Lentil Soup - Shorbat Ades

  • Learn to make this super healthy middle eastern lentil soup (aka Shorbat Ades); an easy and flavoursome soup infused with the super spice turmeric. This lentil soup is available amongst many middle eastern cuisines including Turkish, Lebanese and Egyptian. Today we’re making the Iraqi version.

    INGREDIENTS
    1. 1.5 cups red lentils
    2. Olive oil - around 9 table spoons
    3. 1.5 teaspoons of salt or to taste
    4. 2 teaspoons of stock powder
    5. ½ a teaspoon black pepper
    6. ½ a tea spoon cumin
    7. 1.5 teaspoons turmeric powder
    8. ½ a teaspoon curry powder
    9. 1.5 L boiling water
    10. 1 large white onion
    11. 2 rolls of vermicelli noodles
    TIPS:
    • If your soup is too thick, add more boiling water, If your soup is too thin cook for longer and allow to thicken.
    • Always cook your lentil soup on a medium-low heat, any higher and it may boil over or start burning at the bottom of the pot.
