original but still very cool
Honestly I never realized the Wii mini was any different. I just assumed it was a smaller Wii. No GameCube seems like a given but no wifi? What would that have cost them to add in? A dollar? Haha
it had no wifi to prevent modding the console, the wii was such an easy system to mod and it was all because of the builtin wifi, which was gutted by nintendo.
@@lockinhinddanger934 You actually can mod the console via an oversight with Bluetooth. Bluebomb is the name and is the only known way of modding the console. There you can add wifi functionality back via ethernet and boot games with the usb stick! Pretty cool!
@@WIllYN yeah, but that's recent I was talking long ago.
The wii mini was meant to just be for families that only wanted to play the games with family or friends. Therefore u had no use for wifi. This had as a side effect that it was almost impossible to mod. It was just meant to boot the disks, nothing more.
I never used wifi on my wii lol

Wii mini really didn't have any selling point except the price because it couldn't play Game Cube games and no internet connection!
Great video man!
Just hack it and you can play GameCube and connect to internet

@@DezliteYou can only play GameCube ISO files, and the only legal way to get those is by dumping them from a real GameCube or Wii so it’s pretty pointless unless you travel the seven seas, but yeah, you can mod in Wi-Fi adapter support
Even then by the time this released the wii was pretty cheap, so it would've been better to either save up just a bit more or find a cheaper og wii
The Wii mini looks like a GameCube cut in half, painted red. And its a Wii with half of the features it normally has. It has Mario kart Wii, a red Wiimote motion plus, a red nunchuck, a disk mechanism similar to the GameCube, and thats all of the good things it has.
The blank paper was probably to prevent anybody opening the box to cut the box inside It was to protect the wee box from being sliced while opening the package is my guess.

I've never even heard of the Wii mini. I never thought Wii needed a downsize because it was already a tiny.
The original Wii was the best console man, you can also click on the little calendar icon on the left to bring up the months instead of going day by day lol, I wish I never formatted my Wii and transferred its data to my old Wii U man, I would’ve loved to seen the random times I played as a kid back in the day 😭😭
Me too
Design was excellent but sucks that they removed all of the features that people even got a Wii for. Then again I have a black wii and never once played game cube games on it. Lol used it for wii games and Netflix back when it first came out.
Am I the only one who likes the design of the Wii Mini more than the original?

If you own an original Wii and a Switch you've basically got four consoles in two. Wii is compatible with GCN and Wii U's best games have been ported over to Switch. Add virtual games from classic consoles on top of that and you're pretty covered.
You can also mod the Wii easily to get you every game on every past Nintendo console so the Wii's easily one of the best consoles.
*In Billy Mays voice* "But wait there's more, Homebrew that Wii and you also have an NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, PS1, GB, GBC, and a GBA in one console for the small price of a 32 GB SD card!!!"
Now we just gotta wait and see if the Switch will one day play Xbox 360 and PSP games.
*Super Mario 3D World*
Fun fact about why this was made! These were mainly marketed towards people who lived in log cabins in colder areas because they usually didn’t have wifi.
Very specific
Video idea: What happens if you plug in external usb wifi driver to wii mini
Idk
thats....a good idea
I would guess that it would brick the console as I know for a fact Riiconnect24 does and even the homebrew channel would too I’m guessing.

i have one of those i mostly used it for the go, if i remember correctly there was a little screen addon for the wii and i would used that to play on road trips
Some games on disc come with channels that you can install, including mario kart wii.
You can transfer Miis into remote and bring them to other console, so this is also how you would be able to get other Miis into this console.
Hey! I wanted to say that the Mario Kart 8 steering wheel isn't included to the wii mini! I always used the steering wheel of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing for the wii. also the Mario Kart wii packaging is of paper and wasn't packed in plastic!
This model is actually modable now, and can actually connect to the internet via the Wii USB adapter if you manually copy the config over from another Wii.
A total waste of money. I would rather go for the original model with retro compatibility to play Gamecube
I mean that’s like a no brainer and the fact that the original Wii’s are cheap as hell go to basically any goodwill and they will be there sitting there just begging to be played
well yeah obviously today its a waste of money. u can literally buy a wii cheaper than this now. but back then, a wii would cost 250. The wii mini would cost less than half of that - it was a good deal for those who don’t even have internet access.
Wii is better than gamecube
@@killjoy6391 Exactly. It had it's market, but now it's honestly not worth it except as a collectable. Still an interesting little device though.
@@killjoy6391 Ya for those who didn't have gamecube or didn't use the internet it was a good deal back then, Now its just nothing more than a mere a collecters item.
I remember I bought one specifically because my wii at the stop stopped reading discs and I really wanted to play Skyward Sword because at the time I never got to play it yet. I remember having fun but being careful not to get the glitch that causes the game to be impossible to proceed. Seeing as the wii mini couldn't download the software patch to fix it.
I remember as a kid i always wanted a wii mini even tho we had an original wii, i just thought the redd was cool
It’s pretty cool I’d buy one just to have try keeping it in mint condition who knows could end up being worth heaps

To all my low income kids, it gets better. Be easy on your parents because they try the best they can with the money they make. You might get a consel months or years later, refurbished or new, just when a new one released, or any other possible scenario. Sometimes you just have to wait and maybe even make your own money through neighborhood labor or even a job when you can. I remember being really sad when I didn't have the consels other kids and friends did; it was upsetting because I couldn't get what I wanted, but what hurt the most was seeing my mom struggling on her own and me thinking about all of the negative emotions she felt as a low income mom. Family pulls through, and the universe will bless you when you need it most. Completely random, but I saw this and saw that the wii mini was an affordable version that had major setbacks (no wifi and no gamecube compatibility), and that reminded me of some things that a lot of kids like me had to sacrifice and my mom/their parent/s. If a kid like me is reading this, things truly do get better; enjoy the little things and be even more grateful for the hard earned consels that are purchased with money that could go towards life necessities.

If the original Wii didn’t have GameCube compatibility then I would buy a Wii mini since, I don’t do digital games unless the game I want are not physical. But since the Wii Rvl-001 does have the GameCube stuff I would prefer that one.
Fun Fact about the Wii Mini that it’s a Canadian Exclusive and the reason they remove the Internet Connection is that Canada had Cottages which doesn’t have WiFi Connection. Nintendo should’ve added WiFi Connection for the American Release cause America doesn’t have Cottages and even if they release it in America with Internet Connection, it’s not necessary when the Wii U was already out.
Didn't the Wii Mini get a release in Europe?

I remember I saw a Wii mini on sale in a Sears many years ago for 40 dollars and didn’t get it... still wondering what my life would have been if I had bought it
Better than mine
SD channels are signed by a per-console key, so you can't transfer channels between Wii's that way. If you could...then you could pirate games that way, and install the homebrew channel that way.
Fun fact the box is a copy of the black Wii Mario kart Wii bundle box but it’s smaller and doesn’t come with steering wheel.
didnt realize the mini was going for decent money. Last original wii i bought was literally $5.
The OG Wii I bought was literally $9 with cables... (no wii remotes, though it did come with a sensor bar)
100 million Wii consoles were sold there going for peanuts.

You can soft mod it and play from external USB.
I heard that also can add through a hub WiFi adapter, keyboard and mouse. I wait for a USB hub with external power to test because my HDD does not work through the hub. However, a USB stick (8G) worked fine with the keyboard but not with the wireless adapter.
It took a day, k still had my original 2006 wii, i went ALL the way back, it was nostalgic
People hacked internet onto this system back in 2019.
At the time when this came out it was amazing, wii without some features bundled in with Mario kart wii and $100 was a steal
why not just get a wii for $50 wiith all features
The downside to the Wii Mini is that you can’t change video resolution like you would on an original Wii.
The only downside?
My brother in Iwata, that’s just *one* of the downsides

you can always mod the wii mini if you like. The mod exploit came out 1 year ago after a lot of years since its release
As someone who loves the Wii homebrew scene, the Mini felt like a giant middle finger from Nintendo. As if they were spiting us for breaking the security of their first model with a pair of tweezers.
Anyway, it's not too hard to mod. Cool review 👍
Nah bro I see it more as a "Here's the cheapest we can make it new and it has no wifi" which screams to me that this was purely a child targeted device.
I have a cool one for you to try: put "kiss pinball" for the original playstation into a ps1 and after you load the game, you can take the disc out and the game will still play. You can then put a regular audio cd in and it will play that music and you can continue playing without the game even in the ps1. This works I've tried it be interesting for some tests
Most games would run on the PS1 once the tray was opened untill you try and load something within the game

I realise that you can there is a Nintendo DS and Wii USB Wi-Fi Adapter that you can try to use it on the Wii Mini, All you have to do is plugged it in on the back USB Port.
I think it could be a good investment, with a box like that
for something that was WAY cheaper than the Wii at launch, it was worth it. still Is in terms of price, and it actually makes SENSE that it's price is around 60-70 dollars on ebay, because that's the price of a game, and all it does is play games :)

No internet, No GameCube, and also No Component for 480p. Stuck at 360p AVI. So should of gotten an OG early Wii model. One that stands both vertical or horizontal. Later models were horizontal only and removed GC compatibility. The box shows the orientation and the branding does too if you ever look for one so you’ll know the difference before buying.

that "wii wheel" is actually a 3rd party wheel. i have a red version of it and it seems that it is sold at gamestop. it is completely unbranded but after a little research it is from POWER-A
That thing was stripped down. I mean, it doesn't even have 480p support. There were other Wii consoles that didn't even have GameCube support. I think it was the black Wii that didn't have it. I understand that the Wii Mini was a budget console for maybe non gamers or maybe for assisted living homes, or just people living on a budget.
Mario kart 8 released on wii u but a licensed wii wheel for it released for it too as the wii u game will have allowed wii controllers as a control but would have same function on mario kart wii. Often on local multiplayer wii u accepts wii remotes. Solo play on many games too. Also wii u had a wii built in for back compat. Still use my wii u as a wii. Also to answer what's the point? It was originally released in Canada where many like lodges don't use wifi and as it was only around $100 at the time. They also looked at a market of like hotels and lodge resorts where they could buy several and put them in each room etc or for people to use in their holiday home or put in a house or lodge they rent out. It became quite successful as it was a cheap wii so got released elsewhere. Btw all of wii online has been took down anyway. Only way to play like mario kart wii online is the wiimfi and ctgp with the custom tracks

Worst part IMO is the lack of component video. Standard cables look like garbage. Also no GameCube support.

The person who sold this just shoved it all in the box.
I'd have boxed clever, all items would have been cleaned, bagged and tied to look more original.
