- It's time to shatter the ten second barrier and speak at some length about albums I love. Here's part one in what will be at least a three part video series: my favorite albums of the 2010's. In this video, I talk about albums No. 30 - 21 on the list. Let me know below how you feel about these albums, if any of them mean as much to you as they do to me! I look forward to continuing on this list and talking about the rest of my favorite albums of the last decade. Enjoy!
Here's a playlist of all the songs that I featured in the video: • Favorite Albums of the...
Always love seeing a new long video from you Ruff! You always explain your thoughts on your album well on why you like them instead of the objective jargon keep up the good work! Also I just realized the way your camera is angled, it's like your talking to green toy soldiers on your desk lmao
Canonically all my viewers are now little toy soldiers

teenage dream from katy perry over GKMC is the kind of excellence i expect from this channel
my boy rly said teenage dream
I kinda like UV more (pos 30)
Did not expect Born To Die to land on this list but my jaw genuinely dropped. That album is also in my top 30, and this is the first time I’ve also seen it on such a list :)
It's genuinely absolutely amazing
9:00 'Real' is tied with "Sing About Me, I'm Dying Of Thirst" for my fav song on GKMC. I love that the chorus is repeated so much, the word entirely loses its meaning. I interpret it as Kendrick trying to justify the life he was leading throughout the album before finally realising that "none of that shit makes me real" and breaks out of the cycle after Dave's brother is shot. (Also can't get enough of Anna Wise's vocals).
Yeah I think having a simple chorus/hook isn't fully valid as a criticism, because often the simplest hooks can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the verse that came before or the musical accommodation or a bunch of other factors, and often a simple hook works well when the verses are dense and heavy
I am personally a bit on the fence about Real though, I definitely used to like it more than I do now. Maybe I should revisit it soon
Still boring
Dude hell yes!!! Nice to see longer content from you bro.
This list was great, can't wait for the next set of albums and their rundowns
The Exmilitary and Contra mentions are major. Hearing you talk VW made me feel valid. Solid thoughts all around and can't wait to see the next couple parts, Ruff!
Thank youuuu! What a great list.
I saw Gang of Youths live in a small venue and it was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been do. "Do not let you spirit wane" quieted the room in a way I've never seen before. Phenomenal stuff. Top 5 of the decade for me.
So glad to hear you love Gang of Youths. That’s my mate’s band.
When that record came out, Aussies loved it and they did well on the hottest 100 triple j countdown. They’re much loved here alongside with The Living End, The Temper Trap, Tame Impala etc.
The legend returns
Nothing to say, just showing my support!
Keep it up! Love these videos more than you probably realize!
always luv these longer vids
My god that’s quite a beard you have sir
That aint nothing😂
@@HipHopfan_ mans has a nice goddamn beard
I liked that. Also, you look really comfy. I'm gonna listen to some of those
Great content idea!!
love this video and the longform content! i tend to really agree with your music taste, my list is quite similar. gonna respond here just because i find it fun to go back and forth on this topic:
-Born to Die is my favorite Lana album, I also thought the hate was unwarranted. Glad she is getting her flowers now.
-I prefer Veteran to All my Heroes.
-GMKC has epic status, but good point about Real. Sing about me is insane tho, one of the best lyrical rap songs of 2010s.
-I think the 2010s were the golden age of indie rock, but I had different favorites than you (for example: Toro y Moi - Anything in Return and Local Native - Gorilla Manor, Beach House - Bloom). Alvvays is a great pick tho! Love dreampop. Vampire Weekend also great.
-I do agree with the Mac Demarco take, This Old Dog is also my fav. I unironically still enjoy all of this most recent releases, love the vibes. Think the haters are just expecting salad days pt 2.
-I agree that ctrl is a masterpiece, and I was really sad how her new album (SOS) is just trap bangers. I was hoping for a whole album full of Good Days vibes/introspection, but it turned out to be an exception rather than the rule. Feels like she didn't grow that much, but I understand going for the pop angle, glad she is getting her flowers. I also really liked Z, it was so chill. Go Gina and Prom are my fave from ctrl.
Looking forward to part 2!
I saw Alvvays live last year too… they were so good 💜 glad to see Antisocialites ranked here
Surprised to see Alvvays' second album being on your list and not their first. Their debut is just such a classic with so many hits. Blue Rev has been so fun and such a gift from them as well!
Looking forward to the next vid 🫡
Love the Japandroids teaser :D
this guy is so good
Teenage Dream above good kid m.A.A.d city is wild but respectable
welcome back bestie
Only 3 years late but appreciate the upload
YESSSS FINALLY
Good to see Contra ranked so high, that album is basically perfect in my eyes
Nice!
20:03 fun fact, we do know who that woman was! She's Ann Kirsten Kennis, who was photographed by Tod Scott Brody. They didn't use this with her permission, and she did sue the band. It did get dropped, but the counter sues by the bandmates have not
Gang Of Youths. So good.
I love Real on GKMC!

I know you’ve done longer videos before, but don’t feel restricted by your niche of quick reviews, i watch for you not because the videos are 10 seconds long

Yo, you should do a review on J Dilla's Album "Donuts" 🍩🍩🍩🍩 A great album!!!
I think death grips more than fill out their own shoes, I’d have to disagree with you there.
I own an official pressing of Exmilitary ;)
I think we should be called "Ruffians".

BASED CORNBALLS
CONTRA IS MY MINECRAFT ALBUM TOO. THAT IS INSANE THAT YOU SAID THAT WHAT THE FUCJ

All the Feels by Fitz and The Tantrums
Drunk by Thundercat
King Gampo by PROF

Sick Boy by The Chainsmokers
The Incredible True Story by Logic

This list gave me whiplash
Aside from AJR I like your list. (I know you are a big fan of them and that is ok) Fall of Hobo Johnson makes me feel sad about Hobo Johnson's Bitterness in 2021.
Chainsmokers and AJR are some bold picks
@@kipdaedricartifact Most of The Chainsmoker's stuff ranges from ok to terrible, but they genuinely struck gold with Sick Boy imo. Tracks like You Owe Me, Side Effects, Everybody Hates Me, Beach House, and the title track are genuinely really cool tracks that demonstrate their talents in ways that their other albums, while having some ok moments, didn't really do as well.
As for AJR, they are musical gods.
@@turboshazed7370 Fair.

You should Listen to Carly rae Jepsen's Emotion
Pretty cool to see Born To Die in this. I suspect that people, mostly men and critics, only started to seriously listen to her music because of Jack Antonoff's involvement in NFR, which makes me kinda mad, if i'm being honest. I won't go into the social politics of this but Lana has been making great music from the start, her music didn't just become good after NFR
You and James Acaster hey?
You needed to cut off the years so that thee masterpiece "in the aeroplane over the elfbar" by calmoneybeamgang
Funny seeing Alfo Media, James Acaster, and Ruff Criminal all agree on 2016 being the best lol
Exmilitary > any other DG album
Goddamn with Beware, Guillotine, I want it I need it, Lord of the Game and Culture Shock... Fuck. That's tough to decide.
Maybe not the most popular opinion but that’s how I feel!
W Young Fathers
