Hey everybody! Thanks for watching this video on "5 Albums to Expand Your Taste in Music". Lately I've gotten a lot of suggestions for more general, rapid-fire videos like this. There's a whooooooole world of weird subgenres within the greater, music landscape, and we're gonna try to preview a few of them. Please, for the love of everything, this video is not trying to go into crazy detail about the most authentic forms of these subgenres. This is simply meant to introduce people to this stuff that they might not know. Let me know what you think down below and thanks for watching!
Albums / Expand / Music / Taste / Tastes / Educational / Genres / Subgenres / Indie / Favorite / Intro / Math Rock / Experimental Hip Hop / Ambient Pop / Jazz Rock / Art Pop / Listen / Reaction / Tricot / Danny Brown / Air / Steely Dan / Moon Safari
dude, hear me out, what if u made a spotify playlist for people looking to discover new music... or just any playlist, really. I trust your taste heavily.
I really need this man
Watch fantano, thats how I find out about most good stuff
@@captainafro2310 what? What is that supposed to mean? A critic being overrated? Are you talking about him being the busiest? Is there anyone else who reviews as much stuff? I like Shawn cee but he just does hiphop stuff. Not useful in the least. Whereas melon has introduced me to swans, daughters, mount eerie, fleet Foxes and a lot more
hey I trust Alfo as well but for a video like this you can get a similar list of albums from the top charts on rateyourmusic.com. If you want to find top albums in genres it is pretty good, or you can dig thru top of all time charts until you get to something you haven’t heard before and read the reviews/descriptors to find out more about it.
Don't listen to playlists, listen to albums
1: Math Rock: TRICOT's THE CGPP
2: Experimental Hip Hop: DANNY BROWN's ATROCITY EXHIBITION
3: Ambient Pop: MOON SAFARI BY AIR
4: Jazz (Pop) Rock: STEELY DAN's AJA
5: Art Pop: BJORK'S VASPERTINE
Thankyou for saving me 10 minutes :)
@@realnegajpeg9935 the purpose is give people stuff they might not have tried and he literally says that they aren't the most underground/obscure albums. Naturally the suggestions aren't all underground as that wasn't he purpose.
@@realnegajpeg9935 tbf, you made a completely irrelevant comment
Thank you sir!
You mean Tricot?
I love experimental hip hop but I don't know why I don't have any female friends?
"yeah I have a lot of female friends. So what if they are all crackheads?"
i've touched a female's hand once
Alberto ; aye me too
Once you go experimental Hip Hop you can never go back. It's absolutely demolished my chances at a normal life, when I here pop music now all I can think is "this would be so much better if it sounded like shit".
LMAO
I am so happy you mentioned Bjork. She is incredible in the way she incorporates art, fashion, technology, and experiments with different songs in her music. She truly is one of a kind.
When Danny brown was brought up i AUTOMATICALLY thought of Ain't it Funny to this very day I haven't heard a song with that unique of a sound
One of my favorites from him is Ego Death ft Busdriver and Aesop Rock, but that's partly because Aesop is by far my #1.
@@-user_redacted- That track is fucking hilarious, the way Danny come's in at the end is amazing and made me laugh so much when I first heard it since I didn't know he was on it beforehand
shits like a panic attack
honestly kate bush changed the way i view music, she's still ahead of the musical curve 30 years later, and still can't be described by a genre.
any sort of quirky art pop musician from today owes their career to her.
I agree. It's funny when he was talking about Björk (who I love) I felt like he really should have mentioned that she's been hugely influenced by Kate Bush. Kate is a true innovator and a lot of art pop musicians owe it to her for paving the way with her wonderful work.
God i love Kate bush 😢❤️
@@Missjunebugfreak Kate is cool but I think some give her too much credit as she herself also had her influences (Laura Nyro is one of them, I think). Bjork did say she respects her and lists The Dreaming as one of her favorite albums, but I think musically she's too different.
Nader Abed
Dude, everyone have influences. Of course. And whether you were influenced or influential doesn’t really matter to the quality of the music, except that it changes the context of the music. Bottom line is that Kate Bush is an absolute genius :-)
here in uk she is called the first leading lady of progressive rock ,and the last of the originals
5 amazing albums i’ve been listening to a lot recently
Slanted and Enchanted- Pavement
Dio- Holy Diver
Deftones- White Pony
Pet Shop Boys- Behaviour
The Holy Bible- Manic Street Preachers
Respect for Deftones and MSP
Mad respect for shouting out MSP 🥺 my absolute faves!!!
respect for all 5, especially white pony
Yo have u checked out ohms?
@@cateatinrat78 yeah man it was fuckin sick... loved nearly every track, on my 8th listen already. wbu?
I can't listen to Bjork anymore cuz I got into Vespertine / Homogenic around when my ex-gf and I split up so now all the songs sound like they're about her. Feels bad
i’m genuinely sorry man it’s good shit
@@anthysis7059 This happened to me with Magdalene by FKA twigs. I hope time heals the wounds cause damnnnnn I loved that album,
That sucks dude. Maybe try a different album by her, maybe her post breakup albums (Vulnicura and Utopia) would fit.
My .. Heart .. Goes out to you 💜
That's awful. I hope you can listen to her again someday, especially Vulnicura and Utopia (in that order). I was amazed at the change of tone showing her healing between the two
Try LORN, his industrial trippy electro makes me feel things I cant say.
Its amazing
Didn't he have a song on LittleBigPlanet?
LORN is a god, anvil still gives me goosebumps
A Lorn @. Hello freind
Om Unit- Underated af
HTRK- Psychic 9-5 club and Summer Rain
Radiohead expanded my musical tastes more than any other band. From Burial to Arcade Fire, Four Tet to The National.
I listened to arcade fire but it didn’t hit me like Radiohead did
Same thing. Radiohead led me to discovered Kendrick Lamar to Bjork.
Aja is a masterclass in songwritting and arrangement. Also thank you for introducing me to Tricot. Definetely subscribing
My recommendations in no particular order:
Low - Double Negative [indie rock, sadcore, glitch-pop, art pop]
World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland [experimental rock, noise, glitch, breakcore, modern classical, post-rock]
Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz [experimetnal pop, glitch, noise, indie folk, electropop]
Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin [alternative hip hop]
Tarentel - From Bone to Satellite [post-rock, experimental rock, noise]
Mono - You Are There [post-rock, modern classical]
Envy - Insomniac Doze [post-hardcore, screamo, post-rock]
Mogwai - Mogwai Young Team [post-rock]
Süleyman Tekin Gürmen Glasgow represent 👌
If you like World's End Girlfriend, I'd also add Vampillia (since they are signed to his label). Can't even name the genre you just gotta experience it. They are definitely inspired by Joe Hisashi's music but also by Mr Bungle and black metal. Shit's bonkers!
@@mishab4065 It's a bit difficult to define what genre exactly WEG is known for, but some people do actually classify as post-rock because of no vocals and some rock instrumentation too (as Simon Reynolds said that the genre is best described as "rock music using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, using guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures rather than riffs and power chords" in his review on Hex by Bark Psychosis, the first ever post-rock album that coined the term itself) but most of the stuff that he in fact has done from Farewell Kingdom to his most recent mini-album Meguri is described as a hybrid between glitch and modern classical because of classical instrumentation like violin and cello and simultaneous skipping and chopping that 65dos would incorporate in their music. The point is that his music is genreless at one point, because he actually reinvents itself at each album (e.g. Ending Story was a glitchy plunderphonics record with IDM touches on tracks 2 and 7. But when we get to Hurtbreak Wonderland, it sounds like a completely different artist but with the same glitchy spirit of his earlier works.) This guy is very difficult to get into, and some people (who are not into the glitch genre and his music overall) might find his glitchy mix with classical and post-rock annoying. If you really want a great introduction to this guy, check out his collaboration with Mono, they released a handful of albums that can be considered post-rock. But yeah I understand your point.
Uknowwhatimsayin was lowkey more fun than atrocity. I see why critics would rate atrocity higher but for an avg music fan, uknowwhatimsayin is much more enjoyable.
Considering he already recommended Danny already, I recommend JPEGMAFIA-Veteran after Atrocity Exhibition, then The Money Store- Death Grips after Veteran
Albums that changed my life:
Death Grips - The Powers That B
Fugazi - The Argument
Lil Ugly Mane - Third Side Of Tape
Sweet Trip - Velocity : Design : Comfort
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....
Cardiacs - Sing To God
Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World
At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Stereolab - Dots And Loops
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind
Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You
NoMeansNo - Wrong
Mr. Bungle - Califronia
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Bitch Ass Darius - Follow The Sound
Todd Edwards - Prima Edizione
Portishead - Third
The Caretaker - Everywhere At The End Of Time
Miles Davis - Dark Magus
Aesop Rock - Skelethon
And endlessly more of course...
💕
Great taste, bro.
NostalgiaCritics the wall is life changing.
It makes want to end it
Lmao
And sir, here’s your medal for best comment of the year 👏🏅🏆🎖🤝
Ikr, why cant it be good as albums like Angelic 2 the core?
Oh...
LMFAO, I don’t know why this got me dying 🤣
Bruh you awakening all these homies with that Steely Dan Aja. I trust this man
got most of the vinyl from 70s
He said experimental hip hop and I thought he was about to recommend bladee LMAO
i’m happy he didn’t😅
Did he mention earl or MF DOOM
@@drehitemup9904 is DOOM considered experimental? I would lean more towards underground/alterante
@@MjSa-es4zu he's an underground goat, but definitely pretty expirimental. He's got one of the most unique deliveries there is, and the beats are far from traditional.
@@-user_redacted- thought he was more the king of abstract hip hop
My recommendations
Grimes - Art Angels (electropop , artpop)
Beach House - Depression Cherry ( dream pop, shoegazing)
Fontaines DC - Dogrel ( post punk)
Goat Girl - Goat Girl ( psych-rock, psychedelic, post punk)
Half Japanese - Charmed Life ( outsider music, experimental rock, lo-fi)
Mgmt - Congratulations ( psych-pop, experimental rock)
Art Angels is just otherworldly. Grimes is so ahead of her time. Even with Miss Anthropocene
I've been listening to Beach House for years and I never knew what exact genre they're called. First time I've heard of shoegazing, sounds pretty cool.
@@martinapetrovic159 halfaxa and visions is p great too!!!
Mgmt congratulations a masterpiece
@@joseyarur2369 yeah and their self titled is amazing too!!
Hearing björk - lionsong and rediscovering björk from my childhood, expanded everything of myself, I found music that made me feel at home. I made connections with new people through my love of the new music and I found myself helping myself with these music as a sorta meditative process.
This comment section is a safe place :)
My favorite hidden gem albums:
No-Man - Flowermouth
Bosnian Rainbows Bosnian Rainbows
Fishmans-Long Season
Spoon - they want my soul
Lemon Jelly - Lost horizons
Porcupine Tree - Lighbulb Sun
Devin.townsend- Ocean Machine
If you are a beginner..
MBDTF - Kanye West
In Rainbows - Radiohead
Another Green World - Brian Eno
Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads
Abbey Road - The Beatles
Everywhere at the End of Time - The Caretaker
SAW 85-92 - Aphex Twin
Heaven or Las Vegas - Cocteau Twins
VHS - CASTLEBEAT
Spiderland - Slint
Aja - Steely Dan
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Tago Mago - CAN
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Debut - Björk
Some of these have eclectic sounds embedded in them, would be a good start for a new listener to get into different genres and acquire a good taste in music...imo
MF Aphex Heads I think Caretaker type is for more focused listeners, that album takes a toll on you mentally, and is one hell of a listen. As for the essentials for some beginners, Bjork debut, Abbey Road, In Rainbows, ITCOTCK, and MBDTF are all great place to start.
there are sone great albums in that list but p much everybody loves the beatles, i don't think Abbey Road would expand your music taste by much(not that you shouldn't hear it), it's not even the most experimental beatles album.
I would add
Rush - 2112
Death Grips - The Money Store
The Dear Hunter - Act V
Oceansize - Frames
Igorrr - Hallelujah (mix of grindcore and electronic, very open mind needed)
Stolen Babies - (they have just 2 albums and they are all great, think girly pop meets alt metal)
O'Death - Out of Hands We Go (very dark and spooky country, they are a hell of musicians)
Tiger Lillies - Freakshow (think the internet's funniest shitpost but with circus music)
The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Clash - London Calling
Both essentials imo
In Rainbows is the best album I’ve listened to in my life. I’ve listened to hundreds too. Great suggestions though!
I'd pretty much heard of everything mentioned here but i was especially grateful for the Tricot shoutout because they're just amazing. I know some people are resistant to listening to music in other languages but tricot transcends that. They're so good at what they do.
So mine would be:
The White Stripes - Elephant (blues rock)
Foals - Total Life Forever (accesible math rock)
Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory (experimental hip hop)
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R (stoner rock)
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (neo soul)
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly (hip hop with countless influences)
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (disco/electronic)
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (nu disco)
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say That I Am, That's What I'm Not (punk/garage)
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (post-punk)
I love this list
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know my Name (Tech-Death-Prog-Neo-Melo-Black-Djent-Doom-Jazz-Metal)
Total life forever isn’t really math rock but fantastic album non the less :)
@@liamrobinson5303 I'd argue it's like a transition from the definitely math rock Antidotes to the more arena-oriented Holy Fire. There are still some shades from the debut, like those intricate riffs from After Glow and Blue Blood for example. It's beautiful.
Total life forever has that bit of transition from math in Antidotes (This Orient, What Remains and the absolute gorgeus end to Blue Blood) and the beggining of their Alternative and more accesible stuff from Holy Fire (Black Gold, Miami and TLF) however it comes to their most soothing and comforting sound and it’s own thing. Their best imo. Absolutely beautiful album
TLF 💙
As well as Jazz Rock, Jazz Rap is absolutely beautiful too. Loyle Carner is a perfect example of this especially his songs with Tom Misch imo
Steely Dan is easily one of my favorite bands of all time. From Aja to Can’t Buy a Thrill to Pretzel Logic, they can’t miss.
Prince, used to like uk band field music, some of their stuff is like the dan and peter gabriel
Idk if this will be seen or not, but here are five other “taste expansion” albums I recommend!
Ben Levin - People
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Default - California Nebula
American Football - americ anfootball (LP1)
MF DOOM - MM.. Food
Absolutely love sound of silver
Mf doom production might be the most abstract and versatile ever for me
let me hit you with some introductory metal albums for non-metalheads
Carcass - Heartwork (Super accessible melodic death metal)
Bathory - Self Titled (Probably the first bm album and still holds up. So fast and evil)
City Morgue - Hell or Highwater v1/ (crazy intense hip hop and every release they're getting even more metal and extreme)
Deafheaven - Sunbather (very pretty black metal :) )
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane (Melodic black metal, it's just good idk what to say)
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone (spooky scary stoner metal)
Greetings Beautiful soul (forgive me abit i know I am not exactly what you may have come here for ..) but my name is Ibn Orator...I am an Avant-Garde, introspective & Political Hip Hop Artist from New Haven CT. I've recently released a project titled "The Fishbowl Syndrome" that is centered around the topic of our mental health and how art is sometimes viewed here in America;to which my first debut music video "The Horse on a Trampoline" works showcase on the spectrum of my own experiences with it, that i feel fans alike of FKA twigs, Janelle Monae , EarthGang, Flying lotus, Childish Gambino or those of Bjork, Kanye West, Lady Gaga , Lupe Fiasco, & Vince staples may resonate with...id like to share this with you by giving a warm welcome to my Channel to not only, like and subscribe but to comment with genuine feedback. P.S. these times being hard is an understatement for alot of us ..so id like to say that i love you, if you haven't heard it from anyone and that things are about to change as they always do, for better or worse….#stayup!
Lovin' that deafheaven record!!
Lovin' that deafheaven record!!
Sunbather is in my top 10 albums. I'm so glad to see someone mention it :)
To extend,
Norse Folk Metal - Heilung;
Best Album; LIFA
Industrial Metal - Mick Gordon
Best Album; Doom Eternal OST
Lateralus by TOOL changed my life, especially when listening to the album as a whole. They’ve always been my favourite band but I never listened to the entire album as a whole until a few months ago. It’s one of the best albums ever made imo
good prog
5 random records
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (80's art pop)
John Coltrane - Interstellar Space (Free Jazz/Improvisation)
Double Leopards - Halve Maen (gorgeous soul destroying noise drone)
Mineral - Endserenading (90's emo that goes a little deeper than american football)
U.S. Maple - Sang Phat Editor (absolutely deconstructed noise rock)
Vespertine and Atrocity Exhibition are in my top five albums of all time lmao, great list tho
3:05 lol he said pp
Its hilarious how i found danny brown through a meme video. And from there, not only he is one my favourite artist but universally respected hip-hop artist. Really hope he blows up a bit more.
obscure music fans be like:
"so, no /mu/core? aight, imma head off."
I don't know how I haven't listened to more Björk because I listened to Homogenic almost a year ago and it was one of the most entrancing wintery-sounding albums I've ever listened to
Holy shit, AIR is awesome. My buddy referred to them as “elevator music you need on your playlist” and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s so calming yet emotional; I put it on when I need a good cry and when I need to fall asleep peacefully
Loved this. For Jazz Rock, I’d recommend Jaga Jazzist. Seriously impressive and listenable long plays.
even though i hate most of your music tastes naturally as it’s generally not my thing, i still love watching these videos because you’re so passionate about music
Another recommendation if you want something different is Heilung, which I highly recommend listening to in a car with a really good sound system. It's an experience like none other.
Yes I fucking love björk. Vespertine is gorgeous. I honestly want to get into more art pop music cause from the few albums I have heard from the genre, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them all.
When typing a search for a genre isn't enough and you have to rely on word-of-mouth for education...
Aja was a fantastic record, so glad steely dan got some love here.
You had me at Tricot! Great to see somebody give them love
I love 3 of these genres before watching this. I don't know many jazz rock really so im here for that.
Mac Millers faces is about as experimental yet true and raw as it gets
This is a wonderful video. Thank you.
I watched this video ageess ago to just take the first recommendation you gave and dip. I’m coming back because I’m so thankful for the tricot recommendation and want more. CGPP IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE AS WELL I LITERALLY SCREAMED WHEN I HEARD YOU SAY THAT RN. It gives me the vibe of the last episode of an anime series. It’s got an emotional feel especially with the slower paced guitars playing at the very start. Sometimes I feel like it should really be the last song on the album.
Thanks for this Alfo! Moon Safari is one of my favourite albums, but I don't know your other recommendations and I'm really looking forward to getting into them
Bless you for shouting out tricot, one of my favorite rock bands working today easily. Their albums 3 and Makkuro are my favorites, I need to go revisit their older stuff some more.
One of those bands that just doesn't have a bad release. You will really enjoy their older stuff! Also, they have a new album coming out October 21.
You introduced me to Moon Safari and for that I am thankful.
I think these are just the surface. People should really dive into the genres of traditional music around the world. Mande, Tishoumaren, Throat Singing, Nueva canción latinoamericana, Garifuna, Wassoulou, Andean Folk, Gamelan, Pinpeat, Qawwali, Chinese, Hindustani, Korean or Japanese Classical Music or even the most experimental of genres like Sound Collage, Musique Concrète, Electroacoustic, Field Recordings or Free Improvisation. To me, that means to truly broaden and expand the musical horizons
I made a playlist for those interested:
ua-cam.com/play/PLusW8IKpR4dPm6H4GOWwUogkuaApzs9Vp.html
have you got a playlist or anything for any of these genres? interested to listen but dont know where to start
@@spoonmerchant I don't, but I can make one for you if you want!
The Letter Bleeds would be a blessed gesture. i love listening to other people’s music tastes and recommendations dude
@@spoonmerchant ua-cam.com/play/PLusW8IKpR4dPm6H4GOWwUogkuaApzs9Vp.html there you go :). I chose three tracks per the genres I wrote on my comment, and they are listed in the order I mentioned them so you don't get lost. Thank you for your interest!
The Letter Bleeds amazing! thank you my dude
Thank you so much for this video! You've really opened my mind to a whole new world of music🥺
Imagine playing that Danny Brown album to ‘set the mood’ with ya girl
hey alfo, great vid as always i really like your taste and approach to music. However, could you consider exploring the electronic side of music sometime, stuff like Ambient, early Hip Hop/Electro, different variations of Techno, Synthwave, EBM, IDM and so forth. That is without naming the musical geniuses within this genre, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Nitzer Ebb, Soulwax, Tangerine Dreams, Carl Craig. Anyways hope you get to see this!!
I vouch for what he said about the Tricot album, it's such a good album. One of my favorites
Frank Zappa Joe’s Garage,
Smashing Pumpkins Adore,
Shpongle Are You Shpongled?
Kate Bush Hounds of Love,
King Crimson In the Court of the Crimson King.
I just want to toss a couple of albums that defined the taste i have:
Agætis Byrjun, ( ) & Takk - Sigur Ros (Post & Art Rock)
Total Life Forever - Foals (Indie)
Ti Amo & It’s Never Been Like That - Phoenix (Alternative)
Turn On The Bright Lights - Interpol (post punk revival)
The Fall Of Math - 65DoS (Post & Electronic Rock)
Disappointment Island - TTNG (Math rock)
Bottomless Pit - Death Grips (Experimental Hip Hop)
I have a couple more but these come to mind, cheers :)
Noisia - Outer Edges for anyone interested in crazy good Drum & Bass/Electronica sound design
I love how you don't get stuck in all-American music. What do you think about Moloko?
Steely Dan is my favorite band. The production and lyrics have great contrast
David Bowie often dipped into Jazz Rock throughout his career. My current favorite of all of them is from Blackstar and it’s called Lazarus
yea from a sane
I've been waiting for a video like this. Thank you.
A great tool for music discovery is playlists on Spotify. For example: Songs to Test Your Headphones With. It’s got experimental pop, underground hip hop, jazz, funk, ambient, vapor wave, rock, prog rock/jazz, etc...
Already listen to Björk and Danny Brown but I fell in love with your other suggestions too. Thanks man.
Tame Impala is a good recommendation, goes from psychedelic rock, to more pop and mainstream techno.
ALL of these are exquisite choices 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
First one that came to mind was king gizzard. Im so glad they exist
moses sumney is great for art pop too
Since we all recommending some different stuff; Cortex - troupeau bleu. Absolutely brilliant album but nothing like what I usually listen to. Which mostly consists of drum and bass and bassline.
Thanks for the video, I just subscribed and saved all these albums on Spotify! I know I like literally any genre of music (yes even country) so i don’t know where to start when wanting to find new music to listen to bc there’s just so much great stuff out there, so this was very helpful.
I feel like Marz Volta should be somewhere on this list but probably one if not the only topic of another vid. Either way great recommendations and summary for contrasting music genres and there appeal.
Thank you for Tricot. T H E is one of my new all time faves
Clicked and subbed because danny brown was in the thumbnail, he is very underrated and deserves far more recognition, thank you for representing him!
Do you know the other thing in the thumbnail?
I love this channel and I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m a little hesitant. I will follow up after watching.
Aja is one of my top albums of all time
Fuck yes, I'm so glad you recommended Tricot
Whatever genre Titanic Rising falls into, albums is amazing
I'll contribute with some easy going math rock for anybody interested (from friendliest to most intense):
Come to México - Totorro (France)
Angle - Elephant Gym (Taiwan)
Calm and clear - Via Luna (U.S.)
Canis Allegri - DJ Perro (México)
Mirrored - Battles (U.S.)
BOSH! - Cleft (U.K. I think)
my mouth dropped when Alfo recommended Tricot. They're so talented watch their Audiotree Live it so good :)

Did not expect the tricot recommendation! I think that’s a perfect entry into math for people that aren’t all too familiar with it
Vespertine is the greatest album I had ever heard and it still lingers. Vespertine perfectly shows the early 2000’s mp3 era of digital music such as Kid A, Trip Hop, etc
How are you not already a fan of Nothing But Thieves?? They have a new album out in October, but Broken Machine and their debut album are both STELLAR.
So glad you mentioned Steely Dan. They are in a league of their own when you actually take the time to get into them. Every album is amazing and no 2 songs sound the same. It’s been said many times that they have no bad songs and that’s very true.
Listen to The Royal Scam, Countdown to Ecstasy, Gaucho, and then the rest of their albums.
I see björk i click
no bjork
(oh my god i was wrong)
What do you think about South Korean indie music? Most notable acts right now are Hyukoh and So Se Neon I think. I was listening to some of it and I was thinking that it all had a similar sound, some jazz influences but a little “weird,” and my girlfriend said it sounds kind of like math rock to her. I really couldn’t tell for sure. It’s just interesting to me at least outside of Korea itself, you can seemingly only find pop or indie from there, and the indie music I’ve heard is kind of a more specific category of its own.
100 gecs - 1000 gecs and the tree of clues
just do it, don’t ask me after...
If anyone wants some smooth, jazzy, melancholy math rock check out Eternity Forever. Unfortunately they broke up after their first EP but damn is that EP good.
Didn’t expect to see tricot here though their music has changed a lot from the album you’re talking about
Y’all should listen to Folklore by Taylor Swift, no it isn’t pop nor country, it’s a poem.
i am good thank you
totally gauche album
Aidan Connolly uhm awkward?
Taylor Swiftie imagine listening to someone who called kanye the nword and who has a history of attending neo nazi gatherings 😬
undun n word? Nazi gatherings? What the actual fawk. So we’re not going to talk about how he publicly showed naked women bodies on his MV Famous? Or called Slavery a choice? Have you even seen his tweets 💀
this video is exactly what i was searching for :)
As a huge tricot fan, that is the number one album I'd recommend to anybody interested in them. Awesome selection!
Hey! Alfo, you should check projects from Latin America like Wet Baes, Klaatu Suuns, Tim Bernardes or Isla de Caras, and many many more. There are tons of amazing projects here and it should get a lot more attention that it does! Great video!
Also for more math rock, check out the band Covet, as well as Standards!!
I was hoping he would mention Covet! Their drummer in particular is amazing.
@@EpicFred1736 he also helped record some drums with Standards 🙂
I'd recommend Slint's Spiderland over the T-H-E album.
Post metal, listen to ISIS Panopticon.
Hip Hop, I always found TES' 2001 album X2 to still sound fresh.
For more dance music, Clark's Totem Flare is an interesting album. So is Seekae's Dome and their First album The sound of trees falling.
Always been a fan of Prefuse73's One word fire extinguisher too.
Lilea Narrative is also good on the glitch hop.
I saw tricot live a few years ago opening for Chon and they've been one of my favorite bands since. They rock so hard.
Thanks for this video. When I started listening to music a few years ago, hip-hop was the first genre of music I listened to. Sonn enough I found my playlist branching out into othrr genes of music. Last year I started listening to rock and metal.
Just yesterday I gave Otis Redding's The Dock of the Bay album a listen, and I was not disappointed.
It's always a good idea to expand your taste in music, especially when you look in the right places.
loved math rock , experimental hip hop and art pop
If you like Math Rock. Give a try to Thank You Scientist, his sound is jazzy and colorfull.
