I love you. I wouldn't know what the heck I was doing if it weren't for your tutorials. They're perfect. You explain everything so well, include everything you would need, and you don't waste time. Seriously, I really appreciate how polished and clear your videos are.
Hello Nick, glad to see you back more active. When I first installed Inkscape, I almost immediately decided to uninstall it. I thought it was useless... That's till I saw a tutorial by you. Now, after 3 years of using this powerful tool, I got to say: Thank You!! Another way to colour the tiles (depends on how you'd like the final result) can be achieved by using the tweak tool. You'll have to set it on paint mode. More specific, first you select all tiles. Then you give them an outline (so they're visible) and fill them with white colour. While all selected, you choose the tweak tool and set your preferences, you click: -"Paint the tool's color upon selected objects " -"Channels: H, S & L " Then pick a colour and apply on some tiles. Pick another colour or shade an go on upon some other or even the same tiles... That's Inkscape's "magic", you can do something in different ways.😊
@@LogosByNick I tried to do this but for some reason each green/blue triangle had at least 4 layers of the same color. So when I went to mark the top left corner as transparent nothing happened and that's when I found it had multiple layers of both blue/green. But when I just used the back button again and then checked the first triangle set to start over re-tiling the second time there were no duplicates in the first. It was really weird. Any ideas what I did wrong?
@@oldowl4290 You might have pressed ctrl+d multiple times unknowingly and hence multiple shapes at same place would make multiple fill... Hope it helps.
What an awesome tutorial. Thanks! Your tutorials are allowing me to create my first professional website from scratch and to move from being a backend to a fullstack developer, and I can now stand my ground on basic design tasks. Thanks a lot again and I'll sign up for your master class as soon as I get a chance :D
I just startet with Inkscape to make Logo for the small new company of my girlfriend. Your tutorials are a great help and i learned so many thanks to them. Thank you a lot. ❤
It's faster to create the triangles, with black outlines. combine your pattern together. then underlay your back ground under your pattern, whilst make your triangles no color but black outline. Then cut the pattern into your background. then individually fill the colors with the eye dropper.
Does anyone else have the issue of finding the 'Create and edit meshes' tool on the left-hand side of the screen, I have searched and searched for this with no luck. what am I missing 🤦♂️ Awesome content Nick, without your channel I probably would be using inkscape.
this process can be made less tedious by using the dropper and clicking on the background instead of the 'no fill colour' button. This way you don't have to move the mouse so much.(make sure your background is transparent however)
Hi Nick, loving and learning so much! Did you know you could take all your initial settings you do in almost every video and save it as an svg template in [filepath]\Inkscape\share\templates ?? So you are either being really nice to us by showing the steps every time, or maybe this is a new shortcut. Either way, loving everything you produce and will purchase your Masterclass soon! (Could be a topic for another video ;) )
I tried doing this tutorial, i used inkscape 1.0 but it always crashed on me especially when i was doing like this in 8:42. After like halfway through no filling and eye dropping, it froze and then crashed. I don't know what causes this to crash?
I suspect not. In an recent Q&A he said that Inkscape and Illustrator compare nicely both in feature set and ease of use, though with different things being easier than others. He also said that he thinks Inkscape's gradient features are more intuitive. As with most things, your mileage may vary.
I'm using Illustrator and following along pretty well, but I noticed that your colors seem so much more contrasted and... colorful... Any idea why that would be?
My Inkscape is constantly crashing on this Turorial. I can fill in like 10 triangles with color - boom. I hope the Devs work on the stability of the Program. With some things it works great and some Designs just crash it all the time - and I don't really see a pattern.
Same here. Make sure you set up AutoSave. It is in Edit>Preferences>Input/Output>AutoSave. This has saved me with this program from loosing hours of work.
@@Steven-vd3lo thanks for the reply. I already did turn on auto save. and I saved manually like every few seconds. it's still pretty annoying and I don't know why it does that. other tutorials work perfectly.
Hi Nick, I'm having trouble editing the inner nodes of a mesh gradient in Inkscape on Windows 10. I was able to do it no problem when I was using Inkscape on macOS, and can even move the inner nodes of objects in files I imported onto Windows from my Macbook, but not when creating new objects. I have "enable gradient editing" selected in every setting I can find but still no luck. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. If there's any help you can provide I would really appreciate it. Your videos have helped me design stuff I'm proud of so it sucks to not be able to continue doing it on a more powerful machine. Thank you for reading!
I don't understand the part with the dropper tool. If it was already orange when you click the "x" to remove the green, why did you need to fill it with the color orange. Also when you got to the right side where the purple was. Did you use the dropper tool with the color purpl?
Hi Nick, loving your tutorials. I have a question about using gradient SVGs as backgrounds - when I use an SVG with gradient as an image in CSS it shows up blank, I found a workaround by exporting as png and loading that into the CSS, I just wondered if this is best practice or there is another way?
nick, i am running 1.3 and looking at your 4 year old tutorial on mesh gradients.... I can not get my nods to appear.. hence i have no control on color or shape. How do I see the nodes. I have doubled click in the center along where I think column/row are but nothing happens. any ideas
HI Nick. I am messing around with gradients. There is a long thin rectangle that I would like to fill in with a gradient of the same color. The gradient would go from light to full saturation at the midpoint and then proceed to fade out again. I am unable to do this. To circumvent this I performed the light-to-dark gradient and duplicated it, repositioned the copy and tried to flip it horizontally and it did not work. I intended to connect the dark ends, but...

good afternoon, I have a question, how can I to make this technique in an irregular image for example one face? I will be really happy for your answer🙂
Hi Nick! Thank you for these videos! Question though. If I missed a triangle how do i do it without going all the way back? i removed the color but forgot to pick and add the other! ugh. TIA!
Hi Nick - your channel is super valuable. I was wondering you've probably mentioned this somewhere in your videos before but once I have finished my vector design and I select it and choose Edit -> Copy with the intention to paste it into Photoshop , it appears to not work. I'm using Inkscape 0.91, and learned how to "unlock" the mesh tool and create a keyboard shortcut to use it. But after activating the mesh tool with the shortcut, when I click on the colored rectangle, the color disappears...the mesh is there, but no color. In the fill dialogue box, I do not have the Mesh icon thing to click. Other than upgrading to 0.92, anyone have any clues how to remedy this?
Thanks it looks great ! I'd like to switch my Inkscape to your dark theme but i'm not sure it works with other languages... Do you think i can use this theme and keep my software in french ?
I can't say definitively but I'm pretty sure the language settings are unaffected by the theme. You can always go to Edit > Inkscape Preferences and reset the default language there though. You can also revert back to the old theme if all else fails

OK, I am completely new to inkscape.Which playlist should i start watch?
I'm using Illustrator and following along pretty well, but I noticed that your colors seem so much more contrasted and... colorful... Any idea why that would be?
It's probably just the colors that I selected. The thumbnail may be more vibrant because I took more time to pick out colors that were just right.
Another reason could be your monitor. There are different illumination systems. For example my phone show the colors more contrasted than my laptop
