    This makes the most sense of any sailing boat I’ve seen. I hope this concept catches on!

    One of the best executions of a front internal cockpit and general internal layout. With the ability to use the tiller for the "feel" of sailing. Makes so much sense for cruising with speeds matching racing yachts. Simply years ahead of its time but time is now coming! I hope you sell loads 🙂

    Great design. Internal cockpit, geat for stormy day. But i wonder if there is an accident on the sail, isn't it will difficult to move to go to outside. Is there any door direct to bow/front outside of this boat?

      Its also a good place to get away from the tropical sun... you can fit reactive tint films or glazing .? Plus you can open the windows to achieve full throughflow ventilation.
      I dont know if the R550 is fully insulated but it should be a standard feature on Cruising and live aboard boats as it works both ways and reduces the energy requirements of any vessel.

    • @donaldvanvliet9039

      @@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665insulation makes the boat heavier hence less performance…strange that they didn’t even put up curtains or shutters or something in saloon…not only hot but als bit of a fish bowl effect.

      I understand your position but good insulation doesn't need to be heavy and in many catamarans and monohulls it can take the form of structural core foam which in the majority of catamarans also acts as permanent buoyancy even if totally flooded.
      Having to run AC or heating represents a significant energy load on any vessel so yatchs that are E powered or hybrids naturally should be designed to be as insulated as might a high latitudes or 4 season live aboard explorer vessel .
      Good passive ventilation and
      Blinds, reflective or reactive films are a simple light way of controling energy gain or loss given the normal single glazing units on boats.
      As for being in a goldfish bowl ... i agree but some people live in glass fronted houses and dont seem to bother 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂
      Some Dutch Scandinavians Germans etc ... Lol.
      In initial tests reports blinds were one of the items listed as recommended as standard.

    Broadblue Rapier 550 always my favourite.. it’s even better if it have hybrid propulsion system option

    • @markjarvis4056
      @markjarvis4056 Рік тому +3

      Broadblue has been producing Diesel Hybrid sailing catamarans since 2009 and the Rapier 550 was designed from the ground up as a hybrid.
      The port service area, accessed from the aftdeck, has a main diesel engine with hybrid drive solution attached to it and the starboard drive is entirely electric. This solution allows all electric drive as long as the batteries last but with the back up of diesel should more range be needed. The diesel engine can operate also operate as a 10kw genset, if needed but the props can drive either or both electric motors in regen mode producing upto 5kw after each prop shaft.
      I hope that answers your questions?

    One of things I LOVE about this design and some of the Rapier’s I’ve seen is that they don’t have an outside sitting area. Yes, I love sailing, but I’m not the sort of person to sit outside for a meal. How revolting - to fight with the wind and weather while trying to eat. Please, give me a break! This means outside seating is a waste of space for me. As a writer and someone that works remotely, I need a nice indoor area where I can work. That’s far more important than sitting in the rain to have a sandwich. The 550 is a tad big for me, but I love the concept! - and please keep making these great videos.

    Love the boat…it was/is ahead of its time…couple of questions :
    - why the anchor at the foot of the longeron and not at the end? Doesn’t that make anchoring more difficult? Does the boat move over the anchor while swinging?
    - placement of liferaft? Isn’t it hidden behind the dinghy in an emergency?
    - where do you store food and provisions?

    • @broadbluecatamarans
      @broadbluecatamarans  9 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for your question @donaldvanvliet9039
      R550 anchor position
      The anchor is positioned where it is to reduce the weight forward and help reduce pitching. Keeping the anchor and all the chain weight as close to the centre of pitch reduces the tendency for the boat to continue pitching and improves the performance by reducing lost energy.
      All modern catamarans without a solid foredeck must use a bridle to transfer the anchoring loads into the bow and so once anchor is deployed, a bridle is set and there’s no discernible difference in the swinging of the boat at anchor.

    You might like to invite the Barefoot doctors channel to take a look at one of these.
    The other area where these might evolve is to use Basalt in place of Carbon fiber.

    Being new to cruising catamaran niche, this review was striking. It appears this vessel was reviewed 8 years ago. Is it possibly true? Regardless, this is an appealing concept. I think I “get it” .

    should have hired a copy writer with familiarity of the sailing world to help you better get your message across, shit talking other boats to make yourself look 'better than' is not the way to go about it, especially not in 2023, and especially when other brands orderbooks are doing the talking. And I am referring to boutique semi custom brands, not production boats.
