Gladiator doesn't sell b/c its expensive.
Underrated and the correct answer here.
And it’s uncomfortable!
It is SO SMALL inside.
@@Gltokensp06 we have plenty of room in ours
And ugly
Jeep Gladiator is like the worst of both worlds. Too many compromises makes it not a good truck and not good offroading.
I really love my 2022 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. I use it for overlanding and have had zero issues. Almost 20K miles and have no complaints, only smiles!
Eco diesel?
20k is nothing

@@crispusattucks6094 didn’t the first year of the JL have issues where the frame wasn’t welded correctly and fell apart on the highway?
I’ve had my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon since November 2019 and it has been a fun truck to own. Bought it new and it’s been a good truck. Not for those that keep trying to compare them to a weekend garden truck or F150. It’s a lifestyle truck for those that wanted a convertible, but live in winter 8 months out of the year and wanted a truck. I don’t care about depreciation because I’m never selling it.

They would be selling a lot more gladiators in my personal opinion if from the factory came taller/lift kit, bigger tires, every time I see a gladiator that stock it just doesn’t look right but everyone I see that’s lifted and bigger tires they look incredible and I feel if Jeep could figure out a way to give it a little better look in that regard they would be selling, I think putting the diesel in the gladiator was a great idea, I’m hoping their sales turn around, in my area northern California it seems they are selling a lot of gladiators obviously not as much as the wrangler but at least at my local dealers I haven’t seen them sitting in lots.
Yup. They only look good with a lift and bigger tires. Looks really lame stock.
Agreed
I would say buy the slightly cheaper, Mohave Edition because it has a factory rear locking diff, do a moderate puck lift, 35s, and some KO2 BFG’s, and you are solid. If you think you need a detachable sway bar, that is a quick bolt on addition.
1000% right people gave me crap about buying one,2500 miles later they shut up when I lifted it and put 33s under it. Just a small spacer lift and the 33s look good, going bigger this year though. And I love my gladiator, they are everywhere and none sitting at dealers around here,of course my local dealer gets like 6 at a time not 40
They offer packages with lifts and tires.
I always thought the Gladiator was an ugly and odd looking truck.
Cost is still too high I don't think it is as much about reliability. I was cross shopping this with ram 1500 I got a larmie with a hemi for the same price as a mid teir gladiator
Here in the Midwest, the Gladiators are not a rare sighting, quite a few on the road and most dealerships have few if any (although for pick-ups, Chevy, Ford and Toyota dominate). The Toyota pick-ups, particularly the Tacoma, is still considered the "farm friendly" option for reliability, and the prices are $20K below the option-filled, convenience packages in other domestic pick-ups. But I do so like the Gladiators more than our 2014 Wrangler Sahara. The prices are still high here with rebates of about $3K on 2022 Mohave.
I bought one recently, but opted for a used 2021 for a couple of reasons: 1. Many of the ‘22s on the lot are missing random features due to supply chain issues, 2. Many of the ‘23s are now not including random things (probably due to cost-cutting) but the price was not adjusted down accordingly, and 3. The price has gone up so much that it’s ridiculous now. I understand inflation and all that, but when I priced out everything I was looking for, the cost of a ‘23 would have been $67K, which is getting into ridiculous territory for a mid-sized truck even if it is a cool Jeep. Instead, the used ‘21 had about 13,000 miles on it and had every single option I was looking for, including the safety packages.
I think you right it’s the price I currently own 3 wrangler really want a gladiator but the price make it untouchable or rather get a full size truck like rebel, f250
That is more than a paid for my first house, a very nice 3 bedroom brick ranch with detached garage and finished basement. Had a nice yard too, in a very nice neighborhood.
I am in Europe, for us it is totally out of our league! A standard Wrangler Sahara STARTS at 90.000$ before adding any option!!!! A gladiator starts at arround 100.000$! I ended up buying a Ford Ranger Raptor....
@@janjans0001 These prices, both here and there, are beyond ridiculous. I'm done, I have always had new vehicles, but I can no longer justify the cost. Not that I cannot afford one, but it is now down to the actual cost benefit. In my mind, a new vehicle no longer makes sense to simply get from point A to point B.
I have the pleasure of visiting many of these auto plants, been in most of them over the years, pick your brand. I see the decline in parts quality, the price cutting, the lack of pride in the folks building the cars, the offshoring of the engineering and the fact that much of the industry is more about politics and wokeness then building a quality product.
When I turned in my Chevy Silverado I took pause, and looked at what I was getting for the money and said no more. I went and found a very nice older Buick Park Avenue, paid $2000 cash for it and replaced a few wear items and did a bit of engine work, easy stuff which I did myself. The parts are inexpensive, readily available and the vehicle is pretty simple in regards to the systems.
The lockdown changed my thinking on many things in regards to finances. And I bet they do it again.
My 23’ Mojave was loaded with leather seats, leds, cold weather group, bed liner and running boards for $51900
I love my 2022 gladiator rubicon eco-diesel. Had it for 7 months and I go wheeling quite often . Iv'e had to help out people in deep ruts and obstacles when I drove through right after them with no problems. I carry equipment for different things that I couldn't fit in wrangler. It's an all around vehicle and i still get 25mpg with my 35" tires and mopar lift and it's plenty of clearance for most trails. Plenty of diesel torque when going over big rocks as well. I might even go with 3.5" lift and 37s later. It's hard to match the off-road rock-crawling capabilities of front & rear axles, electronic sway bar disconnect, front & rear lockers with any other stock truck in the similar category. It's an awesome truck if you use it for what it was designed for. Definitely not for just driving on flat roads and speed bump crawling at the mall. If you're looking for one, just go for the rubicon or the mojave and never look back.
Good write up Frankie. I’ve been interested in a Mojave, as I live in the Mojave Desert. I bet the Jeep truck would ride better than my 21 GMC AT4 Canyon. Unfortunately, my local stealership marks up jeeps $9000 added dealer markup. That and I enjoy bumming around in my 05 TJ Rubby 😂
If you're willing to wait, ordering directly from jeep is the way to go. You won't get stuck with mark ups and add ons that you didn't ask for, I wished I did that. I'd go with the Rubicon if you plan to do technical trails as Mojave don't come with swaybar disconnect and front locker. Because you can do a lift kit with adjustable shocks later for pre running to a Rubicon and you got the best of both
My diesel jt gets 23mpg if I drive sensibly thats combined on 39” KM3s. Strongly recommend you run hot shots in every tank
I have a JTDS with 37" and 3.5" lift and it is absolutely fantastic and capable.
The damned thing is wayyy too expensive and the reliability is subpar. I've seen 2023 Nissan Frontiers with the Pro4X package for under $40k.
Edit: and maybe part of the sales problem might could be is that the Wranglers are now chick vehicles. Most Wranglers I see are driven by women so the Gladiators might be experiencing a spillover effect that men don't want a chick ride.
4 door wranglers are complete chick cars. My wife had one. Mid size truck buyers are mostly men. You want a good, reliable truck. Not something to post on UA-cam about.
Yea I feel like it hurts the brand but Stellantis is raking it in so... I'm sure that's why Jeep engineers never made a four-door earlier - they wanted to keep the fanbase enthusiasm.
Where I live........remote scenic area of the Rocky Mountains...no stoplights and only a few stop signs. Jeep Wranglers and Trucks.....by far mostly Ford F250 / F350 and Dodge 2500 / 3500 trucks...for several reasons, very few Chevrolet and GMC 2500 / 3500 trucks around here. Jeep, Ford and Dodge driven by both men and women here........and 4WD gets used fairly often.....off-road on uneven terrain...some sand, but mostly mud and snow.
I personally own 2 of them, my wife has a Mojave and I have a rubicon, I’m not sure where you are but they can’t keep them on the lots, they are out selling the wranglers, we love ours they are a blast to drive, we are in Texas and we remove doors and roof and they stay that way for 10 months out of the year
My last two trucks were a 2018 Z71 Colorado with the 3.6 and then a 2020 Trail Boss LT. I’ve been driving my 2022 Gladiator Willys since May 2022 and I love it! The road manners are decent and obviously off road is fun in this thing. The ability to avg 20mpg isn’t too shabby either. With my family of five we absolutely need the truck bed for any real adventure. My only actual complaint is the weak 921 lb cargo/occupancy rating. I absolutely agree the 5.7 would have been a genius move by Stellantis.
People aren’t purchasing new cars because they’re wising up: the depreciation is egregious and untenable for most of American household incomes.
There sales definitely depend on where you live. The gladiator is selling just fine by me. However I will completely agree with you on the power train, they need to upgrade this.
I might be in the minority, but I'll take the v6 pentastar reliability vs. The hemi tick time bomb any day.
I’m all in if Jeep/Stellantis offers a V8 with a shortened wheelbase, two door with extended cab, and the option for a hard roof/top! The current truck is just too damn fugly and too damn big/long!
Ok . The trucks are too expensive. Actually tomorrow on Monday, August 9 I’m going to my dealership to buy a used jeep gladiator 2020. And I got an OK price I’m happy it’s black and black. Very cool.
Overpriced. Simple as that
The gladiator is just a hideous looking vehicle plain and simple
Down here in Texas people love them it seems like everybody's trading in their regular Wrangler and getting the gladiator. Special here in North Texas
They aren’t selling because 1. They are an expensive truck 2. Dodge reliability
2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon owner here and absolutely love it. Mine came with a factory lift and all terrains. I put 35's and a tow package on it and have been able to make so much use of it. Camping, utility, family outings, it's my favorite vehicle I've owned and, imo, very nice to look at, haha.
35's add so much unsprung weight that you will have axle/suspension issues.
@@edsloan8535 you know absolutely nothing. His jeep came with 80lbs of wheel and tire on it from the factory
Sales numbers: Ford Ranger 56,000 Chevy Colorado 73,000 Nissan Frontier 76,000 and Jeep Gladiator 77,000........so how is the Gladiator not selling?
I completely agree with the lack of hemi in gladiator. I was in the market for an overlanding truck and I considered gladiator rubi. But i need something with more power so i went with Ram 1500 instead. Had they put the 5.7 or even 392 in the gladiator I’d be a gladiator owner already
I think the 2.0t would be the best choice. The power train options are the worst.
Yea... 3.6 is very solid for the gladiator for traveling. Don't get caught up on the UA-cam fluff. You don't need a v8 in the gladiator for 'overlanding' those guys get the 392 and conversions with a heavy discount.
@@ctrlnull7228 i want a hemi because it’s the last hemi lol not the performance gain
A small V8 would have been nice
Jeep gladiator has 392 option. You can also have 4-5 hemi options. Hell, if your looking for 1,000 HP you can have that in a Gladiator. It’s called the Hellephant.
$47K for Gladiator isn't exactly a "screaming deal" there, Ben 😅. And you didn't really state how a Wrangler is better than a Gladiator.
I definitely agree with giving the Gladiator a V-8. It would also be more versatile as a hauler if it had a midgate so you can extend the bed into the second row of seats to give it more haul ability.
Absolutely! Time to upgrade the platform!🇺🇲
At that point you should just buy a full size truck… it defeats the purpose of what Jeep designed the gladiator for. If you want a compact SUV with tons of features you buy a Honda or Toyota. If you want a rough off-road rig, you buy a Jeep. The Gladiator isn’t limited by its engine, it’s limited by its size and weight and that’s a great thing off road. The gladiator already has more HP and Torque than most full size trucks from the early 2000’s that had much higher tow and haul ratings.
My ecodiesel gladiator hauls great
@@tysonvance and the gas model hauls even better… doesn’t change the point.
@traviskimbrell1209 the gas model on paper has a higher rating.... however take an ecodiesel gladiator vs a gas with maxtow with matching 5500lbs trailers and see which one hauls better...
I'm looking now in Nov 2023. Incentives? Try 15% off MSRP and I found a dealer that is matching it...along with incentifivised rates... Me < rubbing my hands together in glee as I look at a 63K MSRP 2023 and a 42K and change dealer price on a Freedom edition that checks every single box including color... AND the real reason Gladiator sales crashed? Try a Ford Maverick for half the price or a Kia Mohave or...the new Frontier and what else is in the pipeline? The gladiator was really sort of the , first of the "mid sized" pick ups. They are no cheap until they can't sell them anymore... Sure, a Maverick won't go where a Gladiator goes, but...that 20K in your pocket vs the Gladiator will sure trick one out I'm thinking... But, for me, here in MT, the gladiator is perfect. I just wasn't going to spend that much money on one with what I wanted but now??? They can't give em away apparently... But, I'll take one at 42K loaded including the steel winch ready front bumper, rear bumper, rock rails, tow package, insulated hard top, audio package, heated seats and wheel, LED light package for 42K and some change and good rates, well for right now... I can always refinance if rates go back to 3.5%.
Edit - Well, it's now the last week in 2023. And after Stellantis has, by zip code, changed the incentives over and over again ever since I first was looking. I'm going to pick one up with 30% off MSRP. They arbitrarily stopped the 15% off on Nov 15th for my zip code. They then started it up again in December. I made a deal and Stellantis then stopped it again for my zip code on December 19th. Right now there are TWO different incentive pages for Stellantis on saying I can get the 15% off and another saying I cannot... My dealer says, his system still has me as eligible. But I'm getting a loaded Freedom with a 60,800K MSRP for 42K... crossing my fingers hoping it all comes together...
Those 3L turbo diesels are awesome. Have one. So much power and 30mpg routinely. For offroading especially the fuel range is incredible, and carrying extra diesel is much more flexible as so many offroad overland camping setups have diesel fuel heaters and cooking gear. And diesel is safer to carry than gasoline..
Jeep guys buy Jeeps to go off road, why buy the ones pictured for 75-80K+ and have to put another 20K+ minimum into them before their safe for off-roading? Stock Gladiators have week Fiat engines, and the eco diesels after 50-70k miles are so carboned up, they fail. The front ends grenade the first time you take them off road, I live 15 miles from the Rubicon trail head, which I frequent regularly, and I see them being towed out with engine/transmission problems or the front came apart-grenaded. F that!
One thing that few people cover, is how amazing of a tow vehicle the Gladiator with the EcoDiesel for middle weight loads. Sub 8,500 lbs it's better then any full size. It's a 1000 lbs lighter, so it accelerates better, and gets noticeably better fuel mileage when towing then any full-size could manage. It's far more maneuverable due to it's smaller size, that's also a huge benefit to for towing. The steering ratio being higher, designed to let you make tiny adjustments when offroading, also makes it a breeze to line up to the hitch, as well as need to squeeze through tough spots (like when idiots double parking on the street you are driving down) .I went down from a Full-size Truck on purpose to a Gladiator because I know I am not towing above 8,000 and the full size trucks are a pain to park, a pain to maneuver around a parking lot etc. The Jeeps lower weight also means you get far better fuel mileage for the town and city when you're not towing. However, on the highway, well it's shaped like a brick, but towing on the highway it's still leaps and bounds better fuel mileage then any full-size truck. I recently got 17-18 MPG when towing a 23 ft open car trailer, with a 5,000 lb EV on it.
Stellantis is trying to retire the EcoDiesel, so I am sure this is why these merits are ignored. As far as missing features, mine is a 2022, I ordered it and didn't have to compromise on anything.
I have a diesel Colorado and echo all your positive points. Love my diesel Colorado but GM has killed that option sadly. It was never really advertised. Everybody says I never knew they put a diesel in those.
Agreed 100%…but my Rubicon also has max tow. Just saying not just one specific has max tow.
I have a diesel gladiator and while there’s zero chance id recommend towing 8500lbs with it (as thats a full ton of its rating) it tows my custom built off road trailer (even though its a chunky 4k with outdoor kitchen, roof for two in cabon with AC/solar, hot water etc) effortlessly everywhere, up the steepest grades and I have 39s on it.
@@kertiszman there are absolutely zero rubicons with the max tow package.
IMHO.....if they'd stop the over pricing..build the ext cab, ( 2005 prototype) ..and the talked about 2dr, ....they'd sell more than they could make.
More regular pickups now have good off road packages that make them capable and easier to live with day to day. Hemi would help gladiator sales.
Hurricane High Output 6 is more likely.
I'd still like to see a 4L V6 PentaStar. Not as powerful as the Hemi or Hurricane but simpler. It sounds like the Hurricane though is coming. It'll be a game changer.
Hemi or a turbo 6. Somewhere in the 325/325 range.
Noisy, ugly, unreliable, undesirable, overpriced, underpowered, depreciating asset. Hmmmm, why aren't they selling? Yours's for only $65K + what a deal!
We'd be interested in a Gladiator 4xe (plug-in hybrid) with Hurricane gas engine, 35 kWh battery and AC outlets like Ford Pro Power Onboard.
Such a truck sounds good but would probably be north of a $100k.
@@steven4315 yes, a lot of good high-end vehicles are over $100K these days. G-Wagon is over $200K!!!
Hybrids and EVs are not worth the extra money and are simply not practical. Moreover, EV's are not environmentally friendly......coal is used to produce most of the electricity used today...plus the harsh materials to produce the batteries...what happens to the batteries in 20, 30, 50 years?
@@15Jeep I beg to differ and love driving our Rubicon 4xe in clean, quiet electric mode, especially in all the recent snowy blizzard conditions here in Utah. Love the electrification combined with uncompromising off-road capability.
We'll pay more for a good rugged PHEV with huge heavy battery.
@@CrumResearch Hybrid is a bit different than EV....because the vehicle still has an engine to eliminate any inconveniences. EVs simply do not work well for rural people. Hybrid is a waste of money that could better be used to buy guns, utility tractor, skid loader...big greenhouses, etc. stuff we already have....but also other cool stuff for remote scenic living.
Overpriced for what you get, just like the Wrangler. The Wrangler used to be one of the cheapest vehicles on the market and now it’s one of the most expensive. With a lower price and a two door option I think the Gladiator would do much better. When I bought my 2020 Sierra SLT it was 10,000 cheaper than a similarly equipped Gladiator. As much as I like what the Gladiator can do I couldn’t justify the price difference.
Very true. Jeep NEEDS to step up their game. They NEED to make a gladiator with a 5.7 Hemi and bigger wheels. No gladiator should come with smaller than 35's from the factory. 37's should be an option. EVERYONE is changing their wheels as soon as they buy their jeep.
Bad journalism, It was never doomed to fail. Your facts are baseless and require evaluation amd better research. Pointing out one small dealerships inventory of 2022's does not represent the entire nation. Furthermore, you also haven't done any research on Jeep culture. However, journalism doesn't exist today. Opinions are pulled our of thin air and presented aa facts. Bad video, bad research, poor explanations. I give this video a 1/10.
This is a common problem for many brands, they over ordered when the market was HOT but delivery of stock was delayed due to chip shortage and ect. Now all this inventory is hitting the lots AFTER the rates have increased and people are spending less as the recession starts hitting hard. Many dealers might not survive this just like back in 2008
Let them fail. I couldn't care one bit. They were ripping customers off ALL year and only now are they worried about sales numbers. Ford Mavericks are marked up $5K in my state and dealers keep inventory VERY low to pump up the price. Every single stealership I visited had only 2-3 Mavericks on the lot but a trillion F-series trucks and all of those were marked up $9-10K. They will never make even 2/3 of their expected sales numbers for the year.
Yup and it's all the salesmen's faults, they ripped people off during Covid and now that the crisis is over customers realized they got scammed. My mom works in the office for a Ford dealer and they were selling trucks at 5-10k over MSRP during Covid, now their top salesman is barely selling 10 cars a month at one of the highest volume Ford dealers in the country... couldn't care less coming from a mechanic we all hate salesmen.
As a Ford fan thanks to my dad, I didn't get into the Jeep thing during the 70's & 80's as a kid. Probably because wanted to be a purist & to emulate my dad. Dad wasn't into them either even though he was around them during WWII. In 2008 or so I had a friend who had a 1994 Wrangler Sahara, it had a manual transmission & decided to drive it to work while I was babysitting her dogs. It rode rough, bounced all over the road, stiff as a board; rode like a hay wagon.... LOVED IT! That morning I realized why there was a following for these. It opened my eyes how fun these were. I recall Chrysler decided to bring back the round headlights on the 1996 which I think was a wise decision; Jeep's don't have square headlights.
My input on the Gladiator is it looks cool, something different & when they came out, I was finally seeing Jeeps were expanding their lineup. One thing though, what hurts the model is they didn't offer a two-door option & bring back the Scrambler. You get a Jeep pick-up with a bit longer bed. Not everyone wants a four-door pick-up they still like regular cab pick-ups. If I was in the market for a Wrangler, I would never buy a four-door I think it's sacrilegious to have a four-door Wrangler, Still don't know why there's an interest in them.
Also, what's hurting them is the cost. 64,000+ for a Jeep pick-up?!?! Ridiculious! In general, ALL trucks from all brands are getting too expensive. Who today has the funds to put 20% down on a new vehicle & pay 700-1000+ a month payment. All manufacturers are pushing leases these days cause they look cheaper, yet you don't OWN it.
I agree they need to add a V8 option to these. Maybe they don't because of the CAFE standard BS. If they have too many vehicles with low MPG, they can get nailed with a gas guzzler tax on them.
I've seen pics of prototype or concept Gladiators with just two doors, either as "regular" cabs or "super cabs" and they were tremendous.
Not sure what you drove but my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon has 38’tires with 3.5’ and ride smooth and no where near I would call stiff. Jeeps have the best resale on the market and has for decades. “Hints the price” when I bought mine which was 3yrs ago. I paid $38,500.00…now I can sell for around $50,000.00. Motors aren’t the issue. It has the best pull ratings of its class in mid size trucks. That’s one thing that was surprising people. Now you have several options if you want upgrade motors. Tell me, in the truck world how many trucks have a choice by which you can find many auto shops…you can go from V6 to with supercharger, diesel, Hemi with 4-5 options all the way up to helliphant options?
I think the amount of people that would want a 2 door is too low to bother with making one. Kinda like the manual ram cummins. I had one. Lots of people wanted them. But only 10% of the market bought them compared to the auto.
@@bobkonradi1027 You're correct; pretty bad ass!
They make a v8 option, but it cost around 6 figures
They aren’t selling because jeep is acting like they are a luxury brand. Was at my local dealership recently looking at them and a base model is over $50k, they had models of the gladiator with sticker prices of $92k! I’m sorry jeep no matter what it’s capable of is NOT worth that much money.
If I had to get a Gladiator, I would get the Mojave...that is such an awesome build from the factory and would make the ultimate overlanding vehicle.
My best and first choice would be the Gladiator Sport Willys. Gives you what you can use without all the extra fluff.
Why a Mojave and not a Rubicon???
Love my Mojave but the Sport S is the overloading pick of choice. The payload is hundreds more.
they are junk, all of the wrangler based vehicles are crap.. i owned a JL rubicon, it was constantly broken.. and not just little annoying things like uconnect issues, but also massive issues, like a clutch recall for fire, that was recalled 3 times with no fix, rust issues where pitting and paint issues on the aluminum body, or a plastic internal water pump that likes to leak, or problems with lifters coming apart., all within 36k miles..
I love my 2022 Gladiator Overland , lifted and fully equipped. I'm beyond satisfied, taken this one to the grave. never selling!
!
Lol won’t be long til it dies. It’s a Jeep afterall
Of course you'll lose a lot of money if you choose to sell it.
The original prototype had me saving and drooling with tire mounted on side. Then this 4 door family station wagon shows up. Ughh! Also if jeep is listening. The fuel injected inline six was the best engine period tork and decent mileage. Easy to work on, then you stuffed this garbage v6 into it WTF were you thinking???
I couldn’t disagree more. My 2021 rubicon was my dream truck and it hasn’t disappointed. Lifted on 37s sarge green and everybody loves it. I’ve been offered more than I paid for it multiple times. I tow my camper and boat with it and it does great. You should be doing videos on those junk broncos. 😂
Sounds like a nice rig and I agree with you to a point Shane - when was the last time you had your truck appraised? in just the last 60 days the market has really changed - offers for used vehicles have really dropped. I sold 3 cars during the craziness for more than I had paid - the most recent one I had gotten my first (in a while) low-ball - another dealer offered significantly more just in January and my old car is still unsold on their lot - timing is everything these days and unless you're willing to wait you may be unhappy. As for Broncos - I still don't see many if any sitting on dealer lots (possibly Bronco Sports but those are just boxier Escapes) but I have heard that prices are becoming "real" on those too.
@@Scotty_in_Ohio I got lucky I guess because today I checked and I gave 58 for mine and they are going for 52-58 at the jeep dealer by my house. I did buy my used after 6 months and 3000 miles guy hadn’t made payments. I always try to go that route tho let someone else eat that initial sticker. Ford dealer here still asking for huge market adjustments and does have broncos on the lot. Even tho they make the f150 here Kansas City is truly a jeep town. I live in a small lake community of 2000 and there’s at least 20 gladiators in my neighborhood alone.
I won't go near anything from Chrysler/Fiat...they do not back their product they sell...personal experience speaking
Its Scotty’s fault the Gladiators are no longer selling😂
Unfortunately, there is a huge difference in looks of a road worthy Gladiator and an off-road Gladiator. To get these things looking good they need to be lifted and fat tires which makes them very uncomfortable for the masses. Also, they get horrible gas mileage which really makes them unappealing for most people. I know the hardcore Jeep people don't care about any of that, but the masses do. If you don't appeal to the masses, they sit on the lot. Jeep needs to choose. These things are horribly unattractive in base form but beautiful in off road form. Without a doubt the most difference of any truck out there.
We love our gladiator. Way smother ride than the Wrangler. See a lot of them on the road here in the Midwest. I think it’s all in want u want and what u going to use it for. Have no complaints here.
People can't afford the Jeep Gladiator at 64 thousand dollars with a 6.8% interest rate not even with a 10 thousand dollar cut in price. Trucks are not selling because people can't afford them we don't make enough money to pay the monthly payment!
The arguments that you make against the Gladiator are valid for urban buyers. Rural buyers would purchase the Gladiator over the Wrangler due to the utility that the truck box offers in spite of the difficulties in parking lots. If jeep ever offers a 5.7 in the Gladiator, my '17 Ram 1500 will turn into a Jeep Gladiator very quickly. Thanks for the video. (My truck before that was a Mega Cab Ram.)
The gladiator is a pickup without the decent payload limit to match. Its the ONLY reason someone would buy one, to turn it into a tourer. It NEEDS a high payload
Overall you have done good points. We love ours. Especially as an adventure vehicle. The long wheelbase is beneficial in some ways though too. Even rock crawling. Have had ours for almost 3 years now and over 50k trouble free miles. And coming from an 80 series LC, the JT is a rocket!
Anything is a rocket compared to an 80 lol
I wish Jeep created an overlanding van on the Gladiator platform. Or at least make an extra long Wrangler on the Gladiator chassis. I love my DIESEL Gladiator with a Go Fast Camper.
I love my Firecracker red 22 Willys but you did have some good points. Wrangler is a bit more practical especially if you don’t use the bed often, but when you need it you remember why you got a JT! Cheers to my fellow Jeepers and if you don’t have one get one!
It’s bad at being a jeep and it’s bad at being a mini truck, it’s just for people who think they are cool
I bought a brand new Mojave in 21 coming from.a Ram1500 ,limited. Of course in 21 it was full retail. Honestly I love the truck and don't regret buying my first jeep and coming out of full size. It really came down to having a bed to haul things. And my guess most people don't need the bed snd prefer more inside cargo. Great vids Benny keep em coming.
Well I'm not quite sure where you're at and you're seeing that because I'm here in Minnesota and prices have not dropped on anything. I've got a 2020 Gladiator and went and looked at new ones and their prices they're right where they used to be. So I'm not quite sure what you're talkin about
When I was replacing my Dakota I looked at the Gladiator but it just didn’t cut it as a work truck. No extended cab or 6 ft bed option, no 2wd option, less interior room, and very pricey with ok payload/towing capacity. So I ended up getting a Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman with the Hemi for $32k, and got more truck for less $.
Meanwhile both are made by the same crappy company lolll
@@skimask5049 hurr durr
@@skimask5049idk I’ve always had better luck with the Dodge/Ram trucks.
Yeah, I don't like the looks of crew cab pickups their proportions are out of wack. For me an extended cab has plenty of room for groceries and dogs behind the drivers seat.
I think you hit the nail on the head. The gladiator isn't a bad truck. But it was built to appeal to the wrong market.
Wrangler fans have mostly stuck with the wrangler. Most people who had an interest in gladiator were interested in a midsize pickup. Dodge left a huge hole in that market by discontinuing the Dakota, and the gladiator is just too niche to fill that space.
A lot of pickup truck buyers shop by numbers. Especially those looking for a work truck. Gladiator is priced in league with half ton trucks. That's a market it simply wasn't built to compete in.
Discounts like this video mentions are a useful tool to close the sale, but there are two major problems. First the high MSRP decreased the amount of people showing up at the lot in the first place. Can't close a sale that hasn't opened. Second, deep discounts on new product drive depreciation.
So yeah, what you did was the most predictable result. Either stick with the brand you like, but get a more capable truck cheaper than the gladiator, or if it must be midsize, buy from a competitor.
Trucks in general are crazy expensive but a jeep for what they cost are nuts! There’s going to be a manufacturer or When is there going to be a manufacturer that will build a truck that does not have all of the BS on it and is affordable and reliable they would sell like hot cakes you know build the people’s Truck!
First I'll say, the 5.7 would've been great! I've owned a 2020 JTR and now a 2023 JTR. I wanted it loaded. I've lived in Utah, Idaho, Montana, and now Colorado.
When I went to order my 2023, I called every jeep dealer from north Idaho to South Utah. I can honestly say, the dealer in sandy, where he's doing the video, was by far the most over priced! I would never buy a vehicle from them!! So, it's not surprising to me they have left over stock. As many have said in the comments, it's not the case where they live. I love my gladiator! The best vehicle I've owned in my 58 years! I've done about 25 of the badge trails in my gladiator.
I'm just not a fan of how they look. I am in the market for a truck but I don't see any reasons to go for a gladiator... not very spacious, not a great work truck either.
If they didn't charge such insane prices for jeeps, they would sell. No gladiator is worth more than 50k period
Price point is too high. Sure take 10k off but it’s still not affordable to the targeted buyer. Also why buy gladiator when I can buy full size four door truck?
I was in the market for a smaller truck last year and was looking at the Gladiator, Tacoma, and Ranger. After just seeing the price of each, I knocked off the Gladiator from the list. I ended up with a Tacoma because a TRD Offroad for almost 15k less (when you add a hard top, lockers, and markups on Gladiator) and Toyota has the reputation for reliability.
It just does not appeal to me. One the truck bed is to small which defeats the purpose of a truck bed. You cannot put large items in it. The second the rear seats, is this supposed to be a family vehicle? They would be better off getting rid of the rear seats and using the space for the bed. Which would make it more like a Comanche.
I love my 22 mojave. I actually traded my 2018 JLU sahara and have zero regrets. Lots of great prices out there right now that people should be taking advantage of. But I'm sure those interest rates with good/great credit is still sitting at like 6%-9%+ APR, which is ridiculous.
The automotive industry is collapsing now because of the economic decline of the world economy. The economy is just catching up with reality now. My advice is for dealerships is to market the repairs instead because for some time people will need their automobiles repaired.
Very expensive, unreliable, and so so off-road capability…..Junk!
C-frame and aluminum bed in Tacoma, how many bed stiffening options in the aftermarket for gladiator? Zero, why? Because it doesn't need it! Also the Gladiator tows way more with its tow package than you can with the Tacoma.
All they would need to do is give us hemi options and also make a 2 door version.
Why? The Hemi will be gone and 2 door trucks are the least desirable cab configuration.
Short wheelbase pickups have been phased out do to CAFE regulations. Plenty of people would buy them if they were available. Same with sedans and station wagons. Not everyone wants a crew cab pickup with a almost useless tiny bed.
@@kenwilliams4086 nope. Regular cab pickups accounted for less than 3% of total sales. Extended cabs account for about 14% of total sales. I advise you don't post on this topic because the inconvenient truth doesn't support your dribble.
2 door pickups are cool. I wouldn't hesitatate to buy a 2 door Gladiator like Jeeps J6 concept. The 4 door, with the tiny bed, is way too long for my use.
@@skiptheroad and you are such a small potential demographic the manufacturer will not even attempt to placate you.
It’s too damn expensive. They are Awesome Looking trucks but not for 50 grand.. no way!
Funny. I’ve seen more gladiators the last 6 months here in the Atlanta area than I have since I bought mine in June of 2021. I frankly also think the 3.6 pentastar is actually pretty quick and capable for what it is.
I’m in East Cobb and in the past 6-8 months I’ve seen a lot more. I mean dozens more!
Remember the new world calls for half the population we have now by 2030 and electric vehicles for total control of the people. You will have two options for vehicles in five years.
I drove top trim when they first came out. I really liked the overall ride and drive.
Imo gladiator looks better/tougher. Like a war truck. Especially with a lift and bigger tires.
The Gladiator only works with certain packages. The Mojave is something you cant get in a wrangler. A diesel rubicon is in high demand for the overland crowd. You definitely hit the nail on the head!
I agree. The Gladiator is a compromised off-roader. And it’s a compromised pickup truck.
I came from a Wrangler to a Gladiator. I absolutely love it! ❤. It goes everywhere my Wrangler went and takes some much more stuff and tows more. #JTRSPARTACUS
In the East Tennessee market, The dealers were adding 5 thousand above msrp with no incentives When I bought my 2020 and the 2021s were just coming out. I drove one and wasn't impressed with the handling on regular roads, the road noise, and the hard feel it had on regular roads. It is meant for farm and rural in my opinion. I got a Honda Ridgeline instead and I will have to say its the nicest truck I have ever owned.
I really looked into replacing my 2000 tj with a gladiator but until they come out with a two door or extended cab version and a minimum 7ft bed I can’t justify the cost and way way higher insurance cost. Plus all the unnecessary doodads and unnecessary gadgets make it a maintenance nightmare (every heated seat, camera, computerized crappola is just something waiting to break)
The gadgets may last 25 to 30 or more years...or maybe never break. Even IF the gadgets do break....in most all cases will not prevent operation of the vehicle. Trucks......I buy Ford F350...Lariat (mid trim level) with some options. Ford trucks have the same drivetrain (except engine options) regardless of trim level. Jeeps are different.....so, I purchase high end trim...Rubicon because of the heavier drivetrain components and not necessarily for the gadgets.
Him: Complains about the cold
Also him: Drives about with the sunroof open. 😐
My '21 Glad Rubi Diesel has been over the Rubicon Trail twice as it's in my backyard along with every other challenging trail in NorCal. They do not sit on lots out here, but instead sell very quickly. I had one of the first big and well built JTs in my area and now there are many built Glads in my town. Its a great truck for overlanding and running serious trails with my wife and kids.
I have a 21 diesel as well. Nacho in color helps but if runs 39s easy and is mega capable. Breaks necks everywhere i go lol. Ive done rubicon all over moab big bear and now il doing some hi speed stuff with the trailing arm/ori/portal axle setup. I can carry speed better than a factory Raptor on lots of stuff.
Mega impressed and imo one of the finest powertrain pairings of any vehicle.
May go to 42s if I can figure out a way to make the motobuilt bed work with the ORI struts.
for me its the lack of a shorter wheelbased two door version. Then again I just really want a modernized comanche.
You know I'm actively looking for one for my wife the biggest issue with the 2022s and the 2023s is standard equipment as far as safety is concerned meaning blind spot etc. Jeep needs to have more standard equipment to attract more buyers as well as what you said with more engine options.
The Gladiator does have bling spot and other safety measures. The reason they are not standard equipment, because a lot of people dont want that equipment on their vehicles, like me.
Available Blind Spot Monitoring uses radar-based sensors to detect other vehicles and can alert you if one is traveling in your blind spot zones.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop
Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking
Available Rear Cross Path Detection
How I completely understand that I just think it would help also not only for me trying to find one for my wife. It would also help with the reason that Jeep has one of the largest stock of inventory in the country left over from 2022. If you make that stuff standard and have switches to turn it off I think you could come to a conclusion for the best of both demographics.
@@shaultsyk1097 I look at this video as a single location, not the nation. In my area of Georgia, we dont have a lot of vehicles left over from 2022. If you want specific things on a vehicle that most people dont, then you should place an order for that vehicle instead of expecting the maker to build vehicles with those features when not many want them. The options are available.
Gladiator doesn't sell because it is ugly, way overpriced, and not that capable!!!
I loved the black Mojave I test drove. However, the dealership was just a bit too proud and lowballed me on my (very nice) trade and acted offended when I told them there was too much money on the table.
Can get a Tacoma for half the price and still off road with it
And it’ll last 5x longer than anything from Jeep (FCA).
So many people clamored for a rebirth of a Jeep pickup, but the Gladiator is nothing like the Comanche. I agree stuffing a Hemi in would help. Doing a hellcat or 392 would really help imo, but my issue with the Gladiator is the lack of a 2 door model. Yes, 2 door trucks don't sell as well, but this is a lifestyle vehicle, and the die hards have been asking for it. Jeep has even teased the idea. So 2 fewer doors, and a better departure angle, and I think it would do well with the right crowd. The Gladiator as is is just too long for the trail and looks off proportionally. Shortening it up I think would add a lot of appeal.
Agreed.
Well, let me see, too long to be of real use as 4x4, too weak to tow, can't be used as a pickup truck with that tiny box, not good on gas, what is not to like! Lol
Thanks for covering this. I agree on the powertrain holding it back for a long time. I love the 3.6L in my 2014 Rubicon Wrangler, but it only makes its power when you hit high RPM's and it sounds REALLY unhappy at those high RPM's. When they finally offered the diesel option, their timing was terrible (because they finally made my dream truck and I was too borke to buy it at the time.)
Then a couple of things happened:
1) Stories of problems with the eco diesel were coming around in large numbers (why the holy heck did they not use a Cummins engine instead of that for their light duty line-up)
2) I got one for a work road trip and found the seating position was horrible! I am admittedly built pretty odd (6 feet tall, but with a really tall body and relatively short arms and legs), but I just could not get enough room between me and the wheel to feel good for a long trip and my head was poking through the "roll cage". I read some companies actually make aftermarket seat brackets to try to address some of these issues, so I know its not just me.
Even with those issues, I still would rush our an buy one (and just get a LONG term extended warranty and aftermarket seat brackets) if only I was not already paying for 2 other new Jeeps for my family. I also heard they were planning to stop production of eco diesel equipped ones at the end of last year, but am not sure if that actually happened?
I am kind of surprised that Daimler Benze ->Fiat Chrysler -> Stellantis never tried a factory supercharged Pentastar for Jeep and Dodge/Ram trucks. My thought is that instead of wasting money on the run/stop, they could have taken the 3.2L version of it they developed for the China market (the one used in the Cherokee for a while) and added a supercharger and anything that would require for durability and BOOM, better gas mileage and gobs of low-end torque.
They use the EcoDiesel engine because it's made by a Stellantis subsidiary. The diesel engine they should've used is the Cummins R2.8. I don't know if that would've required a heavy financial investment in safety testing and so forth, though.
They obviously already have a strong business relationship with Cummins. However, I'm sure the choice was ultimately made by the bean counters.
Chrysler actually had a turbo version of the 3.6 designed, but they never made it. That would have been a much better option for the US market.
I want a 2 door gladiator, same frame length as a 4 door jeep wrangler. Why not make it available as a special order?
Gladiator should have been a 2-doors with a large panoramic sunroof. Also, if it's going to be an alternative to other trucks it needs to offer all the same creature comforts and technology that other trucks offer. AND, I agree, I was hoping for the V8 from the beginning!
Like the original Gladiator! I completely agree.
No. They wouldn’t sell any two doors.
The market for a 2 door JT Gladiator would be minuscule. Would not be profitable to build.....very few units would sell.
@@15Jeep @wyo_garage That is debatable but I would say that sometimes you release an enthusiast vehicle that is just meant to support the brand in the minds of its current and potential customer base. Like the GR86 for Toyota.
@@kingsleyzissou5881 No, there is zero debate. Two door trucks simply don’t sell, this isn’t 1993 anymore. Jeep builds enthusiast vehicles, they are called Wranglers and Gladiator is built off of that. Their entire brand was built off an enthusiast vehicle…TJ was the first to really cater to non-enthusiasts, those folks that wanted a good capable rig that was easy to live with. YJ and CJ were and are too unrefined for most people. And Wrangler has consistently been watered own to appeal to the masses; four doors, leather, NAV, sound systems, heated seats, etc. Yeah they’re still capable but an entirely different breed of capable.
The Wrangler and Gladiator are expensive, and due to dealer mark ups over the last couple of years and high interest rates, no one can afford to trade out of their current car
Mid-size truck with a full size truck price. Yes it’s unique but the price makes you question which way to go. I personally hope to get one next year once my current car is paid for. Always a huge fan of the Scrambler and that was a dream car for me, so I’ll buy one of these next year to get that concept. But, I’m still researching full size because of the price difference.
Not enough cargo space. I had AMC Jeep J20, beautiful truck.
I’m a Mojave owner, better ride than my previous Wrangler, practical for hauling everyday stuff, more engine options makes sense but still worth ever Penny
The gladiator is by far the ugliest vehicle on the road. And it comes with jeep u reliability
The Gladiator is a fantastic truck that is awesome for overlanding and general offroading. They are a great buy. They have MUCH better payload capacity than Wranglers and 6G Broncos.
