The correct alignment is ~ 1 mm below body in the front and ~ 1 mm up the body in the rear to ensure proper air flow and minimal wind noise (acording to bmw service manual). Did this on my car and indeed lower the wind noise - before that I felt that some wind enters in the cabin.

You rock at these E46 vids. You should really do a sunroof cassette DIY vid. I literally cannot find one anywhere, even on E46 Fanatics. You would be a life saver to many I'm sure!
Stupid question - Let's assume that my sunroof skipped position on the track. You take out the motor and reset the sunroof (as you've shown in another video) but what is the process to replace the motor. Do you put the motor in the closed position again before re-fitting or is there a reset procedure that I need to follow? I just ordered the clip repair kit after watching your video. I wasn't expecting it to be a cheap fix. I'm just not sure how to replace the motor as I'm not certain what position the motor is in right now (either popped, open or closed). One side of the sun roof pops up and the other side jams the motor and it clicks constantly. I need to follow your video and reset the glass on the tracks and fix the shade at a later date.
Hey I know this is old. But I’m having the same issue and tried to reset the glass with no luck…. Wondering if you had any luck or tips to getting it fixed….
@@kurtmann1593 So, I followed the video. If your glass is closed, you may only need to remove the motor, and use the switch to move the motor into the closed position and replace the motor in that closed position. Unfortunately one of my rails is rusted completely through and its basically powdery metal that is missing sections. So I couldn't even fix the sunroof. I will need to replace the entire cassette.
Try removing and replacing the motor. If that still doesn't work, inspect your rails and realign them/replace any broken rail clips.
My son’s sunroof skipped a tooth or two, and doesn’t want to lower evenly. You describe disconnecting the motor and adjusting the gears on the track, but do you have any better detail on the adjustment?

Edit: Another thing I learnt after adjusting. My roof still didn’t always return to the flush position. Make sure you push the button all the way forward and then press and hold the middle of it up for 30 seconds the roof will reset itself to the perfect height!🎉

What about the reset function? hold the tilt button for 20 seconds and the motor readjust the resting positions
Hi I have a 2007 x5 panoramic roof wont open keeps jamming before it opens only will raise then stops
Can't you just push and hold the button where it pops the window up for like 30 seconds to calibrate it

ShopLifeTV, You did it again, you always have saved my life with your videos, my 2005 330CI sunroof was uneven due to the shade guides mess up, and I watched this video, loose the 3 screws from the side was the gap, now it's even❗ 👍
I replaced the clips we xavtly the way u demonstrated and replaced the glass and adjusted as well. When I operate the roof to the back position the sunshade gets hungup when it's almost all the way open and binfd up and stops like it's hitting something.nefore I replaced the clips it worked without binding up. my sunroof gets stuck at the middle of opening, some cracking can be heared, and cant close it or open it. Somehow i managed to close it and didnt touch anything after. Is the problem sunroof track adjustment or what? and opening it upwards works normally
I just noticed mine will actually go low if I hold the switch all the way forward and I just pushed the button in to raise the sunroof a few times until it sat flush. Hopefully this solves my problem. I love your vids! I’ve changed my MAF and DISA thanks to your help. I did the purge valve as well and got rid of my p0444 but now I have a p0455 and I’m guessing it’s on the fuel tank area because I’ll get whiffs from there. I replaced my fuel pump gasket and I believe it seated proper but I noticed I can still wiggle it and get a whiff of gas. Is the metal ring supposed to lock it down? And is there a way to make sure it will lock down all the way? Or a similar area in there that would cause an evap leak. Thanks 🙏🏽

Holding the Sun Roof Button and continue to hold the Button, the Sun Roof will go into Reset Mode, (full open /close) then close and Stop, Now let go of the Button

Those screws are T25, not T20.

My sunroof glass can be moved by hand, and it wobbles, why is that? all my screws are tight

Hey! Great videos btw! I watched both your sunroof videos and I'm still trying to diagnose mine. Right now it's sticking out of the car a bit and isn't flush. When trying to move the sunroof with the sunroof button the sunroof just starts clicking and gets jammed even more. Should I just take it apart, grease up the racks and then adjust it? Should that work?

Love the videos, used this and almost got mine fixed. Any advice on what to do if one of the track mechanisms( or motors?) are stuck? the drivers side in particular.
Theres only one main motor in the center of the sunrooof behind the panel with your sunroof switch. i had a similar issue with mine and after pulling down the front section of my headliner i found that my sunroof cassette had actually split in half and the worm gear that was driving the drivers side rail would push out of the cassette and not moving the sunroof. at that point you can either have the whole cassette replaced or in my case i used the motor to pull the worm gear back into the cassette and then used JB Weld steel sticks around the edge of the cassette let it harden and after a year and a half my sunroof still works with minor clicking sounds if i switch from venting to full open.
