Finally someone who is actually hearing it for first time ..your reactions are sincere and first time ...great job continue to build your musical portfolio
Great reaction to the kings of genre-bending and blending. This song is great and knowing how many more there are to be discovered, I’m excited. And yes, Robert’s vocals are instantly recognisable and amazing, always full of passion!
At 4:32 Dominika descibes the progression of this song correctly: CARAMBA! Truer words have never been spoken! Great reaction from both of you to this incomparable Zep song that still sounds fresh after 54 years. Thank you!
Yeah….look into that. Especially 1975 and after. There’s allot to delve into with these men. Lots of deep currents…good and bad. First 7-8 years (1968-1975) I’d agree completely.
I was in high school when this first came out. Having grown up on Led Zeppelin I and II, this album was such a departure from their ealier work, that many of us LZ fans were caught off guard by this work, which we quickly embraced. The same reaction occured with LZ fans when Led Zeppelin IV came out (e.g. When the Levy Breaks"). Then "Houses of the Holy" came out, and we were stunned again. I am 66 years old and will listent to and love Led Zeppelin to my dying days. The greatest band in the history of Rock. The Beatles were different. They were the Beatles and stand alone as well!
Have an old bootleg somewhere where Robert says, before they go into "That's the Way ", "were all going to trip now". HTWWW acoustic set is made for dosing
Although our wonderful hosts don’t say so, I think you need to make a donation in order to get in the queue. I could be mistaken, but I think that’s how they gatekeep massive numbers of suggestions. That’s absolutely their prerogative but I wish they would tell people that. Would avoid false expectations.
Thank you guys once again for doing my pick, love seeing you react to my favorite band of all time!… Yes, yet another side of Zeppelin, and still so much more to discover!… the thing about that band is they first and foremost, played music for themselves, what they wanted to play and what they wanted to hear. It just so happens that the fans loved it as well! And they were exposed to so many different types of music when they were young, whether it was blues or folk, or psychedelic, rock, Celtic, medieval etc. They took all those influences and created their own sound with it. Glad you enjoyed this one… more to come!
Please listen to the Led Zeppelin drummers solo from 1972 live (John Bonham “Moby Dick “ -name of solo. It shows his incredible speed and creative talent!!!! You’ll be impressed with joy. I love you both!! You’re a blessing to watch
It must have been quite a shock to Zeppelin fans back in 1970 when they released this album. In comparison to their first 2 albums this was a shift to a more 'pastoral' sound with lots of acoustic guitar. I think they thought it was going to be more of the same with Immigrant Song kicking off the album but then with the exception of 'Since I've been loving you' & 'Out on the Tiles' it was acoustically dominated. It is one of my personal favourites. I love Gallows Pole especially when the banjo kicks in. Zeppelin's light & shade at it's finest.
This vinyl album cover was unique in that it had cutouts and a spinning wheel that would change the pictures in the holes as you spun the wheel - so fun!
This a song that is literally hundreds of years old. Page and Plant were such students of music, naturally they were aware of it, and they had the balls to give it a go even though it's not at all what the record company or the fans would have dreamed. That was them. They weren't going to just record 200 variations of Whole Lotta Love.
A song on the 3rd album that starts slowly, with acoustic guitar, and builds and builds, and speeds up, drums come in, and a grand flourish. This song always feels like the template from which Stairway to Heaven sprang in the next album. TY!
I was 15 when this album came to me and my brother and I would sneak out at night with Dad’s car (we stole it) and ride around drinking slow gin and this is my absolute favorite of Zeppelin what memories ! I’m 70 now.
I taught my kids about classic rock, my mom taught me & them old Motown music. My youngest son is a music major, he plays several instruments, & is composing.
I just discovered your channel here today and I've been binging on your videos for hours. You two are the real deal, as they say. You're very genuine, very honest with your reactions and I really appreciate that. I love watching you and seeing your reaction to songs I grew up with, especially, like Simon and Garfunkel and The Righteous Brothers, and Zeppelin, of course. I'm sure I could come up with a few suggestions for 60s and 70s music, but even at my age I find myself drawn to bands like Tool. So may I suggest you try a song like Hate Me by Blue October, or something from Jane's Addiction or Alice In Chains.
Isn't that Bonham with the backup vocals??? it's one of the deep dive wonders of the Zeppelin universe...i've always loved this song and the banjo...great reaction; tho' i don't think i want to go to Romania anytime soon (kidding of course!!)...thanks guys!!
This is based around a 16th century English folk song. I am a similar age to Jimmy Page (guitar) and I learnt this song in school. I think Jimmy must have heard it in school. It must've been part of the English schools' music curriculum.
I believe this is Zeppelin’s oldest song that they perform. The origins of the song go back hundreds of years. Of course Zeppelin are the masters of modernizing those old tunes. This song slowly speeds up like another song off the next album, Stairway to Heaven. Even the drums come in later in both songs. Tangerine, the next song on the album, is a sweet song to check out. PS, A school of rock sounds like one helluva movie ;)
I love Dominika's comment about the history of this music being required learning in school. Love it, love it, love it. Have you two watched the movie "School of Rock"?
Would love to see you listen to some more John Denver. A less well known, but beautiful song is I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado. Also, song called Amazon from the Wildlife Concert. Love the Zeppelin reaction!

He writes great lyrics too. I remember back around the Now & Zen tour, mentioning I'd pay to listen to him moan to something pretty easily. Didn't need words...ever. 🙂
Robert changed up the lyrics at the end. The printed lyrics say that the hangman took everything and STILL hung him. Robert SINGS that the SISTER gets hung! ( Now I laugh oh so hard, she's swinging on the Gallows Pole!)

This song is based upon a traditional folk song. Peter, Paul, and Mary had their version that was called "Hangman". It's quite a bit different from the Led Zeppelin version...plaintive and in the end, tender.
Great comment on teaching kids about music history and appreciation! I was fortunate enough to discover this music as it was coming out at the same time I was learning to appreciate classical music as well. Led Zeppelin changed music behind the scenes. Before Led Zeppelin the creative output of bands was heavily influenced, even controlled, by managers, record producers and record companies. The Beatles and Rolling Stones for instance. Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant struck a deal with Atlantic Records to give the band total creative control, with Page as the record producer while Grant himself dealt only with the business side of the band. The best music of 1970s came from bands in control of their music. Grant also changed the relationship between bands and venues. Before Zeppelin, venues and tour entrepreneurs hired bands for a fixed fee. The cream went to the venue or entrepreneur. Famously, the Beatles were booked for an Australian tour when barely known and they arrived in the middle of Beatlemania. The entrepreneur made a killing. Grant flipped it. The band organised tours and paid a fixed fee to hire venues. Any cream went to the band.
Yeah, Grant and Zeppelin established the 90% to 10% split in favour of the artist for concerts. Indeed, the Beatles and Elvis were ripped off before. Grant wasn't having that.
Great reaction... PLEASE go back and react to Babe I'm gonna leave you the Studio track... You did the live version a couple of weeks ago & now do the studio version because it's a totally different listening experience from that live one you saw...IMO...

Simply the GOATS! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to the club. After I discovered Led Zeppelin my life was never the same again.
Their versatility was quite amazing ! No other band has that like them !
The music, especially the mandolin, evokes the feeling of riding and fleeing.
Banjo?
DAMN! Haven't heard this in a minute. FABULOUS
You will love "Thats the way" 😊
Let's just say it. Doesn't matter what song, they're all masterpieces.
One day, the Blues; Rock; & Folk all sat down & said : Let's bring forth a band with all our attributes.......then Led Zeppelin was born.
jimmy is a genius with production . self taught to doing his session work.
One of my favorite Zeppelin songs
Great reaction to the kings of genre-bending and blending. This song is great and knowing how many more there are to be discovered, I’m excited. And yes, Robert’s vocals are instantly recognisable and amazing, always full of passion!

You are both adorable you are my big fan
I think it's cool that you both like Led Zeppelin 😊
My favorite Led Zeppelin song from my favorite LZ album- and their most underrated album!
👍YES! AGREED! 👍
This is a cover of an old folk song. The original version is different, but no one covered the song as epically as Led Zeppelin.
LZ III is my fav LP.

Robert Plant has a voice that makes you feel ❤

So much talent. I like how their friendship kept them together year after year. Any one of them could have gone solo.

This is a cover/adaptation of an old folk song. There are many Led Zeppelin songs which are adaptations of old songs
You two are just lovely. Be kind to each other is important.
"That's the way" is a beautiful song as well. "Going to California", don't know if you already reacted to that, is a top ten for me.
LZ III is an underappreciated album. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite LZ album because I don’t have a single favorite. They’re all great.

Think I see my friends coming
Riding a many mile
Friends did you get some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me my dear friends
To keep me from the gallows pole?
What did you bring me to keep me from the gallows pole?
I couldn't get no silver, I couldn't get no gold
You know that we're too damn poor
To keep you from the gallows pole
Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while
I think I see my brother coming
Riding a many mile
Brother, did you get me some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my brother
To keep me from the gallows pole?
Brother, I brought you some silver
I brought a little gold
I brought a little of everythin
To keep you from the gallows pole
Yes, I brought you to keep you from the gallows pole
Hangman, hangman, turn your head awhile
I think I see my sister coming
Riding a many mile, mile, mile
Sister, I implore you, take him by the hand
Take him to some shady bower
Save me from the wrath of this man
Please take him
Save me from the wrath of this man, man
Hangman, hangman, upon your face a smile
Pray tell me that I'm free to ride
Ride for many mile, mile, mile
Oh, yes, you got a fine sister
She warmed my blood from cold
She brought my blood to boiling hot
To keep you from the gallows pole, pole, pole, pole, yeah
Your brother brought me silver
Your sister warmed my soul
But now I laugh and pull so hard
And see you swinging on the gallows pole, yeah
But now I laugh and pull so hard
And see you swinging on the gallows pole, pole, pole
Swingin' on the gallows pole
Swingin' on the gallows pole
Swingin' on the gallows pole
Swingin' on the gallows pole, pole, pole, pole, pole, pole, pole, pole
