    Using Fresco as a technique in doing artwork is really impressive. I was flabbergasted by how the artist takes into account the color shift as the paint dries and binds to the plaster. Though doing this kind of technique wasn't easy but what makes it unique is that it is durable and the color does not become part of the wall and tends to flake off over time.

    I just had a wonderful trip to Florence last winter and impressed by the fresco pieces there. And I wanna make a fresco at home. Thank you for the great video and inspired me a lot!

    amazing technique, all the plaster layers, the stenciling, and how the artist keeps in mind the color change as the paint bonds with the plaster when drying

    Are there a way to protect or varnishing the fresco painting as usually artists does with other tecnicniques? Maybe with soap or wax as protecting coat?
    Excelent channel and videos!

      Ciao Rodriguez.
      The ancient Romans used a layer of Punic wax (beeswax bleached in the sun), this method was called "encausticization" not to be confused with encaustic which instead uses wax together with color. (but not on the wall)
      The Romans then spread a layer of hot wax on their "fresco" paintings, but honestly if you painted "fresco" you shouldn't apply anything as a proptective, because the color is behind a natural calcium barrier once dry. The wall must always "Breathe" to exchange water and air from the inside to the outside and vice versa. If we block the entry of water from the outside by spreading a protective, at the same time we also prevent the leakage of moisture from the inside of the wall (which is natural to exist in the walls) which, not being able to get out, will create salts and internal detachments.
      I CONCLUDE by telling you that the ROMAN Paintings have been preserved well despite the protective wax thanks to the quality of the masonry itself. They spread seven layers of mortar, from the thickest made with coarse sand lime and pozzolan, to the outermost layers made of lime, fine sand and marble dust and beating each layer for a long time to give it a compactness similar to stone .... in THESE WALLS SO THICK AND COMPACT DO NOT PASS THE MOISTURE ... that's why they could polish them with wax.

      @@tizianolucchesi Sorry for the late response. I really thank your attention and kindness of this very detailed answer and to share your important knowledge.
      I asked because i'm thinking to paint a religious painting, but the chance of that fresco will be damage by people is very high. Thats why i was thinking in a protection to avoid damages.
      I have time to think about the proyect yet.
      Thank You very much Mr. Lucchesi!

    When you use water mixed pigment for applying to buon fresco, does the ground pigment last perpetually in a jar or does it settle and require re grinding after a time?

    • @tizianolucchesi
      @tizianolucchesi  2 роки тому +2

      the pigments dry because the water evaporates, just wet them with water and they return exactly as before. Only a few specific colors, such as titanium or lime white, need to be grind a little again
