From one of the best live albums of all time. It’s magical when during Steve’s middle section solo, Phil and Chester on drums, Tony playing the organ and mellotron, and Mike is playing rhythm guitar and the Moog bass pedals, all coming together! No wonder it’s bringing the tears of joy! 🥲

Phil is on drums from the beginning of the "flute solo" section and Chester re-joins at the beginning of the guitar solo section and both play until Phil drops off at the end of the guitar solo section.

L33: After The Cinema Show, how about the centerpiece of this entire live album, the song that even Peter Gabriel saw from the audience, got goosebumps and teared up for, the massively majestic Supper's Ready? It'll knock the wind out of you it's so badass. Thanks for sharing your travails with us, too - how awesome is it that you were surrounded by drugging yet held fast to life and got out of there? "Your builders outstrip your destroyers, and those who laid you waste go forth from you." You have earned your tears of joy.

Phil plays the beginning of the instrumental. He is the sharp, tight, quick/hard playing (Phil haha) -- right side/channel and then they play together when Steve's bit starts. Phil has a huge pocket, as does CT -- they fit so well together - and are so good they are playfull in each other's pocket while keeping the whole tune together. PC is an awesome arranger. Phil plays around a bit more, and CT is just so solid and perfect. You're doing something right when Bill B and CT are the live guys you play with. Phils always play during instrumentals, so assume as much when you hear them live. PC always introduces/introduced himself as a drummer first. It is his essence in everything he does,
40 years here, dude. Stay in the **here and now**, be present -- make healthy habits, and keep them (DISCIPLINE) and cry all you want, and laugh, and express wtv is really YOU -- all of it; to beautiful art, the miraculous world we live in itself and the ones we love and can love us. Give without asking, be present always, be strong, and you'll be well fed and change the tapes and stories, I hope. Still, is that for me, every day, 40 years, kids, 2 wives and a good life, fully lived. Peace and love, brother.
PS The second you're done reading this, the moment is gone; the past is the past.

I am 53 now and have been a fan since I was in middle school. If Firth of Fifth is their hallmark song with Gabriel, One for the Vine is their hallmark song with Collins.

Lee, all good on the tears, man. That is a beautiful, authentic reaction and I am grateful for your honesty and your journey. God bless you, brother. Hey, there is a song on this live album that also moves me to tears. "Supper's Ready". When I listen to the Seconds Out version of that song, especially by the last couple of minutes, I can't help but lift up. I was fortunate to see Firth of Fifth live in Cleveland, 1973. They were touring in support of Selling England by the Pound. I respect Seconds Out live, but without Gabriel it just doesn't work for me. The Hackett solo is pure brilliance. Banks piano intro (not on this video) is beyond genius. There is a few vids on youtube where he does it with Live full Orchestra in London and Iceland, it has incredible power. As you mentioned Wind And Wuthering it's a brilliant record. The final suite of Unquiet Slumbers For The Sleepers/In That Quiet Earth/Afterglow beautifully bleed into each other. A recommendation is to hear Afterglow live, it always finished a medley of old songs and is just awesome when Phil goes from singing to a massive crescendo, and joins Chester to play the power outro. I remember when the album was released in '77 I played this relentlessly for years, the power & the majesty of their playing, like you the middle instrumental section from Tony & Steve doubling on the flute solo section, Tony's beautiful synth solo to Steve's phenomenal guitar solo section with the mellotron, bass pedals & drums all coming together with such climactic power is one of the greatest moments in recorded live prog history. Very nice. caught the group around that time period. Saw them play Baltimore, Chester's home town, 77. Wonderful year for me. I was teaching art at the time. Phil did a lot of duel drumming with Chester. brought the house down. It was totally worth a hour and a half drive each way, missed Peter on the flute. and vocal. Wind and Withering is a melencholy themed album. I like Duke as one of the best post Gabrial Genesis albums

Studio version and SO version... both are perfect, but this live version is more sweet, nostalgic and emotional.

L33, from W&W album, "One for the Vine", the trilogy that close the album, and "Blood of the Rooftops" wich is from another planet.

I often say that Selling England and A Trick are my two Favourite albums, however Seconds Out is up there as well. It’s one of the best live albums by any band. It’s Genesis at their Prog peak with Steve still in the band. Cinema Show on this is better than the studio version, with Phil and Bill Bruford on drums. Phil will always get back on the drums when he can. During the instrumental on Firth of Fifth, that is Chester and Phil playing together. Love your reaction to this.

So glad you enjoyed it my friend. I thought I'd finally listen to a live version of this since it was so special when I first heard it. And I wasn't let down. This was amazing. Thank you for watching as always 🙏

With all due respect to Chester, I think that is Phil killin' it on drums. And as Steve kills it on guitar, Mike is tearing up the bass, true. Love how he weaves a counter melody so solidly.

It's both of them at points. But, Chester while Phil is singing, is all him. According to another commenter he hops in when the flute section starts.

I agree with you as to how this composition really hits you emotionally I think it’s so moving and it’s one of the best guitar solos ever combined with Tony’s into. Always happy to hear this at any time because it’s a masterpiece- and I am a true Tull freak as you should know from my comments of your Tull reviews. I just want you to know that I love other bands Rush is my second favorite and then Yes,Genesis, and Pink Floyd. I just discovered an indigenous music band called Otyken from Siberia and they are incredible and I think you would like what they do. I await your response to this group. Check out their pro videos before looking at their live show

My favourite, closely followed by Burning Rope off ATTW3. I missed Tony Banks classical piano intro though!

Have always loved this version though I would have liked Steve’s guitar higher in the mix. Still magic as is. Phil and Chester both on drums always made me go crazy at concerts. There are some UA-cam’s of this.

Thanks for this. It has been a long time since I listened to the Seconds Out "LIVE" version. I noticed the differences now. Mike's bass is a lot more clear, and I think I even prefer Chester's drums, although I'm sure Phil was joining him in the instrumental section. Sounds like Tony decided to replace the piano with electric piano, but it still sounds cool. Steve's guitar solo is magnificent as ever. I agree with you that Firth of Fifth is one of the most KILLER prog songs of all time. Thanks for the review, and I'm glad that, personally, you are in a better place. 😎😎 It'll be cool to do "Wind and Wuthering". It has one of my favourite songs, "Blood on the Rooftops" which has some brilliant accoustic guitar by Steve Hackett! 🙂🙂

It’s Phil that’s killing it lol, long instrumentals are always Phil live, occasionally there will be another drummer keeping the tempo going or doing percussion
