Painting a heart in oils, wipe-out technique.

  • Timelapse oil painting, wipe-out technique. Using only burnt umber oil paint onto a primed canvas, lifting the highlights with white spirit and painting back in.
    This heart has a ruptured septum - the wall dividing the left and right side of the heart - due to weakened tissue after damage from a massive myocardial infarction (heart attack).
    The specimen I'm working from is from the pathological museum of St George's University Hospital, London.

    Really cool techniques, I've seen the wipe out technique before, used it myself but never to this degree

      Thank you!. This is the most complex subject matter I've done - it took three days, and by the end was drying too fast - should have introduced a bit more linseed oil. In the end I scratched back the final highlights with a scalpel.

      @@deepgreenart it looks great! I've heard a thin coat of oil evenly distributed is extremely helpful before returning to a painting on subsequent days!
