- When I was still Amish, the whole community, and especially my family, tried so hard to keep me from leaving. There was a lot of guilt tripping, sending me letters, offering me free housing, and even trying to get me into an Amish mental health facility!
I was very confused for a while, but with the help of God and the Bible, I realized the Amish were decieved themselves. I finally left completely. And the Amish community has shunned me.

The Amish made an attempt to kidnap and institutionalize me in an unlicensed Amish mental healthcare facility because of my faith in Jesus. Thankfully the police intervened and God delivered me out of a life of living in constant fear of man on that day!
The Amish leadership does need to be held accountable for living above the law and for suppressing and oppressing their people. God commands us to submit to government authorities, but the Amish leadership meets privately with government officials to protect their religion and speak for the entire community whether anyone agrees with it or not.

I am not Amish, but I am proud of you for finding the strength to leave that way of life. As you stated, you can not just blindly do what you are told… you need to be able to think and follow your own thoughts. Once anyone tries to prevent you from thinking for yourself, they are not trying to help you, they are trying to control you.

I believe you experienced what Jesus taught in Lk 9:23,24. I strongly believe that "his (her) cross" is what we suffer for following Him, obeying Him. Thank you for sharing! Listening to your story it sounded exactly the same as mine… I mean exactly! Word for word….. I leaned on God and God only to lead me to him & not away… I didn’t know which way to go. & he showed me through scripture. I grew up reading the Bible, but over the 2 weeks of searching him out, genuinely, he unveiled my eyes to his truth. It was incredible. The day I 100% received him as my lord and savior & ONLY him, I felt an immense amount of joy and peace, among all the sadness & chaos going on around me I still felt so sooo happy. Because I knew i was on the right path. It was so hard to let go of family and everything I knew…I knew how my family felt when someone left the community, especially when you were baptized & married into the community already. I seen how they treated ppl like that.. & now I am one of those ppl & I stayed away from them because I already knew how they felt? So why would I make an effort to let them know that I still love and respect them if they wouldn’t believe me anyway? If they were just going to scold me and feel fear with every word I would use? I chose to stay away and not reach out to anyone because that’s what God was telling me to do at that time. It’s been 5 years now & living out a life guided by the Holy Spirit has been a journey! A very interesting journey…. I have learned soo much!! About what love actually looks like, spiritually.. I have since then reached out to a couple different family members only because God prompted it. I pray for them everyday. Things are going better, but they still don’t see me for who I am new in Christ yet. Which how would they? If they keep choosing not to invite me into their life? It’s truly the saddest, but I will never stop showing Jesus’ love to them through me. I will never bow down to their level again just because that’s what THEY think is right.

I grew up in a strict church that holds the Amish in high esteem. I was also guilty tripped and told I was crazy when I married out of the church (but a Christian) . Islam also teaches that one is born Muslim and cannot change as well as to obey and never ask questions. It's very interesting how Satan works

I had a similar experience, only I left the Roman Catholic church. To this day my family ostracizes me for following Jesus. Roman Catholicism is paganism. They believe you are saved through the church, the pope or Mary. Their Jesus is a different Jesus.

I live around an Amish community and it breaks my heart knowing they are lost. Im so glad you were able to understand the truth and get away from that bondage and I am sorry you are not able to have a loving relationship with your family. One thing I would advise you on is to search diligently about which Bible version is really God's Word. There is such division about this in the Christian faith. There are over 200 Bible versions out there and they do not say the same things. There can only be one true Bible and I submit to you that it is the KJV. All the others are very deceptive, perversions. Ask God to show you the truth. God has inspired and preserved His Word in the King James Bible. All the others are the devil's works. No, it is not your salvation, but wouldn't you want the whole truth, not just partial? I ask this humbly of you. Please search it out and God bless you in your new life of freedom.

I have only heard of Amish community being from an asian country. In India we believe in the acceptance of every religion and freedom to choose what they believe in. Really proud of you for sharing your thought process. I hope your acceptance in all beliefs continues and spreads to others around you.

As a Jew I must say I have viewed the Amish with a certain mystique. However I see plenty of things from them that are very much cult like.
Many Amish are just as lost as others in that they won’t accept the free gift of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Imagine, not accepting Jesus as the one and only Messiah.
Jesus is the Truth, the Light and the only way to Heaven . How can someone say they love God and not read His whole word, the Old Testament AND the New Testament ! 🥰🍉🏊♀💗✝

Watch out for other cults outside Amish too. Mormonism, Calvinism (predestination and other seemingly nice but actually very dark doctrines) Southern Baptist Convention is cultier every year as it becomes more and more obviously a voting block than a gaggle of related churches. It's a mess out there. Also I have been watching someone called The Knitting Cult Lady here on UA-cam that has helped open my eyes to the cult of white supremacy that every American is in or influenced by, created by necessity to prop up the chattel slavery economy, beliefs so strongly held that it took the ending of slavery and then the civil rights movement a century later to convince most Americans that black people are our neighbors too and deserve respect and dignity. Its really opening my eyes, not in a scary way, but like this kingdom of cults isn't like this for no reason. Once a person has been indoctrinated into a cult's worldview, if they never deconstruct that and build their own identity they will hop into the next cult that gives them peace or belonging, and I think all Americans are born into this white supremacy cult without even knowing it and the white first worldview is so pervasive in our culture that nobody ever thinks they need to deconstruct anything. I would share with you 1 thing, and you have no need to heed me in this if it is counter to your faith, but I would advise using a king James version; I say this because I was raised with the (KJV) and I am rooted baptist, (Ephesians 4:4-6,Malachi 3:6 + Hebrews 13:8, Psalm 119:89 + Psalm 12:6-7 + Matthew 24:35 + I Peter 1:25).

God Bless you! Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. I'm surprised they tried to say Amish is a firm foundation, Jesus clearly said God's Word, His Word is the firm foundation. Anyone who hears Jesus' words and does them is building on solid rock. Matthew 7: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” - And as the great hymn puts it - On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand... all other ground is sinking sand.
I’m sure they are hurt that you left and don’t know how to make sense of it,that’s why they wrote those letters. They’re trying to make sense of it in their own minds. I’m sure you love them and they love you and maybe over time, when they’ve had a chance to think about it for a while, they’ll have some peace with it.
Maybe they will be glad to know that you are happier than if you would’ve stayed.
Regardless of the religious aspect, families get hurt when members leave.
I think I understand why they cling to their way of life; some people need a certain security - they need their understanding of reality to be orderly. I know that because I’m one of those people. I’m not Amish nor do I live in any sort of community like that, but I yearn for it. I know, however, that nothing is as complete as I would wish, so I won’t be wandering over to Bruderhof, or Amish anytime soon. I would love it if they would let me, allow me, to have community with them.
I could also contribute in someway, but I couldn’t live in a situation or I felt like I was always being examined. People that grew up in the community probably don’t feel that way because it’s just normal to them.

It's better just to go to the New Order Amish. They don't have excessive rules and are very evangelistic and mission-minded. They seem to really have the best of both worlds. Regular churches do not offer nearly as much support as the New Order Amish or the Beachy Amish. Probably the Amish would shun someone who left the horse and buggy lifestyle altogether, so that's why I say the New Order Amish. I have been close to conservative Mennonites for the past 18 years and would join if I lived close enough to a church. Still, I spend at least 2 weeks every year visiting the conservative Mennonites whose town I used to live in. I know a bunch of "low" Amish who left and had home church with them for several years. They refused to join the Beachy Amish and have not done well. They don't have the skills, education or family support to succeed. They have fallen for various scams and fanatical teaching, yet they didn't want to join the Beachy Amish because they had rules, which were sensible. They wanted no rules because they thought they were useless unless the Spirit led. What about immature and foolish people? They need guidelines, and if all the families agree on the rules, it gives consistency. It makes me extremely sad to see how poorly my ex-Amish friends have fated, despite their proclamations of zeal.

The community I grew up in does not drive vehicles, but a lot of them have phones. Some are not allowed to, but most of the youth have one anyway.
My husband will be sharing his story of how he became Amish for a couple of years, then left and became an Amish taxi driver. That is how we met.

Having left 63 years ago, little has changed. The tactics are the same. Few people outside realize the persecution that is aimed at you. After leaving and meeting others that had left, I asked them about stories circulated after they left and found the the stories were made up. The gossip machine is aimed at you and you may well know none of it.
The good news is Jesus has been my Lord and saviour for many years. PS: it was Troyer Amish church. Curious where you came from.
Is there a settlement called the Truyer Amish? And where are they located? I was raised old order Amish in the Middlefield, OH area.
@@AmishTransformed Troyer Amish began about 1931 as a result of Swartzentruber, the most well-known branch of hyper conservative Amish going from a 3 1/2 inch hat brim to 4 inch. There were other issues, but the break is defined in a book called "Unser Leut." The way it came down was harsh, to say the least.
I know Amish that have left and have been accepted by their families and others that talked about leaving and ultimately were afraid to make the break. The fear is real and for young women the economics of it is almost impossible. The young men can find trades work and make very good money. Unfortunately the young women are pretty much in an economic trap.
I think More Jesus, Less Religion sounds like a great moto to live by in all our lives. The Holy Spirit moved you to seek God and to know the truth. Pray that the Holy Spirit moves the hearts of your family, and other Amish people, to know the truth, to seek Jesus our Savior. Also, I would guess, deep down, your family misses you too. They are too blinded by traditions, rules, and legalism to realize how much they miss you.
We are to judge righteously and not hypocritically, try not to get caught in the "we are not to judge no body" crowd; the Amish and those like it (even though the Amish came out of the Mennonites, both were name after their founders) must have the hypocritical one.

But why would a head covering even be mentioned in the Bible if it means the hair? Most women wouldn't simply go and shave their head; so "every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonored her head" means something more than her hair is to cover her head. There may also be the viewpoint that that was something observed by the women of Bible times, not something still necessary today. But if we go that route, where do we start and where do we stop with what is necessary or not? Shouldn't we simply observe everything taught in the New Testament?

No, the point of rumspringa is to find an Amish partner to settle down with and marry. The youth who are in rumspringa are still Amish while rumspringa. In my community, we had parties or singings that we could choose to go to on the weekends. And since I was not baptised into the church, the church can not technically shun me, but my family can choose to shun me, and that is what happened.
