Hey everyone! Traditional Scotch pies are made with a more complex pastry than is shown in this video and in hindsight I should have not called them traditional but the contents are traditional and they are made as a family tradition in my Scottish home so are traditional to me. I will be making a traditional Scottish Scotch Pie with the correct pastry in the future. I have had so many negative and many abusive comments on this video regarding the pastry (many of which I have had to delete because they are so rude) I have used so apologies if my quick version of this pie has offended anyone lol! :-) Remember folks that these videos are made as a hobby to help other people cook and to introduce Scottish foods to people near and far. I have said before nothing is perfect here but rude or abusive comments will be deleted straight away and I will not engage in any further negative activity regarding this video. Thanks to all who have supported my work and channel over the years. Love to you, Angie xxx
I simply offered my opinion and there certainly was no intent whatsoever on my part to offend you. I am absolutely appalled that you should be subjected to rude and abusive comments. Of course nothing is perfect and you are correct the version that you show is easier. Without question anyone who is not familiar with working with hot water pastry will have challenge on their hands. Take care ,, ignore those rude individuals ,, you're better than that xx

I actually grew up in salt lake city and we had a company here named Morrison Meats who has been making these since the late 1800's. You could buy their scotch pies in most any local grocery store, they were just called "meat pies". I didn't know any other way to eat them other than in a bowl and covered with tomato soup made with milk. It was soooo good! And now I have some other ideas of what to have with them! But this company has since gone out of business a few years back due to a bad business deal and I have been trying to find them in my area with no luck. Now I have your recipe and know how so I am hopeful to have this yummy "desert" back in my life again! Thank you.
auw thats lovely I hope you enjoy them they are sooo good! This version uses a quick premade pastry but I will be making another video with the authentic pastry in the New Year. Take care and let us know how you get on with your pies. Love Angie x
I laughed when you said mutton was used way back. In our family we still refer to these as mutton pies. I agree the lamb version is so very much tastier. My sister in the screwed her face up so badly when she heard my daughter exclaiming " yes mutton pies yummy" husband quickly told her that I had also made some with beef for her. She loved the pies ( husband and her are Welsh ) We had several left over next day and she when asked what she wanted to eat midday she chose the pie and as I made some scotch broth for others she popped her pie in the oven. When she took it out I noticed that she had cooked a mutton rather than beef ( I had marked them differently She took one bite and I was waiting for her to say she didn't like it but instead she gobbled it down exclaiming how good it was with every single bite. When she was leaving two weeks later she had a box containing 24 pies in back of her care 12 of each and she had learned how to make them herself.
Temperature - 170oc (fan) and 25-20minutes - somebody asked in the comments what the temperature and length of cooking time should be but the comment has dissapeared so just in case anyone else needs the baking time and temp here ya go! Enjoy! Angie :-) xxx
Your Scotch Pies look so lovely and delicious. You are a good teacher. I have been looking for recipes for these for a while now and have decided to give your recipe a go. I'm in the U.S. and I guess these are not made here very much. I have asked my family and friends and no one was familiar with them. I will let you know how they turn out when I do make them. Thanks so much.
Thank you for your kind words I hope they turned out well for you, tag us on instagram if you took a pic and I'll share them for you, Enjoy, Angie :-) x
You can also make these delicious Scotch pies with beef mince if you can't get a hold of lamb mince, beef will be equally delicious. If you do give it a try drop me a line below I'd love to hear how you got on with them :-) Enjoy Angie x
We always had our own beef and I’ve made meat pies with it, adding green beans and mushrooms to mine, cooked right in the mixture. Yours turned out pretty in those little pans. I look forward to seeing your scratch crust video and love your accent. My Dad’s family was Scots.
A wee tip, Angie: If you can't find lamb mince, just ask your butcher to mince you some of his lamb for you. I'm sure he'll have some decent lamb breast or scrag-end. Alternatively a home hand-mincer, or a food-mixer attachment will do the job. Failing all that, you can do a reasonable job with a sharp knife and a chopping board. The motto is: never give up. Lovely recipe, wee lassie.
Hello, I bought the pie tins on Amazon and I think at a few £'s each. Drop me an email if you can't find them and I will send you a link - info@angiemilne.com take care, Angie, xx

what a Faf real scotch pies do not remotely Look or take as long to make I use Tongmaster Seasonings Scotch pie kit it comes with pie shells and lids and a ready mix bag of seasoning all you do is mix the seasoning pack with meat (Lamb is best)and water do not cook just add wet mix to the shells and place on the pastry lid and place in pre heated oven @180 for 40 mins Fantastic real scotch pies from Scotland This is the Traditional Glasgow Pie from a master Butcher
Thanks Joe, I think to make the authentic pastry a real scotch pie would take much longer than this recipe! This is a quick family version we use and enjoy! They are great but yeah I love using the pie cases at times too. My Dad got me some from the butcher in the toon! They were delicious filled with macaroni! Enjoy and take care, Angie x

onions in a Scotch pie
There were in the old recipes I looked at, if you don't want onions leave them out.
Would be nice if some of your links work
This might be dumb but can u put list the ingredients in the American units too lol idk what a gram is 😂
