Jarrett got held up by Michael Waltrip and Mark Martin nearly got into Dale at the line! I could easily see another 5 laps and Dick would have stunned the field!
One of those classic night races for sure. Not much fight for the lead in the first half but better in the second half. Overall stout race with a lot of attrition and some great finishers in the Top 5. Also backstretch pitting under yellow was a pure shitshow back in those days. Not sure who approved of that process but it really hurt everybody who had to pit there including Steve Grissom, who potentially could have won if circumstances were different.
An underrated driver who was good at Bristol Motor speedway was Jimmy Spencer imo. Jimmy always drove his heart out at Bristol & had some great battles with Dale Earnhardt Sr. & Rusty Wallace. As Rusty Wallace use to say at Bristol was “Checkers Or Wreckers” 🏁 I felt bad for Jimmy Spencer in a truck race at Bristol where he was driving the #2 Dodge Ram truck & had won the race & he drove his truck to victory lane only to be to told that his win was taken away but i forget as to why/reason? Can anyone answer that question for me please & thank you 🙏
It was at Daytona in 2005. A wreck happened as the late Bobby Hamilton set up a pass on Spencer. Jimmy took the white flag, but Bobby had taken the lead when the caution light came on. But you're right on about Mr. Excitement at Thunder Valley. If Spencer had a competitive car, be it in Winston Cup, Busch Series, or Craftsman Trucks, he would be a factor for the win at Bristol.
@@NotSteveCook~ Thanks kindly for answering that for me, i apparently got my tracks mixed up. I miss the 90’s & into the early to mid 2000’s Nascar Cup Series. It’s just not the same for me anymore & I know I speak for many other fans. I live in Canada & we have the touring “Nascar Canada Series” in which it’s called now. It use to be called the “Cascar Super Series” was sold to Nascar in 2007 & it was called the “Nascar Canadian Tire Series” & then the “Nascar Pinty’s Series” & now the “Nascar Canada Series”. It’s super competitive & very diverse where they race on short track ovals-road courses-street courses & dirt. Another very cool thing about this series is that it’s Dodge-Ford & Chevy & no Toyota 👍 lol. You can find old “Cascar” & “Nascar Canada Series” races on UA-cam🏁
@@Anything4adollar Dick danced on the hood of the car after the race, while Jarrett was sipping oxygen. Then he went on to the Fan Ralleye right afterwards, in the rented pavilion, and sipped a few beers with his fan club members. OK, it was a lot more than a few. Great evening.
This was the moment I became a NASCAR fan. I would watch from this race forward just to root Gordon on. If they were going to hate him then I'd cheer him.
I miss watching all these racing on saturday nights during summer and fall bristol, richmond and whatever track had night time in late 90s early 2000s
Pat Tryson quits the Bodine team during the race at 1:25:20
Now that's something I have never heard of before! Good spot.
1:25:17 that was the best in race reporting I've ever heard, then dale Jarret wrecked him simultaneously
Dale gave him a message, when you are lap(s) down, you don't wreck the leader.
Ten more laps Trickle might have pulled that off he was flying at the end wow
I would have loved to see an interview with him. Awesome that he came in 3rd!

Junie Donlavey was a wonderful man.

I get deja Vu watching these old races.
Great run by Trickle and Grissom.
Trickle retired due to age...but w/e happened to Grissom. He just disappeared...

Jarrett's only win at Bristol
Love listening to that crowd when Gordon went behind the wall haha.
SMFH Loved when Rusty got booted in 2002 their
You and me both ! I was cheering too that night ..
1:10:13, Mayfield wrecks Gordon on the restart
1:16:35 The BIg One
Look at that crowd. Wow.
I wish I was there when Gordon got wrecked. Just to hear how loud it actually was lol. Fans don't get that involved anymore
Jeremy Mayfield was High when Gordon went by Him
Actually he was in the low groove :)
@@vc27r clearly he wasn't low. You can see him drift up into the main groove, which is well above where he should have been.
Wow , those fans were pathetic , cheering when JG got wrecked !! Smh

The disgraceful cheering of the crowd during Gordon’s wreck shows the class of the crowd ! No class
Losers hate to see someone else have success. When I would see trash boo him, I would always think, how miserable of a life you must be living.
Shut the hell up
