- The all new HH52 is an evolution of our Morrelli Melvin designed, award winning HH50, which we have reimagined with electrification in mind and two different helm options. Owners can specify either aft swing helms or a forward cockpit with optional tiller chairs. Regardless of which design you choose, this yacht brings the very latest design features and performance improvements to our mid-size luxury cruising catamaran.
The HH52-OC is roughly the same price as an Outremer 52, meanwhile a full carbon HH52-SC is considerably cheaper than a Balance 526 or Kinetic KC54. As of today, hulls are still available for a 2026 delivery. For a detailed information packet, please contact us here:

I build catamaran kayaks. Have been since 1980's. I graduated from Utah State with an airplane mechanics and pilot license in 1955 and an Industrial Eng. degree at Cal Poly in 64. (along with Bert Rutan). My boats are 16 feet long and 40 inches wide with asymmetrical hulls. Empty weight is 70 pounds. They have six sealed compartments with deck plates so they are virtually unsinkable. I think they will sail well because as the wind hits the sail and tilts the hull, it tends to turn into the wind. Lessons learned, buoyancy and hull design are the key to speed rather than frontal area. I have a new idea for applying electric or engine power. Maybe we could have a discussion if that does not violate your security. I am 88 years old and my ideas have overrun my energy

I recently crossed the Pacific on a catamaran. One of the worse things was having to go forward and getting hit by a wave. Not that it was dangerous, but on that boat in the damp and fog it meant that your gear was going to be that 'greasy' saltwater damp for three to five days. (If you hung it on the back deck, it would be wetter after a few hours than when you hung it up.) If the boat had a way to dry foul weather gear (and dehumidify the whole boat) then forward cockpit - great. So I think drying and dehumidifying should be comprehensively addressed. And HH is probably the builder who will tackle and solve this problem.
And how soon will there be remote steering and engine control so you can take your 'controller' to the rail on the side you're docking? Someday?? HH in talks with Tesla to come up with autodocking... in strong winds.
We already have the DockMate option on our price list. You can indeed dock from anywhere you wish, or pick up a mooring easily with one person doing all the work! As for dehumidifying the boat, we have over 50,000 BTUs of AC and Dehumidifying power aboard. We also install fans in the bilge areas to regularly move the air to prevent mold and moist smelling areas. This boat should stay quite dry! Thanks for commenting.
After seeing the layouts of the forward helm version i would bring the port stair back and include a proper internal desk instead of the extra couch space oterwise you guys have a winner.

found you thru Gone with the wynns. Love your design. Was it on a test sail with Sailing la Vagabonde they broke one of the chairs on the rail? It looks like the mount is redesigned to a two-point mount. Good upgrade.
I have been watching sailing videos, it amazes me how slow the build is after ordering, such as the "Wynns" "Vagabond" and others
Both the Rapido and our boats are built by hand, over tens of thousands of man hours. The entire marine industry has seen supply chain issues as well. Good things take time! Hang in there, the Wynns boat is getting close and they have a ton of cool content coming soon!
I like everything, especially the skipper position. But the entire front should be done as in Bali (doors and mattresses).

oh dear god i need $10m to buy this boat and 5 years of round the world independence. after that i'll scrub the sewers, I promise.
One thing I would consider is a tiller bench like the newer Outremer designs. The tiller is great, but with the chair a bit anti-social. Being able to share the pleasure of "riding out" would make it even better.
We looked at a bench and we like what Outremer did for living on anchor, but we became worried about safety underway. In the end preferred a chair with two arm wrests that help lock you in place over a bench that is not as safe.
Gorgeous boat, can't wait to see one in person in the next year or so! Just a note, it should be less expensive than a Kinetic or 526 as it is a significantly smaller boat at the waterline and beam. The HH55 is more of the same size competitor to those boats you mentioned in the video description. Cheers!
Yes, the Kinetic KC54 is roughly $1m USD more than the HH52 starting price and our HH55 would be significantly larger than the Outremer 52 and Balance 526 (although the Balance does have a 2.5 foot wider beam). It should be worth noting that all HH Catamarans are designed to extend their LWL when the leeward hull is depressed and they ride above the water considerably in the bow and stern while at anchor, so comparing specs is not always a good indicator of the yacht. @@HHCatamarans Yep, understand, I'm just talking about livability and storage, its really important to spend time aboard these cats to really understand the differences. All of these boats are plenty fast enough, you spend most of your time on passage trying to slow them down & manage speed. There's no doubt the new 52 is going to fly! Currently writing this using Starlink comfortably sailing at 14knots in 18 true rounding Columbia, performance boats are definitely the way to go🙂

I remember watching a video from about 12 years ago of a young man and his new bride sailing their 38’ Lagoon in this same area having a hell of a sail & having to go bare poles. Thankfully we are more in the champagne sailing mode on this passage, cheers!
I like the forward cockpit and the aft outboard seating. I’m not sure about the tillers though. They take up a lot of space. Would there be an option to have the tillers removable and allow rudder control through the electronic display mounted at the outboard chairs? The ideal of tillers I understand however I think the physical effort to control the boat that way would grow tiring and having them protruding onto the steps would be a nuisance. I wouldn’t mind a dual chair option as well so two people could sit side by side while sailing.
Certainly, a lot of thought has gone into the design of the boat and compromises are always made .
The tillers are an option so you can get the forward helm and chairs without the chairs, or you can remove the tillers when not in use. You could then use the autopilot remote control to drive the rudders. Thanks for commenting!

A forward cockpit gives you great access to the foredeck, you already have great access to the aft deck. Why have side decks? Why not widen the salon and have greater internal space? There could be steps leading up the coachroof from the foredeck or the aft deck. A problem I can see is that you would want stanchions and a rail on the coachroof, it might foul the boom and you wouldn't want to raise the boom to clear them.
You could remove the side decks, but it becomes useless space inside the salon as you cannot reach over the ledge to get to the windows. Overall we hope our design uses every square inch (or cm) to the best possible extent! This is the beauty and the challenge of yacht design. Thanks for commenting.

Very nice! -- QUESTION --- I understand that HH is primarily focused on performance, and that is understandable since performance permeates the most important characteristics of a Catamaran. However, for those of us that are increasingly leaning toward long distance cruising and live aboard, we are looking for more attention spent in that general area. Is it possible to provide more current updates on models designed primarily for circumnavigating? I may be wrong, but isn't the market moving in that direction?
Hi Coleen, our boats are first and foremost designed as bluewater cruising boats. We could strip out the luxury and make them pure race boats, but we are really aiming to build a "no compromise" boat where you get great light wind and upwind sailing performance but also a very comfortable home on the water.
Features we believe that should not be added to a bluewater cruiser are 1) flybridge features that eliminate sail area and increase stress on the rig with a higher center of effort and 2) structures forward of the mast like athwartship berths or sofa seating that require a wider hull surface area at the bow, creating less efficient hull shapes, and 3) wide hulls that allow for walk around bunks and more space down below (also creating inefficiencies). Many boats like the Lagoons, Leopards, FPs and Bali catamarans are really considered coastal cruisers. Sure you could sail them around the world, but the structures are not designed for the stress of this type of sailing and you should plan to do a lot of motor sailing in light air or if you need to go upwind. This is not the case with a well designed Bluewater catamaran like an HH.

@@HHCatamarans ..interesting. I agree with your three points now that I properly considered them. We were certainly not looking at Lagoon, Leopards etc.. I feel that HH is more like an Outremer but lighter and faster, and intentionally lighter and faster. Whether that makes it a better circumnavigator is, at this moment, unclear. We are watching with interest the youtube channel "Cat GreatCircle" and their current rally around the world in an Outremer 55. I note that they have had significant damage due to light collisions or rudder impacts. The sail drive did them no favor. I wonder if HH is built even more lightly and would be subject to even more damage in the normal course of things. I guess this is the great dilemma in proper boat design: weight, hence speed vs strength and resiliency. Getting that one right is everything.
Hi Coleen, great questions! The Outremer is a great boat, but if you were to compare it to an HH we can be proud to say we build a far stronger boat due to our extensive use of Carbon Fiber (lighter and stronger = more performance and safety).
All HH boats use massive amounts of carbon fiber in the structural areas of the hulls (our SC models are 100% carbon) with Epoxy resin, which is the strongest/hardest/most expensive "glue" that bonds the fibers together. Meanwhile the Outremer is a 100% fiberglass hull that uses polyester resin (the cheapest/weakest resin) in their builds. Furthermore, the HH "SC" models use Daggerboards that are Pre-Preg Carbon Fiber (Outremer are Fiberglass) and even our rudder stocks (the rudder posts) are 100% carbon fiber. We do not use Saildrives (which are prone to corrosion and damage while sailing) and we use stronger shaft drives instead.
If you are looking for a stronger bluewater catamaran, we would suggest you look at the carbon fiber boats available in the market. Hope that helps!
@@HHCatamarans ..If you keep speaking like that, I may fall in love! One last issue re: fiber glass vs carbon fiber. I read that carbon fiber is, by volume, actually heaver than fiber glass. However, due to its comparative strength advantage, less of it is needed to accomplish the same function as fiberglass. Thus the reduced volume of material leads to reduced weight in its application. What was pointed out, if I read it correctly, is that the weight is less but the comparative strengths were the same - manufacturers simply use less carbon fiber to reach the engineered strength normally assured by fiber glass - but rarely exceed that engineered strength. It seems, from your statements, that HH is actually using the fiber advantage to exceed the specs accomplished by fiber glass - and that is welcome news to us. The shaft drive is excellent, of course, and your description of the rudder and its post sounds fantastic. I will look through your videos to see if they capture those features in any details. But, yes, you are certainly making a strong case for HH. We were surprised by the damage suffered by the Outremer 55. It could have ended very poorly after the loss of the rudder and failure of the dual steering unit and its impact on the rear mounted engine. The boat became uncontrollable and continued for nearly a mile along a rocky coastline before being brought to heel. Nightmare.

Those aft chairs seem to be sitting too proud of the hull and May impede when coming in to docks with poles and med-mooring tight between other boats. Is this considered in the design. Maybe the ability to draw the set in closer for these situations would be a simple solution.

Why not extend the coach roof all the way aft to maximize solar and shade?
We extended the coachroof significantly. The traveler is above the aft beam so you can see there is more solar and more protection extending aft. How far was another design decision we had to look at and we think the proportions of our final design looked the best. Thanks for the comment!
Are there engine controls at the tillers for docking?
From the center cockpit you have clear, line of sight visibility to each corner of the boat. But if you prefer, you can add our DockMate option for $1k that gives you a remote control to dock with anywhere on the boat (controlling both the electric engines and a bow thruster if you choose one). Docking has never been easier, but we do not recommend using the tillers. :)

Correct, the winches on many catamarans are exposed (Kinetic KC54, Outremer 52, Outremer 55, Balance 482, Balance 526, Gunboat 68, etc). That said, HH also offer aft swing helms on this boat that do have full protection, if you prefer that feature instead. Thanks!
I feel the average cruiser/sailor is alienated with this layout. This seems geared towards a super high performance boat, and the compromises do not mix with the performance envelope. I really dont know who the target buyer is, maybe a couple where one is a high performance type, and the significant other more cruiser?
The sweet spot seems to be a fly bridge helm or raised helm, and a forward cockpit for relaxing in the breeze.
Hi Michael, yes, that is why we also offer a traditional layout with the dual aft swing helms. The forward cockpit is definitely for the sailor that wants to feel the thrill of sailing (like on a sporty monohull) but still have the living space of a catamaran. So far the market has responded quite well to this design and four of the first nine boats will be SCF Forward Cockpit boats.
Complete amateur's thoughts: The lowered davits and its rigging should be able to at least take the increased loads from beating by the waves striking the dinghy in bad weather.(The bridgedeck clearance can't be too high on a 52) The forward cockpit "bath" should be quickly drainable through a sizable opening which should also be easily cleanable from animal remains etc. I like that it's not saildrives anymore and I like the hybrid system conceptually but the engines under the berths have kind of an iffy feel about them, at the first glance at least. Replacing an engine placed like that would probably be several times more difficult. Are berths isolated well enough from the engine compartment? Obviously they are, but still. Line drivers everywhere -- hopefully there is a backup option to route lines to some optionally manually operable winch in the case a lot of things break completely. Previously you could collect rain water from the roof -- I guess that feature is gone. The black painted roof while looks cooler is probably a bit less practical, especially in the case electronics breaks. The benefits of solar paneling the roof of course outweigh the tiny downsides in the 99% of the situations. The aft tiller chairs fold forward, but could they be fixed firmly in this position? Because otherwise I don't see anything to hold on to while climbing onto the deck from the cockpit. On the renders one can't see anything fiddle-board-like to prevent things from sliding off, but I guess those are just renders and it can be optioned in. Would be cool if one could option a sturdy, high folding chair with a foldable foot rest for the forward helm position. The fold back platforms on the 44 that close the cockpit area completely are nice to have, and do protect children/dogs, but they probably won't work for this boat. With starlink becoming available for boats it would have been nice if there was a dedicated place for mounting it in some optimal spot. With the the forward helm position it would have been nice to have lots of cameras everywhere, maybe even something like these surround reconstructed views we have in cars. Or maybe a couple of mast cams looking down. IR forward looking mast cam would also be nice.
Hello Ultra, here's a quick reply to your questions!: Yes, the bridge deck is high enough your dingy will not hit the waves; the forward pit will have large drains; the engines will have sound/heat proofing over them under the beds and opens up the aft locker for easier to access storage; all of our line drivers can be operated manually if you have an electrical failure; you can still collect rain water; the chair can be used to steady yourself while walking past it; we are mounting StarLink on the davits; we offer two types of Camera options but recommend FLIR! Isn't it ironic that in monohulls the designers did everything to move all control elements away from the mast back to the safe cockpit and now the cat guys are doing quite the opposite.

There are Pros and Cons to all designs. We will give it to Windelo for coming up with an innovative solution, but we like the security of doors with hard windows on our boat!
@@HHCatamarans I agree with the protection option, but a green wave hitting a plastic sheet does less damage to the captain behind it, than a glass door or window can. This is why Windelo has a heavy glass door protecting the salon I suspect. It’s a smart engineering solution offering a safe operating space at the front of a catamaran.
If main. helm is forward, couldn't the salon come all the way out to full beam? If you can walk through, why walk around? Perhaps a way over if needed, but the inside would be much roomier.
We considered that too! The trade offs with that design is that you cannot easily dock the boat and run forward and aft, plus the extra space would not be usable space because you need the ceiling heights down below in the hulls. But yes, good idea!

Windelo do it better, and their 54 cost half the price, sail at wind speed too and have a massive solar package and advanced hybrid drive included. At this game you are beaten! Basically, with this forward cockpit you are going back to the problem with the original Chris White design, where you have to recline into the living space in bad weather conditions and have to go back out into the elements, when you have to adjust the sail plan - and you will need to adjust the sail plan in bad weather conditions. On the Windelo they have a double forward helm position at the mast, which can be enclosed both to the bow and to the aft also, so you never need to withdraw to the living space, which also means, you do not have a compromised living space and helm, like both the HH and all Chris White designs in fact do (indoor helm has no seat and is essentially in the middle of the front of the living space!). I definitely would buy the Windelo over this, even if they cost exactly the same. But they don't!
We respect the Windelo and applaud them for their efforts (at least they offer a hybrid!), but if you want to know our real thoughts, we think their Serial Hybrid is not the right solution and they should be using our Parallel Hybrid approach with a shaft drive (same electric performance but with more redundancy, safety & power when you need it). We also offer more solar (5,800 watts!) and much faster performance in heavy air (you can push an HH much harder than you can push a Windelo which does not have carbon daggerboards, carbon crossbeam or carbon rudders). We also think they cut too many corners on interior comfort (a bit Ikea and plastic inside vs the wood, stone, carbon and glass finishes we use) and lack the closing storage we provide, which is important if you are living aboard. They are also not building out of Carbon and Epoxy and do not come with a painted PU finish and instead use gelcoat that cracks and goes hazy over time. Simply put, you get what you pay for and we do not honestly consider them a direct competitor.
The lady doth protest too much, methinks. You don't acknowledge the core design issue the Biblical guy makes. All those reasons you give are a big tell that you do consider Windelo a competitor. And price is the denominator of every commercial debate, so having a massively higher price isn't a cool answer.
And, with respect, he's 100% right. Windelo's forward dual cockpit is an elegant and function design, far superior to HH52's first crack at a forward helm. The good thing about you guys at HH is that you are open to all ideas, so my guess is that the next version of the HH52 will incorporate the Windelo design - or even something better?
Separately, I think the option of the "Outremer tiller chairs" is better executed than Outremer, but frankly I worry that with 3 steering solutions in 3 corners of the one boat and all the gear that goes with each of them, something is going to go wrong at some point, and that something is going to be an expensive nightmare to fix...
Yikes, that looks miserable in foul weather, you have to venture out into the apparent wind with spray all over just to furl the jib or reef the main? I'll stick with my little monohull where all lines are led aft to my cockpit under my dodger.
Many boat's have the same issue: Kinetic KC54, Outremer 52, Balance 526, etc all have exposed winches where you will get wet if it's raining. This is why we also offer the aft swing helm solution where you can stay dry, but as we say in the video, there is always a trade off in yacht design!
I like that there is a mid. cockpit. is ther e a way to inclose the winche area like the Windelo ? also I like the endgins and the electrial motors together. Could look in to axial flux motors. They are Lighter and smaller might need to have 2 motors togher for the horse power. Set up in a HH44-OC.
I think the biggest loss on these forward cockpit designs is, you're not outside. Stargazing on a passage and the sense of being in nature, on a blue planet is a feature of cruising. Sitting in a well lit lounge area....? That's not going to do it for me I don't think. Anyways, just a dream, but the HH44 would do me just fine.
You can always sit in the aft tiller chairs and get more sky view than ever!

The aft tiller chairs are too low the the deck in those renders - most people over 50 will struggle to get out of them! Yes to the forward cockpit, but unless you can safely operate on night watch on your own, I'd want it fully inside. BTW Seth, nice to see you have a job in the same field after your jolly ;)
We have added a handle on the coachroof so that if you have a hard time getting out of the chair you have something to pull yourself up with. Good catch though! We definitely needed something a little extra with this design.
For safety reasons, it would be perfect if it were an aluminum cat. Aluminum boats are naturally lightning-proof. Or at least have a grounded aluminum mast, which is connected to the keel by an aluminum band.
Nice boats, but the Seat Outside the Reil is a little bit stupid ...
