90s Spidey media was pretty creepy in general, in comics you had clones, grotesque mutations, demons, the art in his books was also gritty, McFarlane truly potraited New York as a dump.
This haunting soundtrack for me, it is very representative of Spider-Man world. You can feel it's appropriate for characters like Venom or Lizard, wild and ominous beasts driven by violence and bound by human tragedy. When I was a kid and reading the comics while playing this game, I found it amazing and chilling. It's a pity that nowadays the franchise (especially the MCU) has taken this character so far from what it was between the '80s and the '90s.
I think Andrew Garfield's Spider Man was so close to this dramatical vibe, he seen Gwen Stacy die, seen how her father died, how people whose was poisoned by Lizard died or became creatures like him and etc. It was truly dark Spider Man and his villains was dark too.
Hows this for ya, the baseemnt was our play room and our system of choice was the genesis the music is so frightening. jump ahead 20+ years i'm 32 and i actually refinished the same basement but i'll never forget the horrors of this music
That and and that little tune was SO LOUD compared to the rest of the songs, so you have your TV all turned up and then you die and you jump out of your skin because it's so loud!
Classic Mark Miller! You can really hear how the Sewer (12:43) inspired the Earth dimension tracks in Chakan the Forever Man. Thanks as always for uploading!
The BEST game intro music of its time. Hearing it again on the final level would make me so tense, and getting pummeled by Kingpin with those powerful punches, never beat it.
Same here.. today it came to mind for some random reason and had to put it up. Exactly 30 years ago I was playing this game, never managed to get to the end. Might be time
That's a great comparison, it really does sound like the soundtrack to a gritty 70s John Carpenter Spider-Man movie. Like Assault on Precinct 13 or something.
I just listened to Carpenter's Lost Themes album and the last track reminded me so much of this game I had to go check it out! Glad I'm not the only one!
Props on your dedication to get this soundtrack recorded! I totally would've given up, kind of like how i gave up on this game when i was a kid...so damn hard. And it was our 1st game for the system too!
Dark moody and ominous...perfect synth. I fully agree that this does channel John Carpenter in parts. Also, even though Spiderman cracks jokes and shit talks while fighting the good fight, his life is a tragic and at times lonely one, so this fits...
This game was produced by Ed Anunziatta better known as the creator of Ecco the Dolphin- so of course it has the same dark serious tone! Not to mention the same insanely hard difficulty level!
@@sdlock83But it's not because of Ed! They are definitely not bad soundtracks and you are here supposedly listening to them on original hardware, imagine on an emulator without Low-Pass Filter, they do sound horrible.
What an odd, _odd_ soundtrack for a game about the friendly neighborhood webslinger, Spider-Man himself. The really gritty instrument choices, the gloomy, atmospheric vibes, the funky FM patches... I would think the music composers didn't really do a good job encapsulating the action-packed adventure of a superhero. On their own, however, many pieces of music present here are actually really quite calming, haunting, somber, and even quite beautiful. Really fascinating, honestly.
I really agree with you. The music is almost totally inappropriate for a spiderman game...yet somehow it works and helps make the atmosphere.I think this music isn't going to be eveyone's cup of tea. But I don't think detractors could disagree that this sounds like NOTHING else out there. Personally I think it's fascinating, the timbres and textures are so cool. As a Synth the YM2160 stands up for me with those great and instantly recognisable synths like the Arp Odessey or the CS-80
Although the music probably wasn't meant to fit the persona of a wise-cracking webslinger, it had more to do with the game's environment and situations.
How did you say,@@Skylinesandsunsets, I think the music is more focused on the environment and Parker's occurrences, 'cause he'd to live many type of adventures, even strange and creepy events
I just listened to that opening track with my headset and sank into my chair with eyes closed. That song could play through the whole game and it would be fine
Haven't played this in years, wanted to see if this was still as creepy as a I remember when I was a kid. Yes, it is. Holy crap the sewer is still frightening as hell.
The opening on this is sooo good. It's like an 8-bit Matrix kinda sound, and I've always loved it being the first thing you hear when the Sega logo comes up.
I remember playing this game several times. Could never beat it. But that soundtrack was the highlight. Especially the intro. So omnious. This game made me become more of a Spiderman fan. The good times
the best video game spider man music sega genesis. when i think of spiderman i hear and think of this music, its fitting as the sound from an instrument, spiderman and this music are synomonous.
when I was 7 this made the basement terrifying playing this. I'm 34 and since then I redid the basement as a game room new flooring, walls, lights - but i never could get the Sega Spiderman out of the basement~
Ah yes, my first SG game. Never beat the Kingpin until last year, actually. Also, how was Mary Jane not dead from being partially dipped into the lava?
This has that spidery synth that you used to be able to find all Spidey media until 2002 when the first movie came out. Now it’s all horns and violins.
While I feel the Sega CD soundtrack is superior, specifically 1 track that's a pain in the ass to grab. This one has an overwhelming sense of atmosphere that a lot of Spiderman games can't pull off.
I replayed Spider-Man on my Genesis about 4 days ago...I beat it and boy I must say, Kingpin is no joke, let alone fighting 4 Villains and disarming the bomb prior battling Kingpin.
I never beat this game as a kid but i can remember watching my older brother beat it the last stage is crazy i think i managed to get to the last stage but the bomb went off lol
Would love to hear the makers of the PS4 Spiderman game recreate this sound or atmosphere for the next Spiderman game. Don’t get me wrong the music on the ps4 game is good but I always thought that this sound was 100% what a spiderman game should sound like. It bleeds Spiderman.
I got high and was thinking about spiderman and remembering this game felt like forbidden knowledge being unlocked. I just remember never getting passed lab because I was so scared of this game
Thanx for the rip dude. one of my favorite games n soundtrack when I was 9-10 yrs old along with the x-men n game. funny how I would always catch myself humming these songs throughout the years lol. Is there any spot where I can download the soundtrack?
+Nedeeles Kane It's surprising how atmospheric the soundtrack is. And you'd be right, it is depressing! It just... feels gloomy. Especially the 'Home' theme.
I always remember this game with that dark/anti-hero atmosphere, I played it for the first time in my dad's pc when I was like 4 or 5 Excuse my English, I'm from Chile.
Mark Miller is a genius. So many awesome game ost's on his resume. Toe Jam & Earl, Chakan the Forever Man, X-Men 2 Clone Wars, Sewer Shark, Robocop vs. Terminator, just to name a few. Sega is generally inferior to SNES in terms of graphics and sound, and I'll admit a lot of Sega sounds are grating and terrible, but when it's done right, it's incredibly unique and awesome.
Thank you very much for posting this. This is a chilling cool sound track, I can't say why but the composer really captured the character spirit in the soundtrack, it has so much drama and personality it's much better than most spiderman games and even the movies. Any chance of uploading it in mediafire or some other service? because the download link doesn't seem to be working

ok that warehouse had no business slapping that hard
Sounds like something out of Toejam & Earl. 🔥
90s Spidey media was pretty creepy in general, in comics you had clones, grotesque mutations, demons, the art in his books was also gritty, McFarlane truly potraited New York as a dump.
I agree, he's my favorite Spiderman representation. I prefer his insane details than Stan Lee draw lol. I know, it's terrible to say that.

This game got me reading the comics soon after I played it. Good times!
@@Winterburnt Same here!
Great way to describe it. I loved the vibe of this game
I think Andrew Garfield's Spider Man was so close to this dramatical vibe, he seen Gwen Stacy die, seen how her father died, how people whose was poisoned by Lizard died or became creatures like him and etc. It was truly dark Spider Man and his villains was dark too.
The ost in this game makes it feel like it was a Carpenter movie
best intro music ever. Gave me chills as a kid
The theme still does for me. It's some cold shit. You knew when you turned the Sega on this game was for real and you weren't going to get it easy.
Same. A little of Zeppelin's No Quarter in there
Hows this for ya, the baseemnt was our play room and our system of choice was the genesis the music is so frightening. jump ahead 20+ years i'm 32 and i actually refinished the same basement but i'll never forget the horrors of this music
27:07 DUDE! When you lose a life this music sounds in the background and spiderman just...slowly fell over, defeated
That was so creepy...
That and and that little tune was SO LOUD compared to the rest of the songs, so you have your TV all turned up and then you die and you jump out of your skin because it's so loud!
Azumarill_TF2 that's why I'm here! I randomly got it stuck in my head lol
i remember kingpin having like 5% health and punching me square in the face.. que the music lmao i think that was the first time i cursed
Ahh the nostalgia is enough to make a grown man cry
@@joshuaw3306 Hell yeah
I always found this soundtrack quite haunting.
I remember faking being sick on a school day and my mom let me stay home and I played this all day. Such a great feeling... Nostalgia
Does that make you feel great now, Alan?
This ost was so creepy! It really added drama to the game.
Oh yeah. Really set an intense atmosphere.
21:00 the most relaxing tune. Great way to relax after a long day :)
Agree.💯🙌🏽
Genuinely one of the most underrated soundtracks of the 16bit era, it's moody, eerie and cool as hell.
fo sho
Perfect for a Spider-Man detective game, which this was
Classic Mark Miller! You can really hear how the Sewer (12:43) inspired the Earth dimension tracks in Chakan the Forever Man. Thanks as always for uploading!
I still to this day find myself humming "sewers"(originally I thought it was when fighting electro)
The BEST game intro music of its time. Hearing it again on the final level would make me so tense, and getting pummeled by Kingpin with those powerful punches, never beat it.
First time hearing this after 30 years. Still sounds amazing!
My God.... Has it really been that long...
Same here.. today it came to mind for some random reason and had to put it up. Exactly 30 years ago I was playing this game, never managed to get to the end. Might be time
This game and OST are both super under-appreciated. The soundtrack really sets a serious, dramatic tone.
Great rip! Reminds me of old John Carpenter, I love it!
So many memories of this damn game.
This game has the best cover artwork, to date! The building lines blend in with genesis cartridge box lines. Spidy is from 1980s comic.
One of the most beautiful soundtracks ever created, honestly.
Props on your dedication to get this soundtrack recorded! I totally would've given up, kind of like how i gave up on this game when i was a kid...so damn hard. And it was our 1st game for the system too!
Just bought this game and a Genesis. Can't wait to play!
@Jorrell SegarraGreat! It's a fun but tough game.
Working in a ware house listening to this watch out for that fork lift !
that opening theme is fucking solid. one of the most memorable of the era
Dark moody and ominous...perfect synth. I fully agree that this does channel John Carpenter in parts. Also, even though Spiderman cracks jokes and shit talks while fighting the good fight, his life is a tragic and at times lonely one, so this fits...
Man, this soundtrack sounds so eerie! Reminds me of 'The Immortal" (another great game with a killler soundtrack). Thanks for the upload, man!
This game was produced by Ed Anunziatta better known as the creator of Ecco the Dolphin- so of course it has the same dark serious tone! Not to mention the same insanely hard difficulty level!
No wonder. The soundtrack for both games are awful lol!
@@sdlock83But it's not because of Ed! They are definitely not bad soundtracks and you are here supposedly listening to them on original hardware, imagine on an emulator without Low-Pass Filter, they do sound horrible.
Wow this took a lot of work, thank you
Apparently a disguised man who sails through the sky on lines deserves a deep bassy tune
Awesome! I was looking for that one as well as Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition rips. Thank you so much!

Those sounds can't be replaced by any real instrument at all. It would be a murder to do that lol
Do you know the effects ??
I remember trying to get a picture of Venom with Sandman to earn extra points and how difficult it was to fight them both at the same time.
The opening on this is sooo good. It's like an 8-bit Matrix kinda sound, and I've always loved it being the first thing you hear when the Sega logo comes up.
Classic Mega Drive sound.
Love the game dude. grew up playing this game and i still play it now and i love the soundtrack.BIG THANKS for the link for the soundtrack download.

You did an outstanding job ripping the music!! It sounds exactly as it is in the cartridge!! Thanks for sharing! You're great!! 😉👍👍

15:41 My favorite song on the soundtrack. Then it got even better at 16:00.
Fuckin awesome game. The battle with king pin at the end was epic.
the best video game spider man music sega genesis. when i think of spiderman i hear and think of this music, its fitting as the sound from an instrument, spiderman and this music are synomonous.
The first game that I played in sega genesis/mega drive. Early 90's =~
YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!! ❤️😍
I used to play this game a lot!!! The music reminds me of Escape From New York or They Live 😊
That bass line on the Warehouse level music though...

Is this game a John Carpenter Game?
I love central park and power station themes.

awesome ost! thx
A race against time until Kingpin lowers Mary Jane to her gruesome death...I love how mature and dark this game felt, ominous
Hands down . One of the best sleep on genesis comic games. From start to end .. U better get all them keys .. Lol
Oh this game. I never finished it, always reached the bomb and fuck it up. I forgot how good the music was.
It's something about the story theme
Yay! finally found it! It was eating at me
You a lifesaver!
Goosebumps.
27:07 Defeated is clearly a sample from The Cure's "Lullaby":
on candystripe legs

softly though the shadow
of the evening sun...
