Hey everyone. What do you think of the Bolide? It was exceptionally difficult to find something to criticise on this monster! Thanks SO much again for getting the channel to 100k subscribers. This year was essentially dedicated to building a solid foundation as has surpassed all expectations but 2021 is where the really exciting stuff will start to happen. We're so happy to have so many of you along for the ride already! Enjoy the video! Frank
Frank, I would urge you to watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/bwVbklHHE4w/v-deo.html where an engineer who I believe specializes in fluid dynamics does a review of this same car. Long story short, what we as designers believe to "look aerodynamic" is often far from what is actually aerodynamic.
The one detail I don't like as much are the headlights - the whole "X" theme because it's "eXtreme" is a bit daft. Sure they say on the headlights it's because of the tape, but then I would have pulled back on the graphic styling - they look like cheap logo stickers right now - something cut from a self adhesive vinyl sheet... the solution on the rear looks much less contrived and very purposeful by contrast - its like separate design teams solved the rear and the front.
The Internet/UA-cam is such an amazing achievement. Where else would we be able to gain the knowledge and insights from top professionals like Frank delivered as a personal conversation?! 🥰
Yes but it'll have to evolve if it want to survive, they are not doing themselves any favour with all their new policies and content cuting, people need to freely express themselves and UA-cam is making it harder with each passing year
The "Mustang" and "Charger" are beautiful, the ones resembling limos or old caddies are also super cool. The Arch bike of jackie is godtier, I hope Arch take off they deserve it, Keanu and the designer/mechanic are super passionate about it.
@@marciliojunior4919 not so much actually futuristic though, more that the style is fitting with the cyberpunk aesthetic which is rooted in futuristic visions from the 1980's and films like Blade Runner. The old cars in the game look like 70's and 80's cars and the type of vehicle designs that are common today aren't really represented at all. I love that game for style choices like this.
Their cars still retain that iconic Bugatti look and styling whilst consistently pushing ahead with their design and features. I’m genuinely not joking when I say I could look at this car for hours. It’s just beautiful but still undoubtedly a Bugatti. What an incredible team they must have working for them, they’ve been constantly outdoing themselves model after model.
The back of this car looks absolutely amazing. I just love how you can see those wide tires like that, it reminds me of older Le Mans cars like the 917 and so on. I’m used to seeing the combination of luxury and speed, but this looks like it’s purely speed and I love every bit of it.
That is a gorgeous piece of machinery. I think if I saw one in person I'd just stand there and trace every line of the car just to see where they go. Such a beautiful flow of sharp aggressive edges and smooth aerodynamic curves.
Achim Anscheidt's Design. The rear end is just stunning. He was a regular at a celebrity hotel I used to work in Berlin. Super quiet and chill guy and always exquisitely dressed. Had a conversation with him once at the bar about the design of the Veyron while he was having a drink. He seemed super surprised I knew who he was but not a lot of words came out of his mouth. Man of a few words.
Congrats on reaching over 100,000 subscribers as of this video posting! I’m sure this channel will continue to grow with the superb quality of your content. I think the Bolide is one of the craziest looking cars and I can’t wait to learn more about it. Thank you as always for sharing your analysis and thoughts, Frank!
THIS car is a JOY to look at, i am NO engineer or sculptor but i see it as a amazing forward in ways my mind can't grasp ! REALLY is a design i am overwhelmed by.........EVERYONE got together & did a MOST splendid job ! ! !
I had a tutor when I was taking a calculus class and he only used a black Bic ballpoint pen. There is a certain romance that comes from using those old school pens that is timeless. Watching frank's sketch with that same pen brought so many memories and reminded me that it is not about the pen rather than the person that holds it. I look at cars and objects in complete different way thanks to the amazing videos by Frank.
He is rating each car on how it is designed related to its purpose. In the Honda video he was praising it for having callbacks to retro Hondas, yet moving the design forward into a new age of electric cars. For an electric city car, it is executed very well.
The edits on these videos are extraordinary yet seem doable by anyone which makes this guy very down to earth despite his status in the car world. A really amazing gift for the youtube community and an honor for sure.
To see any car design that can be a work of art and at the same time uses automotive state of the art to come up with a complete package is rare today. Thank you for explaining the design elements.
Your channel is a gift that keeps on giving, Frank. Your takes are awesome and you explain a lot of very interesting ideas and concepts from an professional point of view in regards to vehicle design and engineering. Thank you. And this car... man, what a beauty. Aggressive, bold, innovative, truly mindblowing.

Frank, would ever do these type of videos for the rally cars of the 80s and 90s? I know they quite basic compared to super cars but would love to hear you're take on them.
I'd love for you to review the design of the Pagani Huayra. It's 10 years old and it still looks fresher than lots of cars out. The Zonda R would also be a good contender
This car and others like it are so important, they are the cutting edge of technology which will eventually find its way into to common everyday cars. It excites me to think how far car technology and design has come in the last 15 years... 2005 we got the original Veyron which people said couldn't be built, then the supersport came along, then the Chiron and many more one off models. Now we have the Bolide and it leaves me wondering what fantastic things will come next because of this power house of data and technology.
Hey Frank, as a Frenchman, yes Bolide stand for a fireball or a comet in french like you said in the video, but it's very rare that French people use this word in that sense. We use it rather to qualify a very fast car ;)
Love your videos, as always, frank! Those wheels are from the 1980s and are called “BBS turbo fan wheels” Porches used to have them! This Bugatti looks gorgeous!!
This car is made of the stuff racers are made of. The design is so wild and uncompromised a kind of LeMans prototype on steroids. I love the rear with the crazy diffuser, the wing, the fin and the F-Duct. I hadn't understood the X headlights and now I love it, these homages to the past are so powerful...Thank you
Fantastic review as usual, this car has an absolutely stunning design. There's nothing like it out there, thank you for putting your super interesting point of view. You're one of a kind, there's nobody like you with the knowledge and background doing videos like these.

I agree. Outside of the few details as you mentioned on the Bolide, now being 2 years since it's unveiling there hasn't been any real news on it's status as a track focused hyper car. I can find a few things to criticize. Mainly with the diffuser. The diffuser is to high raked which means the flow will no doubt separate this will cause more drag and less downforce.
