I have 2 M1000s, both in the same black. Both were purchased in 2002 from John Mottishaw. Having the nibs customised by John really makes it a pleasure to write with. in 18 years, both pens have not caused me any problems. The M1000s are wonderful pens.
I own 1 Green Striped and 2 M1005 Stresemann, all M nibs. And I like them a lot! The first filling of the M1005 was Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun and it has stayed in there for a year now (obviously with refilling). This combination forced me to buy the 2nd M1005 a while back. :) The M815 (in my case) is indeed more practical, but the M1000 is something for the heart and the joy. :)
My favourite size is also the m800 but the nib on the m1000 knows no equals in the world as of right now. As much as I love writing with the smooth m800, the m1000 feels a litlle bit more elastic requiring at the same time a little bit more control from your hand. I am glad I made the jump after a couple of years because I am really enjoying the m1000 pretty much over anything else, even flexible nibs.
Thanks for the review. I look forward to your M800 review as I have considered it. May have to wait until pen shows are on again to compare them, though.
Great review as always. I'm on the fence on modern Pelikans, for one simple reason, the gold ring at the front of the section. I have heard they are prone to corrosion over time due to contact with ink on filling. Not sure how much of a problem that could be, but still...
@@davyj5216 do you mean £ or $? And do you mean black striped or just black? Because I'd prefer striped "stresseman" style, but I appreciate the heads up, especially with their 10-15% off sale right now!
@@robmc120 I converted to US dollars so, USD$427 or thereabouts depending on the exchange rate. Oh, and yes, plain black or the regular green striped. The Streseman M1005 is about US$544. Still a good price though. :)
I know it's an old video but I have an M1000 and love the amount of ink it provides. I'm looking for a similar - less expensive - nib and I'm thinking about getting a Pilot falcon, Pilot 912 FA or Noodler triple trail. Which of these 3 you think can write like the M1000?
I'd go for the 912's FA, but none of those are really like the m1000. You'll get more flex writing from the FA and less of the squish. I've heard that getting an ebonite feed for the FA really increases the flow.
Ah, the good old M1000. :) It is a really nice pen in my opinion. And it has a good nib. Unfortunately, Pelikan reduced the available nib sizes a good while ago. But they are still available in the market. :D Oh. And if you do a Pelikan-Tour at the company in Hannover, Germany, you get the change of an nib made just for you in your size and style. The Number of childs in the nest gives a good indication of the production-date. "West-Germany" of course is one too. :D ;)
I don't think they're similar at all, actually. They're about the same size, but the nib on the m1000 is soft, wet, and wide, while the 823 is smooth and solid. Of the two, I prefer the 823.
Also what about the m1000 vs the aurora 88? I absolutely love the 88 demonstrator and it’s a similar price to the m1000 but I get the sense the Pelikan is the better pen?
Again, I prefer the 88. That's my favorite Aurora, there, and they are excellent. Their nibs couldn't be more different, though. The Aurora nibs are stiff and known for having a little feedback, while the Pelikans are soft and kinda squishy.

That seems right to me. An m1000 isn't really an everyday pen for most folks. It's a statement pen.

Hmm. I haven't had that happen, but I suppose it could if the plating were to degrade somehow.
I PRAY i find an m1000 for ~$400 one day, until then, ill try out the more decorative m800's pelikan offers. God bless you MIke!
The secondary market is good for that sort of thing, and you'll already know if the nib is good.
Cult Pens, probably the best prices at the moment. About $427 for a black or green striped version, and free shipping.

Thank you, Mike. I’ve been eyeing an M1005 for some time now. This was very helpful..
Excellent.
This might feel like an unfair comparison but which should I go for the 823 or the m1000 they’re so similar

Seems crazy people prefer the 823 over much more expensive pens. Still not made my mind up though the nib on the Pelikan looks so appealing
Are there any obvious pros and cons of the 823 over the Pelikan? Or is it just personal preference

Awesome review on an awesome pen!
Thanks!
Thanks, Mike. Enjoyed the size comparisons and writing sample. I sure like my M800 with a broad nib!
The M1000 nibs are all Broad, regardless of what is stamped on the nib itself.
Right? Some are broader than others, though, I guess.
@@inkdependence I’ve a F and an EF, they are barely different and both are at least Broad 😄😄
it's so wet almost leaking.
