How To Flow Text Around An Object with Inkscape

- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how to make your text flow around objects in Inkscape without having to manually add spaces and line breaks. We’ll be using the Flow Into Frame feature, which will leave us with completely editable text that wraps nicely around any objects of your choosing.
Resource page: logosbynick.com/flow-text-aro...
The text I used in this tutorial is an excerpt from the Inkscape Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkscape

Thank you! This was very helpful. Without this it would have taken me forever to make individual rows of text and adjusted the widths.
Quality tips, as ever. And this one is timely since I'm getting ready to start a project. 👍
That's very uselful. Thanks again for all the nice tutorials!
Your content and Inkscape are awesome.
Thank! As always all clearly and correctly. Good luck to you our dear teacher !!! 👍👌🙏✌️
love your tutorials!! thank you
You’re amazing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Wonderful! I've been trying to do this for a while now.
just awesome, thank you sir
thanks nick...awesome as always..
Thanks for your creative contents!am really inspired by every single videos.
Thanks! Very helpful getting something done for a piece of content I was working on.
quality tips as always. thank you!
Great job💎
thank you
Great explanation. Thanks for sharing with us :)
You are the best, you know that. Thank you.
Simple yet so usefull. Thanks a lot (always) (y)
New knowledge. Thanks!
Very nice job! Very nice!!!
Quality tips! It helped me in starting my project!!!!!!!
great video i am always looking for videos to learn about inkscape and other opensource graphic design/2D,3D animation platforms
Nick, you are a GOD!
Every Designer should know this option. Thanks.
This is just what i needed to learn...
That looks pretty good
This is perfect... I didn't know Inkscape had that capability... but I do now. :- )
Brilliant nick
thx! nice as ever!
Sweet!
Thank you guru 👍
Excelente !!!!
So that's one grumpy Adobe Illustrator user thumbing down so far?
Love your work mate! Thanks for the tutorial.
its two now thats a shame smh
This grumpy Adobe Illustrator user can do the same with 2 clicks. When it comes to working with text, Inkscape still has a lot of catching up to do.
its 3 now
@@kala-re-pah958 We're not all independently wealthy like you. But really, why are you here if you have illustrator?
nice one 🙏
Very cool! It's been a while, but I have been busy with Inkscape. I made an interactive map of the USA, and built that into a web page that runs on an internal web server. It's pretty slick, and I owe you the credit! Have a good one.
Awesome to hear that!
Working with Inkscape 1.0 beta I was wondering why the "Justify (only flowed text)" was greyed out for me -- turns out 1.0 Text tool has "Use SVG2 auto-flowed text" option on by default. This titbit is just for future reference, since we're all going to be moving to 1.0 stable at some point.
And as always, thank you for the tutorial!
Cool!
Halloween is coming up!! Would be cool to see a stencil tutorial for the jack o lanterns. Great video as always
Good idea, I'll see what I can do with that
Hi, nick, can you do a tutorial on exporting formats for commercial printing, such as logo dimensions for signboards, posters, billboards, etc.
Thanks, nick.
Top!
One piece of advice for u:
*Never ever stop doing what u r doing right now*
cool
Hey Nick, great tutorial as always, thanks for it!
Was wondering, why does your Inkscape look like that? I have version 0.92 but your icons are different and grey. Is there a link I can follow or do I have to upgrade?
It's a dark theme for Inkscape on Windows. Tutorial here if you'd like to apply it: logosbynick.com/inkscape-92-dark-theme-windows/
Hey Nick,
first of all, I really like your videos and I learned a lot. But I´m getting to my question, could you make a tutorial how to make a Logo for a E-Sport Team, Football Team, Basketball Team or something like this, especially with an animal? A example would be the Logo aof the E-Sport Team Virtus.Pro or the Logo of the L.A. Rams. Keep going and thanks for your videos!

Love the vid!
If I could humbly offer one suggestion:
At the beginning of the video, give us an outline of the main steps (or an outline of the techniques you'll be using).
I don't know if that will cause viewers to leave your video sooner though, without watching til the end.
The master class sounds awesome. I use you tutorials in my classroom a bunch. Is there a class option for the course of is it solely by the individual?
Thanks Stephen. It's on an individual basis. You can get a 20% discount if you join my mailing list. More info here: logosbynick.com/logos-by-nick-promo-code/
@@LogosByNick Thanks, will do. Are there resources outside of your UA-cam channel I COULD use with my students? I like the idea or the logo design course, just don't want to get into something that won't help them.
Yeah feel free to share all of my UA-cam videos and blog posts with your students. By the way if you want to play the videos from my course in your class I don't have a problem with that. I just don't have a way of creating individual accounts for all of your students to sign in and watch them on their own.
@@LogosByNick Thanks for replying. I got one of the three packs so am excited to check them out.
Note, I'm using Inkscape v1.1.1, and I don't see a “Justify (only flowed text)” button anywhere. But what I did was, use the drop-down where you can align text (left, center, right, justify) and choose the last option in the drop-down which is “justify” and that worked fine!
You're insane bro...
hello LOGOS BY NICK
I have latest version of Inkscape and I can't find the option JUSTIFY (ONLY FLOWED TEXT)
HELP!!
and thanks for the tutorial.
Can you review Inkscape 1.0 please?
I don't ever recall seeing the command to spread (track) the type to fill the shape exactly being available in any other app, such as Illustrator or InDesign. DOES it exist, do you know?
Woah, you have round buttons; is it possible to theme inkscape?
With some customization, yes: logosbynick.com/new-inkscape-icons-2019/
Can you do mascot logos? Please reply with an answer if possible
one problem I encounter is that it only shows maybe a couple lines that are super spaced out no matter how low I set spacing between the baselines. I also made the text as small as 4 and still, only a line shows and it doesn't start from the top.
Anyone have any advice? The problem occurs right after the Path -> Flow into Frame
Thanks!
where is the justify text located in newer versions of inkscape
i can't see justify only float text, could someone tell me what happen? or its setting?
what exactly the Simplify comand does around 4:15?
This is really cool. Is it possible to draw a drawing using this technique? It would look cool using only points!
*translated on Google Translate
Yes, it is! You could fill in an shapes you'd like with text and come up with some pretty cool designs.
@@LogosByNick Nice!!
how did you put the extras toolbar over the standard toolbar?
Go to View > Custom
@@LogosByNick thank you
Can this be done on GIMP?
Are you using the 1.0 inkscape beta?
Not yet. I'm going to wait until it's officially released.
@@LogosByNick But, from the look of Inkscape in your video, it looked like the inkscape 1.0 beta.
For some reason my text just disappears when I select the circle that I want it to flow into. I made sure that the circle is to path and simplified. just created a new circle and pasted some text, Selected both objects, text then circle, and pressed text > text into flow. Then my text disappears.
why had my text gone after I clicked them to flow in the frame? does anybody get the same problem here?
Is it just me or the video views and comments have drastically dropped?
Any which ways great video!
Seems normal to me. My videos get most of their views over time as people search for them. Typical UA-camrs get all their views within the first couple of days after uploading. My channel is kind of the opposite of that, and it's always been that way.
@@LogosByNick That seems quite true, I just noticed. Seeing the quality of your videos, I would've expected otherwise. You always have my view, if that even makes any difference lol
It is appreciated, thanks!
@@LogosByNick me too 😁🎈
His videos are hight quality, which means that people look for them even long after they were uploaded.
Opposite to mainstream content, low quality so after the first time watching them nobody watches it again nor recommend it.
I can't move text after flow into frame . What should I do please replay ...please please
Why was it important to use the Simplify command on the shape before flowing text into it?
The text can be corrupted if there's too many nodes in the object you're flowing it into. It's a glitch with Inkscape.
@@LogosByNick thanks! I was wondering if it was node related.
Amazed how these usefull tools are just there ready to be used, most of the time people have to see a video to discover them
Like me
3 dislikes...I'm sure it was other youtubers.
Probably Adobe employees 😉
@@LogosByNick 4 sure, or Corel employees, I know that some of Inkscape's features are better than Corel and Adobe features such as stroke to path, gradient, even tracing an image works the way better on inkscape than on Corel or even illusttator. The only nice thing illusttator has is the path builder but I would say it's 4 lazy people. Inskcape does everything the others do and I would say it does even better. Waiting 4 the next versions of inskcape the 1.0 alpha is very promising. Soon inkscape will be better than illustrator and Corel combined. It's important to take in consideration that both Corel and Adobe Illtustator have over 30 years of existence while Inkscape is only 16 years old and it's free and open source, meaning that it depends on the community to keep growing up but I do believe the community will support Inkscape even more and make it greater over time. Thank you Nick for your great tutorials once again, you are such a masterpiece and very kind of you sharing your knowledge.
Maybe someday inkscape include the tool repelling text. The way Xara and other softwares do. In 2023 thats not included yet...
Why you have so less subscribers😭😭😭😭
Subscribers seem on point to me? I don't think I've lost any recently.
@@LogosByNick No I mean why very less people are subscribed to you, you have such a great content
Oh I see what you mean. I thought you meant I lost subscribers.
Flow into frame made all my text disappear
When I think about all the time wasted because of not knowing this ..........
Same thing you can do very fast in illustrator with only create shape around the object then past in shape thats it why you are using so many steps 😜😜😜
Good tutorial, but jeezus can it get any more complicated!
