I purchased one in October in Sarge Green and love it! There's plenty of hate in Aus about the Jeep brand but I was willing to give it a go and don't regret it. Reuben, you forgot to mention the factory 4 x Aux buttons on the dash so you can easily wire in lights and other accessories, you can unscrew the plate on the front bar to install a winch and the bash plates scattered under the car in all the vital areas for added protection. One thing that no-one realises until they own one of these is the attention it gets. The amount of people who turn their heads and look at it as you drive past or the waves and smiles you get from other Gladiator or Wrangler owners. It really is 'a Jeep thing'
As an American here, I'm delighted to give my two-bits to the conversation. I've driven Jeep Gladiators four or five times over the past five years when visiting the other Hawaiian Islands. (I live on the Island of Molokai). I've owned a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon since taking delivery of it in April 2012. I owned and drove Series IIA and III Land Rovers from April 1964 to mid-1993. My Wrangler Rubicon has had one problem since new: The navigation unit was replaced under warranty. My wife had a 2014 Grand Cherokee diesel from 2014 to 2019 while we lived in Utah prior to moving to Hawaii. (Her diesel Grand Cherokee had various "issues" with its emissions control system. Each time it had an issue, we had to take it back to the Jeep dealership in Provo, Utah. So we sold her Grand Cherokee prior to moving to Molokai.) Right now, December 2023, I'm seriously thinking of buying my wife a new vehicle. The ONLY vehicle I'm thinking of buying Debbie is a Jeep Gladiator. Those Series Land Rover vehicles I owned had many, many "issues" over the years. Broken rear halfshafts, broken speedometer cables and speedo heads, cracked exhaust manifolds (on the 4-cylinder petrol engines), oil leaks and more oil leaks. I dearly loved Land Rover vehicles, having learned to drive on them in 1964. I've been driving Jeeps for the past eleven years. I own a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon. I paid 115k for mine with 2" lift and big 33x12.5 tyres with a couple of inches of offset...mine is a beast. I agree the long wheel base is a drawback and i would advise anyone that if they plan on any hardcore 4wding, a set of 37's and at least 3" - 4" lift is a must. Having said that, even with 2" lift and 33"s mine is amazing offroad. Its articulation and rock crawling abilities in off camber are incredible. One thing Rubin did not touch on and this is really really important is that the very low profile of the Gladiator makes it absolutely amazing on steep side slopes...i reckon it would be really really difficult to put one on its lid... especially with offset rims like mine. One would have to do something really stupid before that would happen. Some of the drawbacks... 1. Transmissions in the 2022 models may have a known factory flaw in manufacture. I have 38k km's on mine and its just had a brand new transmission under warranty because of a known manufacturer fault ( i do not drive my car hard...this is the first new car ive owned and i am really careful with it 4wding. Its done some pretty deep muddy water immersions...up to top of 33" tyres..but i dont rev the shit out of it or bounce it hard through stuff. Its scraped underneath a few times, but not badlly enough to bend anything. The transmission failure was a real letdown. 2. My engine has had both heads removed and the oil pan removed and all pistons and both heads de-carboned due to a PCV valve failure sending oil back through the top end of the motor. This carbon buildup caused pre detonation and it started immediately after the 12km service. Apparently another known fault in this model. It took my dealer 8 months to get the parts and to fix this issue under warranty. In the meantime, the car did 28,000 km during this time with a failing PCV valve and the engine was pinging badly the whole time whenever is passed through 1600 rpm or was coasting along at 60 km/hr (totally gave me the shits at this speed). they finally fixed the engine problem when the transmission was replaced at 37,600km (ive just got the car back 2 weeks ago) 3. The backend is far too floaty in suspension. This causes the car to buck and swerve all over the road when hitting potholes and bumps. I first experienced this at 100km/hr at nightime when i hit a bump that sent me careering more than 1m over onto the wrong side of the road before i could even blink. I am lucky nothing was coming the other way when it happened or i would have certainly had a head on collision and been killed. ( I do admitt that the wider wheel track i am running would make this problem in directional stability worse...however, the rear suspension definitely needs to be stiffened up with stronger coils and better shocks). So first thing straight out of the factor, ensure you get stiffer coils for it. 4. Handbrake...100% will turn shithouse after its been in muddy water a few times. I dont know what goes wrong, but mine hasnt worked for a couple of months. I asked the dealership to fix it twice...first time they didnt do anything...second time they simply adjust the cable underneath the center console...which did jack shit! There is something frozen up in the backend! 5. She is a long girl...dont expect the wife to be able to park it in city carparks...its like 4 point turns even getting around carparks unless you really swing wide...even then, often 2 point turns. 6. Towing....learn to use manual mode or the transmission dropping back to sound barrier breaking engine rpm will drive you nuts...its dead set hopeless in torque. The factory gearing on the Rubicon is such that it has no power unless the engine is starting to do its nana well above about 4000rpm. 7. Because of the rear overhang...towing heavy trailers rear steers the car all over the road 8. Rear overhang with tow bar will scrape on anything and everything. 9. Bonnet release lever under middle front is an absolutely idiotic thing to use...i wont explain, just try to open one and you will know instantly what im talking about (Ruben having to look underneath his to open it tells the story!) 10. Drivers side left foot space is really invaded by the damned gearbox well... your left foot ends up partially under the brake pedal. Ive almost run up the back of cars in traffic because my bloody left workboot stopped me from being able to brake properly! (be warned about this one!) 11. Dont expect to be able to turn steering wheel when not moving whilst in 4wd with diffs locked. The steering is almost impossible to turn unless you are moving forward at about fast walking pace! Even without locks in, cannot turn wheel if car isnt moving when in 4wd on a rutted track. Finish on high notes...Ruben forgot to show the bluetooth speaker that is behind drivers side rear passenger seat. Its freaking awesome. You pull it out of the car and carry it over to where ever... bluetooth to your phone and it livens up any camp party or worksite with lots of "doof doof". Bloody love that speaker! Heated steering wheel and heated seats on both sides at front. Ruben...how did you miss these? Love the heated seats and steering wheel.
Took a mates for a drive and it literally drove itself up this insane hill (stock) That alot of other locals have rolled heavly modified cars on Was the most insane thing ive ever seen. Now i want one.

Plenty more you could have mentioned Rueben in addition to mud tyres and fox shocks from the showroom, such as not having to upgrade to rear disk brakes like most other “universal” dual cab utes, the tailgate supports can be positioned to hold the tailgate at half drop giving a level load height to the wheel arches, faster than standard throttle response in 4H off-road mode for sand etc and softer throttle response in 4L for rock crawling. Unfortunately the small rear window behind the seats is a manual slide only, would be excellent if it was electronic.
I've got one and I love it. You missed one of the coolest little features in the back seat though, the docking rechargeable Bluetooth speaker behind the seat. Also the aux switches with inbuilt wiring in engine bay and foot well. Never had a car so easy to wire accessories onto. I've even made a couple vids on UA-cam with my setup. Love seeing your builds mate 👌
I've got a 2020 Gladiator overland and yes its tough bit of kit, Mine didn't get the lockers unfortunately but still capable as hell. Only problem is I've spent 25-30K on top of the 85k price tag to really make it a weapon. I just hope the aftermarket side of things comes to AUS because there is very few places that stock aftermarket and good GVM brand upgrades. I've had to turn to custom fabricators and small companies to make bits and bobs.
They’re a good bit of kit. Stock for stock there’s not much that’ll keep up off-road, and when it comes to modifications there’s heaps of options. They’re basically adult LEGO toys lol.
jeep used to build jeeps in brisbane up until chrysler took over in the late 80's. they've always been better offroad they were just more expensive than toyota and nissan. i've always had jeeps and always found it funny the reputation some 4wd's in australia got, either for being capable or being reliable. everythings capable and reliable if all you're tackling is the drive through bottle o.
Anyone taking the car remote will know how important reliability is. Due to cost cutting not many spares are stored and mechanic time is at a premium. Towing costs are exorbitant from remote places. Australian lemon laws aren’t that reliable either last time I watched that lemon song. Yet, I would love to own a Jeep Rubicon for my fantasy off-road trips. For now, my Y62 Patrol takes me anywhere and brings back home.
From the States, my buddy has a Mojave trim (more high speed desert style versus the Rubicon rock-crawler), his is an '01 I believe, and he has over 200k miles on it now. It has been shockingly reliable. If you let them sit, the Auxiliary battery will give you problems w/ the electrical system. The only issue he had was paint flake on the bonnet from improperly treated aluminum panel from the factory. It was replaced under warranty. The early pentastar's had issues (especially in heavier vehicles if they were towing), but that was the 2012/3's and older.
We love our 2020 gladiator. Bought it new, got it in December 2020 and have now done almost 100000 km in it. What I'm not a fan of, that is, way too many electronics but you get that in most brand-new vehicles these days. We had to get a solenoid for the electronic locker replaced twice now in the rear axle. Both times, it was fixed under warranty. I do agree, it is comfy to drive and I'm 6'7". I still can have an adult behind me when I sit in the front. I don't like the fact that we can't get the 33's and high clearance flares from factory as they do in the US.
A big thank you for sharing that video with me. I was very impressed with it and stocked how they have designed them for the taller person to us shorter person and me on the hand short legs and a long body which I hate most cars my head is almost touching the roof then you can not use the sun visor because I can’t see wear I’m going. I have owned Ford,Holden's, Toyota's,Nissan's Mitsubishi,Suzuki and Jeeps.The only vehicles I love driving are Holden's,Jeeps and Mitsibishi Pajero. The other vehicles just do a job. Jeeps are number one for personality for me
The sway bar will reconnect at 17mph or roughly 27kph, but you can also manually disconnect the sway bar, but let’s face if you are in a situation where you actually need to disconnect the front sway bar should you really be going over 27kph?

Cruiser or Patrol any day. Had enough of bent diffs after a trip in the dunes with a Jeep. Patrol or Cruiser you can have fun all weekend and drive to work on Monday, with a Jeep you have to get a ride from a workshop to your work IF it lasts a fun filled weekend. Maybe if swapped with Patrol axles, a LS and a proper gearbox(not auto).
Agree, I had a JK a few years ago. Good capable car but the asthmatic V6 and tiny diffs are the letdown. The Gladiator good have been a good car but they didn't bring the 3.0 litre diesel here.
I think you will find that no one doubts there ability or cool factor.its more about reliability issues .the most unreliable brand fiat/ Chrysler. If they had reliability I think they would be huge in Australia

They may or may not be more or less reliable that any other manufacturer. We all know that they are very capable, so it might be a lack of dealer support for us Aussie's, so that can be a turn off.

I've got a JL 2 door with a few mods, the damned thing goes anywhere. I've pointed it up stuff that I couldn't even walk up, and it does it easily. Couple of videos of it on my channel if you're interested
Unfortunately Ruben reliability and parts availability have proven to be an issue and the costs associated with both. Jeep/Chrysler have also proven to be exceptional at throwing the customer under the bus with warranty claims past and present.
Not certain yet, but we only offer the utmost quality modifications. And, to achieve this we undergo a plethora of certifications by DMW and the government as well as numerous vehicle tests. So we still need to do some extensive study and engineering before it an be offered, if ever. :)
@@1CoolbananaWould be way better - vehicle safety systems have come a long way in 25 years! The JL Wrangler would have been 5 star rated around 5 years ago, but the standards don't stay still. Nearly all of the criteria are based on road use anyway, which shouldn't be that relevant if you are buying a Wrangler.
I started watching Australian content because I was sick of seeing Jeeps in every off-roading video I watch. Now a lot of y’all are starting to put them in videos so I guess that means watching 4wheeling is pretty much a thing of the past for me.
Just saying there has never been a Toyota that has passed Australian military test requirements for military acceptance , only land rover ,jeep & Mercedes . Yes they have plenty of Toyota vehicles but they are only for white fleet 5:455:46
its very simple... Out of the box, the most capable off road vehicles are Jeeps and Landrovers. Always has been. In my experinece as a 3rd generation dealer, Jeep Australia is a bigger issue then the product themselves especially the Wrnaglers which at the core are a fairly simple vehicle. Grand Cherokees not so much. Toyota are trading off a reputation from the 80's that simply isnt justified anymore. Comfort in the jeeps isnt going to be as good as the toyotas or nissans and certainly nowhere near a landrover but the JL series is closing the gap...
Ur a great salesman for stellantis jeep no mention of all the reviews on jeeps unreliability & 💩 customer service & it’s tiny 209 kw & 347Nm only suitable for towing a very small trailer forget about a caravan 🤔
Why the hell do you want to tow? You are wasting a vehicle if you want a Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator just for towing. You wouldn’t be buying these things to tow! Period. They are a trail crawler. There is a multitude of options out there for towing but very few options that have solid live axles, front and rear diff lockers and sway bar disconnects from the factory floor.

I hated Jeep till I drove one. I sold my 2012 Landcruiser 200 series for $75k with 300,000 early this year and bought a mint 2014 Grand Cherokee for. $20k with 120,000. If the Jeep dies, I will just buy another one. Trick to Jeep is finding independent mechanic who specialises in them. Admittedly the cruiser is better off road and I wouldn’t do a lap in the grand Cherokee.

I own a JL rubi and it’s by far the most capable car i have ever owned! Not to mention the price tag compared to all other cars on the market!!

Stock for stock there’s not much that’ll keep up off-road, and when it comes to modifications there’s heaps of options. They’re basically adult LEGO toys lol.
jeep used to build jeeps in brisbane up until chrysler took over in the late 80's. they've always been better offroad they were just more expensive than toyota and nissan. i've always had jeeps and always found it funny the reputation some 4wd's in australia got, either for being capable or being reliable. everythings capable and reliable if all you're tackling is the drive through bottle o.
Anyone taking the car remote will know how important reliability is. Due to cost cutting not many spares are stored and mechanic time is at a premium. Towing costs are exorbitant from remote places. Australian lemon laws aren’t that reliable either last time I watched that lemon song. Yet, I would love to own a Jeep Rubicon for my fantasy off-road trips. For now, my Y62 Patrol takes me anywhere and brings back home.
From the States, my buddy has a Mojave trim (more high speed desert style versus the Rubicon rock-crawler), his is an '01 I believe, and he has over 200k miles on it now. It has been shockingly reliable. If you let them sit, the Auxiliary battery will give you problems w/ the electrical system. The only issue he had was paint flake on the bonnet from improperly treated aluminum panel from the factory. It was replaced under warranty. The early pentastar's had issues (especially in heavier vehicles if they were towing), but that was the 2012/3's and older.
We love our 2020 gladiator. Bought it new, got it in December 2020 and have now done almost 100000 km in it. What I'm not a fan of, that is, way too many electronics but you get that in most brand-new vehicles these days. We had to get a solenoid for the electronic locker replaced twice now in the rear axle. Both times, it was fixed under warranty. I do agree, it is comfy to drive and I'm 6'7". I still can have an adult behind me when I sit in the front. I don't like the fact that we can't get the 33's and high clearance flares from factory as they do in the US.

I was very impressed with it and stocked how they have designed them for the taller person to us shorter person and me on the hand short legs and a long body which I hate most cars my head is almost touching the roof then you can not use the sun visor because I can’t see wear I’m going. I have owned Ford,Holden's, Toyota's,Nissan's Mitsubishi,Suzuki and Jeeps.The only vehicles I love driving are Holden's,Jeeps and Mitsibishi Pajero. The other vehicles just do a job. Jeeps are number one for personality for me

I drove one I loved it.
The sway bar will reconnect at 17mph or roughly 27kph, but you can also manually disconnect the sway bar, but let’s face if you are in a situation where you actually need to disconnect the front sway bar should you really be going over 27kph?
The swaybar will only disconnect in 4L so good luck getting any serious speed in 4L where having the swaybar connected will be beneficial.

Had enough of bent diffs after a trip in the dunes with a Jeep.
Patrol or Cruiser you can have fun all weekend and drive to work on Monday, with a Jeep you have to get a ride from a workshop to your work IF it lasts a fun filled weekend.
Maybe if swapped with Patrol axles, a LS and a proper gearbox(not auto).
Agree, I had a JK a few years ago. Good capable car but the asthmatic V6 and tiny diffs are the letdown. The Gladiator good have been a good car but they didn't bring the 3.0 litre diesel here.
Have a look at the 392 wranglers it ain't no ls just a shitload better

I think you will find that no one doubts there ability or cool factor.its more about reliability issues .the most unreliable brand fiat/ Chrysler.

They may or may not be more or less reliable that any other manufacturer. We all know that they are very capable, so it might be a lack of dealer support for us Aussie's, so that can be a turn off.

I'd love one so I can step out of an old gu but some of the issues I see pop up on the fb groups haven't fully sold me on one yet. My gu has been super reliable, just very noisy to drive lol

I've got a JL 2 door with a few mods, the damned thing goes anywhere. I've pointed it up stuff that I couldn't even walk up, and it does it easily. Couple of videos of it on my channel if you're interested
Unfortunately Ruben reliability and parts availability have proven to be an issue and the costs associated with both. Jeep/Chrysler have also proven to be exceptional at throwing the customer under the bus with warranty claims past and present.

Not certain yet, but we only offer the utmost quality modifications. And, to achieve this we undergo a plethora of certifications by DMW and the government as well as numerous vehicle tests. So we still need to do some extensive study and engineering before it an be offered, if ever. :)

@@1CoolbananaWould be way better - vehicle safety systems have come a long way in 25 years! The JL Wrangler would have been 5 star rated around 5 years ago, but the standards don't stay still. Nearly all of the criteria are based on road use anyway, which shouldn't be that relevant if you are buying a Wrangler.
I started watching Australian content because I was sick of seeing Jeeps in every off-roading video I watch. Now a lot of y’all are starting to put them in videos so I guess that means watching 4wheeling is pretty much a thing of the past for me.
Just saying there has never been a Toyota that has passed Australian military test requirements for military acceptance , only land rover ,jeep & Mercedes .

its very simple... Out of the box, the most capable off road vehicles are Jeeps and Landrovers. Always has been. In my experinece as a 3rd generation dealer, Jeep Australia is a bigger issue then the product themselves especially the Wrnaglers which at the core are a fairly simple vehicle. Grand Cherokees not so much. Toyota are trading off a reputation from the 80's that simply isnt justified anymore. Comfort in the jeeps isnt going to be as good as the toyotas or nissans and certainly nowhere near a landrover but the JL series is closing the gap...

Why the hell do you want to tow? You are wasting a vehicle if you want a Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator just for towing. You wouldn’t be buying these things to tow! Period. They are a trail crawler. There is a multitude of options out there for towing but very few options that have solid live axles, front and rear diff lockers and sway bar disconnects from the factory floor.
maybe to take your caravan to a cool place and then go wheeling Duh, and the gladiator wheel base is to long . i had a JK wrangler and it was capable when not broken or leaking when it rained.@@fencepostturtle6269

I hated Jeep till I drove one. I sold my 2012 Landcruiser 200 series for $75k with 300,000 early this year and bought a mint 2014 Grand Cherokee for. $20k with 120,000. If the Jeep dies, I will just buy another one. Trick to Jeep is finding independent mechanic who specialises in them. Admittedly the cruiser is better off road and I wouldn’t do a lap in the grand Cherokee.

I own multiple. Never let me down. Moved up from a wrangler to a gladiator. Awesome vehicle! All brands have their issues.
Can’t beat the reliability of a Wrangler or Gladiator. Cherokees aren’t real Jeeps.
That's actually not true at all. They are every bit as reliable as anything else. And I mean anything. I see more Toyotas doing track side repairs than jeeps by huge margins. I suppose some older models may have had issues, but to pretend that all of our favorite brands haven't is nonsense.
