So I got a sword with two different magical attacks - I've managed to activate the shift+guard+attack spell, but I don't understand how the other one is supposed to activate. I've managed it once or twice.
I can't thank you enough for this. I am a 50 year old PC gamer who trying this series out for the first time. I feel like a parkour master playing Dying Light 2 but in this game I was accidentally drinking my potions, auto-targeting people and getting killed. To be honest I was questioning my life of gaming since playing Ultima 1. Your key bindings are ace mate! Cheers!
The only tweak I made was 1 - 4, which you alluded too. I am playing an Astrologer, so this only made sense to me. I set 1 to spells, 2 consumables, 3 righthand, and 4 lefthand. Once again thanks mate, I can rest easy tonight.
Good luck! I am a 63 yo gamer and new to the Souls games as well. It is doable, eventho reflexes might be slightly slower at our age. I went for a mage build (Astrologer), ranged makes it quite a bit easier. And don't go straight to the next boss, explore the open world and level up as much as you can before taking on the next boss, especially at the start they are pretty hard to beat.
@@IAm-zo1bo I'm pretty fit but as you get older your reflexes will be a few milliseconds later, and this is a game where every millisecond counts. But you are right, the moves become predictable. I just die more often before beating a boss. ;-)
Cannot believe I didn't see the option for keyboard prompts. I thought the developers were idiots when it turned out to just be me. The settings and info are life-saving. Thank you, my man.

A major problem for PC souls players is to unlearn the controller layout when switching to m and kb. I think you have just made a lot of lives easier with this guide. Bless you big man!
I was already using a pretty similar kbm config (side buttons 4 & 5 assigned to heavy attack & skill though). But turning off auto lock-on and auto target is a real game changer, thank you very much for that piece of advice! 🙏🥇
Same here idk why the hell he's using q and f I use f for my potions and shit and q for locking on still and using 4 and 5 like you for heavy and skill.
Also I found that changing the switch armaments to all mouse controls was very helpful as I change stuff mid combat often and hitting 1-4 is kind o odd for me. My switch items (potions) is mouse wheel down, my switch sorcery/incantations is mouse wheel up, switch primary weapon is mouse button 4 or 5, and switch secondary weapons is mouse button 4 or 5, which ever is more comfortable.
@@mixandreo Hmm i have a logitech g203 (not a fancy mouse by any means) and it seems to have recognized it. Do you have another mouse to try with the game? And then, theres the unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in trick that may help to recognize the mouse buttons? other than that, I cant think of other fixes. Sorry :/
@@mixandreo be sure to select the key bind on the right side, not the left. we're used to the left being primary the right being alternate but in this game left is keyboard and right is mouse buttons lol
For me it feels more comfortable to use my up and down scroll-wheel to switch sorcery or items respectively and to use Z for left handed armaments and X for right handed armaments since I don't change my weapons that much, and having quick access to my items and spells is more vital for me.
This is great, I just started playing and was frustrated with the keyboard controls to the point i didn´t want to continue until I got my hands on a controller. This layout did the trick, back at it again :D Thank you very much!
Dude!!!! Thanks so much for this. I had switched a few things around, since it felt soooooo clunky, and my friends kept telling me I needed to use controller. But making all of these changes has caught me up in "skill" level with them, and I can move around so much better! Feels like how it truly should! You gained a new sub!

I use this setup: (you will need a mouse with two extra buttons on the side, which most mice have nowadays anyway) Switch Sorcery/Incantation: Scroll wheel Up Switch Item: Scroll Wheel Down Switch Right Hand Armament: E Switch Left Hand Armament: Q Attack (RH and 2H): Left Mouse button Strong Attack (RH and 2H): Mouse 5 (Forward mouse button) Guard (LH Armament): Right Mouse button Skill: Mouse 4 (Back mouse button) Use Item: R Even Action (Examine etc): F (if you keep this pressed you will bring up your pouch which i put health potion in the top/scroll-up slot and mana potion at bottom/scroll-down and call horsey on Left/Q slot) I changed everything else like he did for the most part.. once you get used to this you will find the scroll wheel is your new favorite friend..
There's (at least) one killer tip in this video: assign BOTH a key (e.g., Shift) and a mouse button (e.g., a mouse side button) to the same function of "Backstep, Dodge Roll, Dash". The trick is that when you want to roll (and keep rolling in various directions), you can use a W/S/A/D key together with a mouse button (since it's infuriatingly hard to quickly hit a W/S/A/D key together with the Shift key). However, when you want to sprint (e.g., charge-attack), it is actually easy to keep holding the W key together with the Shift key. *** Also, I prefer the left Alt key for "Skill", since it can be easily engaged with a thumb without taking your fingers off W/S/A/D to keep moving.

Just some advice: move heavy attack to middle mouse button. This way you can do sprint charged attack with wasd directional input. This is important if you want to use spears and poke enemies at distance utilizing spears' range advantage.
@Enthusiastic Aizawa You can't use precisely aimed charged attack with f button. For example, it's really hard to press a and d and f at the same time and dont mess up timing

Personally I like binding the 4 the switch armament buttons to the scroll wheel using scroll wheel forward, backward, left, and right. Does a good job simulating the dpad since all the directions line up.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't gotten the game quite yet (the frame rate drop issue still has me a bit worried), so I have been gathering tips and tricks to help prepare me in advance. Your video has the best explanation of keys and why you selected them I have found.
I found out that the pocket is bound as same as the switch armament section, so if you want to quick use the pouch just put some time to mess with it in setting
You can bind those separately I have memory slots cycle as 1 and consumables as 2 changes on pouch and since it separates mouse and keyboard binds you can bind left and right spots to 3 and 4 so you can hold e and 1-4 for pouch and doesn’t change weapon binds
In regards to the G502, I've found a few ways to optimize mouse and keyboard setup allowing both fluid and sensible gameplay. One of the things that bothers me the most is the innate mounted combat setup, where you are hitting right side with a left click and left side with a right click and trying to add in the heavies from there just becomes a nightmare. Along with the quick slot functionality that the "Event Action" key tries to provide. The thought is there, but the execution for keyboard and mouse setups is atrocious at best, especially on default. However, it is manageable especially more so with better than standard mice. If you have a back and forward side button mouse, this can still prove to be a nightmare. Though, the wired 502 is inexpensive enough in comparison to it's competition that it is rather accessible. Realistically, though, I don't feel this should even be necessary for the game to have better functionality than it does. Until FromSoftware does anything about these problems and rather extensively changes their lack of support, there are very few things we can do about it, but I've found a few semi-optimal setups: *Move* _Setup 1 - Setup 2_ Movement Control: Ctrl - Alt/V Backstep, Dodge Roll, Dash: Shift - Space Jump: Space - Shift Crouch/Stand Up: Alt/V - Ctrl There are two ways to go about this, with the alternative and my preferred layout, mostly due to my time playing kb&m exclusively on DS3, following the dashes. This leaves your most likely combinations easily accessible together regardless of the layout you choose. Walking (movement control) seems to be laregly replaced by crouching so an assignment on Alt or V allows accessibility with the same finger used for it's least likely partner - dodge - and easy access with crouch. Sprinting while crouching which can become tedious to utilize often if they share the same finger. Jump being on Shift may feel odd at first, but it's not utilized so often that it's difficult to press, and you will rarely if never use it together with crouching and even if you do likely won't require pinpoint timing. V could also be replaced with Alt in both scenarios and function well. Changing consistency of keystrokes with Space is far easier, and dodging tends to feel a lot more natural with it once you've broken old habits, but holding to sprint for long periods feels more natural with the pinky. However, and probably the biggest argument against this is that when you sprint on horseback you will be spamming the button significantly more, which you will spend plenty of time doing so Space for dodge and dash is more viable than it was in DS3. This also allows you to dismount while sprinting without stopping first. An improvement here would be being able to bind two keyboard keys, or maybe two for both, on each action so for things like Backstep/Dodge/Dash you could have two different keybinds for different situations, just as you have here. This would also be useful for the Event Action, but they would need to code in allowing removal of its bindings unless it's the last binding, or it would be annoying to navigate especially when working on an efficient setup for yourself. *Camera Controls* Reset Camera, Lock-On/Remove Target: Alt/V and Middle Mouse With setup 1 on the Move controls, placing Alt or V (and make crouch Alt) here allows a movement-hindering free way of locking on/off. This is mostly preference, but you don't want it to remove fingers from W, A, or D. Really, this is where most of the difficulty comes into binding. *Switch Armament* Switch Sorcery/Incantation: R and Mouse Wheel Up Switch Item: F and Mouse Wheel Down Switch Right-Hand Armament: 3 Switch Left-Hand Armament: 1 I have spells and items double bound so that you can hold F or R in a pinch to reset the cycle, but honestly using the wheel has always proven effective and you keep free range of motion. On the other hand, switching armaments can be more difficult. With the 502, you can also bind 1 and 3 to the side wheel buttons, giving you more freedom in that department. *Attack* Attack (RH Light): Left Click Strong Attack (RH Heavy): Right Click Guard (LH Light): MB5 (Forward) Skill (LH Heavy): MB4 (Back) Use Item: Z With the e502, I have the "Event Action" keybind also bound to the "DPI Shift" side button. So, E. You could essentially exclusively use this action on the mouse, but it will feel very odd in contrast to other games. Mostly, the reason for having it on the side mouse button is to maintain movement while switching weapon stances but I do personally like it for snatching items on the run. On that note, however, it may be difficult for people to hit the DPI Shift button and the Forward button at the same time (which 2-hands your left slot). For me personally, this is a non-issue. Having the attacks setup in this fashion essentially creates an arc on the left side of your mouse, and it spreads as such from left to right - Skill/LH Heavy - Guard/LH Light - Attack/RH Light - Strong Attack/RH Heavy. For standard combat this can be a bit odd to get used to but it is fully functional and still makes complete sense while on horseback. Innately, the keybind setup is lackluster as fuck on horseback, and this solves that problem while remaining relevant in grounded combat. I've spent just as much time in game playing with different keybind setups and on different mice as I have actually playing (about 70 hours now), and this is probably the most comfortable I've been able to make the 502 for myself. If we had hotkeys, an MMO mouse would likely feel good here. I would assume hotkeys would be limited. Say, the 4 quickslots you get with the "Event Action" and maybe quickslots for Gestures (would be nice to at least have a couple). Even a 6 button mouse would work great with that, but the lack of quickslots is one of the biggest things being held back in our keybind department. As well as the option for other binds on stance swapping. I believe, though, that the option should remain to keep the "Event Action" key the way it functions now for anyone who does like it. However, I do not. I would be fine without the quickslots, but from the beginning I hated having to hold E while trying to stay on the move just to swap stance. I've tried a controller, but I absolutely hate it as well. I'm more okay with not having a map or menu bind than I am some of the combat and movement hiccups and the need to combo buttons that can interfere with movement really hold the potential back for how smoothly we could be playing. The old "Two-Hand Weapon" keybind from DS3 would be an improvement here.
Perfect guide for making the game feel playable. Here are a few small changes I made: Personal Mouse sens in-game: 2 / DPI: 1600 Camera sens is still 0, like in the video Shift roll/sprint: Mouse 5 (instead of mouse 4) [so the front left on mouse instead of back left] Crouch: Mouse 4 [the back left button] Clicking C just felt a little unnatural to me. X felt more natural in the game but I agree with creator's comment that x is usually a prone key. Also just being able to dodge with the front of the mouse side buttons feels good cause I'm a tall guy with big hands. [Feels even better than rolling with shift tbh, shift just feels best for sprinting alone]
Thx...made a couple of adjustments - worked wonders...the only annoying thing now - the dodge is soooooooo slow. I guess just have to readjust from other games where there is instant roll to this where roll is happening half an hour after U push the button XD
The 1,2,3,4-binding was also my initial thought. But that does not work well with the pouch that shows up on long E. What works for me instead of using 1,2,3,4-binding is using Alt+ scrolling mid mouse button up and dowwn, and alt+right and left mouse button and then long E+Alt and as above. Advantages: 1. no shift use, 2. not interference with E+mouse for e.g. 2h. 3. Using E+Alt goes well with left hand. Otherwise you would have to use long E+1,2,3 or 4 which is not working smoothly.
The binds that have worked for me is Alt to sprint/dodge, F to interact, E to use item, M2 for heavy attack, M4 for guard and M5 for skill. Works perfectly and intuitively for me.
As someone that played dark souls 3 half game on kb+mouse and the other half on controller, I must admit that controller is the way to go since the pc port of this games is not to good. However with this game I would like to turn back on using kb+mouse if I can come up with some decent setup. I do feel though that dodge is far more important than jump and I would keep it on space, but then I would need a good key for jump since to land a running jump attack with space(hold)+F+shift+left click is kind of crazy.
You changed my entire experience with this game and with souls in general. Never expected that when I was looking for help playing this game with keyboard and mouse, lol. My dodge ability is a lot wider now.
Hey Demone, you have a G502 like myself. Instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, to change items, I used mousewheel up, mousewheel down, mouse wheel right tilt, and mouse wheel left tilt. It works amazingly well and intuitively makes sense. Just make sure the 'freespin' mousewheel button is not enabled :) I could not directly map the mousewheel tilts in the game so I went into the Logitech app and mapped mousewheel tilt to K and L and then just used those keys for the settings. We also have the two DPI buttons next to the left mousewheel that can be remapped to something as well, but I haven't done anything with those yet.
I alsi have a G502 and us new to the Ghub app. Can’t seem to be able to use all the buttons in the game. For example i mapped ”use item” to the sniper key on the left side wich works well but dodge on one of the side keys does not work while crouch works. Very confusing. Is there any good tutorial on how to make this work?
Hey D - Great video man I appreciate it! Movement & combat is much more intuitive now. I am still trying to figure out how best to add/change/use things like the horse whistle and the summons. As a pc player I would think I should be able to just bind it to a key but I am struggling on how to make it work in-game. Even just selecting arrows is a no-go for me with KB/M. Any chance you can do a quick run-through on how you have these things configured?

But you forgot how to control and setup your "hold e" hotkeys which let you use specific items/summons without having to go through the item list and hit "r" For example, if I "hold e + mouse wheel down" i summon my dogs but "hold e + wheel up" and i summon Torrent.

It was very confusing at first because i couldn't figure out how to parry and counterattack anymore. After trying some keys i found out it changed to rightmousebutton for holding the shield up and press F when the enemy attacked to counterattack. Thanks alot for these settings. This is indeed a improvement and makes the game a little easier.

Set key 1 to left hand and 3 for right hand. Set key 4 and mouse roll down for switch item, key 3 and mouse roll up forsorcery. For me works perfect :) If you have G502, do you have macro for Torrent call? Is pretty easy
Funny, pretty much setup all my keys almost the same! The 1,2,3,4 was in a different order for me. The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to use the weapon arts.... There doesn't seem to be a button for that in the keybindings

I came to this video trying to find a way to parry with a mouse and keyboard since I don't own a controller. I've only played the first Darksouls at 2018, and I only used the keyboard and mouse throughout the whole playthrough. I think around the 4-5 hour mark was when I really start to get used to the controls as intuitive as a game controller - I have tried Elden Ring with a controller but at a friend's house. It's interesting how we both came to a similar conclusion. I put backstep, roll and dash all into the shift key similar to how you have all of those actions condensed into one button on a controller. I use ctrl for crouch as that just feels more intuitive My strong attack is on the right, and guarding on the scroll wheel button Mouse button 5 to switch items, and mouse button 4 on the skill I do find switching between your left (bind to 1) right (bind to 2) hand weapons and sorcery/incantations (bind to 3 because there is not keyboard binding for item switching) all on the number row. Certainly feels more intuitive than using Z, X and C I still don't know how to parry with the keyboard lol
Elden ring's dodge input is based on when you let go of a button, not when you press it, so a neat trick is that if you set the dodge to a mouse button, you can set up a macro to press shift and then release shift and set the delay to 0ms so the dodge happens the moment you press the button. Idk about other mouses but logitech mouses let you do this with their software.

Great information here. I would like to add if you’re using a programmable keyboard and or mouse, you can create macros to 1 cast abilities or spells without having to sort through the menu to select them first. Do this by making your macro functions both select (by pressing the keys needed to sort to your chosen spell), cast it (having the cast function in the macro), and then resetting the menu position so all other macros have a starting point of reference. This makes me able to use potions, spells, abilities ect keybound to their own buttons and usable on a single press.
To hold a weapon with 2 hands instead of one - Hold E and left click (unfortunately no way to change this setting)

@@mixandreo Hmm i have a logitech g203 (not a fancy mouse by any means) and it seems to have recognized it. Do you have another mouse to try with the game? And then, theres the unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in trick that may help to recognize the mouse buttons? other than that, I cant think of other fixes. Sorry :/
@@mixandreo be sure to select the key bind on the right side, not the left. we're used to the left being primary the right being alternate but in this game left is keyboard and right is mouse buttons lol

For me it feels more comfortable to use my up and down scroll-wheel to switch sorcery or items respectively and to use Z for left handed armaments and X for right handed armaments since I don't change my weapons that much, and having quick access to my items and spells is more vital for me.
yeah in the end people will always have different bindings. some keys feel better for others. or some you're already used to

There's (at least) one killer tip in this video: assign BOTH a key (e.g., Shift) and a mouse button (e.g., a mouse side button) to the same function of "Backstep, Dodge Roll, Dash". The trick is that when you want to roll (and keep rolling in various directions), you can use a W/S/A/D key together with a mouse button (since it's infuriatingly hard to quickly hit a W/S/A/D key together with the Shift key). However, when you want to sprint (e.g., charge-attack), it is actually easy to keep holding the W key together with the Shift key. *** Also, I prefer the left Alt key for "Skill", since it can be easily engaged with a thumb without taking your fingers off W/S/A/D to keep moving.

Just some advice: move heavy attack to middle mouse button. This way you can do sprint charged attack with wasd directional input. This is important if you want to use spears and poke enemies at distance utilizing spears' range advantage.

Personally I like binding the 4 the switch armament buttons to the scroll wheel using scroll wheel forward, backward, left, and right. Does a good job simulating the dpad since all the directions line up.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't gotten the game quite yet (the frame rate drop issue still has me a bit worried), so I have been gathering tips and tricks to help prepare me in advance. Your video has the best explanation of keys and why you selected them I have found.
Pro tip: your left and right pocket slots are bound to shift+e+scroll up or down. With this you can mount and dismount quick or anything really.
I found out that the pocket is bound as same as the switch armament section, so if you want to quick use the pouch just put some time to mess with it in setting
You can bind those separately I have memory slots cycle as 1 and consumables as 2 changes on pouch and since it separates mouse and keyboard binds you can bind left and right spots to 3 and 4 so you can hold e and 1-4 for pouch and doesn’t change weapon binds
In regards to the G502, I've found a few ways to optimize mouse and keyboard setup allowing both fluid and sensible gameplay. One of the things that bothers me the most is the innate mounted combat setup, where you are hitting right side with a left click and left side with a right click and trying to add in the heavies from there just becomes a nightmare. Along with the quick slot functionality that the "Event Action" key tries to provide. The thought is there, but the execution for keyboard and mouse setups is atrocious at best, especially on default. However, it is manageable especially more so with better than standard mice. If you have a back and forward side button mouse, this can still prove to be a nightmare. Though, the wired 502 is inexpensive enough in comparison to it's competition that it is rather accessible. Realistically, though, I don't feel this should even be necessary for the game to have better functionality than it does. Until FromSoftware does anything about these problems and rather extensively changes their lack of support, there are very few things we can do about it, but I've found a few semi-optimal setups:
*Move* _Setup 1 - Setup 2_
Movement Control: Ctrl - Alt/V
Backstep, Dodge Roll, Dash: Shift - Space
Jump: Space - Shift
Crouch/Stand Up: Alt/V - Ctrl
There are two ways to go about this, with the alternative and my preferred layout, mostly due to my time playing kb&m exclusively on DS3, following the dashes. This leaves your most likely combinations easily accessible together regardless of the layout you choose. Walking (movement control) seems to be laregly replaced by crouching so an assignment on Alt or V allows accessibility with the same finger used for it's least likely partner - dodge - and easy access with crouch. Sprinting while crouching which can become tedious to utilize often if they share the same finger. Jump being on Shift may feel odd at first, but it's not utilized so often that it's difficult to press, and you will rarely if never use it together with crouching and even if you do likely won't require pinpoint timing. V could also be replaced with Alt in both scenarios and function well. Changing consistency of keystrokes with Space is far easier, and dodging tends to feel a lot more natural with it once you've broken old habits, but holding to sprint for long periods feels more natural with the pinky. However, and probably the biggest argument against this is that when you sprint on horseback you will be spamming the button significantly more, which you will spend plenty of time doing so Space for dodge and dash is more viable than it was in DS3. This also allows you to dismount while sprinting without stopping first. An improvement here would be being able to bind two keyboard keys, or maybe two for both, on each action so for things like Backstep/Dodge/Dash you could have two different keybinds for different situations, just as you have here. This would also be useful for the Event Action, but they would need to code in allowing removal of its bindings unless it's the last binding, or it would be annoying to navigate especially when working on an efficient setup for yourself.
*Camera Controls*
Reset Camera, Lock-On/Remove Target: Alt/V and Middle Mouse
With setup 1 on the Move controls, placing Alt or V (and make crouch Alt) here allows a movement-hindering free way of locking on/off. This is mostly preference, but you don't want it to remove fingers from W, A, or D. Really, this is where most of the difficulty comes into binding.
*Switch Armament*
Switch Sorcery/Incantation: R and Mouse Wheel Up
Switch Item: F and Mouse Wheel Down
Switch Right-Hand Armament: 3
Switch Left-Hand Armament: 1
I have spells and items double bound so that you can hold F or R in a pinch to reset the cycle, but honestly using the wheel has always proven effective and you keep free range of motion. On the other hand, switching armaments can be more difficult. With the 502, you can also bind 1 and 3 to the side wheel buttons, giving you more freedom in that department.
*Attack*
Attack (RH Light): Left Click
Strong Attack (RH Heavy): Right Click
Guard (LH Light): MB5 (Forward)
Skill (LH Heavy): MB4 (Back)
Use Item: Z
With the e502, I have the "Event Action" keybind also bound to the "DPI Shift" side button. So, E. You could essentially exclusively use this action on the mouse, but it will feel very odd in contrast to other games. Mostly, the reason for having it on the side mouse button is to maintain movement while switching weapon stances but I do personally like it for snatching items on the run. On that note, however, it may be difficult for people to hit the DPI Shift button and the Forward button at the same time (which 2-hands your left slot). For me personally, this is a non-issue. Having the attacks setup in this fashion essentially creates an arc on the left side of your mouse, and it spreads as such from left to right - Skill/LH Heavy - Guard/LH Light - Attack/RH Light - Strong Attack/RH Heavy. For standard combat this can be a bit odd to get used to but it is fully functional and still makes complete sense while on horseback. Innately, the keybind setup is lackluster as fuck on horseback, and this solves that problem while remaining relevant in grounded combat.
I've spent just as much time in game playing with different keybind setups and on different mice as I have actually playing (about 70 hours now), and this is probably the most comfortable I've been able to make the 502 for myself. If we had hotkeys, an MMO mouse would likely feel good here. I would assume hotkeys would be limited. Say, the 4 quickslots you get with the "Event Action" and maybe quickslots for Gestures (would be nice to at least have a couple). Even a 6 button mouse would work great with that, but the lack of quickslots is one of the biggest things being held back in our keybind department. As well as the option for other binds on stance swapping. I believe, though, that the option should remain to keep the "Event Action" key the way it functions now for anyone who does like it. However, I do not. I would be fine without the quickslots, but from the beginning I hated having to hold E while trying to stay on the move just to swap stance. I've tried a controller, but I absolutely hate it as well. I'm more okay with not having a map or menu bind than I am some of the combat and movement hiccups and the need to combo buttons that can interfere with movement really hold the potential back for how smoothly we could be playing. The old "Two-Hand Weapon" keybind from DS3 would be an improvement here.

Perfect guide for making the game feel playable.
Here are a few small changes I made:
Personal Mouse sens in-game: 2 / DPI: 1600
Camera sens is still 0, like in the video
Shift roll/sprint: Mouse 5 (instead of mouse 4) [so the front left on mouse instead of back left]
Crouch: Mouse 4 [the back left button] Clicking C just felt a little unnatural to me. X felt more natural in the game but I agree with creator's comment that x is usually a prone key.
Also just being able to dodge with the front of the mouse side buttons feels good cause I'm a tall guy with big hands.

Thx...made a couple of adjustments - worked wonders...the only annoying thing now - the dodge is soooooooo slow. I guess just have to readjust from other games where there is instant roll to this where roll is happening half an hour after U push the button XD

The 1,2,3,4-binding was also my initial thought. But that does not work well with the pouch that shows up on long E. What works for me instead of using 1,2,3,4-binding is using Alt+ scrolling mid mouse button up and dowwn, and alt+right and left mouse button and then long E+Alt and as above.
Advantages: 1. no shift use, 2. not interference with E+mouse for e.g. 2h. 3. Using E+Alt goes well with left hand. Otherwise you would have to use long E+1,2,3 or 4 which is not working smoothly.
The binds that have worked for me is Alt to sprint/dodge, F to interact, E to use item, M2 for heavy attack, M4 for guard and M5 for skill. Works perfectly and intuitively for me.

As someone that played dark souls 3 half game on kb+mouse and the other half on controller, I must admit that controller is the way to go since the pc port of this games is not to good. However with this game I would like to turn back on using kb+mouse if I can come up with some decent setup. I do feel though that dodge is far more important than jump and I would keep it on space, but then I would need a good key for jump since to land a running jump attack with space(hold)+F+shift+left click is kind of crazy.
You changed my entire experience with this game and with souls in general. Never expected that when I was looking for help playing this game with keyboard and mouse, lol. My dodge ability is a lot wider now.

Hey Demone, you have a G502 like myself. Instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, to change items, I used mousewheel up, mousewheel down, mouse wheel right tilt, and mouse wheel left tilt. It works amazingly well and intuitively makes sense. Just make sure the 'freespin' mousewheel button is not enabled :) I could not directly map the mousewheel tilts in the game so I went into the Logitech app and mapped mousewheel tilt to K and L and then just used those keys for the settings. We also have the two DPI buttons next to the left mousewheel that can be remapped to something as well, but I haven't done anything with those yet.
I alsi have a G502 and us new to the Ghub app. Can’t seem to be able to use all the buttons in the game. For example i mapped ”use item” to the sniper key on the left side wich works well but dodge on one of the side keys does not work while crouch works. Very confusing. Is there any good tutorial on how to make this work?
Hey D - Great video man I appreciate it! Movement & combat is much more intuitive now. I am still trying to figure out how best to add/change/use things like the horse whistle and the summons. As a pc player I would think I should be able to just bind it to a key but I am struggling on how to make it work in-game. Even just selecting arrows is a no-go for me with KB/M. Any chance you can do a quick run-through on how you have these things configured?

Only thing that worked for me is creating a macro. It basically simulate pressing two buttons to access the pouch.

But you forgot how to control and setup your "hold e" hotkeys which let you use specific items/summons without having to go through the item list and hit "r"
For example, if I "hold e + mouse wheel down" i summon my dogs but "hold e + wheel up" and i summon Torrent.
you can put dogs and torrent on your equipment wheel. so whatever button you use to cycle your potions can also be used for dogs/torrent

For faster swapping I’d recommend putting switch sorcery on Z, item swap on C , and then left and right hand swaps on the thumb mouse buttons

I'm at level 55 now and feel like I'm getting pretty good without the controller.
It was very confusing at first because i couldn't figure out how to parry and counterattack anymore. After trying some keys i found out it changed to rightmousebutton for holding the shield up and press F when the enemy attacked to counterattack. Thanks alot for these settings. This is indeed a improvement and makes the game a little easier.

Set key 1 to left hand and 3 for right hand. Set key 4 and mouse roll down for switch item, key 3 and mouse roll up forsorcery. For me works perfect :) If you have G502, do you have macro for Torrent call? Is pretty easy

The 1,2,3,4 was in a different order for me.
The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to use the weapon arts....
There doesn't seem to be a button for that in the keybindings
The annoying thing is the D pad is used for other things in the game....
I wish we could map the E+D-pad combos independently too.

I came to this video trying to find a way to parry with a mouse and keyboard since I don't own a controller.
I've only played the first Darksouls at 2018, and I only used the keyboard and mouse throughout the whole playthrough. I think around the 4-5 hour mark was when I really start to get used to the controls as intuitive as a game controller - I have tried Elden Ring with a controller but at a friend's house. It's interesting how we both came to a similar conclusion.
I put backstep, roll and dash all into the shift key similar to how you have all of those actions condensed into one button on a controller.
I use ctrl for crouch as that just feels more intuitive
My strong attack is on the right, and guarding on the scroll wheel button
Mouse button 5 to switch items, and mouse button 4 on the skill
I do find switching between your left (bind to 1) right (bind to 2) hand weapons and sorcery/incantations (bind to 3 because there is not keyboard binding for item switching) all on the number row. Certainly feels more intuitive than using Z, X and C
I still don't know how to parry with the keyboard lol

Elden ring's dodge input is based on when you let go of a button, not when you press it, so a neat trick is that if you set the dodge to a mouse button, you can set up a macro to press shift and then release shift and set the delay to 0ms so the dodge happens the moment you press the button. Idk about other mouses but logitech mouses let you do this with their software.

Great information here. I would like to add if you’re using a programmable keyboard and or mouse, you can create macros to 1 cast abilities or spells without having to sort through the menu to select them first. Do this by making your macro functions both select (by pressing the keys needed to sort to your chosen spell), cast it (having the cast function in the macro), and then resetting the menu position so all other macros have a starting point of reference. This makes me able to use potions, spells, abilities ect keybound to their own buttons and usable on a single press.
