxes ,high gas prices . Tons of crime and homeless, corrupt politician's, way over crowded, most people don't like each other and have become self isolated, much to liberal. Bad roads and highways with pot holes. Trash and graffiti everywhere.and why I'm I here? it's a bad heart . high blood pressure, diabetic, old age living in a trailer struggling to pay bills, I wished I had moved to a red state when I first got married 40 yrs ago.califorina is hell

I was surprised that she considered "cost of living" important. My impression of young people is that money grows on trees. Taxpayers don't want to pay off student loans.
Doing some research on retirement place.
Come across your channel: nice family. Wish you the best!
I escaped for E Tenn over 33 years ago. I say I left because of the gangs, not the street gangs but the ones running Sacramento. People then thought I was crazy to move here from the paradise of Calif. Now everybody knows that you have to be crazy to stay in Calif.
Tennessee looks good on her.
1:45 start.
Good kid; good parents.
There’s no fixing CA
I want to get out from Miami..waiting for my kid to finish Hs. to move to Ooltewa , Tn
My niece has a fine arts degree in photography and is very successful. Can she go anywhere she wants to go to college? Does your other daughter want to go to college and can it be anywhere she wants to go.
where in California did you live before moving to TN?
As much as I hate Californians and other left people moving to Tennessee, I'm not only glad you chose Tennessee, I think you are a great asset! Hope to meet you soon!
Maybe don't generalize all Californians as "left people".
What college does she attend ?? Thanks 🙏
My buddy moved to California from rural West Virginia and he was treated like 💩. Good for him he kick ass but I think that move is harder.
Covered all of California, met plenty of hillbillies and farmers. Married a girl who was actually born in LA.
Tennessee is an epically better life.
Its not close. They have ruined California.
You guys from Corona? I feel like I heard her say Santiago
Yup
@@Hoagmatthew did she always have that slight southern draw in her voice? Or did that develop in Tennessee?
SMART -- period!!!!
Never Ever come back here! People are getting worse (attitude wise) here in SoCal!
My husband and I want to move to Tennessee from California but we are worried about out 10 year old. This was a great insight.
what part of TN you in?
Might have to love from LA Cali tn for work and I'm scared lol
Go Vols🧡🍊🧡
Doxies are the best dogs 😍
What’s there to do go when your in your 60’s and not rolling over for no care center I’m not ready for group homing it with senior LMMFAO PLEASE FIND ME INFO IM COMING IN MARCH 2024
You must be my neighbor. Talking about my area for HS and college.
To be honest I thought the woman holding the dog was the daughter at first.
You’re watching too much tv news. Crime is worse in TN than most parts of CA. SF is NOT the entire state.
Baylor..very Tennessee name for a teen.
That daughter is sure holding back her thoughts. 🤣
I love your dachshund.. I've grown up with two of them in my life..
Your better off, short and long term.
We shouldn’t let California go, it’s such a beautiful place, such a shame what’s happened out there, it’s really sad. If we had stronger people, we could take it back, but for now, it’s lost.
I believe that moving out of CA was a wise move. But doing so during the middle of her HS years could have turned out badly.
Yikes 50 kids in 1 classroom in California vs. Smaller classrooms in Tennessee. Good move!
East Tn is the best! 🍊Homegrown and wouldn’t live anywhere else besides Montana in the summer.
Let her talk!!! You were directing the interview way too much, telling her the way it was. She has her own opinion as an adult.
I hope you didn't bring those nasty California politics to wonderful Tennessee! (I know you didn't)
She’s very sweet. Sadly you can see the sadness in her face and voice. It also sounds like with every one of her responses, you guys are trying to get her to change her answers to make the move sound like a good idea. Just saying.
He’s totally ‘coaching ‘ her responses and using ‘leading questions’.
Tennessee is now Full
Please stay home
That's a beautiful gal
Not really sure what this video was trying to achieve. I got nothing from it. LOL
Where were you guys in CA? Not all of CA is terrible. I would bet that not all of TN is wonderful.
Do you guys take Mexicans?
Go back yours truly mid TN
REFUGEE from Kommufornia now an Okie 😊
I left TN in in January. Best move I ever made. TN is a dump. Bad roads, bad schools, high crime, bad healthcare etc. Low quality of life.
I enjoyed this, But 19 years old is not a child ,I maybe wrong but i think our long lives has removed any sense of needing to accomplish anyhing.
