When Fred Astair saw him perform the Moonwalk at the awards show he contacted Micheal and said hiw impressed he was. Micheal was blown away by the compliment!
I've always been a massive fan of this move 10:57 that he always did. Look at him and then watch again and look at the dancers...they can't even do that properly. Man, I was 8 at this time and trust me the entire freaking world was a fan of MJ. To us kids we were so in awe of him we thought he was mythical and almost immortal or something. Such an exceptional human being. I've admired him all my life. Kissed by God he was.
I actually got to live a Michael Jackson fan's dream from start to nightmarish finish. I saw my first J5 concert at 4 years old and saw him/them repeatedly over the years of my childhood. Against all odds (the way of getting tickets was beyond ridiculous), I had a front row center seat for the “Victory” concert at Dodger Stadium. I caught the shirt MJ ripped off of Randy and threw into the audience (I still have it with his fingerprints in makeup on it). When I was at college in Tennessee, I flew home to L.A. for the last two dates of the “Bad” tour TWICE (MJ got sick in November and the dates were rescheduled for January) and I was in the first 10 rows both nights at the L.A. Sports Arena. In 2002, I got to go to Neverland for 5 days. (Chris Tucker and I became friends before he was famous, and we were working together - I’m a writer - on getting some of his ideas down on paper at the time; it shouldn’t be a surprise that we didn’t accomplish much there lol). So I actually got to see Michael Jackson be a regular dad. The Arvizo kids (Gavin put MJ on trial in 2005) were with us (Gavin’s sister Davellin was my roommate at Neverland as we were the only two females in our party of seven). I formed an independent relationship with that family and knew that MJ was going to be arrested 6 months before it happened, so that whole thing was just TORTUROUS. And then, years later, I was working with Jamie Foxx as he prepared to host the BET Awards in 2009. The planning for the show started at least a month in advance... and then MJ died three days before the event. Everything that was in the script went right out the window. Making things even worse, it was happening in the Shrine Auditorium (where MJ won all of the American Music Awards and Grammys for "Thriller" in 1984, and also where his hair caught on fire). In three days, with sleepless nights and a herculean team effort, that show was pulled together as a tribute to MJ. But we were all constantly on the verge of tears. We could feel his spirit in that place and having to constantly refer to him in the past tense just KILLED everybody. I was physically exhausted when that show was over, but the emotional toll it took on me was much worse. Seeing Janet backstage - before she went out and said what she said - was just… I don’t think I got out of bed for the next four days - at my parents' house, in my childhood room that once had walls covered with MJ's face - after that night. RIP Michael Jackson. You were a part of my life from the point that I can remember even being alive, I bought “Thriller” the day it came out, and some of my fondest memories have you in them. I’ll love you and miss your presence in this world forever.
@@setonhillstudiosAll of it is 100% true, but I wish that last part wasn't 😩. Dealing with his passing would have been hard enough without being in a work situation that required me to keep it at the forefront of my mind.
I remember when I was in school in 1987 there was something like a feud in my class between the fans of Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. Girls were always arguing who the best was. I just loved Michael Jackson, I was the only one in my class. He was unique, he's the very first artist I listened to back in the day, and still today he's on top of my preferences
Most MJ fans know he was a serious student of all the great dancers who came before him, but I’ve not seen any reactors, when talking about the iconic lean, mention The Wizard Of Oz. Michael was 2 years younger than me- us kids in that era knew that movie inside and out. When the Tin Man is first introduced and performs his first song and dance, he does the lean. I know how Michael did it- no idea how that was done in 1939 for the Oz movie, but I think it must have influenced MJ’s replication of the impressive dance move. Really fun watching you watch this, Steven. And now… Thriller!
Of course, this is off the Bad album, which is my favorite album of all time. People don't realize that the Bad album laid the foundation and created the blueprint that every musician has followed since. This album completely revolutionized not only pop music, but eras, performances, concerts, and visual art. It quite literally popularized the "visual album.” Everyone talks about Thriller, deservedly so, but not enough people talk about the impact and influence this album has, and it's only because it was his follow-up to the biggest selling album of all time. This album and this era, to me, is what solidified Michael as the greatest performer and musician of all time. I’d honestly recommend each video from the album, but if anything, I’d start with the short film for Bad. It was directed by Martin Scorsese and also gave Wesley Snipes his big break in Hollywood.
He also idolised Fred Astaire and bought a house next door to him so he could drop by and visit … many of Michael’s dance moves go back to Fred but Michael brought those moves up to date as he did on Smooth Criminal
LOL I used to try to do that lean next to my sofa. And then I looked up how he did it! I won't ruin it for anyone but it's on the web and very clever!!!
Each of Michael Jackson's videos for the "Thriller" album made history in some way: "Billie Jean" broke the color barrier on MTV, "Beat It" is epic and iconic and set the tone for any number of videos that came after it, "Thriller" was an early long-form video that was shown in theaters. All are worth watching!
Yeaahh, some Jackson 5 would be fun, when he was really little, 'ABC' , 'One More Chance', 'I'll Be There', or when he was older and it was just The Jacksons with 'Blame It On The Boogie', which is still one of the most fun songs ever, he always had that voice and those moves, just born with 'em. Thanks, this was fun. ✌❤
For me, I'm not the biggest fan of his music (just not my style), but his dance moves are amazing. He took a lot of inspiration from Fred Astaire, an actor from the Golden age of Hollywood. Fred did a unique combination of tap and ballet, alone and with partners, and was phenomenal. And he actually loved MJ's moves, really praised his talent, which I can imagine really made MJ feel good! You should check out some clips from Fred Astaire movies. He danced on the walls and ceiling in the movie Royal Wedding, and on roller skates in Shall We Dance. I grew up watching him dance, and I see his moves when MJ dances!
Remember the Time ..... Another classic video / short movie featuring Michael , Eddie Murphy, Iman Magic Johnson to name a few. ALL of The Jackson 5 from the very beginning, starting with the Ed Sullivan show when Michael was 8 or 9 years old in 1969.
Michael came up with the idea for the "Annie" in the song while attending a first aid course. And "Annie" is none other than the "Rescue Annie", the standardized doll on which you practice heart-lung massages. And when you give first aid, you speak to the person first and ask if they are ok. In this case, you ask the doll "Annie are you ok? Are you ok Annie?"
👏👋🙌🎶‼️lifetime Michael fan. No one on the planet cared more about giving perfection by dedicating time and energy to achieving it. He always tried to best himself cuz there wasn't anyone close to him to compete with. Michael and Janet grew up watching old movies so a his musical videos are short films not videos. He took a CPR class once and the dummy was named Annie. You always have to ask someone you might attempt CPR on by asking you are okay? Then combined that inspiration with a Fred Astaire movie from the 30's. This is a clip from his movie Moonwalker. As far as those he chose to work with and for him had to be first rate to have the work ethic he needed. I've often thought being a MJ dancer would be the best and worst jobs there are. Best because you were good enough to be chosen to dance behind Michael and learn and grow, but the worst because who can tear their eyes off of Michael to see you?
Agreed. Famous story during the 'This is it' rehearsals the Daniella rueda Watts mentions that during 'Jam' she warned the dancers to not watch MJ cos _you will lose focus_ and they laughed it off. When MJ started dancing famously they all *FROZE* lol it's on UA-cam where she explains. MJ was the greatest no question.
When MJ was writing this song, he was having trouble with the "chorus." Until he was looking around and saw his CPR doll. Back in the day, we'd have a full body CPR doll called Annie, and #1 step was to shake the doll and say, "Annie, are you ok?" And that how MJ came up with it in his song. You'll have to watch "This Is It." It's a documentary of MJ rehearsing for the final concert but he passed away before going on tour. I learned through the Conrad Murray (found guilty of killing MJ) trial, Earth song was the last song MJ sang in rehearsal before going home. The clothes he wore that day was still on his bathroom floor (crime scene photos). I can't watch "This Is it" The Earth Song the same anymore after watch the Conrad Murray trial.
@setonhillstudios I edited this comment to add more. The CPR doll named Annie, MJ was interviewed by Barbara Walter's (I believe) and she asked him about the song and that's the story he told her. It interesting how artists come up with certain songs.
This is actually from the movie " Moonwalker" and Annie is an actual character in the movie. When they cut to the scene with the children, Annie is the little girl.
@T1000-s4j okay, I had to do my research, and I was wrong, but now I'm confused because they kidnapped Katie right after this scene, and the whole time, I thought she was Annie, so now I need to know who the heck is, Annie. Thank you for the info!
@@lameekabrown6294 okay so I did read many years ago and I have just double checked again in case through the years it had changed but no it still says that this is actually who Annie is in the song …and I did do First Aid …Annie is the CPR dummy that we practice on and we do say things like Are you okay Annie!!!
This video is a small segment from the concept film Moonwalker, which had a guest appearance from Joe Pesci as a drug dealer. When we were in health class in school, we had a CPR dummy that we called Annie, and the first thing we were supposed to say before we started CPR was, "Annie, are you okay?" So, when this song came out, it reminded me of that.
"It's like watching a movie" Well, this 'music video' was part of Michel Jackson's movie 'Moonwalker' (1988) where he becomes 'Poptimus Prime' among other things. I'd check out the entire movie for the full experience. Yes, Michael Jackson was the king of Pop, but to understand that title you need to know the second place, Prince. T o compare, try Fred Astaire's 'Putting on the Ritz' in his movie 'Blue Skies' (1946) and the other one where he dances on the ceiling. For some reason I can't find a full version of 'Putting on the Ritz' on UA-cam any more.
MJ is a phenomenon but he’s still in the shadow of ELVIS. Elvis is a movement…a happening…a time stamp…a Legend. Long live the King of music, ELVIS, and the king of pop, MJ.
When my late husband and I would come home from work, probably 1983 we would turn on MTV and hope they would play a Micheal Jackson video. You young people don't realize that seeing these people perform could be the first time you were seeing them.
Another artist that incorporated dance was MC Hammer. Not only did he have the moves but he is the only RAP artist that does not use profanity, references to sex or drugs or bash groups because of race, ethnicity or religion. Can't Touch This is probably one of his most famous songs. Back in the day, my friends and I would go to the club and dance to this. If you did that, you didn't need to go to the gym. How times have changed. If I tried those moves today, I'm sure I would break something. ua-cam.com/video/otCpCn0l4Wo/v-deo.htmlsi=lQypt5mlaMKWJebd Enjoy! BTW, the pants are parachute pants and the dance where MC Hammer shimmies sideways is called the Chinese Typewriter.
I sincerely want you to do one of my favorite 79’s tunes by The Chi-Lites called “Oh Girl” Do the version titled “oh! Girl-chi lites 1973 feat. Eugene record”
Love Michael Jackson, so what I'm about to say is in no way down playing what MJ did, but people need to check out a video on UA-cam where there is back to back footage of Elvis Presely and Michael Jackson. It shows Michael Jackson's moves and then it shows Elvis' moves.....Elvis did these moves, including the moonwalk before Michael. The video clearly shows that Michael's dance moves were directly influenced by Elvis. Nothing wrong with that. Michael took Elvis' moves and kinda tweeked them a little to make them his own. Again, nothing wrong with that, but I thought MJ fans should know that his moves were not unique. There are other videos out there showing how much influence Elvis had on MJ. From clothes, dance moves, album covers, music videos, song titles, and even things in his personal life mirror Elvis through and through. Even Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presely, in her book, From Here To The Great Unknown, admitted what everyone was thinking. She too said that while she was married to MJ, something he did in public made her think that he only married her because she was the daughter of Elvis Presley. Again, not being disrespectful to MJ. I truly am a fan of his, but thought I'd share this info. Take it as you will, the proof is out there. All you have to do is look. I've watched die hard MJ fans react to the videos I mentioned above and watched as their jaws dropped and how their whole perspective of MJ changed. MJ was a brilliant artist in his own right. Sorry if I have offended MJ fans. That was not my intention. Just thought that people should know. Thanks. Great channel. Love your reactions.
Let's Gooo! You should check out Dirty Diana live it's fire 🔥 Check out Trooper Here for a good time. I won't stop bugging til you tell me it's on the list. 😅 Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏 BTW Thriller is insane 😳 I was not so much into pop but I do love Michael ❤️

MJ is brilliant but… Watch Bob Fosse in “the little prince” So yeah…. Didn’t invent a lot of these moves, Fosse changed dance forever. And mj was hugely influenced by him. And he did credit fosse. MJs greatness isn’t debatable. But credit where it’s due.
You're clearly uninformed because Michael always gave credit to the artists who inspired him, from James Brown, Fred Astaire, Sam Cook, Sammy Davis Junior, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Marcel Marceau and more. Every great is inspired by other great artists. If you study art you have to have knowledge of other artists. There's a difference between being inspired by artists and copying them. Learn the difference! Fred Astaire was inspired by others, as was Bob Fosse, as was Gene Kelly etc. It's just so ignorant to say , oh he didn't invent these moves. Get a grip

MJ is brilliant but…
Watch Bob Fosse in “the little prince”
So yeah…. Didn’t invent a lot of these moves,
Fosse changed dance forever.
Get a grip
@@T1000-s4j that’s what I just said! Have you watched the video? Have you actually watched it?
You’re gonna feel really dumb when you do watch it.
michael copie elvis move
You must be under the influence of drugs
Michael Jackson did not pattern th moonwalk
He stills tears it up though! 🔥
