Hi! Thanks for the great and long video! Awesome work on the research, it's pretty accurate! Also: thanks to the fans commenting below for the kind words. It gives us strength to carry on :)
God damn the nostalgia is real with this one! I miss the simplistic era of browser games so much. It wasn’t about having the best graphics or the most amount of content. They were just fun games at their core and sometimes that’s all you need from a video game. Burnin’ Rubber, Redline Rumble, Lose The Heat and Drag Racer V3 were my absolute favourites.
No. I have never forgotten Burnin Rubber. This series has been stamped into my brain to the point where I could never forget it even if I tried. Great video though!
These games were my childhood. Especially BR4 and BR5. I didn't know BR6 was in development, nor the existence of BR Multiplayer. Nice video and thanks for the update on the series!
Burnin' Rubber has been an integral part of my early days on the internet. Not even JUST Burnin' Rubber, actually, a good amount of racing games from Shockwave were, AND still are! Burnin' Rubber, Drift 'N' Burn, RC Laser Warrior, Sunset Racer, Oversize, Oversize XXL, Redline Rumble, all the way to Ignitro City! 200MPH, Age of Speed, Open Wheel Grand Prix, the list goes on. Thank you so so much for covering this. It was an absolute nostalgia trip and a joyride of a video.
I want to learn guitar purely to cover the race theme from 200MPH Night Show :D I also played the hell out of Drift n Burn 2 My Racer and RC Laser Warrior(which I have long been trying to remember the name of)
@@ianwhite2264 Sounds like a plan! These games didn't have alot of tracks but they were definitely memorable. I didn't have many actual PC games so sites like Shockwave and Miniclip were pretty much my entire world. RCLW is still playable by the way, got all the cars a few months back.
4 to 6 hours of content? From a broswer HTML game? That's legit more content than modern racing games like NFS and such if you ignore the cutscenes in these modern games which YOU SHOULD. Seriously modern days now struggle to go up to 10 hours at best and that includes the cutscenes which is pathetic.
This is one of the few flash games that I remember so clearly to this day, or well, series, because Burnin' Rubber 3, 4 and 5 were absolute bangers that deserve a hall of fame section for flash games. Thank you Shockwave for introducing me to lots of incredible flash games at the time and thank you to everyone that made Burnin' Rubbber what it is today
I remember playing so many Shockwave racing games, Burnin Rubber, Sunset Racer, Redline Rumble, Rally Point, Traffic Slam, FFX Runner and FFX Racer, that BMW X3 driving game and Go Kart Go. I miss those days.
As a Sonic and Racing games fan, this video is a moutain of nostalgia and history, shockwave and flash where the best back in the day, nowadays the gaming market as changed where huge AAA companies offer "free" games like these sites used to do, good ol' timez
Micro Machines(1991) lets you race with motorboats, helicopters, tanks and more while Micro Machines is way older than Burning Rubber or GTA III or any GTA game.

I honestly forgot these types of games existed so watching this video was a nice refresher for me. I almost forgot how fun these web browser games were back in the day. They were short and simple, yet still very fun games to play. There was this one flash skate game that I used to play as a kid. Its been a long time so I had to look it up to see if I could try to remember it. Luckily I did, and the game was called Street Sesh. I don't know if you heard of that game before. But it was such a fun little skateboarding game. I used to play that game a lot when I was younger, and I had some great memories playing it as well. I don't know if these web browser games are still as popular as they were back then or if they need to make a comeback. But one thing is for sure. They brought us a lot of joy and fun. And I'm glad you covered these types of games.
ZipZaps RC were my gateway drug into RC racing , back then youd get a ZipZap , then a Xmods and after that a Kyosho Mini-Z. After that youd get into club racing and I never left... 14 years later.

Can't believe someone actually made a video about Burnin' Rubber. I played Burnin Rubber 5 and Crash N Burn A LOT when I was younger. I almost forgot about those games. I really need to replay some of these games. They literally are my childhood.
These games have been locked in my memory, i only remembered playing them, paint jobs for certain cars or parts of a track, i can't believe i found them again thanks to you
I remember having nostalgia of burnin rubber 3 a year ago and decided to download it for the fun of it. Couple weeks later, I found out that there was a hard mod for it and downloaded it. Best and worst decision I have made.
Your story with these games is almost the exact same as mine, what a nostalgia trip! Family not having a lot of money, time period, the XP computer, all the websites, the "introduction game" to the BR series... Honestly I thought that nobody would ever remember these games, let alone make a video on them. I spent so many hours on these flash game websites that even my 2000+ hours now in some games would probably pale in comparison.
BR4 is absolutely goated. As a kid, an open world racing game with actual progression system and customization options that you can play On the freaking web seemed so cool to me. Felt like a mini Need for Speed or something haha. This brings me way back. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for this video, I kept searching for a racing flash game that had a R34 Skyline and BMW M6 for years and years, now I finally know what its called, I played the first Burnin Rubber so many times back in the day.
bro no joke i was playing the new burnin rubber multiplayer game just a few weeks ago, there were no players online but it was still fun to mess around for a bit by myself, crazy to see you make a video about one of my favorite childhood franchises :D
Excellent overview and analysis. The Burnin’ Rubber series provided so much nostalgic fun and injected ‘soul’ into the racing, worlds, and awesome weapons. It’s a hidden or forgotten gem amongst other Flash racing games. I’d like to see how Burnin’ Rubber 6 turns out.
My man, thank you so much! I have an early childhood memory of playing the game in 2:41at my friends house. For all these years, I couldn't remember anything about it except for a black car on a highway being chased by cops. Thanks to your vid and some google lens I was able to find it! (It's apparently called Lose the heat 3: highway hero ) - and when you mentioned that Zip zap racer - that's a game with a similar significantce for me. So again, thank you for putting out a small brain bug of mine. Sometimes help comes from the most unexpected places 🙂
I only played spinoff "Burning Rubber Crash n Burn" I didn't know about this series, but this game become a monolith in my memory. Also I'm definitely shure I played similar racing game with guns, but this game was nothing like in this video and I'm shure it was before flash games.
That small scene from the rc cars leaving the garage at 22:58 reminded me of a memory I thought was long lost. Thanks. I knew the "Redline Rumble" name sounded familiar.
I remember this game all to well in my childhood. From the school pc in free time to our own laptop at home. Great video! And I'm from the Netherlands myself so that makes this story even better!
This made me remember a car game that i played the hell out as a kid but totally forgot about: crashday. that was fun, racing and you could have guns, a track creator i spent evenings on. good times.
About time burnin rubber, getting the recognition it deserves. I used to watch a bunch of burnin rubber videos when I was younger, just seeing cars with guns shooting up each other blowing up. It just seemed so awesome to me back then. This game even gave me my love for car combat games. With it still my favorite game Genre to this day.
You should look into Hot Wheels: Extreme Racing, its a great version of the race with different vehicle types aswell as weapon mechanic. You could change from car to plane to boat mid race, was a childhood favourite of mine. Released all the way back in 2001 on PS1!
I recognised that this video was gonna be about Burnin' Rubber INSTANTLY. I never expected that you would make a video about this, since barely anyone seems to know about this game anymore. I loved this game a lot as a kid, though I also barely really played it much. I played BR5 quite a bit and that's all I really remember, but Crash n' Burn was definitely my most played game when I was a kid. I'm really excited that they're making a 6th game now, can't wait to see how it will be
Why did me and this guy have the same childhood gaming experience. Dad had xbox and ps2, hes the one that got you decent games every so often, but grandpa had the cool computer setup with the billy badass broadband modem. Gobless brother
This is one of those games from my middle school days where I don't remember playing it but I recognize the visuals and know that I have played it at some point. The weapons, menus, powerups, and gameplay are all familiar to me.
Back in 2010/2011, me and my brother would sit at our family desktop computer and play either BR3 or BR4. Thanks to the weapons that were added from 3, my brother would be managing the firearms on one side of the keyboard while I would manage the driving on the other side and we would have great fun. My favourite memories were the bosses in BR3, especially the tank you had to fight at the end 😎 These games were our childhood and I imagine for a lot of others as well.
Never heard of this series but now I'm looking forward to a sixth entry. Everything about indie game development has completely changed, it's like we're on a different planet.
I absolutely liked this video, Burnin' Rubber was THE game i used to hammer my time out on when i was a kid, always playing the Burnin' Rubber 3 and 4 after coming from school
You should check out burnin rubber 5 mods, most notably burnin rubber 5a made by mars jetblack. It completely redesigns burnin rubber 5s campaign, adds dual guns like in 3 and 4, and alot more including flying helicopters. I have some old videos on it if your curious
Burnin' Rubber 4 was awesome, played the hell out of that while blasting Bodies on the background. I also played a lot of one where you drove a Caterham over an infinite wood bridge, that was quite fun.
i remember playing burnin rubber and other flash racing games when i was like 3/4 years old, i'm almost 19 years old and most of them still have a special place in my heart forever
This is epic - I am genuinely surprised and happy! This is a great video and retrospective. Pretty accurate as well! We really hope we can deliver with 6 as well! Thanks for the video!
Holy crap I completely forgot about burnin rubber. Those were good times! burnin rubber 5's ending was the coolest I ever felt playing a flash game lol
14:25 I remember renting some racing game from Blockbuster for the PS1 that basically worked like the Sonic Racing Transformed game, where different parts of the track trigger you changing into a boat, car or plane. I've tried to remember the name but I really don't
I remember there being another good racing game on Shockwave that I can't seem to find now. It had formula-like cars, tracks free-floating in space, daily missions and a track editor. I remember that one of the ways to cheese points for daily goal was to build a downwards corkscrew track and skip no more than 2 layers at a time (or it'll respawn you), but it also had a really decent handling model.
I used to play Traffic Slam all of the time as a child. And yes I mean the original. I have no idea where it is anymore and I really wish I could play it again. That was one addicting game to play.. I also played Burning Rubber 3 so so SOO MUCH! However, there was one game I played, and I loved this game, and I was crushed to find it was no longer available. The game was called Carbon Combat. It was a multiplayer, shooter, driving game. Where you take a car that can fly (with a similar animation to what you would see in Back to the Future Pt.2) and with a gun on the top of the car. It had TDM, CTF, DM, and likely other gamemodes too. I loved that game and honestly wish I could play it again.
This is truly was a well done video! The only Burnin' Rubber game you forgot to mention in your video was BR: Catapult, but it's fine because it's not that important anyways
Hey fastminer07, I REALLY like your content. Watching you videos is such a vibe. Keep up the great work. Oh and also, can you do a video about NFS shift 1 and 2 unleashed? That would be SO COOL.❤
I once had a racing game on flash i used to play... now its probably gone forever only my few memories remaining, i dont know the name, i dont know who made it, i dont think i cant even describe it, but it will always be a part of me
FUCK YEAH A BURNIN RUBBER VIDEO ESSAY THIS ROCKS!!! This is very well done and a good trip down memory lane with these games :] And I still remember how fucking hard the dumbass truck boss fight was in BR 3 and how it would get stuck in that one turn and barraged him with missiles lolll I think this is the only video about BURNIN RUBBER series like this. Fucking awesome dude
More great flash racing games. Anything by smokoko, the drag racer series, that hot wheels shark game, the nickelodeon demo derby game (ill get a name), road wolves, probably more but i dont have my computer rn.
That BR3 startup sound hit like Crack. I damn felt like a little kid again hearing it. And I have the Standalone versions of BR3 and 4 on my Laptop as well.
To be honest, I miss most flash games. Also, flash games are much better than mobile games. I enjoyed Burnin' Rubber when I was young. I was happy to hear that Burnin' Rubber 6 is now in development.

Now that you've made this video, it has become a good memory unlocked
Man, this was a nostalgia trip. Makes me want to try out the steam game since I never got around to try it.
i remember playing burnin rubber and other flash racing games when i was like 3/4 years old, i'm almost 19 years old and most of them still have a special place in my heart forever
i am so glad that there is still people who remember this game!
I remember the boss battles the nostalgia of my crappy childhood comes rushing back
I really love this game as a kid with a brick family PC, I can't believe they were making a 6th installment. I'm kina excited for it.
Jeez, I stared at the thumbnail speechless for a bit. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly what the video would be about.
Burning rubber 3-5 and Jak X are two of my favourite racing games of all time
This is epic - I am genuinely surprised and happy! This is a great video and retrospective.
Pretty accurate as well! We really hope we can deliver with 6 as well! Thanks for the video!
OH MY GOD THANK YOU! I forgot the game I loved so much back in school was Redline Rumble!
Ohhhhh man this was my childhood. Played 3 4 and 5 constantly. I never beat any of them though so it might be time to change that
Holy crap I completely forgot about burnin rubber. Those were good times! burnin rubber 5's ending was the coolest I ever felt playing a flash game lol
Holy finally a vid on burnin rubber i loved that series when i was a kid
I honestly couldn't tell ya, maybe the LegacyShockwave or Flashpoint guys might know
Did the car you drive have a Miniclip livery?
Sounds like Drift n' Burn 2?
That's the game. Drift n' Burn 2
@@adgamehead that's it, thanks mate. I had a hell of a time finding it.
Man I remember the game at 2:42
Holy hell I played that so muchhh
Oh yeah, I haven't found a good way to replay it, but I really want to cause it was great
@@Fastminer07 can you please tell me what it's name is i have been searching for it for a long time
@@asb6493 Me too
Lose The Heat
This is truly was a well done video!
The only Burnin' Rubber game you forgot to mention in your video was BR: Catapult, but it's fine because it's not that important anyways
you made me remember all the times i'd play redline rumble on my school's imac g3, least until the website turned into pay to play.
Always amazed to see more videos on Flash and Shockwave.
Hey fastminer07, I REALLY like your content. Watching you videos is such a vibe. Keep up the great work. Oh and also, can you do a video about NFS shift 1 and 2 unleashed? That would be SO COOL.❤
I've got something big cooking for NFS
@@Fastminer07NO WAY
Redline Rumble and Burnin Rubber brings back some good memories 👌🏿
I once had a racing game on flash i used to play... now its probably gone forever only my few memories remaining, i dont know the name, i dont know who made it, i dont think i cant even describe it, but it will always be a part of me
FUCK YEAH A BURNIN RUBBER VIDEO ESSAY THIS ROCKS!!! This is very well done and a good trip down memory lane with these games :] And I still remember how fucking hard the dumbass truck boss fight was in BR 3 and how it would get stuck in that one turn and barraged him with missiles lolll
I think this is the only video about BURNIN RUBBER series like this. Fucking awesome dude
you would NOT understand HOW MUCH i've played traffic slam 3 back then
i remember dumping hours as a kid into burnin' rubber crash n burn
Excitebots trick racing for me, sadly I've never played burnin rubber
More great flash racing games. Anything by smokoko, the drag racer series, that hot wheels shark game, the nickelodeon demo derby game (ill get a name), road wolves, probably more but i dont have my computer rn.
Smash palace
That BR3 startup sound hit like Crack. I damn felt like a little kid again hearing it. And I have the Standalone versions of BR3 and 4 on my Laptop as well.
Really good video man. Keep it up. Also, do you have any plans on making videos on games based on racing series like NASCAR, F1, NHRA?
Oh yeah, I've got plans to, although other creators like Raycevick have already done a pretty good job with the F1 series
@@Fastminer07 Nice man. Looking forward to it.
To be honest, I miss most flash games. Also, flash games are much better than mobile games. I enjoyed Burnin' Rubber when I was young. I was happy to hear that Burnin' Rubber 6 is now in development.
