Alice pack modifications explained

- Hey guys, had a couple of blokes asking about what kind of pack I'm running with at the moment and thought I'd give you all an overview of the modifications I've made to my Alice pack.
There are hundreds of modifications and alterations you could make to your pack, all depending on your style, your job, and your mission. The important thing to keep in mind is to maintain a healthy ratio between usability and effectiveness.

Hell yea man! Got mine issued 15 years ago and it's still going strong
Good stuff u should do a video with in the trenches with cas every one will benefit more from both of your experience
that's a great idea
I'm using the malice pack. It takes a beating and keeps going. Tactical will replace damaged gear if damaged in line of duty. Awesome pack.
Bunnings pride mate and would love a vid on how to paint ya pack. Keep up the great vids mate
Second on the art skills video.
Pretty sure you can fit one of the mystery ranch nice frames to normal alice packs, they're supposed to be really good (expensive though). Worth checking them out
Good video. I’m always looking for ways to upgrade my ALICE gear. I love my ALICE ruck.
Hey mate, nice pack, I have a very similar one that was gifted to me from an SASR soldiers who also modified and customised it
Looks like a "Woodland Camo" design that was used by the US Army in the 1984 to late 1990's era. In the late 1990's and early 2000's the switched to A "Digital Camo" design and recently changed again to an updated "Digital Camo V.2" (not the official name but you get the point). Hope that helps.
I agree, as for a name I was gonna title this: Wobbly Woodland. My ALICE is a late cold war era edition and looks pretty similar just without the yellowy bits. Totally agree with NoDuff though. Humans are pattern seeking animals and you do want to change from "issue" camo, we come to recognise it.
My grandpa always said before he passed away was "the best scope you have is iron sights, eyes and good aim, they never need batteries or to be sighted in if you know how to use them" he was a Korean war veteran and the wisest man i ever knew...i would like to know how you painted the pack to last that long what you used and the process i'd greatly appreciate it
ill take sights over irion sights any day. your grandad is a .....
@@JONNY_RICO69 sights over iron sights???
What are you trying to say?
You sound like an ignorant troll, are you?
@@JONNY_RICO69and anyone with iron sights will lick your ass while your batteries run out and your lenses fog, enjoy spending $500+ on something that's never going to make a difference.
That was very informative ,I use both my packs for for carrying camera gear as well as over night stuff , The amount of pockets used, stops hunting for gear just when you need it .There must have been millions of $ in R&D in this pack $100 is nothing to pay ,almost disposable!
Great vid , any chance of a comparison for the ILBE ?
Still got mine! Still packed and ready to deploy- Since 30😮APR75.
Do a video on your belt kit (webbing) .
How’d you put that pouch on the lid?
So, yeah, let's see your paint techniques and actual paint you used. Please. 😊
What kind of other gear do you guys use over there and are you still using this pack?
How did you camouflage your bag like that?
did you get the up side pouch idea from the SADF recces? as their old bergen had the same idea regards
How did you paint it?
Nice, I'm rocking a small ALICE with an internal bucket base and my sleep system underneath. I really like the upside down lower side pouch mods and the back to front "brain" pouch switch. (don't know if I'd make the lid detachable though) Hmmm... I might have to do some sewing. Thanks for the video
What kind of paint did you use?
Barrel locks are great for boot laces too, takes 2 seconds to tie up your boots
Just tried that out today bloody great tip mate.
I kinda want to see your pack up close.
Did Tactical Tailor do the upside down pouches for you, or did you mod them after you got the pack?
You forgot to link Tactical Talor mate, sory to be a stickler, just thought you should know..
I'd rather someone pick it up than look like an idiot haha thanks mate.
What is the Australian Army using now? Is it a basic MOLLE pack or a modern day ALICE? The US military still uses the ALICE pack in small numbers but unfortunately, they've replaced the metal frame with plastic. There are so many versions that I've lost count because the frame kept cracking under the weight and some troops complained that it was too wide or too narrow for their backs. I think the military should seek middle ground: have an ALICE style mounting system with MOLLE pouches and zipered sacks that lash together on the frame.
Another great video, I love it. I actually didn't mind the Kapooka issued style pack, just would of liked to have put a frame on it. Fairly sure I'm using a land 125 but there are some mods I'd like to make too, I do like the look of platatac's Alice pack so that's what I'm considering.
Very informative and I'd love to see your method of painting your duffcam! aha, also wouldn't mind asking about your webbing set up for a belt rig vs chest rig.
I reckon the Land 125 packs are great, I'd strongly consider spending time and effort improving that rather than forking out for another pack from Platatac.
Lobi Meneses I do like it, I just haven't used it enough to learn how to optimally operate with it. I've mostly used Kapooka style, one issue I have with it is the lack oc an external ET pouch to fit an entrenching tool, so that's a pouch I'll need to place on it somehow. Plus when I put my water in externally I have limited pouches spare, I need to find a good spot to put rats in. I just still need to adjust it of course, which is why this video is excellent but most pouches are sewn on
Sown on pouches are very unfortunate in my opinion, allowing very little in the way of mission-specific customisation. The Kapooka issued packs have two terrible (in my experience) sewn on pouches to the sides.
The issued LAN 125 pack should have pouch for your ET that can either be modularly zipped onto the side of the pack or fit snuggling down the centre rear pouches. Does your pack have the modular zips on the sides? If not it might be the standard issue kapooka pack.
I didn't make it clear, I've got the Kapooka and a LAN125 pack which I bought off a mate a while ago. It didn't come with an ET pouch but theres space for one to be mollied up in the centre, and it does have the zips on the sides. I'm planning on using it more this year
Do another update please
Could use a bit of heat shrink over the zippers instead of tape.
Medium Alice for life.
That camo should be called jungle striper. Because the spray paint(?) Caused a striping look. And those remind my of the jungle camo and not quite woodland colors.
use the hip belt, all the weight is supposed to be on your hips.otherwise you'll have back problems when you get older.
That's it! This is the best mod you can do right away to this pack. Alice is OK, but it was designed to be used with a lot of other things, you would have to carry on the front... Still, weight should be placed around the hips (where you have your trousers, more or less). Exapmlpe from my expreiance: Alice L with full load (around 45kg), 50 km done on coast in 30c heat (wind, salt, sand, sweat), by the sea. My lower back was schreaded by sand... Not really cool thing to experiance I tell you. I'm 184cm so maybe for smaller guys Alice L is OK, but for me it was a big and unnecessary pain, and damge to my skin.
Mate, I sse what you're saying, but... If you're ADF you'll have back problems when you get older. End of.
I'm amazed you're able to use your own gear! Not that way in the U.S..
Uh I’m allowed to use my own gear 🤷♂️
$700 to $1000?!?!?!
I bought my authentic lc2 for $35 with frame and all straps and pads intact. I've had it for longer than I can remember and it is still good as new.
Duffcam
Sub! gr8 vid m8
700$? I got one for 40$
Anyone else hear that 700 to a thousand dollars on a new pack... boi what is the post War Germany money or what??
Micah Frye, buddy issued packs are absolute dog shit most dude will make a small one time investment to give long term comfort and ease of use.
The Aussie Flecktarn paint job is very nice.
why would you spend $700.00 to $1000.00 on a $35.00 pack??
Where you finding a tactical tailor for $35?
Find a room with a bit more echo in it.
This video is shadow banned
Wdym
did you painted your ALICE, come on maaan.
the color is ugly¡¡¡¡¡¡....
It's not a fashion parade mate.
@@akadacat Isn't it better to use a rain cover of the camouflage you are using at that moment?...or a camouflage net?...if it's A.l.i.c.e olive green, fine, and if it's A.L.I.C.E. woodland from the factory well .... but painting it does not look very pretty to say
@@royalwinner1978B Er, actually no. For a start a raincover (in whatever pattern is trendy in the moment) negates most of the very real improvements that NoDuff provides here.( inverted side pouches and "brain" top pouch, etc) because with a rain cover on you can't access the pack AT ALL whilst yomping. Plus, there's an increased noise signature from a pack with a rain or poncho cover and it just gives you another item to police -so that it doesn't snag or get dropped. I'll stick to my earlier comment: It ain't a fashion show mate. Pretty doesn't matter to me or many others on this page, Pretty is for people who get seen.
@@akadacat You're right, it's not a fashion show but a poncho or rain cover is practical and useful rather than a hindrance. I'm telling you as a Chilean marine that I was for many years, the weather here is extreme...if your climate is calm It is understood that it is not practical.....
